  • In this video, I share the gear I bring to a wedding, minimalist style. Having this setup helps me be creative, efficient, and I can quickly move around without having to carry extra gear. Here, I lay out the cameras I use (Sony a9II) and my lenses (Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM & Sony 85mm f/1.4 GM). I also talk about some of the lighting gear that I use. Glad it was helpful and thanks again for checking it out. what system do you use, sony as well?

      @@movetomirrorless Yes, A7siii. I moved from Panasonic because Sony showed they actually listen to their customers by revamping the menus, making the end-dongles noise-free, giving us 4k60p with no crop, better colors, 10bit internal etc. The whole list of things users had been asking for. Whereas, Panasonic sticks with DFD AF which kept breaking my heart. Let's not even discuss Canon which displays OPEN CONTEMPT for their user base by releasing R5 with misaligned sensors and overheating, together with disabling features.
      I needed a system that I could envision a future with without having to switch systems frequently and lose money...
      Sony showed they were eligible... 'Nuff said.

      @@cogmission1 yeah, I totally agree. I hope sony keeps listening. and keeps improving. I switched to sony from canon around 2013. they still have their issues here and there, but but overall, I think I made the right decision.

      @@movetomirrorless Yup, bouncing from system to system can get very costly. I'll stick with Sony if they keep prioritizing their customers - and past then if they fail and nobody shows they are willing to do better.
      Also, Sony makes their own silicon and all their parts (like Apple), so they're in a unique position to innovate.
      As you can see, I've put some thought into your question... :-)

    With two prime lenses like the 24mm and the 85mm you can cover 90% to 95% or more of all types of photography :) A very good choice !

    Very nice vieo and setup! I very often go with the 1635GM and 85mm - never felt any restrictions with that setup and you can toss in a few catchy 16mm extra wide shots ;-)

    • @movetomirrorless
      @movetomirrorless  3 роки тому

      yes, that's true, those super wide shots can come in handy at times. I just love the look of f/1.4 up close on portraits with the 35mm.

      @@movetomirrorless I'm totally in with 35/85mm - that's how I startet, a manual Minolta 35/2.8 and 85/2 on a 1st gen Sony mirrorles :-) But I am not brave enough to do a paid job with just 35/85 - at least add the 20mm and maybe somthing for close focus. I'm still with the Zeiss 35/1.4, looking forward to test the new 35GM.

    I guess I would use a 24-70mm and the 85mm on a second body

    • @movetomirrorless
      @movetomirrorless  2 роки тому

      that's a good combo too. I'd probably go 24-70, then 50mm 1.2 as my low light lens.

    Thank you, question what is that camera grip that you use? I like that it does not cover the inside of the hand grip.

      It's the leather half-case from Gariz. it's the one for the a9ii, which also fits the a7Siii and the a7Riv.

    Great video. That’s the combo I use for full weddings 😛 how is the iso and dynamic range on the A9ii compared to the A9 in your opinion? Thanks 🤙

    • @movetomirrorless
      @movetomirrorless  3 роки тому +2

      thanks for checking it out Chris. It's become my go-to Combo for all my weddings as well, to be honest. I used to shoot with the 24, 35, and the 85 before, but I've been leaving the 35 out more and more throughout the last year, and now, it's been mostly 24/85. About the difference between the a9 and a9ii, it's seems to my eyes that there's no difference in the files. except now you can shoot uncompressed RAW, but I've not used that at all.

      @@movetomirrorless thanks for replying. The led lights have interested me. I might have to invest. Would they be any good for dance floor and speeches?

    • @movetomirrorless
      @movetomirrorless  3 роки тому +1

      @@chris-lloyd the LEDs are good enough for speeches. For dance floor shots, they only have enough power for the slower action. if you want to stop the motion for the faster dancing, I suggest using them only as rim lights, then having a smaller speed light on top of the camera. I actually am working on a video to explain that setup.

    What kind of lens hood is that on your 85 GM?

    • @movetomirrorless

      its a metal hood from JJC. you can get it on amazon

    I’m looking for a harness for my two Sony’s but I use peak design plates and anchors. Do you know if I can use those somehow with the moneymaker?

    • @movetomirrorless
      @movetomirrorless  3 роки тому +1

      Correct me if I’m mistaken (because I’ve never used peak design) I think peak design is compatible with arca Swiss no? If they are then you can use the arca type qr mount with the flip out notch which will anchor nicely on the money maker harness. It’s the one I showed on my video above.

    • @movetomirrorless

      I got this one from amazon. it's a screw on metal hood. makes the profile a lot shorter than the regular hood that came with the lens which broke :(. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072P19GHC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Hey, how do you find the focus speed and noise on the 85 gm? Is it as slow and loud as people say? Thanks man

    • @movetomirrorless
      @movetomirrorless  3 роки тому

      hey Chris! The 85 GM is probably the noisiest and slowest focusing lens I have. I came from Canon a while back and shot with the 85 1.2 L, which was suuuuper slow and noisy too. so the 85 GM is a lot faster than that, but still the slowest of my lenses currently. also, the Zeiss 35 1.4 is pretty noisy too. it's good with focusing. but I CANNOT wait for the 35 GM.
