I had a really fun game in Atlanta the other day that I really wanted to share. It also serves as a good game to show how to play light cruisers in this game. They aren't too hard if you play to their strengths while mitigating their weaknesses. On a positive note Atlanta will be keeping its 13.3km range unlike flint.
I'm Potato_Quality, a member of O7, and probably one of the best battleship players in this game. Hopefully, on this channel, I can teach you a bit about how battleships are played. Thanks for watching.

One more tip for playing the Atlanta: do not find yourself in max zoom level, zooming out from second to third level and you'll find it easier to hit farther target.

I find no problem playing against T9's in my atlanta, i find it a bit tough when the maps are more open, but once you get used to this ship it's sooo fun to play it.
Plus IFHE is just a waste of 4 points...
Agreed I have no problem in T9 games other than than the range as the islands tend to be more spaced out.

I love how he drops in little bits of info, like what he was saying ab 'free look' for example. Those little nuggets can be really helpful when you're new and there's so much to learn in this game that dropping those little tips can be a game-changer for someone who wants to learn to be better.

When you grow weary of the grind, Atlanta is one of those "Just for fun" ships. Play it correctly and you will make the whole red team cry because it's raining HE steel on them....a bb pushes around the corner of an island in your gun range...nothing but tears, and he cannot escape or shoot you back. DD's at 10k or under flee in fear...at least they should, or they are not too smart...fun ship, love it.
Atlanta is my favorite ship. I love the challenge it gives, it’s a very rewarding fun ship. And it teaches you how to position!
However, I’ve never used the AFT with the extra range, I’m so used to play the stock range that I manage to deal with it pretty well, even in higher tiers ! Maybe I’m weird but I like the fact that I can fire more safely at a ship behind an island even if there’s a ship behind me sailing over my 11.1km fire range detectability.

Nice upload, I always enjoy watching and listening to your advice. So last night I finally got to be on your team with Maltese Knight, sadly for me I was in a tier 8 light cruiser in a tier 10 match, I so tried to follow you guys and support you in BBs, but unfortunately, I got dev struck from a Yammy, was gutted my game ended early, I felt a noob, but glad you guys carried me +1

Stress that positioning is key. With a good island and good position I have turned entire flanks and stacked up fire damage getting witherers and arsonists.
I enjoy this ship, the Mainz, and the Bayard. Some of my favorite ships.

On my build for randoms, I take IFHE, AFT, and CE. PQ says he would take off DE, but that only leaves you with 2.5% fire chance (or me 3% since I usually run one fire flag). For me when I compared it, the lack of fires was hurting my damage more than the 10% direct damage boost, so I chose to nearly double my fire chance for that 10% penalty. I think it's a good trade here since we are talking about nearly doubling the fire chance. Now if it was something like a RU DD or UK DD that already has good fire chance then I would not do this trade since the percentage boost would not be that much.

How do you play her against CVs, especially t8 CV? I've found that in my ATL even t6 CVs have no issues striking me at least once, especially if they use islands to block my AA until they strike. Do you suggest just not using island cover when CVs are targeting you in light cruisers?

Would you consider a Haru a light cruiser? I know it is a Destroyer but I swear I end up being able to contribute more to my team if I play it behind islands, raining HE on the other team, while spotting when I can (when I know a low concealment DD on the other team is not going to out-conceal me).
Hotlanta was my First Freemium when I started Playing last Year... Fun Boat, do kinda wish the Torp's had a Bit more Range, but the Flamethower Option is a Hoot....
What is the mod that gives you a "+" instead of "o" where you're aiming in your minimap? Great video. Really appreciate the little tips you throw out for new players. Even basic ones like explaining "free look" in this case can be super helpful to new players and it makes your channel helpful to all skill-levels.

