You can make your colony and constructor ships move faster by adding ship engines to them in ship designer but it will cost more turns to complete though. Enjoying your catch up start.
Really funny, I just had exactly the same situation with pirate and monster nests in a small sector I had to myself. It's brutal. However I cheated (since I was unfamiliar with this particular situation), reloaded back and built escort fleets for all my surveyors. Surveying was slowed down 'cos I had to track down and eliminate these nests as a matter or urgency (in order to enable colony ships and constructors to operate freely, the monsters ruthlessly target them). Now I've more or less got control of my little sector but other civs have now got Slipstream and are starting to encroach and they're ahead of me 'cos of how much these pesky monsters have slowed me down and denied me easy surveying income. My tip for a rerun of this situation would be that pirates monsters don't seem to attack probes so I would build three probes and set them on auto-explore to locate the nests (they can be anywhere, although you can usually see what direction they come from so you can send a probe to the rough area before setting it to explore). Then build four or five frigates (rush frigate tech) and so eliminate the monster nests as soon as you find them. Meantime you can escort colony ships and do some limited surveying while your probes find the nests with your protected survey ship fleet. On genius these blighters field cruisers so your survey ships can't handle them on their own initially.
Good tip! I usually skip probes and go full greed, but it's smarter to go probe first (and maybe second) if you are alone in a sector. As you will see, the knock on effects from these early losses are punishing.
@@100stratman Yeah, I'll probably follow this LP to see how you manage to overcome this on Godlike (and smirk at your discomfort of course 😂). As I said I'm only on Genius and I reloaded back to implement this strategy but some of my opponents are already nearly double my strength. Gulp!

And better sensors could have helped.
Not one, but TWO civilizaitons I ontributed to, and not all civilziaitons revealed yet! Well, that's a good thng, despite the lack of Bohandi.

Game would of been too easy if those pirates weren't there
Yes....and no. But that's a story for a future episode.
