This episode is in my top 5. I always get teary eyed at the end of the episode. Kids that grew up with alcoholic dads just wish they could have a clarity moments like stan and randy did at the end.
Yeah telling an alcoholic that you can drink a little and responsibly is like saying that you can do just a little bit of H once in a while. Granted H will make you addicted faster but it's the same principle. And it's actually more dangerous to detox from alcohol if your tolerance level is so high that you drink a vodka bottle a day. Where I think this episode gets it right is how religious and a bit culty certain AA places are. So if you live in a small town it can be hard to find meetings that are more fitting. Just like you have the opposite extreme where you have rehab facilities that claim they can cure alcoholism or any other addiction in 28 days so that when you get out of there you are told you can start drinking again just as long as you don't overdo it. Is it a disease the same way cancer is? Of course not. But there are people who literally die if they are exposed to peanuts because they get an allergic reaction. The way I think of alcoholics is sort of like that. Their body and brain chemistry simply don't allow for them to just have that one drink without their brain chemically starting to tell them to not only keep going after the first drink but to do it all over again the next day until it's all they do. That being said I would not classify Randy as an alcoholic, and not because he's able to keep up a better lifestyle than Kenny's parents. Stan is right he's a hypochondriac.

This episode is super important to me. It's the episode that helped me lose over 100 lbs. It drove home the message that my decisions were the reason I was morbidly obese. Because just like every drink randy had was a choice made by him entirely under his own control, every piece of food I ate was a choice I was making. I was choosing to be fat just like randy was choosing to be an alcoholic. It's not something out of your control, you're literally the only one who has any control over it. Everyday you make a series of choices that dictate the person you will become. If you want to become a fitness freak then you need to make the choices a fitness freak would make everyday and then you'll become a fitness freak. Make the choices of the person you want to be, and you'll be that person. Just like Dr Wong said to Rick. "You chose to come here, you chose to talk, to belittle my vocation, just as you chose to become a pickle. You are the master of your universe and yet you are dripping with rat blood and feces, your enormous mind literally vegetating by your own hand. There's no way to do it so wrong you might die. It's just work, and the bottom line is some people are okay going to work, and some people, well, some people would rather die. Each of us gets to choose."
The only clarification I might make is that no one chooses to be an alcoholic, but they do choose to be a drunk. This has a place in the show's history because what it did was shape all the controversies that the show dealt with for the next 4-5 years. Plus, 1:17 was based on a true part of creator Trey Parker's childhood. When he was 9, his dad was drinking a beer while driving up a road pass and didn't want to stop so he drunk the beer and then peed into the bottle, while he was driving.
If I remember correctly they didn't episode of Walker Texas ranger that had sort of a similar plot to this except it was a statue of a white buffalo that was shedding tears like real honest-to-god tears and they couldn't figure it out
I love that SP has a way of making you laugh due to its absurdity, but then reflect on the delivery of its underlying moral of the story. You really have to read between the lines on this show.
Placebos can work even if the person doesn't believe it. You can tell people that you're giving them a sugar pill and it can still help more than doing nothing.
And he put some false words in Randy's head. Alcoholism is not a disease, it's an addiction. If Randy kept on drinking throughout his life, _then_ he has a disease which is called hepatitis. Which is caused when his liver shrivels up if he drinks more then less. What Stan told him is the truth. If he just cuts down on his drinking and know that he can't drink and drive at the same time then he has responsibility and discipline *(disciprine)* .
