- This has to be one of the craziest ships I've ever played. You can be so aggressive and get away with it, even carry games by pushing. This ship gives me hope that one day the game won't be all about boring HE spam from 20km.

Magical Stalinium shells with short fuse that never overpen and high velocity with very near equal penetration to Bismarck's 15" guns: Check
Shortened fire duration because of the cruiser labelling: Check
More armor than some tier X battleships (Thunderer, Conqueror and Republique) that can shatter other cruisers HE: Check
So much more armor you can actually angle against Yamato and Shikishima shells which can't be done by the previously mentioned BBs: Check
Slim and sleek hull that can sometimes cause BB caliber shells to overpen: Check
Workable maneuverability despite all that armor as if moving and turning a ship that heavy wasn't going to be difficult or problematic based on hydrodynamics: Check
Low free board making your citadel hard to hit: Check
(Don't question this last part because the waves in Soviet Russia are never turbulent tovarische, lest the face the ire of Stalin)

don't worry the petro takes all my pens at the moement i am running at 1 pen per selvo for no damage ,so load he 4000 damage most times . never used to be that way . i have 1 game yesterday where i had a 56000 salvo at 20 plus ks , i said WTF the game is a lottery

I see this is uploaded right after I rushed down two broadsiding thunderers in my Petro at 5km and got 12 citadels, killing them both... truly the best BB.
on the other hand, you manage to show your broadside, pretty much guaranteed death.

Hardly. Thunderer and Conqueror will wreck Petro extremely easy. In fact anyone with decent HE wrecks Petro that moves like a brick and cant hit a side of a barn.

my favorite part of the ship was that all wg CC's were saying "yeah it will be strong in randoms, its fine it will just get focused out in comp and clan wars" and look at it now, its crazy how things turn out huh...
CC's judgement is frequently flawed. They crapped all over the Marceau too, and that thing dominates randoms and competitive play. I consider what they say, but I won't love or hate a ship based off what they say anymore.

Yea I remember my first game after grinding through Riga. I think I ended with 14 citadels after the first game, and like 9 citadels in the follow up game. I remember just laughing and thinking how broken that is, especially when ships try to angle, but not angle enough for the improved pen angles.
I mean, its pen angles are good, but they're actually not as good as the USN pen angles. The soviet ones only give an additional 5 degrees of angle iirc. In terms of pen angles the best is the RN, the USN, then RU heavy line

Yea, but it doesn't affect Petro. Petro doesn't get the penalty of battlecruiser/large cruiser which has the same fire duration of battleships.

Don't sweat it. It's Russian. WG doesn't nerf Russian ships. Worst you have to worry about is a bit of health shaved off your AA. Which doesn't do anything anyway :P
@@RPGTKingpin they did nerf it alot compared to the early test versions though, just look at flamus Videos to see.
@@thelvadam2884 Sure, but that doesn't mean they nerfed it enough. And to illustrate, I invite you to have a look at the overall performance of vessels in the game. As memory serves, Petro and Stalin take up the top two spots on the list almost consistently on all servers.
And judging by the fact I was able to achieve a near 200k damage 7 citadel game fighting battleships while taking minimal damage point blank against the second biggest guns in the game, on my very first run in Petro, where I struggle to break 150k damage and consistently get blown out of the water in my main cruiser which I've been playing consistently for the past 4 years... Yeah I'm comfortable saying this ship is nuts. Even after the nerfs.

Potato, you forgot the most stupid thing about this one, the taknyness of this ship is mostly due to ridiculously low freeboard, superstructure is small ye, but oh boy this thing sits lower in the water than most destroyers, it is a small target to hit, and when you eventually do, its an overpen or shatter.....
Learn to use HE or SAP vs a nose in Petro. A nose in Petro is also a perfect target for CV attack.

