I was once caught in a rip tide off the coast of North Carolina as a kid. I was so scared I couldn't scream for help. Have you never been in Oregon coast surf? Even with calm waves, keeping your footing in knee high water gets scary quick, it's not like you can run while you're being knocked off your feet. Most people don't understand how strong the water is until they're in it.
She did what she should, keep your head above water and try to brace against being pulled further out. Just doing that will drain you like a hard round of boxing or wrestling, you can see the effort just getting to her feet after.

King Tide: A spring tide at perigee
Spring tide: A tide at full moon and new moon that has higher highs and lower lows because the gravitational pull is stronger since the earth, moon and sun are aligned (in syzygy).
Perigee: when the moon is closest to earth in monthly lunar cycle, there are 12 perigean moons a month.
Super moon: a full moon in perigee, happens about 3 to 4 times a year.
So, a King Tide only happens with a Spring Tide in Perigee. Some of those are perigean new moon, but when it happens on a perigean full moon that moon is called a Super Moon.
So this was a Super Moon King Tide...aka just a tide with higher high and lower lows even higher than normal spring tides, and at full moon. The heavy waves are besides the point, a wave is not a tide.

The story, like those by many Portland media this weekend, confuse King tides and sneaker waves. Many stories I have seen make it sound like King tides are the problem. The problem is sneaker waves caused by storms, under sea topography and other factors. Sneaker waves can happen any time of year, not just when king tides occur. Of course, when tides are so high, there is little to no beach to walk on so if a sneaker wave happens the person can be trapped if they're below a bluff or slope like this woman was.

For all the armchair heroes bleating and repeating "cameraman bad person" I guarantee faced with the same situation you would/should not be rushing into the water if you have any sense. A heaving shore break coming off a deep drop with a huge current is way beyond any human's ability to fend off or control. The ocean is notorious for taking potential rescuers along with the victim. There was nothing he could do in those few moments except watch and call for help. She was beyond lucky.

Just saying, I would have stopped recording and ran closer as a reflex. This guy, like so many people now, reflexively just record.

@@jamesmccormick2696 I know. I also saw him keep the camera on her to make sure he was ready to catch the moment she gets sucked out. People used to try and think of some way to help. Move closer. Look around for anything to help. Not anymore. Now, people think of recording or, in this case, keep recording.
And, I don't blame her. I grew up here in Florida and never saw a king tide. I've heard of it, but never really knew what it was. She was just walking near the water and probably had no idea that could have happened. She knows now, though.
