    Used to spray lacquer in new custom homes in the Okc metro area years ago
    You forgot one thing that is a must
    You've got to have a big loud radio and you gotta crank it up real loud when you're spraying lacquer
    The music goes well with the nice high you receive from spraying the lacquer LOL!!!!!!

    The last comment I left on you page was regarding a front entry and using aresol lacquer under poly. That was years ago when I was completing a project at home. You responded by asking me if I was a chemist. So not very happy but got me thinking. Since then I've switched to C.V. with my projects. Much better durability than Precat but is less forgiving. After watching this video I will give you props for speed. Overspray is a bitch and you handled I well. I was amused by the wand and the 440 but not everyone can find a C.A.T. or Kremlin for cheap. I appreciatehow you took the time to stop and look for runs on that door. Material reduction can be a science. But shit. I'm no chemist. 😋

    sprayed umpteen gallons of lacquer at the state capitol in austin texas in 1983. in the senate chamber and adjoining offices. it was a remodel after a fire . and many custom homes since then. retired now. dont spray much,just for old customers. that first wiff of lacquer smells so good. but by the end of the day it gets overwhelming and your eyes have had it. dont do it without a good respirator. precat is the best imo.

  • @whoisjohngalt11
    @whoisjohngalt11 3 роки тому +2

    Do you need anything special for your sprayer in order to do this. I just have a homegamer setup (Graco Project Painter Plus), but I do furniture projects fairly often and would really like to use the sprayer for it. They suggest a "water-based lacquer", but I'm not even sure that's really lacquer.

      I have the same question. I bought the x5 graco and not sure if I can run lacquer, I do see conversion kits for other graco sprayers for lacquer but the kit they sell looks like the exact hoses and gaskets ect that my sprayer already has. strange that they do not specifically mention it in the manual, I am having a hard time finding an answer to this. maybe Ill just fire it up with some lacquer and see if anything melts or blows up haha I just bought mine so I could return it still.

    • @AsTheWheelsTurn
      @AsTheWheelsTurn Рік тому +1

      @@joshfierro9214 haha yes and it did not work out well! get the conversion kit if you will be spraying lacquer. I just use separate sprayers these days. one for water base one for lacquer . I also have a third much less expensive sprayer I use for oil base , actually just a cup gun for that , its bad to mix these differant products because no matter how good you clean it there will be some residue and you dont want little specks of water base paint getting in to you lacquer!

    • @joshfierro9214
      @joshfierro9214 Рік тому

      @AsTheWheelsTurn did it melt the gaskets or the inlet tube? I just bought a refurbished x5 that I have never used, so hopefully, paint residue shouldn't be an issue. I Build a lot of custom cabinets and built-ins, so I wouldn't mind dedicating for lacquer use.

    I mostly do residential and I'm starting to spray doors and casings for some commercial work. Lacquer is the easiest to put on, but I cringe seeing lacquer on handrails and windows. It just doesn't last, but there is where the money is. My question is are Lacquers more durable today then they were 15 years ago?

    When you paint a door like these, and they are closed. there must be a line on the edges, because of the door jams (not sure of the good english words here, because I'm french..) Do you complete the door once it is open?

    Thanks for the vid, I'm wondering if you use the same sprayer for lacquer that you use for paints and solid colours. Do you have one sprayer for clear? If you use it to spray pain and then lacquer can you get all of the colour out and not get spots of colour in your top coat? Thanks, appreciate it.

      Anything from that point 390 and above works with lacquer but would recommend 490 for better finish and less overspray and overall dust especially if you want to spray pigmented lacquer. For clear lacquer finish 390 is good enough.

    I have a Titan 440, the last time I sprayed Sherwin laquer I cleaned my rig with laquer thinner. Afterwards I discovered that the seals inside my rig were destroyed because of the laquer. This ever happen to you? Any Ideas why this would happen?

    • @ianholmes6078
      @ianholmes6078 3 роки тому +1

      I am not sure you got an answer already or not? Lacquer thinner is considered a 'hot' solvent; it's hard on seals. You will definitely see more seal failures after flushing with lacquer thinner.

    • @marcomendoza6456
      @marcomendoza6456 Рік тому

      Try rinsing it with mineral spirits afterward, then run hot water through it. It should help wash the thinner out!

    Chris,
    I am looking at spraying some Built-In in the living room along with the staircase railings. planning to restain them darker from maybe a golden oak to something darker. do you have any advice on doing them? I have both Graco HVLP (newbie and got one at a steal) or I also have a Graco 490 airless. I also plan on lacquering the kitchen cabs to a different color as they are currently a color with some glazing on them.
    for the Stained items do you put any lacquer thinner in to the stain and clear? and what parts ratio usually if so? and what about the tinted lacquer for the kitchen cabinets? I plan on using Hi-Build Pre Cat for the Kitchen cabinets. would you recommend using it on the ReStained areas too and I also do plan on spraying the BaseBoard trim, would you recommend a oil based paint for that or can we we use Hi-Build Lacquer as well?