a few things where my opinion differ from PQ:
1) for the "show broadside" part, i regularly do that.......
first is that enemy dont always have perfect aim, i feel perfectly comfortable doing the gamble as long as MMM doesnt tell me enemy is a 60%+ WR unicum. random isn't competitive play after all.
second is that, out of my 300~400 recent atlanta games, i dont remember being 27500->0 even once. yes a few times i got to below 5k in one salvo from showing broadside and doing a turn, but never gone in one salvo.
third, atlanta might be a lot more "smolensk-like" than you imagined when dealing with overpens
yes i do expect to lose around half my HP for doing the turn, but it's not THAT big of a deal, and is a valid route when im considering my positioning
2) heavy cruiser
only when enemy knows to shoot AP. truth is half or more heavy cruisers i face just keep spamming HE at me. when they are using HE not AP, their DPM is even lower than same tier light cruisers.
second is that, heavy cruisers tend to have slow turret traverse. when i try to pick a fight with them, i always try to make sure they need to spend at least ten or more seconds to get their guns to turn toward me, giving me enough time to chunk at least 10k HP off them before they get to shoot back. if i cant make sure i have this advantage, i just dont pick a fight with heavy cruisers.
as for the arc thing, atlanta hates fighting anything in long range in general, not limited to against heavy cruisers.
3) IFHE
for IFHE, not only does it allow penetrating T7 BB hull, it also allows atlanta HE to pen all T7 and below heavy cruiser hull
it basically make atlanta penetrate everything T7 and below and be a complete monster. it kind of is a debuff when facing T8 and above, but atlanta against T8 T9 is just as helpless with or without IFHE, so i think it's better to build it to bully T7 and below

P.S. my overall atlanta stat is garbage, but that's cuz it's the ship i "grow up with". i bought it before i got my first tech tree TX, and now im at some twenty five tech tree TXs.

Sub 1k battles should not be considered “new” IMO - sure maybe sub 700 battles I think could be considered new. But man by the time I reached 1k battles I had a 54% win rate and around 55k average damage. Players like this Wesley guy just play and play and never learn from mistakes lol.
That and literally never read from the wiki about overmatch mechanics and autobounce angles
@@xymonvillapando9129 to be fair Wargaming really needs to put more of that info directly into the game. But, you'd think after doing poorly in a game you play so much, you would go and google search some stuff lol. Sometimes I think this poor attitude towards learning and wanting to be spoonfed info probably reflects on those kinds of players in real life lol.
Considering he has exactly the same name as the wesley001 in World of Tanks, he might as well be the same player
@@poopsie117 idk man, I'm pretty sure I have well past 2k battles and I have exactly one battle past 100k damage, and deal like what, 20k average? Being new at a game doesn't necessarily correlate directly to how much you've played it, but rather to how much of it you've picked up.

Like the fire chance to much to take ifhe. Any ship with armour gets to experience the pov of a fatty beef bbq burger, QUAD FIRES FOR DAYS :D
would dropping IFA + PM and taking Last Stand be helpful? Or do you find PM prevents rudder/engine knock outs?

i still have ptsd from atlantas from way back when. i still instinctively make it a priority to kill if i see it. That sharney definitely had your number, but got distracted. a sharnhorst can eat an atlanta so easily.
Atlanta was my Cit farmer when that mission would come up.
Take her into Co-Op and go full Yolo in her. At point blank you can average 11 cit's or better a round. That includes the rounds you get smashed before you can get close. Best I did was 36 cits in one round.
Just don't try it in Random.
Now imagine if Atlanta dual purpose cannon was dual purpose.
Hi Potato, really enjoying your content! I have a kind of different question: I have around 5800 games played with a 58 % win rate, my battles survived on the other hand is around 35 %. I think of me having an impact to win the game, even tho that means pushing in and dying earlier some of the time. What is your take on the battle survived percentage? Thanks!
Battle survival depends on what type of ships you play the most. If you play DDs aggressively you will survive less battles but thats normal. If you play cancer CVs you will survive most battles.
As @Joca said before, it depends on the class... If you wanna better yourself look at the advanced winrate on each class on an external website.

At least he appeared to be on the map here. In WoT he generally runs to a corner of the map and 'reports' players in tanks he views as OP. Yowser...

A. Nevsky very good Light Cruiser design, it’s one of those light cruisers that you can just casually tank a Kremlin 😂 one of my fav cruisers for sure, along with Stalingrad and Hindenburg

PQ, I had to rewatch this video so I could focus on the awesome chat bar. lol. That being said, I'm getting better with my Atlanta, I was noticing that there are ten guns in the back, so I decided to use that to my advantage in running away while blasting the enemy. :-)

Hey PQ, can you make a siegfried video? I haven't seen many high level players comment on it since it released.
Last Stand would probably be better than Adrenalin Rush as it's so easy to have your engine knocked out and the armour is no thicker than a DD so you don't want to be immobilised in an Atlanta and the guns are already fast enough.
I'm rarely play this ship because the shell fly kinda slow? The aiming feel off that frustrated me.