I resonate with this episode so much. I've always drank beer, maybe a few shots of rum, but it escalated slowly and after a rough cpl years *ahem covid* and family illnesses and work drama, I went way over the edge. I REALLY fucked up a few times but luckily my boss is a great person and believed in me. She gave me a time frame to fix it on my own, or else I'd have to do AA or rehab, etc. So I fixed it. I felt like I had to prove I could do it alone through willpower. I didn't need AA or god or forgiving people to make me better. I was never an angry drunk and hadn't wronged anyone but myself. I feel better than ever now. And I can still have a cpl beers when I want. For me personally, going to rehab or AA would have been torture. This episode showcases how you can't fix everyone's addiction or alcoholism with the same plan. Some people latch onto the idea of it being a disease and that they are powerless over it. I don't think that's the right way to look at it. My opinion is it's not a disease. I beat it through willpower and the fact that the people giving me a 2nd chance cared about me. I didn't want to fuck that up and ruin those relationships. But for real. Randy is an alcoholic lol. I just love how they use him to showcase the problems with addiction treatment. Edit: I don't think it should be classified as a disease. But it's certainly a psychological issue that needs treatment. Telling people they have no control over it is not the solution IMO.
Man I wish this episode didn't have real-life parallels. When I was younger I had a friend who had 2 DUI's. He was put on probation, had to attend AA, lost his license for a while and for about a year and a half I took care of him. Helped him get to his job, do things he needed to on a daily basis, and kept him occupied so that he wouldn't resort to drinking again out of boredom. He got sober, got off probation with his car back and everything. No more than a day after his last state-mandated activity, he was at a bar, getting hammered with another friend, and they drove home. I was so angry, and insulted that I'd spent so much time trying to help someone whom it felt like had just used me for their own benefit with no intent to change. Not long after that he found religion and doubled down on it, meanwhile, I finally came out as an atheist, which was a big deal seeing as I come from a very fundamentalist-oriented family. He called me up and stated he didn't believe me, borderline insulted me about it, and then removed me from all his social media before moving out of state. You're either a good person without religion, or you're not. having faith doesn't change who you really are, and if anything makes some people even worse.
Just an info: this episode is talking about the weeping statues that sometimes appear worldly and starts to cry blood. But instead of the eyes, south park chose to put the "third eye" as the bloody source kkkk
I don't know it if was intentional but that ending always reminds me of the Simpsons whe lisa becomes vegetarian and fights with Homer, it ends with them playfully exchanging words while walking down the street with her on his shoulders
This episode came out around the time when people were debating if people should be charged with DUIs if alcoholism is truly a disease with genetic predispositions... and also if alcoholics should get disability benefits. Also, Lost was an amazing series. I plan on doing a rewatch soon since I haven't seen it since it aired.
Alcoholics and intravenous drug addicts get disability benefits in the u.k, in my opinion its encouraged a lot of people to be drug addicts, and none of them ever kick their habit because its all paid for by our stupid government.
This is way too true about the 12 step program. I remember being in Boy Scouts; we would have our meetings at a church. I was reading through the church’s library, and there was a book on the dangers of alcoholism, and curing alcoholism. The first part of the book talks about how people become alcoholics, the end of the book talks about curing alcohol addictions. But the book doesn’t have a happy ending, because the main anon character didn’t accept god. (Really disturbed stuff. He failed solving his problems, because he wasn’t religious enough.)
What happened to your hand? Great episode! The beginning of the episode was something that kind of happened to Trey when he was a kid, with Randy making him hold warm bottles of piss because Randy didn't want to stop driving and piss outside.
This episode was a favorite for my a long time, my dad's ex girlfriend was in AA and it is very very cult like to some people(her) I've met a few who take it way to far just like anything else. It has great points when I was younger I totally thought like Stan though did aka Matt and Trey

What makes me laugh so much at the beginning of this episode is Randy going to the AA meeting and saying to the leader and members that he just really likes beer. 😄
3:53 that scene reminds me of the part in HalfBaked when Bob Saget tells the group "I used to s*** d*** for coke! Now that's an addiction man" 😂 had me rolling!

this literally happened to me like 15 years ago with alcohol. subconsciously i thought i was ill like AA says and that i had no control so i spiraled down into a dark pit of alcoholism. i was drinking mass amount of alcohol for over a decade. i eventually stopped and turned my life around. having a purpose in life helps.

