    My wireless microphone receiver has gain knobs for each of the 4 microphones. I also use xlr cords to connect each mic into its own channel on my audio mixer. If I’m connecting Mic 1 to channel 1 on my mixer, where do I set volume of Mic 1 on the receiver and the gain & channel volume on channel 1 of mixer mixer?

    Hello Kettner, Thank you for the video. I have the exact Shure ULXP4 receiver. I would like to hook it up to the BMB DX333 G2 Karaoke Power Mixer. So far, I connected them together using the 1/4" both end straight from the Receiver to my Karokee Mixer. However, there is a "hissing" sound as soon as I turn on the Microphone. Today, I looked the back of the ULXP4, I noticed there are 2 ports: the 1/4" AUX/High Z output and the 3 pin XLR Balance Low Z Mic/Line output. I wonder if using the 3 pin XLR Balance Low Z Mic/Line output to connect to my BMB Mixer would help vs. the hissing sound? My BMB only have 1/4 MIC in. Could you please help to guide me beside the current way of connecting the 1/4" cable from the ULXP4 receiver to my 1/4 Mic in Mixer, can I use the 3 pin XLR Balance Low Z Mic/Line output instead? If I use this port, then, I will need the 3 pin XLR cable to 1/4in. But, there are 2 different kinds for this cable: balanced vs. unbalance. Which one should I use? Thank you so much for your guidance. Best Regards,
    Duc

    • @Peregrine101
      @Peregrine101 Рік тому

      Phantom power is used by microphones that need power to magnetize an element in the microphone to pick up sound. The microphones that are used as wireless microphones are dynamic microphones and they don't need the phantom power. So if your mixer or audio interface can provide phantom power you don't need it in this situation. AFAIK It won't hurt immediately if phantom power is left on by accident, but that is for somebody who knows this situation better to answer. I wouldn't be surprised if the quality of the microphone is involved somehow.

    How do digital wireless mics compare to these?

    • @kettnercreative
      @kettnercreative  4 роки тому +1

      Good question, there are a lot of variables.
      In general, digital wireless systems tend to have "better" audio as far as dynamic response and frequency response. However, just like everything else that's digital (HDMI, SDI, Etc.), it's either on or off. For low end wireless systems, this is extremely noticeable with big dropouts even when your transmitter and receiver are 15' apart.
      Medium to high end analog wireless systems have been designed in such a way that the audio section is actually quite good and comparable to high end digital systems(low latency, good dynamic response), especially if you're using it for speech which requires far less dynamic range and range of frequencies.
      Hope this helps,
