Wow…this really is a beautiful seiko. If it had a bracelet, my wife would be upset with me. I know I could get an aftermarket that would work…but at the price I want a bracelet.
I know, right? Even if you end up wearing it on the straps 90% of the time, it's nice to have the bracelet. And you'll be hard-pressed to find a bracelet with the same steel composition/colour tone/finishing.
Good review. I would highly recommend some zoom framing though. It'd be nice if while you talked, the watch filled the screen rather than at arms length. Peace.
SLA055 and SLA057 is my Holy Grail. I prefer these two models over the Marine Master 300M as they are much smaller and wearable on my small wrist and the caseback makes it serviceable as opposed to the monocoque in MM300. My Watch collection is valued at $6000USD and am seriously considering selling all of them and get this SLA057, SEIKO TUNA QUARTZ and I will certainly keep my FLEIGHTMASTER SNH411 tho. Thanks Chris for this amazing video. Congrats on your growing channel. Cheers!
I like this one. But ,at around $4500, can only admire from a distance. I'll wait for a lesser expensive version with the 6R35. Curious why isn't this under the Prospex LX line? I mean it's at that same quality level and price range.
Seiko has a knack of doing expensive limited editions on their general line. I don’t know whether this is a masterclass in marketing. As for this watch… it really is expensive.
@@kostar500 must really like this particular design and movement to buy one. yeah. I don't think I'll get one, but, for less $$ closer to $4k, I think I'd rather get say the Tudor Pelagos FXD. Even a standard BB58 would do u better for less.
@@khronokraze Agreed. Any potential buyer should also buy this watch after carefully reviewing it… as the main flaw (chapter ring misalignment would spoil your day(s))
Waiting on the SEIKO Chrono solar white dial from Exquisite Timepieces. Should have been here by now but it's the popular white dial version and delivery has been slow to the AD as I understand it from other dealers. Good experience with them so far. :)
I love some of the small details.. the horizontal ridges on the indices (gorgeous!), that amazing handset, the crisp rugged bezel knurling, of course the tone and lustre of the steel.... this is truly a beautiful watch! (I'm so smitten that I just bought an SPB207 case that I'm gonna try to mod to resemble this somewhat!)
Woahh sheesh... I just checked the price here in Australia and it's $7250AUD (about $5250USD right now)... that's a jump of more than $600USD! What did we ever do to deserve that? 😭😭
hey chris - a couple of times you stated quite confidently that 'ever brilliant' steel is 904L - I've found nothing on line to indicate thats true. have you got a source?
$4600!? What is Seiko smoking!? There are so many superior watches at the $4000-$5000 price range. This shouldn’t be more than $2000- $3000 at the very most!
nice to see Seiko finally offering some more reasonably sized, higher end MM300 alternatives. nice dial(s), hands, and case finishing... and that's about it. the price is insultingly obscene considering you're not getting a bracelet, and neither a high beat movement that the original, which this is "reinterpreting", had. also, the movement in there is not "based on GS 9S", it's a rumour that has been perpetuated for the past 20 years just because it happens to be assembled on the same assembly line. it also was a "high end" movement 20 years ago, but in this age when you can get free sprung balance bridge silicon hairspring 70hr COSC (or better) movements for quite a bit less money, Seiko's 8L35 is just adding insult to injury (at least it will be easier to regulate compared to the MM300) and speaking of things needing confirmation, since when is "everbrilliant steel" == 904L? not that 904L is anything special (it's the very opposite of special), but still... also i'm assuming this still has Seiko's godawful coating that "protects" the usual soft cheese HRC watch steels (metalurgically, seiko here unfortunately isn't the minority, far from it) from intense stares rather than just casual glances, and can't really be refinished (Citizen eats them alive with their Duratec, not to mention some german manufacturers who actually harden their steels! i know, what a novel concept!)
@@canadianwatchmonkey3992 "honestly not that much nicer then (sic) a $300 SKX"... that would be a comparison to the SKX. It's all good, my friend. I disagree with you on this watch's value.
It's not 904L steel, it's actually Seiko's proprietary Ever-brilliant steel.
Beautiful Seiko diver with Grad Seiko finishing!
Suddenly i start liking seiko watches so abruptly..

To be honest though you just know that the Seiko OEM bracelet would be extremely disappointing. I’m really interested in this watch I must say.

I was thinking the same
Nice to see Seiko is following along with bringing down the case sizes. I just picked up the baby Tuna and love it!
Now just make it 40mm
Good to see the comparison with your SBDC.
This 055 is a goal for me.
Thank you Chris.

It is not 904L steel. Where did you get that from??
Really nice... But at that price point I would really wish they would instead give their spring drive movements just like the LX series.
Beautiful watch, great review. Dive watches other than rolex look way better with a rubber strap. The contrast helps one focus on the dial.
Beautiful timepiece

I’ve been waiting 7 months already.
Black dial would have been a chef's kiss.
Lovely high-end Seiko but I would rather get the Seiko LX spring drive
Which I have. Plus great video
I was wondering if the bezel was the same size as the case or smaller? Great that Seiko is down sizing some of its dive watches.

So with this going for around 30% below sticker does it make it worth while?

Very nice watch i am looking to buy a higher end divers watch from Seiko i have two Seiko samurai's black and orange as well as the SKX ! Good review
Gorgeous watch 😍
It's a nice watch but at that price point I rather get LX line.
Awesome Watch Mr, as expected from Seiko, great review, thank you for sharing...great 2022 for all.
If anyone does know who a UK distributor is for this piece I would love to find out. That dial and the blue bezel numbers are a dream.
I had good service from Chisholm Hunter, Berry Jewellers and AMJ watches in the UK.
@@francispace9985 Berry’s is quite close to me, thanks for the recommend.
Beautiful but not worth $4600
Just curious, what do you think it's worth?
I guess you dont understand quality…

Hey Merry Christmas thank you very much

Merry Christmas, Happy holidays Chris
Seiko claimed their ever brilliant steel is even better than 904L steel.
Sir m looking watch with stainless steel chain watch with sapphire glass and eco drive or automatic watch 300 euro
Bezel action ?
handsome peice
Oooops, Chris, not a word about bezel alignment?
Reminds me more of a recent Oris Aquis.
And less than a classic Seiko Diver's
A 4000$ prospex lol man i don't get Seiko's marketing nowadays.
How Much ? 4600 Us ? I don't wanna buy the shop
$4600? The 8L adds 1.5K? If they lower it to low 4's - mid 3's, It's a deal!
Grand seiko with same caliber and 316L steel cost at least $7k retail.
Apparently you didn’t do the math right
Has it got lume, it's a fricking dive watch
I am impressed but not with that price!! I ll stick with my SLA021! Thanks
I am just not a fan of the aesthetic of this watch therefore if you guys don't buy one, please know you have my support.
Put a tropic rubber on my SPB185 trying to keep me from buying this.
You didn’t rotate the bezel!
Is it misaligned? It’s fake if it’s not misaligned.
If theres no X on the dial it would be perfect
Fantastic watch, but this price....

I never understand not selling these with bracelet...Especially for the cost! Way too top heavy on rubber to wear all day.
why is it more expensive than mm300 if it is worse in all aspects🤷♂️🤔
Gorgeous piece of engineering. Sadly I couldn't soend that much on the seiko it would be an insult to the Santos and to the Seamaster
Not for $5000
How much would you pay?
after this video then back to dealer resell as new ?dude never buy from this dealer!