@@user-dp4ok9ox5w You know that horizontal dispersion is the problem when shooting a target that is far away, as shells get spread over a large area horizontally, which means a nose in Petro is easy to hit as much as RNG allows it.
The point you made about aiming and using correct ammo has nothing to do with the apparent problem here, Petropavlovsk nose in is almost as small target as a DD, and vast majority of ships will only be able to HE pen the upper part of the bow.
Skill and knowledge is not something that stops ppl from effectively dmging Petro, its rather a combination of its small size, armor layout, arbitrary pen values plus the rng.
Just wait for the commander rework,where this thing gets improved dispersion at longer ranges and improved reload within your conceal range, if that gets implemented.
Yea wait also for Italian BB's with their insane SAP (like it does already from cruiser SAP). Petro already eats massive damage from BB HE (and Cruiser HE too with good enough pen).
@@user-dp4ok9ox5w how massive? This ship isnt even that big of a target. If you receive huge dmg its cause you didn't pay attention and couldnt dodge or you were focus fired
@@neonlight1214 Its plenty of a big target for HE that pens over 50mm. The ship only sits low in the water, otherwise its not that small. I have no problems in removing nose in Petros in ranked battles (or randoms) with my Thunderer (Conqueror probably does it even better and Henri or Goliath can work fine too).
@@user-dp4ok9ox5w That goes for all ships... thunderer and conqueror can remove anything trying to angle. The only special case I see is when petro is going up against hindenburg or roon which are tough targets if they angle and run away plus they can pen your deck to death.
@@mrslendydude Nah. Other ships can at least maneuver, but if Petro, Moskva or Stalin goes nose in its a fiery death that awaits them.
Haven't unlocked Petro quite yet but if it can keep up what is possible in Riga plus going off this video I'm very much looking forward to it. I had a Riga game the other day where i was abandoned on a push versus 2 BBs plus a Roon and an Amalfi, and still survived the whole match. Tallinn wasn't near as good but personally Riga seems enjoyable on the way to Petro. This is the first time I've played a cruiser line where I more often than not feel comfortable playing aggressively in the right situation.
How to improve AP performance for ships in WoWs? You either give it:
- Better alpha (German)
- Better pen
- Better pen angles (American)
- Shorter fuse (British CL)
Fuck it, let's just give the Petro all of them.
A ship like that wouldn't be balanced.
You need to add superb survivability to balance it.
Petro accuracy is terrible and Thunderer or Conqueror can burn down a nose in Petro quite quickly. The only thing Petro is tanky is against AP when its nose in. People need to stop spamming AP into a nose Petro. You switch to HE even with all BB's and CA's. Petro goes down just as fast as any other heavy cruiser vs HE that has decent pen. Hell, even SAP is great against Petro and Italian BB's are coming soon.
I got her a few days ago. She does not disappoint. And I only have a 15 point captain for her. Awesome ship. Love the firing angles, and of course the 360 turrets. I didn't mind Tallinn and Riga at all, but Petro is a whole other level.
A lot of people didnt like the talinn and the riga, i had no problems whatsoever getting consistently good results in those ships.
Yeah I was thinking the same, riga has almost as good armor, albeit with no 360 turrets and worse reload, and the talinn doesen't get the icebreaker and even a bit worse armor than Riga overall, but gets 12 180mm guns with good dispersion instead, making it very potent even on the HE. The real grind is all the ships leading up to the talinn IMO, as those ships can easily die to luck
yea, i like Riga, Tallin is good, not the best but is ok.

@ANUBHAV SHARMA Oh yeah you are right i just double checked them. Its the other Soviet cruiser line that does not get them, though i think Nevsky and Donskoi should get improved pen angles in my opinion.
Thing I like best about this ship is when a volley of APs comes in and just bounces off your hull like a car in a hail storm. Russian Bias is fun.

