    I love it. People need to ask their vets these important questions instead of blindly accepting their recommendations and prescriptions.

    Right before I found RMF, my vet told me that "Hi**'s Science Diet is the best chance your dog has" at surviving CKD. 🙄 I haven't fed a single bite of kibble in two years, and no medication, and she's thriving on a species appropriate diet -- NORMAL LEVELS AND SYMPTOM FREE.

    It is so nice to see someone telling the truth about these foods! My Vet wanted to put my Malinois girl on prescription food 6 years ago after she had bladder stones removed, I said no and put her on a raw diet with supplements and she has never had another problem with stones since.

    My friend is a vet tech and was treated to a week in Vegas by Hills to learn about veterinary diets. This was a while ago and it really made me look into dog food. I now do home cooked.

      @@itsjavaman well, I would have to ask them why. As a vet, they see lots of struvite and calcium oxalate stones in cats. If they’ve been practicing awhile they have seen the results of successful disillusion using CD and now the CD Stress us even. Since it helps with anxiety. They could, if they chose to, to look at studies, even the very first One year FIC study done and the amazing results. And if they ever wanted, they could call Hills and speak with a board certified nutritionist about your cats specific blood and urine numbers for free. Or they could choose their own philosophy and do what they feel is best. And obviously you’ll trust them. And that’s fine. After all we are all trying to do what’s best for the animals we live. These days with the internet it is hard to know who to trust. I hope your furry friend lives to be 20 plus!

    That cannot be Eli. Lol If it is, did he roll in a Lavender plant before filming?🤣🤣 We only see a holistic vet, but prior to that we "had" a traditional vet. He wrote a prescription for some Royal Canin garbage and the first ingredient was Corn Starch. I never returned. That day we began raw feeding, found a holistic vet and never looked back.

    We feed our Boston Urinary So from Royal Canin. We were told this is the only food to feed her after surgery for bladder stones and have done so for many years. Its over $100 a bag that usually lasts 1 month. Our current vet CAN NOT answer my feeding questions. We pay extremely high service fees to get no information except read the directions. "some" vets are no absolutely NOTHING about the food they carry. They have to read the label too but really no nothing about the ingredients. The dog food suppliers/reps are certainly happy to make the sale. Well, its time to start doing our own research and educating ourselves.

      I was a vet rep for 34 years with therapeutic diets. SO is very high in sodium to dilute the urine. Usually works well. Not healthy for cats but there are no studies that high sodium is detrimental to dogs, though it could be. Hills Prescription Diet CD Multicare is another diet you can use. It restricts the minerals your digs stones were made of and maintains a specific urine pH to prohibit stone formation. I’m sorry but now with that pup you don’t have the luxury of using these fad diets with glamour ingredients! You’ll be doing surgery again! Best of luck!

That is the reason why they sacred dog guardians about Fresh Raw Food ..off course they do not want to loose $$$

    I was given Hills Thyroid Care kibble when my cat couldn’t tolerate thyroid meds. I’m well aware of the junk in Hills food and know that it is a good source of income for vets, and have always refused it. This time, since all my “excellent quality “ food had too much iodine in it, I succumbed. Within twelve hours my cat went from hyperthyroid to hypothyroid. He ate the food because it was “something new,” but when I called my vet ( a very good one who usually finds better ways of solving problems), he immediately told me to add back in a little of my cat’s regular food and he would order transdermal medication so that it was absorbed into the bloodstream and didn’t go through the stomach. It hasn’t arrived yet ( medication has to be compounded at a specialty pharmacy), but the vet told me to bring back the bag of food for a refund and to feed the cat his regular food, but keep an eye on him since he’s not back on meds.
    I read the ingredients after watching this video ( something I always do, but I had just lost my beloved dog to Addison’s disease two weeks earlier and just wanted my cat to get well, so I wasn’t being my best self) and saw there was absolutely no meat in this food! We all know cats are carnivores and need meat! The only “meat product” was chicken fat, third down on the list! All it has is corn gluten meal, whole grain corn, cellulose and egg product. The rest are all additives. No pet would survive on this!
    All of your emails are so informative and have enlightened me on many aspects of my elderly pets care. I’ve always researched and pushed back with vets who aren’t half as knowledgeable as I am on some issues, but you have definitely made me an even better advocate!
    And I’ve trusted your supplements completely,
    and truly believe they gave my dog extra time and quality of life till the end!
    Thank you, Dana!💜🐾

    So, so, true; lost one dog four years ago to a prescribed diet. Actually thousands of dogs across the US died from an overdose of vitamins because the manufacturer (Hills) had not mixed the food properly and some dogs then received way too much and she basically bled out in four days. I make my own dog food now from store purchased meats and greens....the same as I eat!

