    Team yellow reporting in. I recently picked up the latest HF Hercules 1/2" ultra torque for $190 with a free 5ah battery. It's been a great tool since I got it, and it buzzes off axle nuts without any hesitation. Their impact driver and drill motor have also been working great for me. They were $97 for each kit, coming with a 2ah battery and charger, plus a coupon for a free 2.5ah battery. In total I've spent under $400 and got 3 tools, 5 batteries, and 2 chargers. I use these tools in a heavy industrial construction setting, so I suspect their durability will test the warranty before it expires.

    You mentioned the cost of the Hercules with the 5ah battery and charger, but currently when you purchase the 3/4 impact you get the 5ah battery for free! Instead of adding $79 to the price, that's more like subtracting $79 from the $199 price. I would say BUY THE HERCULES right now! That's a deal that can't be beat!!!!!

      Meh, initial performance is only half the story. What matters to many people is how long it keeps working at the less demanding tasks they throw at it. In other words, only an idiot tries to max out their tools and then calls them crap when they fail. Testing/benchmarks are of course a different story, as it is still great to have that data but when talking about off-brand consumer grade, I still consider many of Harbor Freight's power tools to be sub-par even for their price point. If it costs 30% less but only lasts half as long, is that economy or wasteful? I see them as very rare occasion use tools.

      To be clear the 1/2" version is like a mid torque and we havent tested it before. And $240-290 is A LOT for an amazon sourced tool kit. That said, its battery is unusually good and crosses over to Makita LXT. And it embarrasses any LXT impact currently, so that's pretty cool. They also have a 1 year warranty

    I know people will always continue to joke about Hercules being a Harbor Freight brand and all. But they bash DeWalt, Milwaukee and so on all the time as well. So far I love all of the Hercules tools I've picked up. Most of the time getting a good deal because someone else returned it. Either because it wasn't what they wanted or bought it for a single use purpose and got a refund. I have the little 3" cut-off tool and mainly use a 4Ah battery on it. So far anything involving the need to cut metal it has worked good. I also picked up one of the new Hercules brushless drills a few months ago that was a return and it has a lot of power to it. I also finally got to use my 7-1/4" brushless circular saw and it's amazing how quiet it is. Especially when comparing it to our old corded 15 amp saws that want to blow out your ear drums.

    • @stinkycheese804
      @stinkycheese804 4 місяці тому +1

      You're trying to lump everyone together as "people" when it is opposite, that those who joke about Hercules, are those who tend to gravitate towards one of the major contractor grade brands, are a different group of people.
      If you're getting your money's worth out of Hercules, that's great, but there is sufficient evidence to support that paying more, does tend to have benefits if you choose wisely.

    Just wanted to say thank you for testing these. If harbor freight sees these things, your channel is the reason I bought it, and I am very happy with it. Another person mentioned that it would be better for them to include the 4ah "extreme" battery for free instead of the 5ah "extended" but nevertheless the 5ah took off a bolt that I couldn't get off using any of my other air or cordless wrenches, heck not even a cheater bar. This took it off as easily as unscrewing a ketchup bottle. Mine had a very tight fitting 3/4 anvil also, but I suppose that eliminates any torque losses because of a slight "wobble" from a looser connection.

  • @BigBear--

    Damn...Hercules is a pretty sweet deal, especially considering their new extended brushless tool warranties, and ease of warranty use. I just wish their mid-torque had more oomph. If I needed a high-torque impact, I might strongly consider Hercules. Currently my chunky Makita LXT Mid-Torque is more than enough for the things I use it for.

    Truly appreciate the time and effort you put into your tests! Have you considered some longevity/endurance testing? The performance tests are awesome, however the true value of a tool also includes how long it lasts in practical usage. Would like to see some real life type usage cycles of drills, impact drivers and impact wrenches, etc. Including environmental influences, repeated light, medium and heavy use cycles. Longevity testing would provide valuable information to determine when budget tools are really a value or not. Unfortunately, practical testing would require significant time, effort and creativity. If the practical testing is not an option, maybe you could just provide your opinions based on your experiences with the various tools and brands. Thanks again for all you do to help us make well informed decisions with our tool purchases.

    So what are your thoughts on the DCF961 3/4 monstrosity you made vs the Hercules....I'm in the market for a 3/4 battery impact and currently run mostly dewalt and milwaukee for my battery platforms but have some old rigids and snap ons etc....What would your choice be between those 2? I don't like how the dewalt will look janky from boring out the nose and possibly allow debris into the tool prematurely but I already have alot of dewalt batteries on hand.... on the other hand there's no time like currently to buy into the hercules platform (now that its getting better) and its relatively cheap but i still have to pull out a HF tool on the jobsite on top of the less power and larger investment due to having to grab a few 6amp or a 12amp Hercules battery+charger...I've been trying to debate those 2 when you dropped the dewalt video a month ago and still haven't made a choice just been gettijg by with pneumatic or dewalt dcf900 1/2inch which is dang near a 3/4 itself

    • @TorqueTestChannel
      @TorqueTestChannel  4 місяці тому +2

      Same from what we can tell. But some impact mechanisms are tuned for 1/2" and some are well just sort of tuned for a general good enough and it ends up suiting 3/4" better.

      Isn’t it the same thing? Most of my collection is Mac, but at 53, I’m done buying tool truck priced tools. Most of my tools are Made in USA, but I picked up the Overdrive wrenches to try them out.

      @gwall1789 they appear almost identical hence why I was interested. Despite looking the same I was interested to see if they had any hardness difference heat treatment etc. That would cause a different performance due to one having a higher quality control than the other

      Yeah, I'd like to see use-at-rated-load-until-failure testing, but of course they don't have the time to do that. Unfortunately that is far more what i care about. I rarely have tools fail within the warranty but really don't want to EVER have to replace them, the exception being NiCd based cordless just to move to Li-Ion, but then I have started investing in Ryobi and theirs are backwards compatible so...

    Do you think the Dewhat 1/2 would be good to use with flexvolt 9.0 batteries for taking off lug nuts ???

    • @TorqueTestChannel

      The DCF900 yeah, anything lower I'd stick with a smaller battery

      The DCF900 works fine taking off truck/bus lug nuts without the 9.0 Flexvolt. We have 3 of them. We use 6.0XR, 5.0 PowerStack and 6.0 FlexVolt batteries. They all work great.

    I'm really curious about these Harbor Freight 3/4 and 1 '' air impacts. For such a (relatively) cheap price is it worth throwing in the toolbox of a non-heavy duty mechanic's arsenal? And could it even run off a standard shop air hose with say a 55-gallon air compressor. And if you can't keep up a sustained 150 or even 100 psi, how much loss is there VS a half inch. Is there a point where the half inch comes out ahead in a battle of limited line pressure?
    Would love to see some of this tested.

    Now I want to buy those EWORK batteries for my Makita tools but they probably have a terrible BMS and will not last long, and the risk of explosion is significantly higher. But since they won't charge on the Makita charger maybe they have a proprietary BMS that is actually good.
