  • As the fictional Game of Thrones launches its third season a different game of intrigue is unfolding in Saudi Arabia. In this report we take a look at the history of the Saudi dynasty and its key pillars. We ask important questions, who will be the third in line once King Abdullah passes away? As the second generation princes, who have ruled the country for most of its 80 year history, are now few in numbers, its likely that a third generation prince will enter the game of thrones. A critical evolution in the House of Saud. This new chance will further divide the ongoing divisions rivalries in the Saudi dynasty. It will also put uncertainty on a key pillar, unity among the leadership.

Excellent report as always. One tend to view a geopolitical situation in a short time frame, usually in a human lifespan of less than a century (+- 3 generations), that brings you some possible stability, but once you see it in a more historical context of hundreds of years then the big shifts will most likely occur, and as the Caspian Report pointed out we are approaching an important milestone for the Saudi Arabia...wait to see the big changes.

The path they choose for administrative reforms would be the key for their future.

I would like to say that in the 1950s there was a television program in the USA and they interviewed a Saudi Royal. He specifically said that they know the oil will not last forever and their aim was to EDUCATE their people in engineering and science so as to make a good transition into the future. now we see all these years later that sitting around drinking tea and chit-chatting is what they do whilst paying foreigners to do the work, even whatever that work may be. just wave money at it.

I understand in some ways why change was required in the 'Saudi Empire' for the next ruler and hope you might could help me understand more... the message Im hearing is that because the 2nd generation is not as educated or is not high enough in numbers (in the flesh) that it was a wise move to call upon the 3rd generation. Does that mean that 2nd generation looses right to the throne? Who or what is going to be the deciding factor in who will earn the title of King. And does inviting democracy mean there will be a government and a King? Im just learning about your country, as it is very fascinating to me, so correct any misunderstanding, but gently please.

I share you thoughts that the religious establishment has too much power in the Kingdom. However the Saudi dynasty has always been intermingled with the Wahhabi movement. In fact the Wahhabi family merged with the Saudi family, through marriages, and now the Saudis are the legitimate body of Wahhabism.

From where the words 'King' and 'Prince' had been derived? How much money/wealth a Head of Government can legally enjoy and his 'Dos' and' Do no's are well defined in a good Government system. In monarchism, anarchism today or tomorrow is likely. This may well tackled by amiable discussion and introducing democratic practices in all spheres of life.

  • @muzzafarkhan7448

How can a family and its close allies within a clan system own a whole Country? The historical facts about how Saud's Arabia came into being are well documented and there is therefore no need to go back to the issue. One thing is for sure and that is Saudi Arabia will face the same fate that other Arab States are currently facing in the Middle East.Democracy, not necessarily,Westminster model, must as a fact be introduced and this may only become possible with the third generation princes who are better educated and understand how Governments work around the world.Since it was founded, Saudi Arabia has been ruled by a Monarchy system that has no place in Islam and the world as it is today and as it will be in future.