Flint may not ahve the range but it does have smoke. Also, imo the only reason Atlanta is not OP is because it got power crept. Use to be op. Now its just balanced by accident

Good ship if playing against same tier or lower but that is pretty rare these days. The +-2 tier MM has screwed a lot of good ships unfortunately.
So, I am really curious as to what changed between this video and now. (Nope, not sarcasm, really curious.) You liked the Atlanta then, but you don't like the Atlanta-ish line of Pan-Asian cruisers now. Chumphon is missing the two midships dual 5"/38 mounts and has a substantially slower reload, but that could be written off as the difference between a Tech Tree ship and a Premium. (Wargaming recently gave me an Atlanta for some obscure reason, which is why I circled back to this video.) Some possibilities:
1. Smoke for a cruiser is a poor substitute for radar (and potentially Hydro, although you run Def. AA). Smoke may be a primary tool for destroyers but is very situational for a cruiser, being big enough to blind-fire and much more vulnerable to torpedoes. I.E. - standard smoke for a cruiser gives the illusion of cover while solid rock gives actual cover.
2. Evolution of the game has had negative impact on the usability of bamboo-and-rice-paper cruisers with destroyer guns. I forget when Wargaming did an armor upgrade for a number of Tier VII cruisers - might be a factor, although IFHE would still be good for the 25mm armor on the New Orleans and Yorck. Proliferation of heavy cruisers and some battleships with more accurate main batteries. The list goes on.

i never looked into ifhe but what makes it not as reccomended anymore? Pretty sure lots of people still use it for gunboat dds
IFHE right now cuts fire chance by half. It's a pretty big change from the old IFHE that only reduces fire chance by 1%
In an MM where mostly are T9 it's a waist of time, also it will be buffed next update with 13.5 range instead of 11
I've had that chat moment happen multiple times in my Atlanta. Mostly enemies reporting me for "camping behind islands". Its ridiculous honestly. Not to be outdone though, a teammate said the exact same thing recently. And then put a full AP broadside through me. Ain't this game fun...
12.4 km range on Flint vs 13.3 on Atlanta, but Flint has a smoke, hydro and 9.2km torps that do almost 17k damage. I still prefer Flint.
What is that green/yellow/red dot above your targets?
It tells the player if the ship is going forwards, backwards or stationary. Green = Forwards, Yellow = Stationary, Red = Backwards.

30k and a near solo KILL before 5 minutes. Your ship is paid for, now the rest is gravy.
The super light cruiser overpen are decided by AP shell fuse, trajectory and gun caliber, not penetration values.

I expect the atlanta reported guy to start reporting Yamato/Musashi /Shikishima players cuz they can pen his nose but he cant pen theirs.
Also funny he says illegal mods but the thing that killed him (assumubg he was that dd in smoke, probably was that guy) was the mini map. Its a pretty big cheat, but a cheat available to literally everyone... Recently I killed a dd 10+km away with my Yamato and using the mini map for guidance then boom Yamato reported for cheating..

This thing won´t luckily work in WoWs - unlike the real world, where anyone can ruin your carrier if they want to without prior evidence, just based on their claims and hype (metoo) or based on your out-of-context-drawned-out 4 years old tweets (that "lovely" witch hunt happened to James Gunn for example and therefore we don´t have another Guardians of the Galaxy yet)
Atlanta...man this is one of only two ships I truly regret buying.
It was probably the first premium I ever bought, as well, way back in...2016, I think? Very early days.
I hated it from the off. I still do.
Funny how Atlanta has opinions that are so opposed to each other. Atlanta is hands down the premium that has given back the most to me. My ship currently has 11.5 million xp sitting under it. It and an Fiji are THE BEST narai ships in the game. Those two are the only two ships that I can routinely get over 400k damage in. As PQ says... in random, it can be quite powerful for the tier.

Man... how my opinion changed in just a month after I posted this! xD
I had been playing Atlanta as a fire starter, but my RNG was horrific. I'd go for entire games with zero fires, despite getting 400 or 500+ gun hits (mostly shatters due to a lack of IFHE).
So I tried IFHE.
First game...I get caught by an unexpected KGV as we both tried to cross a gap in some islands. I was passing from one island to the next and he was charging in. He was 4km away, with all his guns pointed else where (cross map sniping, or something).
I panicked and threw my first salvo into his bow, as I crossed his T. 10k damage! xD
Needless to say, my opinion of it changed right there. All thanks to IFHE!
Why I never tried it before is beyond me.