I rack discipling, so i don't drink. I stopped dreaming of having it under control. The problem of Stans theory is: Because im an alcoholic, i can't possibly enjoy if i try to drink in moderation. Sure i can go to a bar and buy one or two beers, but after that, every cell in my body start screaming more alcohol and it's not a pleasant feeling. Even if i could drink in moderation, i don't wanna torture myself. Im powerless against this addiction so i don't have to fight against the illusions that my mind creates, i don't have to negotiate with myself if i should have a drink. Yes, i go to aa-meetings regularly. Never agreed to "having a disease" part, even though the program has helped me alot. Rarely even talk about my alcoholism anymore. It's more like, i wanna improve myself to be a better person overall. Cult dynamics is something i've been thinking alot during these years, a single group can be vulnerable against since there can be some individuals who try to force their own views alot. Anyway, good episode, one of my favorites.
I lived in Denver for years and I love how they put in real locations, like Colfax Avenue - which you flashed. Also, did you know who Colfax is named after. 😊
I believe this episode was about the virgin Mary statue that has been seen crying while it was indoors and was claimed to be a miracle. There were a lot of Catholic churches moving it from one place to another so a lot of people could see it back in the day.
I love seeing how far South Park can push you before you break 😂 I'm also gonna keep adding to the list of episodes you need to see that explain ongoing references, new characters, and character changes you keep coming across, with the episode "Mr. Garrison's Fancy New Vagina". Add that to "The Passion Of The Jew" and "The Death Camp Of Tolerance". You should definitely watch all three!
1:08 Fun fact: drinking while driving is what I *thought* drink driving meant when I was a kid, and I thought any drink would qualify. I thought the idea was not to obscure one's vision or to have only one hand on the steering wheel.
I tried to stop drinking many times, being sober 2-3 months as much. After seeing this episode I started controling the amount and times I drank with a total success. Now I drink way less and have more fun than before.
As a Christian, I don't think I'd see a statue bleeding as anything Miraculous, Divine, or Holy. On another note, any episode centered around Randy is hysterical. Something, like a trend, is going around the town and he hops on it immediately.
Ya, Randy had a point at the beginning of AA. Just because you like to drink doesn't necessarily mean you're a alcoholic. If you drink on occasion and aren't addicted, you're not a alcoholic.
Mm i dunno if he got a point there , most will not notice or admit that they have a prob , and will exactly claim that they drink on occasion , socially , and can control themselves . You don't usually gets DUIs like Randy's if you drink occasionally and responsibly . Where the episode nails it imo , is with that weird crossover with religion as part of the program . I always found it off , and like trading an addiction for another . It's cool if religious themed 12 steps programs actually help already faithful people , it's plain weird when "forced" onto atheist or agnostics .
As a recovering alcoholic, I hate the "it's a disease" shit. It, and AA in general, tries to alleviate personal responsibility. Even when you're an alcoholic, you still make the choice to go to the bar or go to the liquour store, buy the booze, and then drink it.
1:11 yea, but not while literally driving obviously. The air in the bottle will get replaced with liquid, so make sure the air is able to escape, or its pretty much guaranteed, that it gets messy with that already tough task... If u arent noteworthy experienced with it and im sure most arent. 😄 The bigger the opening, the easier it gets and the opening of a beer bottle is VERY risky to make the story short. The amount might be more than u think, especially if it went so far, that u have to use a bottle for it, so be ready to cancle it... What shouldnt be a noteworthy problem. I mean this is a emergency situation and u dont have to empty the bladder 100% to be good enough again for a while.
Person in AA with 6 years sober here. We never force someone to say they’re an alcoholic and the higher power doesn’t need to be a religious god, it just needs to not be yourself or your significant other.

When he was 9, his dad was drinking a beer while driving up a road pass and didn't want to stop so he drunk the beer and then peed into the bottle, while he was driving.
