ISHITANI - Making a Bird Table

- This is a bird table (feeder).
It is made of sweet chestnut wood that is resistant to rain, assuming that it will be used outdoors.
It is designed to stand on its own by assembling four parts.
And they are not glued, and both the tenon and tenon hole are conical so that they can adapt even if the tenon becomes thinner in the future. Wiggle nails are inserted to prevent the board from cracking due to rain or sunlight (15:19) .

屋外で使うことを想定して、雨に強い栗の木でできています。
4つのパーツを組んで自立する設計です。そしてそれらを接着はせず、ホゾが痩せても適応できるように、ホゾもホゾ穴も円錐形をしています。 雨や日光による板の割れを防ぐ波釘も追加で入れています。

Knowing birds as I do, you'll be forever going out to refill it. I have sparrow that can empty a feed in a day and it holds way more than that small bowl will.

A simple an beautiful design. I look forward to your next design. However, I was totally dismayed that I witnessed you use a C&C machine.
Why? He made everything else on machines, so what is the difference? I'm not suggesting that there is no skill involved, of course, but whether you are using a chopsaw or CNC is largely irrelevant. For me, ishitani's work is about the design and the moments where we see him ponder over grain direction or aspects of the design, or the skilled chisel and plane work he does, rather than the noisy bits!

Beautiful! I'd be afraid of it becoming a squirrel table in short order, but looks fantastic.
Those wee beasts - squirrel red, black or grey (here) and the chipmunks - all - are also deserving of such quality décor and that pleasant meal as they go about the day, their feathered colleagues pause sunflower seed hulling now to say.