    Do you have a recipe for a low-protein diet to protect the kidneys? My dog, 6 lbs, is showing the early signs of kidney malfunction and trying to prevent kidney disease. Currently, she is having a kidney prescription diet and the test is coming back to show a normal level of kidney function after being on it for a while. I would love to cook something healthier. Would the bladder stone that is able to be dissolved be ok to feed ie.. Hills S/D. To dissolve the stones if it is the right kind of stone. As with cats the extra minerals in homemade broth can form these stones. So a short time on the food would dissolve the stones?

      Don’t give your dog undiluted ACV. Always mix it into her water or food. Give the following daily amount depending on the size of your dog:
      1 tsp for dogs up to 15 lbs
      2 tsp for dogs 16 to 35 lbs
      1 tbsp for dogs 36 to 84 lbs

    I am so impressed with you. My dog is an 8 yr old German Shepherd. She has been having loose stools for about 6 mths. After hundreds of dollars of lab work I was told I need to put her her a prescription food prescribed by her vet. My first question was could this not be caused from the meds she is taking that you prescribed for arthritis. Previcox and gabapentin. I didn’t think it would be the gabapentin, but felt like it could be the previcox. I have had her in and off cooked sweet potatoes and chicken , organic pumpkin for the last few months . It would check a little , but once I would start her back on the med and the Hills sensitive skin and stomach it would start again. Oh and by the way she had already been to the vet that suggested the Hills. By looking at the bag it looked like garbage to me. I did though as she advised try it and the Purina. Nothing has helped. Now I have a prescription waiting to pick up another food. I have spent a lot of time researching feeding my dog. I wish I could afford to feed raw or at least see how her GI system would do with it. It’s just the two of us. I’m 65 and live on a very fixed income. My dog is my best friend. I do the best I can for her, but am totally at my Witt’s end with all these vets that honestly don’t care. Just want to push a product. I’m sure these companies helped pay their way through school. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thanks again for reinforcing what I already believe. Your lab is beautiful!

    What about prescription food that say they reduce phosphorous and magnesium levels for which is needed to prevent calcium oxalate stones? Do these help prevent co stones?

    • @PetFoodPuzzleGuy
      @PetFoodPuzzleGuy Рік тому

      Yes! Absolutely! I was a vet rep for 34 years and know these diets well! Look at the actual calcium and phosphorus levels! Funny how the fad diets with all those wonderful looking ingredients are so high in minerals! It’s the very crap like bone, hair, hoof etc driving those numbers up but vets like this don’t understand that. It’s a shame!

  • @alesanchez87
    @alesanchez87 Місяць тому

    Sounds logical, and yet the veterinaries that work at developing diets are the kind that keep on studying veterinary nutrition, further than just a single course, and have to approve a board test. Now, what matters at diets are the nutrients, rather than just the ingredients. The therapeutic benefits come from the balance of nutrients, not necessarily from the ingredients panel. You're a nice person, and I'm sure a well intended one. And I'm sure you take excellent care of your animal companions. But please, don't be a vector of disinformation. Most people simply will rant against dog food just for the sake of being anti systemic or thinking they actually are doing better by feeding what would be awesome for humans.

  • @Michael-yi4mc

    Perhaps you should try looking at the nutrients provided, to manage a condition like renal diseases a food with glamorous ingredients which are harming those kidneys. Maybe then you would at least begin to understand nutrition is delivering nutrients, not fancy ingredients.

    • @RipJewels

    • @song8777

      The renal diets contain less protein, phosphorous, and salt, not additional nutrients. Unfortunately, many pets cannot survive on the reduced amount of protein.