I hate playing against this ship solely because every time I expect a citadel I get overpens. That's just stupid
If you're in a BB, there's not much you can do. If you're in a cruiser, there's not much you can do. If you're in a DD, there's not much you can do. That's the definition of the kind of ship that should not be in the game - same as CVs.
Except you can. BBs will obviously always win, most cruisers can out DPM petro, especially if they stay at least 12km away and DDs? I mean...since when is petro a threat to DDs. The only truly good thing about it is its armor......and 360 degree turrets.
@@bormos3 Hey, I'm only quoting the video and as for the threat to DDs - it's a 12km radar cruiser. The first thing that anyone who plays DDs does in a new game is check how many radar cruisers there are.
@@simongodfrey3765 petro can only fire a single salvo during its radar, unless it has an upgrade mounted and is already preaimed, in which case it just might squeeze in two salvos...soviet CLs are a much bigger threat to dds
@@bormos3 Plus focus from the rest of the team. Also once radared your general location is known, so your options are reduced - area denial.
Any BB simply has to switch to HE shells and it will wreck any nose in Petro.
And 360 guns are just sooooooooo good! :)
You certainly need them with that battleship level of accuracy on Petro.
Literally got this ship a few days ago and I'm not sure why I didn't get it earlier, the shells are something else. Tallin was annoying af Riga was quite a bit better imho.
Tallin was pretty shocking ngl. Kinda the ugly ducklingof the RU CA line. Riga at least was decently tanky. Petro really was worth it though

Love this ship! Great in clan battles too! Carriers give it hell in clan battles but it's so is amazing. Pretty much fire AP all the time if you can HE does great against Dd but other than that it's great. Rear turret on it is awesome 360 turning radius.

since this thing does full AP pens to DDs, just fire a hair below waterline and watch the DDs evaporate ...
I shot down all of an FDR rocket squadron simultanously in one puff in CBs, so the ship is probably the closest to a no-fly-zone you'll get in a cruiser, without being easily taken out by one.
@Potato Quality I dont know what your clan mates told you, but Tallinn is an absolute monster at T8, its a Eugen hull with 180mm guns that have way better pen than DM and Zao, the only T10 ship that has similar pen is Goliath's 234mm guns, not to mention improved pen angles and 12km stealth radar. Now Riga is a also a monster, it has Moskva's pen, improved pen angles as well 35mm deck amd sides, which is only vulnerable to Shikishima, but unlike Petro, if you give broadside in her, you WILL get citadeled. Forgot to mention, Tallin has very good firing angles so you dont need to worry about that. My stats for backing my story up: IGN: danny_s1nker EU
I think you should go back and try out Riga. I typically have a ton of fun in it, switching between dd hunter, HE bb farmer, and cruiser killer with the armor piercing. It doesn't have the tankiness of petro but it has the same caliber, reload, and radar. It kites reasonably well and it still has considerably more armor than Tallinn plus the heal.

i like that , people feel they can have a fight again , i have had some great battles againest the petro . havn't won yet .
the other great thing is, its like the somlensk , it chases players away , evn though the soml can be one shotted from the back line
The only thing I would say about the petro is that they are still susceptable to HE spam unlike some T10 BBs with deck armor. However even then, the stupidly low freeboard on this (as well as the Kremlin) makes them so much harder to hit from longer ranges.
Would be a pretty nice ship if I wasn't facing 4 thunderers every other game. What is armor against those things lmao
One are of weakness is the upper belt just around the turret area on the bow. Theres a weird little weakness there that can take citadels. Its kinda similar to the same weakness on pommern, not very consistent but definitely the best place to aim if one is showing you a greater than 30 degree angle
Can confirm, hit it today several times with the Sov Soyuz.