If I remember correctly they didn't episode of Walker Texas ranger that had sort of a similar plot to this except it was a statue of a white buffalo that was shedding tears like real honest-to-god tears and they couldn't figure it out
Living with an alcoholic who makes life miserable is rough, so this episode strikes me very close at home, love it very much
I love that SP has a way of making you laugh due to its absurdity, but then reflect on the delivery of its underlying moral of the story. You really have to read between the lines on this show.
To be fair a placebo like the Bloody Mary in this episode can help someone get over an addiction. they just have to genuinely believe it.
Placebos can work even if the person doesn't believe it. You can tell people that you're giving them a sugar pill and it can still help more than doing nothing.
The leader of the AAA meeting in this episode, is sounding like a cult leader.
He is also spreading lies to Randy. Being an alcoholic is not a disease, it's an addiction. Having hepatitis from drinking endlessly is a disease.
The funniest this is the didn’t over exaggerate AA at all.XD
It never stops making me happy to see that you just uploaded a new south park video
No matter what, you must always have an empty water bottle in your car in case of emergency.
I loved it when you put your hands on your head and flipped off the camera. 😂. Great reaction as always Dash!
Since watching this episode, when people follow me too close I always yell out “Get off my ass dickhole!”. Thanks Randy Marsh! 😂😂❤
7:57 Totally with Stan, he’s more intelligent than all of them😂
Just an info: this episode is talking about the weeping statues that sometimes appear worldly and starts to cry blood.
That' crazy showing that to little kids... Makes me feel like SP can be way more real than I even realize :')
I wanna say the "peeing into the beer bottle" trope always makes me think of Dumb & Dumber movie.
I'm hooked on your South Park reactions Dash!
Keep up the amazing work!
The deep sigh of "give me strength with this damn show!" is so relatable, especially on this episode. 🤣
this is awesome to be able to watch episodes with you since im normally very lonely so it defiantly helps to watch with someone who likes it aswel =) keep it up thank you! cant wait for the next one
What makes me laugh so much at the beginning of this episode is Randy going to the AA meeting and saying to the leader and members that he just really likes beer. 😄
Like your South Park reactions. "Insecurity" is a great episode!
Dash.. you just gave us the middle finger talking about the girl with elephantiasis was breathing LoL
Man, Stan was really spitting this episode. And this is just a genuinely good episode with a great message. With such a sweet ending.
Man i ve been through many many reaction channels lately, you are in a league of your own
3:53 that scene reminds me of the part in HalfBaked when Bob Saget tells the group "I used to s*** d*** for coke! Now that's an addiction man" 😂 had me rolling!
When Randy puked at the police station 😂😂😂😂😂
"Fantastic Easter Special" is also great episode!
"No youre not!" That was the funniest part of this video 😅😅😅😅
Yo discovered you recently and have been binge watching your reactions and you are quickly becoming one of my fav react youtubers. Keep up the amazing work!
The Benedictus quote about chicks bleeding is one of the best examples of satire ever.
this literally happened to me like 15 years ago with alcohol. subconsciously i thought i was ill like AA says and that i had no control so i spiraled down into a dark pit of alcoholism. i was drinking mass amount of alcohol for over a decade. i eventually stopped and turned my life around. having a purpose in life helps.
Did you catch Craig disease and flipped off a wrong person? 😂 Hope it heals good, thx for your effort to montage it like this.
The Vatican hated this episode. So you know it touched a sore spot with them.
"I'm not drinking and driving, i'm driving while i'm drinking, right boys?" 😂
Ahhhh, an upload from one my favorite channels on a Saturday I've taken off.
Edit: What kind of Karate did you do Dash thats awesome!
I never thought I would like reaction videos. My boi you are the only one I watch. I see the South Park episode you're watching and go "ohhhhhhhh shiiiiiii"
Didn't an actual Saint statue start leaking water and people started tasting it only to find out it was a sewage leak...?
glad the intro isn't being hindered by the bandage on your hand, lookin as good as ever. hope you recover quick from whatever happened!
