    The colors aren't bad Andrea. You're really good! My mom in law was a seamstress. She still enjoys sewing.....mouth usually just for immediate family. I enjoyed sewing in High School. I won 1st place in a "sew off" in High School. I made black corduroy pants and purple and black plaid shirt! I won a ribbon and 20.00. I still have my ribbon. Thanks for sharing

    Love sewing and I think it is amazing to make these blankets. Wonderful gifts. I go all around the edges and cut off excess fabric so that the edges aren’t bulging. Andrea was a very talented and amazing sewer!

    Thank you so much for taking the time to make an easy to follow video for a beginner sewer.
    I liked how you put the material on your bed, I hadn't thought of doing that.
    I ended up making a blanket and pillow cover for my toddler grandson and a miniature set for his doll. He's obsessed with cars so it was great to be able to make the perfect one.

    A while back I followed your tutorial to make my mom a blanket for Mother’s Day. It was so hard to find a fleece blanket tutorial that’s NOT the tie blankets. Imo those kinda suck lol. Anyways It came out awesome. She uses it every night and nobody is allowed to use it but her lol. My sister kept trying to steal hers because it’s so cozy so I made one for her for Christmas lol. I even made a small one for my dog 😂

    Thank you. This is a true beginner project. I appreciate the way you showed buying the fabric. That was helpful. Also little hints like using a longer stitch for fleece. That explains a problem I had with a baby blanket I made that puckered. Please do more videos with help for those of us just starting on the sewing journey.

    Your father's blanket has so much meaning to it and will not only warm his body, but also his soul! I love the border that you sewed. It looks to be close to an inch from the edge, I believe. The colors look great together....it's a color combination I personally would choose. I do those no sew knotted edge blankets for my 6'7" son as we have a very hard time finding blankets to cover him completely. Making them isn't cheaper, but we get the size he needs! Merry Christmas!

      I have a baby blanket that I had for 47 years since I was born and it seems to be coming undone I would like to sew it back together the only thing I feel like the material is getting stuck is there a certain height or measurement or setting I got to do to make it go through the blanket a little bit better or a different needle I've never seen before I tried it once and I broke the needle

    • @LauraForty
      @LauraForty 7 років тому +2

      I've just begun to sew, and having several folks around me throwing baby showers, I started with baby blankets...and like you, I chose fleece and flannel...my first couple I didn't pre-wash the flannel....so they'll probably look a bit less professional with washing....the first time I attempted to pre-wash some flannel the edges just disintegrated in the washing machine, making a HUGE tangled mess and losing me up to at least an inch and a half of flannel (more in many places) on ALL my edges....so I tried using mesh bags...they still frayed, and were a pain and a half to get dry (it's winter and rainy where I am so hang drying wasn't as easy--and with three baby showers scheduled so closely, I was under the gun) lol! I ended up getting a serger--and I am SO SO SO happy with it! now I can serge the edges, wash to my heart's content in hot water, tossing them into the dryer and get the shrinking over with before using with fleece (which will never shrink) Even if you don't have a serger-- I think you can use a zig zag right up against the edge and get similar results.

    • @emeraldgypsyheart
      @emeraldgypsyheart 7 років тому +1

      Auralae I was thinking of doing that. I had the same tangled mess when I washed some fall flannel... thx for confirming that "finishing" the edges would help.

    They are not as cheap as store blankets, but they are warmer and MUCH more durable! We still use ones I made over 10 years ago, and are usually the first ones my boys grab to cover up with around the house or to bring in the car.

    Hi Andrea. I'm going to start off by saying that I am not trying to be rude, so please don't be offended with what I'm about to say. But when you hand sew the blanket shut, I think you should try the mattress stitch instead of the whip stitch, because the mattress stitch makes a seam on the inside that would match the stitching on the rest of the blanket.

      p.s If anyone is thinking of making a cover for their hot bottles it's often cheaper to buy a fleece blanket than the fabric by the metre. If they are a little thin just double it up! 😀

      I went through the tying phase myself. It was fun and novel, but I don't really like them anymore either. I've done a couple of baby blankets that were kind of a combo. I sewed the two pieces together about 5 inches from the edge and then cut the edges into thick fringe. They had that fringe-y look without the hard, bunchy knots.

    Do you have issues washing these? I find the synthetic materials often smell bad. I use a vinegar rinse and never let them dry naturally which has solved some of the problems but sometimes still get a smell and then back into the washer. The fleece is not as bad as my boys' nylon basketball pants. I almost banned the basketball pants.

      I have a Brother sewing machine. I'm not sure which model. I got it a Walmart several years ago. It was not an expensive model, but it works great and I'm happy with it.

    You didn’t do any stitching to make sure the sides don’t separate?

    I love how thought it and planned this/the colors are. Does your dad watch your videos?

      He watches them sometimes at our house. (He doesn't have internet at his house since mom died.) We show him some of our vlogs. He won't see this unless I show it to him, so we're safe!