One point that was missed in the review, the AA. I shot down a full rocket squad of an FDR in one flak puff using DFAA, now the guy wasn't good at CVs but even if you dodge the flak, the AA values are amazing compared to a lot of other ships
This ship is even dumber when kiting because it can fire at 25 degrees off centerline, which is good enough to autobounce even stalingrad ap. I think the biggest problem with this thing is just how damn low it is in the water. You can't punish it when played poorly.
Petro's AP angles are actually worse than Stalingrad, and quite a bit worse than Des Moines. They're only improved by 5°, so the Ricochet angles are 50-65° as compared to the standard 45-60°, the Stalingrad 55-65°, and the American superheavy 60-67.5°. Of course, that doesn't actually balance the ship in the slightest, since it still has ridiculous shell speed, absurd pen, incredible armour (including 300mm of spaced citadel armour (Des Moines citadel has 152mm, Stalingrad's has 180mm, Henri's spaced troll armour only adds up to 215mm, and even something like Yamato only has 410mm) and a 50mm icebreaker and deck) with very low freeboard, 360° turrets with good firing angles, good AA and radar. All of that, 'balanced' by..... an 'average' reload, poor HE, and 'poor' dispersion at long range
I used to be fairly doubtful of the Russian bias meme/accusation. Not anymore. Not since they released Petro with all of the above and also stealth radar.
The grind is ok for this one!
Tallin is fun imo (but hey, i still enjoy playing the Chappa, so there's that^^) . You get the same ap-"vibe", where you can absolutely devastate people giving you broadside, if you get in good positions, and compared to the Chappa you can get away with quite a bit more agressive playstyle, while still having to be smart and carefull about your positioning. When you top-tier though, the Tallin feels like slapping people left and right.
The Riga was a strange experience: Ship looks good, handles well, is fairly tanky, but kind of lacks the dmg potential? Specially the ap feels weaker then with Tallin and the Petro,
That said, i agree completely on the Petro itself- Fun to play! Specially for people, who enjoy playing more agressive then it would be advised for cruisers these days and who want to support their dds at the caps.
I might add, that i had a one on one against a Moskva lateley - both nose in - that i lost quite clearly due to the bad HE values and dispersion on longer range. After he angled in steeply, because my initiative AP salvos probably made him cringe, it didnt even feel like we were playing in the same league... whatever that experience is worth for anybody :P
The problem is that now that WG has everybody paying for free XP to get the thing it will be micro nerfed to death.

Kewl I've sorta stalled on the Tallin, it's like both AP and HE do nothing much at all regardless :) Probably worth pushing through though from the looks.
Tallin is a strong ship when she is not uptiered, however she does lack a heal imo.
Riga was a pain to grind through and I invested a lot of xp modifiers to get through her in ~30 games played.
Petro is my favourite ship hands down...
lol tanked 2.9 mil potential damage in a ranked game while dishing out over 100k, it's pretty nice but stalingrad and moskva still out rank it for damage/tank. i do love driving past BBs and sinking 9 citadels though :) what really makes that ship though is it's 360° turrets that allow you to turn and slalom while keeping all guns on target at almost the whole time. the AA isn't too bad either... had a CV in ranked just keep throwing planes at me till they finally killed me but not before i destroyed 47 planes and had almost 75k AA damage... almost double what i did to the enemy cruiser when i finally killed it.
New italian BB's should prove to be bigger petros if you see their armor btw.

@@dzello Just like i said, it sits low in the water, but otherwise its not that tiny of a ship. I think its wider than Nevsky even. Anyway it only means that more HE will land into Petros deck and superstructure than its sides. Its not like Petro is a maneuverable ship.
Engine that jukes like a DD or legendary DM, guns that pen better than a bismark, hull is a submarine, radar and detection are equal, 1000 shell speed, extra armor plate on vital parts, decently easy BB citadel power, and 360 degree turrets..... Remember this is post nerf too

Tallin is not bad but its not that special, but Riga is a lidl Petro, capabale of tanking a Georgia close range and shattering all her secondary hits. I remember forcing one to switch into HE after 4 minutes of shooting at me bow in without much effect xD.

I was in clan battles they had 3 petros and a thunderer.That was it for me got wasted in the salem.

Is there any point grinding the US heavy cruiser line anymore? I just got to the Baltimore, and the lack of range is becoming an issue. I know they have a different play style, US island hugging etc, but the Russian line seems to do everything the US does, but better? Interested to hear the views of people who have played both.
Lack of range sucks. I don't think des moines is at a good place right now.
The us line has better HE, and great concealment but shorter range. Russian line tend to have worse concealment but much longer range, less effective HE and larger turn radius.
Just got the petro, first game in it, 120k damage, lost of course because team mates were bigger enemies but I like it already
Had an 8 kill 200k dmg game in riga. Havent even reched petro. But tallin is also a dam good ship in this tech line
It get's wrecked by Goliath - It was the perfect counter to the Petro last CB.
Petro is my FAVOURITE ship. Like when I'm in that thing i have no fear. Pick a flank and just dominate. Fall back when needed heal up then more damage then GG
tbh the improved pen angle on petro is not as good as the US CAs'. However combine with the shell velocity and ballistic, plus the crazy penetration this gun can easily get full pens.
14. 39 using the w keys wins games now days . its having a ship that can stay alive long enough for your team mates take out the other team while you are froucsed fired . the JB is a beast at it . but dose reley on your team being awake . i have never won a target practice game yet
tallin is good at its tier and can uptier ok but caution needed. riga is randomly ok and situational generally. still a good DD killer.