The last time the Blessed Virgin Mary blarted (blood farted) on my face, I got double barrel pinkeye.
What i never understood about a.a is you have to admit you're powerlessness but still also demonstrate the power to quit
Every neighborhood has a drunk driver like Randy.
Wow, didn’t expect an upload today dash thank you. i’m new to your channel, but I really like your videos . I’ve binged a lot of them I like how you pick out the small details translate some of the Japanese and I have a few recommendations, a pandemic, two-parter the one with the giant guinea pigs great episode with Randy as well and I should never of gone Zipline
Im shocked you havent reacted to "Cartmans incredible gift" yet. Thats a prime South Park classic
Cartman: "Then why did I see ice cream, and cookies when I closed my eyes?"
Kyle: "Because you're a fuckin' fat ass that's why!" 🤣🤣🤣
Drinking not a disease, it's a choice.
The only channel I have notifications for. Keep it up mate 👌
I rack discipling, so i don't drink. I stopped dreaming of having it under control. The problem of Stans theory is:
Because im an alcoholic, i can't possibly enjoy if i try to drink in moderation.
The long iguana-like sigh of disappointment...
Perfect.
8:45 that scared me i thought that was dash
1:45 - 1:46
(cuts to the Adventure Time episode, What was Missing.)
Finn: I'll get your kid back, toy.
Dude at 2:28 died in lil crime stoppers😂😂😂
dash got his cast from slapping that like button!
I lived in Denver for years and I love how they put in real locations, like Colfax Avenue - which you flashed. Also, did you know who Colfax is named after. 😊
Lost is just a show that keeps asking questions that usually lead to more questions. oh and they love flashbacks
10:16 THIS is what "you laugh, you lose" means. Not just funny things. Things you'll laugh at that you shouldn't. So you lose.
I believe this episode was about the virgin Mary statue that has been seen crying while it was indoors and was claimed to be a miracle. There were a lot of Catholic churches moving it from one place to another so a lot of people could see it back in the day.
this is so real for italy rn where a lot of ppl are praying a madonna statue who cry pig's blood
My grandmother and I used to argue about this all the time. Alcoholism is not a disease! (my opinion)
I love seeing how far South Park can push you before you break 😂
I'm also gonna keep adding to the list of episodes you need to see that explain ongoing references, new characters, and character changes you keep coming across, with the episode "Mr. Garrison's Fancy New Vagina". Add that to "The Passion Of The Jew" and "The Death Camp Of Tolerance". You should definitely watch all three!
like the arm/hand cast constantly giving us the finger, feels at home for a south park reaction
ok sorry for posting so much, but you are still the most wholesome reactor on youtube, we
1:08 Fun fact: drinking while driving is what I *thought* drink driving meant when I was a kid, and I thought any drink would qualify. I thought the idea was not to obscure one's vision or to have only one hand on the steering wheel.
10:20
Dash flipping us all, the Bird! 🖕😂🖕
The hairstyle of randy was priceless
I tried to stop drinking many times, being sober 2-3 months as much. After seeing this episode I started controling the amount and times I drank with a total success.
Now I drink way less and have more fun than before.
As a Christian, I don't think I'd see a statue bleeding as anything Miraculous, Divine, or Holy.
On another note, any episode centered around Randy is hysterical. Something, like a trend, is going around the town and he hops on it immediately.
Yeah I enjoy you doing a Randy Marsh episode reaction! You’re the best!
lol! "where's that blood coming from?"
I agree with Stan
I got drunk watching this reaction, alcohol is the best drug ever man ima never stop!
The bigger the opening, the easier it gets and the opening of a beer bottle is VERY risky to make the story short.
What I love about this episode is that Ike is a yellow belt while Cartman, Stan, and Kyle are white belts.
Ike crushes puss BRUH 😂
It’s nice to come home from work and watch a new dash reaction
14:54 hold on, was that actually you in the video? Either way cool little stealth insert there :-)
"we are the same, you and i" 🤣
