I have a 2014 ctx700n. I use it mostly for riding country backroads where the top speed is 60 miles per hour. I get fuel mileage in the upper 70 mpg range - as good as my wife's Honda rebel. Love the bike. I may need to look into the Michelin tires.
May I add to the "messy" list 1. The rear wheel, such a pain to take on an off. 2. The air filter and the valve checks are almost impossible to do. 3. The suspension.
I have the same bike, same year and agree with your review 100%, very solid and dependable ride. I came from an older shaft driven CX500 and hate the chain too. I also added the center stand as it makes oiling the chain a lot easier, it should have been included with this bike from new or at least been made available from dealers in the USA. Michelin tires, absolutely the best, no doubt about it!
Tip: You do not need to oil the chains that often on modern bikes with modern chains. Most people oil them too much based on the oil requirements of chains from decades ago. Just a light coat every 1K miles or so.
The chain is very easy to get to. There is no shock or saddle bag in the way. Most chain drive cruisers, yes I had a hardly and it was a chain drive, I'm that old, are a Pita to get to. Chain maintance use to be the norm and chains and lubes have greatly improved. Harley riders will spend more time cleaning their bike than riding. I don't think 15 min to clean and lube is that big a deal. Second, your fork tubes are pitted and are going needed to be replaced. That leakage wouldn't get past inspection in my state. You must be riding in a harsh environment or keeping it outside. You would be better off installing gaitors on it. Other than that very informative video. I like the footboards and the spacers. I wondered why they made the seat so low then made the foot pegs and handlebars so far away. Anyone who would buy it with short legs would have a hard time reaching those.
Reliability, maintenance cost, maintenance time are bigger factors than power loss. Shaft drive is superior for tour/cruse bike, quieter smoother, less maintenance, cheaper to maintain yourself.
It's a shame Cee Bailey no longer makes these windscreens. These are great bikes, overall. Floorboards are a great addition, as is the center stand. Worth noting that T-Rex Racing now makes a stand specifically designed for the CTX700.
My advice - you might be over lubricating that chain. If you have sealed chain with o-rings do the light coat every 1000 miles. Less is more. You chain is attracting more grid making with oil abrasive pulp. I lube chain twice a year and chain lasts me 30k
I am interested in buying this bike but I am a little worried. If you don't have serious mechanical problems. My question is if it is a good option...to buy.....? Thanks for your time
For as little as you ride even for an average rider you do not need to lube the chain every week. You only need to do so when you’re performing oil changes every 5-8k miles.
The CTX deserved the same mechanics as the NC750x and removed the damn chain. The Vulcan 650 provides shade. Honda always takes a long time to listen to their customers. Pity.
still looking for a windshield with brackets for side view mirrors like the R25 on the Nmax. So much nicer to have the mirrors out front for 5 deg ez viewing.
Hoe many chains did you go through ? Also other wear items like brake pads, clutch? How often did you check the valve clearances? Thanks in advance.. Great review.!!
what about your valve adjustment at 8100 and checks every 12 to 15000 miles after that what has been the cost on that? thanks good video lots of needed information any other advice mine now has 5100 miles on it

Center stand part # 08M70-MGS-J10 Japanese + Stopper(not sure stopper part #) fits CTX700, NC700S and NC700X I bought it new from United States private party on Ebay. Parts included in purchase were: center stand, 2 springs and a stopper.
@@tbillyjoeroth The Japanese model of the CTX700 includes the stand. We North Americans are being nickled and dimed for the parts that should have been on it from day one.
It's been too long I don't have the part numbers any longer but look online at the blogs the information is there, that's how I originally found the part numbers through Honda CTX700 blogs. Good luck!
Go on ebay.com, seacrh 2014-2018 CTX 700 Center stands. You will find a couple of suppliers: T-Rex in Texas, dirtbike-boy in china. Prices are all over the map. I got the Chinese one, ($132.99) delivered free, but took just over a month (it's winter, I am patient) The chinese one is identical to the German model from www.hepco-becker.de but is literally half the price. BTW: when I got the Chinese model, it had the exact same instructions and SKU as the hepco. The T-Rex model is an in house version which uses two springs on the left side, while the China / hepco model uses one spring on each side. Easy enough to install, you can find installation videos on this site.
Buffeting is the huge issue this bikes. Need add aftermarket windshield, sides guards, etc to make it a smoother ride at high speeds. Below 60mph it's comfy all day
Bit late to the party, but I use this for highway commuting and while I agree with the buffeting, with the windshield and side guards it's quite a comfy ride. Acceleration is fairly sluggish north of 70mph, but I can cruise at 80-85 without revving to high. Only issue is trying to get down behind the wind can be a bit rough on the lower back, given how far forward the foot pegs are.
@@scribeslendy595 thank you!! I had a can am, sold that and ended up grabbing a Harley . Electra glide, no wind, do 80 comfortably. Appreciate the response! Ride safe
It has plenty of power, more than enough I've had it to 95mph with a group of Harley's and could have easily gone faster. I've owned around 50 motorcycles this one has THE best all around user-friendly engine.

Where can I get some foot pedals for my 2014 CTX700 I have around 1,600 miles as of today.

IDK if I'll ever get used to chain maintenance, and how difficult it is to change the plugs and air filter. I cut my teeth on Sporters.
The air filter takes 90 minutes pulling several plastic panels, I never changed the plugs in 68k miles.
The CTX deserved the same mechanics as the NC750x and removed the damn chain. The Vulcan 650 provides shade. Honda always takes a long time to listen to their customers. Pity.

QUESTION I'm having difficulty finding engine guards. Any hints? Have you seen anything?
Check ebay!
Trex racing makes engine and baggage guards that work well.
How did it get rusted out so fast? It's barely even six years old...
Sitting out in the rain, riding in the rain, never garage kept.
No kidding? That's not bad at all for six years outside, then. The extensive plastics must help a lot with how well it preserves...
It doesn't come with a center stand? wtf?
@ Marc B How tall are you? I'm worried if it will fit me at 6'1
My inseam is 32 inches, I think that's the make or break fit zone.
I am 5' 3", and I can plant my feet properly. You, as 6 footer should have no problems whatsoever. I'm surprised you asked.

Where to buy that Windshield?
I bought it on Ebay.
I like the idea behind this bike but having to oil a chain every week makes me not want this thing at all.
You only have to do that if you're exceeding 600 miles/1,000km per week according to the owners manual.
All that rust! Get some CLP on that thing!
This is my work horse not a babied classic I don't care about surface rust, I'll probably get a new bike within 6 months.
