What an excellent interview. Mike Dearborn is a pillar in the techno community. So many unbelievably great tracks. Adam, you are a fantastic conversationalist. You ask the question, listen, and wait for the response without interrupting. Might seem pretty basic, but not a whole lot of people are very good at it. More podcasters need to take a lesson or two from you.
Thank you, I have to give thanks to the producer of the series Holger for explaining to me early on in the recordings not to do this. I agree it's very important not to interrupt. I do my best to not do so though sometimes you have to do it to continue on due time constraints
Thank you for doing this, Adam. I also wanna hug Mike for being too humble to take the legacy of "New Dimension". And add a personal story. Late 90s, I went to see Mike DJ at a fk'd industrial complex venue in Dresden/Germany. A labyrinth with idk how many floors on idk how many levels. It took me an eternity to find his floor. What felt like 3 levels underground. It was disorienting descent and got kinda claustrophic. I was constantly wondering "what if this shit starts burning and we need to get out here?". Upon finally entering the floor, he was rocking the flipside of his Possessed EP. That switched the anxiety off in an instant. Went home as one happy, grateful man.
Your welcome, thanks back at ya in return for sharing your story. It's not a bad thing to feel like that in regards to safety. I've been much more weary of this as well since the rave in Oakland a decade back and some years where many died from smoke inhalation from a bad fire. I have friends out there that knew many of those that passed.
@SonicGroovePodcast What a nightmare. I'm also speechless about the scenes from California at the moment. At the same time: I'd like to appreciate that we're at a point in time where we feel safe enough to be more open about these things in public. Hopefully establishing a fuller picture of what it means to be human along the way. Thank you pro-actively moving this forward, Adam
Only have one Dearborn record off Majestic. ( Blue sleeve, track nine one ). Good techno. The few times I've been to the smart bar he seems to be there when I was there. Loving these stories
Was such a pleasure to hear Mike play on nye at an underground rave in bk, honestly best set of the night! I don’t think many of the kids knew who he was, but he certainly left an impression that was felt! I was GLUED to the speaker, it was absolute madness
I've been appreciating the whole podcast series, and this episode really hit home for me. It's important to keep voices like Adam's, Mike's, and previous guests around, along with their music. Joe aka DJ Hyperactive in the background hanging in the cut too. Looking forward to the next conversations to come!
I use to sneak out of the house to hear Mike & PJ at the Dolton Expo center & Photon. Respect Gentleman. What up Adam, its Microdot. Sending love from Chicago.
Adam, you're spoiling us. You've pushed things onto a different level now. Mike Dearborn produced some of the best Acid House / Techno tracks. Happy new year ! 👍
Hell yeah, so cool to hear Mikes recollections! I always laugh when the Chicago and Detroit guys say how surprised they were people knew their work in the UK. We were always nerds about these mythical US releases. In the early 90's we all presumed they were like really old experienced musicians until we read interviews with them and realised they were all young adults like us :)
Haha, right, in reality we were all very young. I don't think there was anyone in techno making music in their 40's at this time. Not many even in their 30's. Who knew most of us would still be doing this 35 + years later.
Another great interview and two great fellas . It is a big deal to be hearing stories where ego is put to one side and its good to also hear criticism of the bullshit side of 'dance music' .I come from the 88 scene in Manchester so I have seen so much come and go and to be honest the music is the thing that as always made sense to me . Your interviews are great and alongsode Neil Control Weirdness who covers the UK side these are seriously insightful interviews Adam. Respect from Northern England.
Thank Brandon for the comment, I really appreciate comments as such coming from artists who music I played back then. I find them very motivational. Gonna keep it moving on and on. Respect from Brooklyn!
As per recent high standards in electronic musical history raccontouring, you guys keep the bar high, knowledge fresh and stories packing a punch! Thank you for the great contribution, keep on Rolling them out.
@SonicGroovePodcast Hey, there are things I love about the late 80s (House, and Acid House, and stuff like early Information Society in it’s infancy that I got to hear when I was younger with my Italian step father’s nephews in a predominantly Italian neighborhood in Ontario, Canada) there were things I hated about late 80s, OP and Vuarnet clothes were among them lol 😂
it was so awesome hearing about his strong interest in different genres like PUNK, and not just 'punk', but some deep dive, significant/intense picks! I could somewhat relate with my lifelong vinyl collection consisting of similar varieties ... my 'DJ' collection from a large selection of early jungle & breaks hip-hop, & then 'vintage' punk/metal/wave. thanks for the satisfying content ... good stuff.
So true in regards to supporting the artist. Promo's are a good thing if you get them, but always purchase a copy as soon as you can. Yet another great interview, top work.
Absolute brilliant Adam and excellent hearing Mike in good spirits, moments ep one of finest!Still play and love old techno sounds you guys made around 1992-6 when crowds appreciated more and thanks Colin Dale and Colin Favor R.I.P. got you guys music out there on radio in London then enjoy in clubs knowledge, space,Eurobeat 2000.Any chance get Robert Hood,Kenny Larkin on show? Thanks again 👊🏻
It would of been done , had his flight not been delayed in the Summer for a few hours when he came to dj in Berlin. I was ready to rock with him. We will get it in when our paths cross again.
Hey Mike. Strictly Undergeound and The Moments double pack are still so underated. A couple of my favorite Djaxx. My dad passed away early 2024. I felt similar. Just kind of numb and in shock. I feel like I'm finally coming out of it after making sure my mom has been feeling ok through it. It's tough. And like u said....the music always calls.... Btw in your open Adam. Testone, Reload and Advent. Some killer records in back if u
Ocean Pacific? Aka OP. Aka Over-Priced. Haha Adam nice one. We got those at Millers Outpost (which later became Anchor Blue in all the malls). Millers Outpost carried OP and was also where on the west coast you could first pick up most Adidas circa 1972-1982. Old skool ;)
"I was like What's up with these cheese eatin motherfuckers?" HAH haaaAH! Mike Killed me with that line ! Bro...THE best electronic music podcast on the interwebs right now. This shit is GOLD! Long may you continue. You gota get to Leeds in the U.K at some point and hook up with Jez from LFO and his friend Edzy from Unique 3 (who also released a bunch of stuff on Strictly Rhythm)....oh..and also worth tracking down the DJ from the legendary Techno club, The Orbit, Nigel Walker who I believe still lives in Leeds. You'd love the stories and history from The Orbit. (I've said this before....i don't wana be a stuck needle on the record....i'll shut up now. :) )
Gez is definitely someone I really want to sit down with, it's all about timing. We haven't crossed paths in over 10 years :( ...but I am going to make more an effort to travel to do them.
@SonicGroovePodcast Maybe a good suggestion... Contact Simon at Tribe Records Leeds who puts on nights in Leeds and who Nigel worked with. Get a gig and some money in the bank for the trip and kill two birds with one podcast. ;)
if mike was in denver right now, id give him all these old waxtrax records and medusa edits white labels just to push the agenda of getting him into this old industrial music
Not only bad promoters just trying to make money and bringing certain DJs. But even more importantly, those promoters who could be helping bring good music to people. Thats the real crime. Promoting bad djs generally promotes bringing bad music. And thats why festivals are shitty. Promoters continue to be the broken link.
Lot's of complaints in the industry now about low tickets sales at festivals and clubs. Perhaps the result of selling out and watering the scene down with social media made performers and not supporting the artists who make music
@SonicGroovePodcast Low tickets sales is hopefully a sign of people getting more educated about having a better more true enviorment of rave music with better performers. People like us Adam who preach about keeping the purity in what was great about the many facets to the scene is important work. Something we have always thought was important. We only want the next generation to feel and enjoy the scene like it how it started. Anything we can preserve about how it was done and if it still works, it's a great option to do - I think that's worth continuing to preach about and share. Good on u adam
one of the best of all time is Mundo Muzique. www.discogs.com/artist/1585146-Edmundo-Perez Search all his projects. Short discography but records that are an integral part of the history of techno.
These episodes are top notch. Thank you!

