I used to watch a mudvayne behind the scenes DVD or making the video or something with my cousin... and the rest of the band would always be like "Damn, Matt is crazy good" and would talk about how loud he played and shit. It was rad. Not sure if that video is on youtube but it's really cool.
@@mattg3135, Yeah! I used to sit in when he played in my brother's band in the early nineties! He used to beat the fuck out of those drums! They all chipped in to help with drum heads and cymbals! They were like "It's cool! Just keep hittin them like you do!". Lol
The musicianship between them all instrumentally is something on another level. Matt has no accidental stick hits, missed cymbal hits, he knows exactly what needs to be played. One of my favorite drummers for the last 20 years. Hats off to you sir!
One thing about Matt.... He plays mostly with a fisted grip, not relying on stick bounce as much as stroke and wrists. I picked up on this when he was rocking with AHEAD sticks. A fisted swinging drummer (many on metal drums) will usually have inherently less accidental hits as they need to be deliberate and heavy pull of the mechanics of a non-bounce stick and large stroke. Just my opinion...
@@pretendhuman ua-cam.com/video/ldFk6_0AdgI/v-deo.html It’s all about technique. Here’s Dominator from Dark Funeral. He makes the Mudvayne drummer look like a middle school kid in band class.

Mudvayne has a close place to my heart, but I wish people would realize that they have such better songs than Dig. Just off that album there are real gems like "Internal Primates Forever", "Death Blooms", " Everything and Nothing", and my favorites "-1" and "Nothing to Gein". All their albums are solid with the first one being a metal classic. I'm excited to see them playing in 2021, hope they come play near me 🤘
Yea, LD50 was pretty much why I picked up a bass guitar when I was young. With a little help from rage and rhcp, of course. Still love that album, man.
This is exactly the kind of content Mudvayne needs to be releasing between now and whenever the band releases a new album. I want to see and hear high fidelity of what the band looks like and how the band sounds in 2021. I want a GoPro attached to Ryan's head stock on his bass facing down the instrument's neck. Mudvayne is such an unbelievable band from top to bottom. I would pay an ungodly sum of money for a new Mudvayne album. The world - let alone the contemporary metal scene - needs Mudvayne.
For those who complain about the timming: dude, if you wanna a perfect click, just listen to the studio version. Playing live is about feeling and energy! Building up the tempo is not a bad thing at all. Is fucking cool when done right. The problem is that haters gonna hate always. People nowadays seem to be unable to enjoy things, always trying to find a problem. That's so freaking boring.
Just because the timing was all over the place doesn't make it any less enjoyable, at least to me. As you say, live is when you should expect to hear the humanity in the playing.
I always anxiously await for the haters to upload their videos, you know, to show us how it's supposed to be done.🙄 Matt is a badass. Props to a fellow Central Illinois drummer!!!
@@rapid13 exactly! I wanna hear a human playing, not a machine. These people are such a pain in the ass. It seems that they're not even Mudvayne fans. Man, it's been so many years without the band. Now that they're together people wanna to find problems everywhere.
Everyone complaining about the timing clearly wasn’t at Rockville because watching this live was probably one of the most energy packed shows I’ve ever been to in my life. All 96 hours
loved it, all you clowns doggin on matt. . . the guy is in his 50s now. hes still legit and this song is still epic. when this song came out many many years ago it was epic. matt was at the time a very well respected metal drummer. hes got his own style. so just wait till some of you hippies hit 50 you wont be doing things as fast and precise as once before. Matt you did great! loved it, keep it up and keep the vids coming!!!!!!!!!!
Matt’s precision on drums is simply unreal… and Ryan’s on bass as well… their style is so their own and their technical precision is just unreal, it’s really not that common to see such talent.
Saw them open for Slipknot in '00. Had never heard of them before but became an instant life-long fan after that. Gotta give credit to Slipknot for helping give a major boost to their career and helping make them become such a well known band, even though I always thought Mudvayne was the better band of the two.
They didn't show for the family values tour with Slipknot, Rammstein and System. I did see them open for Disturbed before that though so not all was lost.
Seeing a lot of hate about him "not keeping in time" by a lot of people who don't understand the importance of subtle tempo changes. Matt has always been an awesome drummer and a perfect fit for the band.
the only part where it sounded off to me was the halftime fill at 2:14 but to me it sounded like Greg the guitarist played the chords a lot slower so Matt slowed down to be closer in time with him. Believe it or not it’s every musicians job to be in time in the band besides the drummer
One of my all time favorite rhythm sections in metal. They have outstanding chemistry and the symmetry of the groove is always fun to listen to. Glad they gave it another go. They will never be the bonecrushingly intense group I saw multiple times in the early 00's but that's ok. We all get old.
I remember watching the clips of him doing this for the video shoot many years ago, and thinking "Damn that's crazy"🤣and here he hasn't missed a beat. This is such a talented band. It's great to see them back on stage!

His drumming style if my favorite of all time. Not kidding. It's super dynamic and cool. Sounds and looks so fucking amazing.
