by far the best video on this subject.
I wish you would make ALL the how to videos. Unlike all the other cooking shows and DIY videos that they always seem to skip the most important steps to get the job done, you not only showed every steps and made them watchable. You got a talent! Thank you sir!
Thank you for watching and the kind words. I'm glad this video was helpful for you!
Just spent the weekend doing all five. Thanks for the video as it was very helpful, amusing and concise. Cheers!
That's awesome. I'm glad it was helpful for you. Congrats on the new locks!
This is one of the best vids I’ve seen for this pending job on my 2000 LC. Nice work! Just need a weekend and endless beers for enhanced confidence
Thanks! I'm glad it was beneficial for you. A little liquid courage goes a long way. Once you do one of the locks, the rest are easy. I believe in you.
Thanks man this is quite literally exactly the video I was looking for. Plus big ups for making it short and easy
Thanks for checking it out. I'm glad it was helpful.
Thanks for the video! This drives me nuts with my locks!
No problem. Thanks for watching! Mine got so bad I was afraid I'd get completely locked out of the vehicle and not have my spare key. The locks are super snappy now.
Great video, well done. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Perfect video. You are life-saver.
Glad it was helpful for you!
Perfect no nonsense video. Thanks man
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it.
Bro this video is so well made just thank you. If only all diy car job videos were this thorough🥲
Dude. You saved my ass. I’ve done a couple other actuators. This one has me stuck at the 2 rods connected to the key hole and door handle. Without this vid I would have surely broken both of them off. Thank you.
Awesome video. Clear and concise. Hoping to tackle this project soon.
Should’ve replaced those speakers while you were in there. Those cones have been toast for quite some time by the looks of it.
Thanks for watching! The speakers were toast. I kept wondering why the audio quality was so poor. I’ve since installed a new stereo and speakers.
Very helpfull!!!
Awesome video, thanks! Was going to make my own how-to video for my channel but this videos is too good 😅
Great video. I see you did a saddle leather color for your seats and other leather parts. It also appears you have a new or refreshed door skin. Can you talk about where you got the leathers from and the door skins? I need to replace mine and like the look of yours. Thanks
Is there a way of detaching the upper lock cable? I saw You doing the lower one (near actuator). Trying to replace the upper ripped cable and not sure if it can be detached from the lock mechanism. Thanks.
I've read about people replacing them so my guess is that it comes off. Without having the actuator out of the vehicle and in front of me, it's hard to say, but looking at some pictures online it appears to have the same plastic piece holding it in a slot (same as lower one) that you could press out and then remove it from the assembly.
Think these will work for the 06 lx470? Trying to read through 38 pages on Mud is killing me. There are two options of motors right?
Doing my 06 470 now. You'll need the motor that has a half round/half flat shaft. Looks like a half moon.
What year was you Cruiser? I am seeing two different types of motor shafts on the motors in videos.
2001. I linked the part number in the description.
Had you had any problems with the security system before you replaced the motor? I have a 00 lx470 and the driver side motor is going out and also having a problem with the alarm going off randomly when locked.
No, I didn't experience anything like that. I wonder if the failing motor is triggering something with the alarm system.
Your sunroof drains are clogged, the water cannot drain and runs down the outside of the drain tube and drips onto the Body Control Module, which is behind the passenger footwell kick panel. It then shorts out, set's off the alarm, will trigger the DRL's, keep the instrument cluster live, turn on the HVAC blower, all kinds of things. Clear the sunroof drains, there are four of them. One in each corner, use compressed air and an air gun. Short quick bursts. Then rinse with clean water. Once the BCM dries, problem will be gone. Then you just need to make sure the drains are clear once a year. Also, make sure the drains UNDER the truck are clear, they are in the pinch weld in the rocker panels. They are little slits, use a zip tie to clear them. You will need to crawl under the truck to see them. The corners of the rocker panels will rust from the inside out and you will hear water sloshing while driving but will not have a clue as to where it is coming from.
@@spike555 I’ll have to look into it this weekend. The guy I bought the car from had the sunroof motor and all completely replaced but it wasn’t done by a Lexus/Toyota dealer and it works fine but still probably wouldn’t hurt to check the drains. I did go through and replace all of the door lock motors in each door and it seems to have helped some. The alarm doesn’t go off as frequent but it still randomly goes off at times.
Is this the same part for the lx? My motors are also failing. Thanks
Yea, same motors.
Do you only have to replace the driver door actuator to get better performance out of all the locks?
No, you have to replace all to get better performance out of all.
Does this control all the doors? Because the problem I have in some doors.
Each door has its own actuator. So whichever doors have the problem are the ones you need to work on. Best to replace all though. They are getting very old.
I got my new one in and tested. It sounded like it was stripping inside of the casing. Now i need to take it back off again. Why did this happen??
Sorry to hear it’s giving you trouble. It sounds like maybe it wasn’t fully seated into position so the gear teeth were not getting good contact. The little motor has a decent amount of torque to initiate the lock and unlock movement, and if the casing wasn’t fully cured it could have separated a little when the motor engaged causing the motor to wiggle out of place. I hope you get it figured out. Let me know how it goes.
@@goatsinapond so you were right. I pulled it back out, took it apart, shaved the old jb weld off and redid it. This time I pressed the heck out of it after I re glued it. Used clamps to hold it tight for 15 mins. Amazing what happens when you follow directions 🙃
Anyone have a video on how to do the trunk?
I did the trunk on mine, but I can't remember if I filmed it or not. I'll check my camera and see.
The trunk one is the easiest. The order from what I recall (just did it today): Top trim (sides pull towards each other, top pulls towards the front of the car were the hatch closed, NOT DOWN towards the handle). Handle and handle garnish. Bottom trim. Four rods. Three bolts. Plug.
Why would you glue the case back together? What about next time the motor needs replacing?
It's glued from the factory. That's why it has to be pried apart. The thin layer of plastic resin seals the case but allows for it to be taken apart in the future. Keep in mind the next time these motors will need replacing is 20+ years.
Same for the rear passenger?
Yea
You didn't lube the gears though. Just a dab of new grease would make all the difference for the longevity of the new motor. Great video.
Wish I knew that before taking it all apart!
yep that is it, you got to do all 5 doors as it will fail .
I got them all done. What a world of difference.
@@goatsinapond when I did my I should've refurbish windows motors too , now I do not what to go there second time