Yeah, Petro is a cruiser with more armor than most BB's
PQ is clearly being intentionally sarcastic here because Petro, being a cruiser, actually is capable of tankiness and aggressive play that is impossible for any battleship to achieve. Thus it is the best "battleship".
@@forgingflame but there's no battlecruisers in wows. Kongo and Amagi were designed as battlecruisers too. However there's also displacement. Deutchland class were classified as cruisers despite having 11 inch guns.

as an RN CLs main I don't even know how do deal with this ship on my own.
I do know though. You in a mino you see a petro, you find an island. Hide. And pray. Pray a lot.
Play an RN CA and burn it down in Goliath. That was the only way to deal with it in CBs last season.

reset my US CA line (regret) and i use petro as my Des memes replacement, I like the ship but tend to get focused down if i push to far, I really recommend it though its basically what the kremlin dreams to be.

Petropavlovsk is the Soviet counterpart to the German pocket battleships, and would have served in the Black, White, Mediterranean, or Japan seas if she had actually been built.
Well this convinced me to spend the FXP. I am tired of Grinding. First game 4 kills 125k damage 12 citadels. It really is like a battleship.
Ye Petro can be nasty with ap,lots of overpens,but i get caught fwe times by Warchester. guns cant keep up rotation to folow that fast ship so if u get in that kind of situation just dont let him pass ....anw i love that ship ,not much games in it but when i get in ....
I know this Video is about the Petro but can we talk about how Maltese gets a witherer after 5 mins and a High Caliber aufter 7 mins? Never seen it that quick in Randoms
i play on asia , if you time it right and play with the pros , you GET to watch them farm , have had some very fast random battles and only shot a few times

IMO, while I found the Tallin not that fun, though by the end, i was comfortable. I really like the Riga, way better than any of the other T9 tech tree CAs that I've played (Buff., Roon, Neptune). BUT, my goal was definately the Petra

Tallinn is pain, Riga is a fine ship and is not too terrible to grind but I mostly free exp my petro.
petro can citadel yamato. thats how good the guns are.
Edit:even after reload nerf, still very strong. kremlin at long range is actually ok... it usually hits a few shells that those shells hit pretty hard.

This is way better than Kremlin. Why did I ever even touch Russian BB's? Why does anyone even touch anything else besides Russian Heavy Cruiser line, XD.

I go Full AA Petro build. Best game so far was 92 planes in a single match... Think it means something hahaha
Citadels need to be vulnerable. Period. They should be considered solid and should always fuse ap that pens its armor.
I love my Petro...but a lot of maps hamper my fun. that and teammates. Also, add hydro...imo. VT usually worst enemy when in Petro

I dunno. Sure she's tanky, but I find that whenever I pull the trigger in Petro, I'm thinking "man, I could be playing Stalingrad".
She's a better Stalingrad. No joke. Take Stalin, lower her in the water so her citadel is virtually unhittable at range. Then give her 360 degree turrets. There you go :P
@@RPGTKingpin Yeah, and take away the amazing 2.65 sigma, the 16mm overmatch, the punch of the 305s, the serviceable HE, halve the 30s radar, and reduce the AP pen angles.
@@rexstuff4655 Fair enough. But what even has sub-16mm armour at T10 aside from maybe light cruisers? From what I've seen Petro and Stalin both have improved AP pen angles. I don't recall the specifics of Stalin's guns, but Petro's 220s have the penetrating power of German 380mm guns.

1 more thing - this ship (even without DAA) have better AA then Des Moines and Worcester (even with DAA).
