It's really a crazy world. I just turned 30, and my parents talked about how they were trying to have all electric cars when I was a little kid. And now we do have them, but why are we trying to kick out what actually works before we get electric working right? As a business owner who works on nothing but fossil fuel powered engines, I'll be happy to get with the times, but when it's alittle extra hot out and the government tells you to turn down the A/C because the grid is overwhelmed, how the hell are we going to power an entire country of electric vehicles without taking, idk 20 years to COMPLETELY rebuild or rethink our energy creation system? Anyways....I agree with ya haha

Few things going on here and you can actually look it up for yourself.
      1. The government doest care about you. It only cares about its own pockets. Greatest words to fear are "im from the government and im here to help
      2. Battery production is in China and all mines are owned by china.
      3. Many politicians have stocks in these companies for batteries.
      4. The government doesn't want you to have anything and to only be dependent upon them.
      5. Businesses refuse to make anything that will last. They loose business in sales. JD is a prime example. They raised the cost of parts to the point its cheaper to buy new than it is to get parts.
Overall, we don't have the infrastructure period. It's all planned and forced upon us to cripple everyone. Its sickening to he honest. I don't mind solar on buildings. Thays a different topic at hand. However, Gates buying tons of land under many different companies and popping up solar farms is bad. Especially after the latest crops were half destoryed by order or fines imposed on farmers.

EV Trucks lose 70% of their range while loaded/towing. Of the remaining 30% left you can cut that in half in cold weather. You're looking at honestly about a 35 mile range in cold weather....on flat land, in the hills its game over. Then, if you're lucky, you can find a charging station and wait an hour for it to recharge. To say they aren't ready for primetime is an understatement.
There is no way with current tech to make them even close to commercially viable. It will require major advancements in battery tech, like decades from now. A 1000% increase minimum to even enter the conversation. And if you know how long it takes engineers to even get a 20% increase on anything you can do the math on the fate of the commercial EV truck. RIP.

I feel ya, it's the same deal in NY. They complain and complain about ICE and diesel, but I don't think all the heavy equipment and plow trucks digging out the state from massive lake effect snow or plowing trucking routes up by the Canadian border in negative 30-degree weather, or the logging trucks driving across the Adirondacks, are going to be magically replaced all of a sudden. So much of the state is countryside, forests and rolling hills with very little infrastructure. Lots of small towns with dirt roads, and only well water and some don't even have reliable cell service yet. Most folks outside of the cities live off of farming, trucking, logging, mining, and industries of those likes. A whole different planet compared to places like Albany or Rochester, and a whole different universe than NYC. Pisses me off cause so much of the state is beautiful countryside with old school, down to earth people leading simple lives, but they get the will of those 120 miles away, living in a different world with different values, imposed on them. I read an article about the state bullying a rural school district saying they had to replace their school buses with electric buses. The district couldn't afford them and didn't have the infrastructure for them and the money the state was willing to give them was next to nothing considering the total cost it would be. All government bull$hit. If you want to buy electric, you should be free to buy electric. But if someone wants to keep the ICE vehicles or buy an ICE, they should be free to do so. There's no liberty anymore.

They live in their own special world, where they can't even comprehend what it's like for working class people that make the country go. They just react to everything by emotion and what sounds good on paper without considering all the repercussions. Same reason they think you don't need a gun, because who would ever need to protect themselves when you live in a private gated community with security like they do.

California needs more generation, period. Solar and BS wind turbines don't cut it. Solar takes up a massive footprint to generate any decent amount of megawatts. Natural gas generators are very clean, they have catalyst systems and exhaust scrubbers and their footprint is a fraction of what solar is to produce more megawatts. Hell even more hydroelectric would be awesome, that's truly the best way to generate electricity.

I understand completely what you're saying. When I was working, I would go through a rig every three years or so . I would buy a new van and drive it till it hit about 60k and then trade it in for a new one. Not only did it keep me dependable, but as you said, I didn't have to do major work on the vehicle, just regular maintenance. Of course, I was claiming mileage and ware and tare depreciation on the vehicle, but I always kept up on it and kept maintenance records. 60k or just before that seems to be the magic number for trade in because dealerships want low mileage late model vehicles with maintenance records to put out on their used car section of their lot . I had a good relationship with the dealer I went to and usually got a pretty good deal as a return customer. I always bought and never leased and paid it off in three years, so I would get six months to a year of payment less driving out of the vehicle. There's something about driving a new vehicle that puts you a notch above the rest of the crew, and if you have a smart employer, he realizes your effort because it benefits him too .

What about all those precious metals in the catalytic converter, which are mined in other countries and shipped over by container ship ships, which burn thousands of gallons of fuel a lot dirtier than our low-sulfur diesel. Then the fuel mileage of these newer trucks, compared to my old 12 valve, the old truck will generally beat my 21 6.7 truck. BUUUUT.... for the solar, California is going from NEM 2 (Net Electric Metering-for those wondering, look up how it works) where, as a customer you get around $.30 KWH for your power generation..... to the new NEM 3 where you get $.03 KWH for the power you generate...... Sam, your timing was spot on, as those of us who have a permitted system under the NEM2 'contract' will still get the $.30kwh for the next 10 years, then we get the new lower rate...Yay, go green!!!!! ........ The politicians talk all big about wanting "Green Energy", but now they cave to the lobbyists of "big energy" to F-over the customers...... so after July, people who have solar installed, it's going to end up an expense for very little gain. For those of you who can DIY, you can find solar distributors and install the system yourself, with only an electrician needed for the final connections.....most of the components are plug and play, we bought ours from "Unbound Solar" in Oregon for about 1/5 the cost of a professionally installed system. final rant: about the push to battery powered cars, there's only so much of the highly toxic rare earth ingredients available to make the battery packs, and they're mined in countries that have little to no care "for the environment". They're making this big push, and the technology is kinda there, but the supply chain is going to be the achilles heel. Until we have a environmentally friendly way to make a battery pack out of common ingredients, the whole system is not really viable.

I've watched the emissions trajectory from the 1970s to now, carbon canisters and air pumps to sophisticated computer controlled systems, DEF, DPF, etc. Over the decades, manufacturers have spent untold hundreds of billions of dollars to meet every tier of emissions. The air in cities has vastly improved, but the equipment and trucks have gotten to the point where they're unreliable and expensive to own and maintain, disposable once the warranty is up. And now that the tech has matured and can be fine tuned to improve the weak points, the ivory tower says, "Never mind, junk 'em all, we're going full electric, and it's gotta happen in 10 years, not 50".

The problem is not that the motors can’t make the power, because they absolutely can. The problem is that battery technology cannot meet the demands of moving heavy trucks and towing heavy loads. There is a new company in Canada, called Edison Motors making diesel electric hybrids. Using a much smaller diesel generator to recharge the batteries and the only thing actually connected to the driveline is the batteries and electric motors. It is MUCH more efficient than a diesel engine connected straight to the driveline AND it can go farther and tow more than a full electric truck. This is exactly the in between step while batteries catch up. This type of arrangement is what moves most trains nowadays and for the last 90+ years.

Just 1,943 zero emission medium and heavy duty vehicles are on the state's roads, and nearly all of them are buses. About 300 are zero-emission commercial trucks, and less than 90 are electric semi-trucks, as of october 2022
