    Thanks for this! I’ve been doing my own dip since May after having acrylics for a couple of years. I love being able to change colors often but I don’t like that I have to do my nails sooner than I want because I always have one or two that pop off. I’m thinking it’s because of my cuticles. I’m glad you showed how you do it with the e-file. A regular file takes too long. The e-file has made such a big difference in how my dip looks.

    Hi thank you for the video. I have two questions you showed how to do it with the file at the beginning and then you use to drill, so was just so either or or all this is what you do with a hand file as well and then after you use a drill or was it for people that don’t have a drill you were showing them hand files first.? My second question is does the bond dry your nails from oil is that also use after the filing? Thank you.

    • @MarlaKris
      @MarlaKris  Рік тому

      Hey love! You can use a hand alone, an efile alone, or a combo of the two! Totally personal preference.
      Dehydrator (which is a combo of alcohol and acetone) removes all the oils from the nail and any dust from filing 💞

  • @aprildegele1510
    @aprildegele1510 Рік тому

    My go to is a glass cuticle pusher. Soft swirls around the dead cuticle, pushing back the live cuticle at the same time, a brush to remove the schmutz, and you're done. NO e-file needed. A quick go around with the pointy end to remove the rest, a quick buff to remove the shine, a swipe to desiccate (after experimenting, I agree that remover is better than alcohol for longevity), and you're good to go.
    I have an e-file, but honestly, if the prep and application is done properly, an e-file is unnecessary. I only use the e-file when I get too many lumps and bumps to file (a tech ruined my nails, and I can't seem to figure out how to NOT get a hump on the end of my nail when dipping ... but that's just me) .
    I'm still dealing with a horrible manicure I got nearly 6 months ago when the tech aggressively took my nail plate down to unrecoverable without grow-out. About half way there. Ugh. Considering builder gel to help with the spoon nail tips I'm left with.
    NOTE: A before and after picture on FB is NOT a good gauge of how skilled a tech is. Just don't rely on pictures of a great mani. If you can, go and observe a mani. Likely, most places won't just let you watch and if they don't, then find someplace else. Any nail salon worth their salt will allow you to watch a mani (with the client's permission of course), because they have nothing to hide.

      Pouring over instead of dipping may help. You may need to level things out with acrylic and monomer or builder gel/ poly gel or even full cover tips first before dipping if you have low points.

      Hey love! I have a bunch of efiles in my amazon storefront BUT this is the one tool I use that really is a “you get what you pay for” tool. The cheapo efiles you see on amazon are exactly that - cheap. And not very effective/won’t last very long. I’m a budget girl. 100%. But not when it comes to an investment like an efile.

    Do you ever get a "ring of fire" when removing your set which is based a ring from doing the cuticle prep. I get that no matter how gentle i am with the e-file. I use the ball bit and nothing else. Im sad that my nails have gotten so thin since dipping and i really minimally file my natural nail

    • @MarlaKris
      @MarlaKris  Місяць тому

      All nails are built different. You may have naturally sensitive or thin nails which may not jive well with certain types of prep. I used to use an efile for YEARS but my prep has changed into much more simplistic measures and my nails have become much stronger. Thats not to say you can’t efile.. but perhaps try a different bit like a fine sanding band or a diamond flame bit (my personal fave)