Love that tune !
Only have one Dearborn record off Majestic. ( Blue sleeve, track nine one ). Good techno. The few times I've been to the smart bar he seems to be there when I was there. Loving these stories
Another great interview Adam, hoping you've got Hyperactive lined up for one.
Stay tuned! ;)
Really connecting with these interviews Adam. Thanks so much for filling in the gaps of history. Great series. Respect
Thanks for tuning in, I appreciate the comment!

that's great to hear, I'm sure he was good as always.
Inspiring, thnx for that!!
Wow. A true techno legend. Still going strong
Solid👍Seen Mike many times in Chicago. His Dj promo 1 was one of the best mixes I heard, especially side b. Thanks for the interview
First record with my bro's name on it in 1985 www.discogs.com/release/3592640-Death-City-Boyz-Bopsey-Twins
@SonicGroovePodcast Thank you for this, I never new he was on this. 👍

Techno has proven to be timeless music so for me it's important to keep the history of it alive.
another awesome episode

@SonicGroovePodcast is Mad Mike coming up soon or am I dreaming things up?
Loving these!!
Carlos my brother, thanks for peeping them out. I hope all is well!

I discovered Mike’s music when he released Chaotic states! What a tune! It was getting played at every raves in the South of France.
A great EP, through and through!

Awesome episode. Been buying Mr Dearborn's trax since Intense Music and look forward to some new stuff. Ty Adam and Mike ♥️🤟
That OP stuff was really bad. I have a pic or two of me wearing that crap somewhere. LOLz
Info Society was massive in Brooklyn. You'd hear "Running" all of the time coming out of cars, def a Brooklyn sound track of youth in the late 80's
it was so awesome hearing about his strong interest in different genres like PUNK, and not just 'punk', but some deep dive, significant/intense picks! loving all these interviews , keep it up
Thank you! Will do!

Nice interview still enjoy Mike Dearborn's mixes on Cisco Ferreira's online technoclub - true techno legends ❤🙏

I won't see who I have planned. I like the element of surprise! More greatness coming!
Mike’s set at Fantasia 1 at the armory was no joke.
Brilliant episode ❤
Talking of Cisco 👀 he must be in the pipeline?

@SonicGroovePodcast 🙌
Lovely lovely lovely. Very inspiring indeed. I just bought the EP on Bandcamp.
Now that's the spirit! I'm sure Mike will appreciate that :)
killin it with this series

It's never to late to join in the chant, I was late on it by 10 years myself!
