    I think we can do facial mocap with mocha,
    1.track the face with powermesh
    2.constrain the vertices to locater in dcc app
    3.then constrain locaters to facial controls of the character....😎

    Hello, Can you please tell me if you can use ELEMENT 3D objects on a powermesh? If so that would be amazing! Thank You for any info :) 😉🌺

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  3 роки тому +1

      No simple workflow for this. You could use the dense Null points to drive the position data. But we currently do not have the ability to put those into correct 3D space. They are still 2D points.

    hello :) , a small question, is it possible to extend the power mesh after tracking if we see that it is a bit short?
    or on nuke extend the abc ?

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  3 роки тому

      If you mean the physical mesh, you can use the Mesh Edit tool at the top. Turn on the Überkey first so you don't add tons of keyframes when pulling it out. If you are talking about the length of the PowerMesh, then just track more frames as normal.
      Sometimes it is just easier (and quicker) to start again with a bigger mesh shape than to fiddle with fixing a small one!

      I couldn't extend my mask any more because of the scenery behind (track of a moving neck on a plant base) but I just tried, Überkey to walk on the power mesh. I hadn't thought of it! thank you :)

    Would you guys be able to make a tutorial on occluding? I'm trying to copy what you're doing in here, but I'm not getting proper results at all. I have a face I'm trying to occlude the eyes as well as a part of an arm going in front of the face, but no matter what order my mask tracking is in, they still interfere with the face mesh tracker.

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  3 роки тому +2

      Track mattes should always be above the layer you are tracking. With PowerMesh, the tracking can be a bit sensitive to things that the planar tracker isn't. For example, shadows or motion blurred objects crossing over the face don't worry the planar tracker, but can interfere with getting a great PowerMesh track. Make your track mattes a little bigger than normal if you see that. One last thing to do, is to exclude the eyes on the face layer before creating the mesh. Use the add spline tools (they have a little plus in the bottom right corner) to add extra shapes on the same layer. These will cut out from the main face.

    How to do we combat tracking just the eyes if they are blinking? for example if you wanted to add blood shots to the whites of the eye. Thankyou.

    • @thomaspayne6866
      @thomaspayne6866 3 роки тому

      I use "Motion Bro" plugin for AE - it has a bloodshot effect. You have to manually delete the keyframe for the eye blinking. It's an issue with AE.

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  3 роки тому +2

      You can get the general motion of the eyes by tracking co-planar areas, for example under the eyes and the top bridge of the nose. The forehead can also be useful if it is not too shiny. If you include the eyes in the PowerMesh track, be sure to make separate track mattes that cover the eye lids when they blink. When an area becomes obscured like that, it uses the general planar motion to keep the mesh in the right place. Any small adjustments you have to make can be done afterwards with the Mesh Tools.

      @@BorisFXco Perfectly explained. Thanks so much.

  • @nickschieder1157
    @nickschieder1157 2 роки тому

    This is super helpful and I'm really glad this tool exists, but the uniform vs automatic explanation is a bit confusing at moments. At 1:22 you say uniform is good for areas of less detail, but earlier you say the opposite, at 0:56 you say "for objects you need to capture a lot of detail for, uniform can be a really good option". I'm sure there is some explanation for a distinction between the two but this did throw me off for a bit and gave me a bit of trouble deciding which to use.

    • @BorisFXco
      @BorisFXco  2 роки тому

      Automatic looks to the footage itself for places that it thinks would be good to place mesh points. These are often places like edges or highly identifiable patterns. Sometimes your footage doesn't have enough detail, as in good contrasty areas, to get Automatic to add mesh points where you'd like. This could be for areas of skin. In these cases, where your mesh isn't being create with enough points in the places you want points, use Uniform.
      The other situation is where the object is moving quite a lot and you'd like to match that movement more precisely. For example, the tight folds of t-shirt bending around. Again, Automatic may not generate enough points to matchmove that detailed element. That's the other occasion where you would use Uniform to capture the detail of the *movement*.
      We need to be careful with the language used, as there is the possibility for confusion here. Detail can mean low detail of the image or high detail of the movement to be captured. I hope that helps.

    • @borisfxlearn
      @borisfxlearn 3 роки тому

      Sure - many users have used Mocha Pro combined with warping to alter faces or bodies. If the foreground is slimmed, then remember you need to "in-fill" the background, and Mocha pro's remove module is quite good for this as well. This video is old, but might be interesting: ua-cam.com/video/P7JOBha9_gA/v-deo.html

    • @BorisFXco

      Theoretically you could attach points to the dense null cloud PowerMesh can generate in AE to help drive warping. This is not something I have tried yet but it should take you down an interesting path.

      So that's what "licensing" means in the dropdown purchase menu.... "Licensing" can be interpreted in a number of ways to a noob like me.
      Man, I get very frustrated with Boris FX. For examples, there are several power-mesh videos, and all of them are "intro" videos. Why?
      Just make several videos, with each video showing a beautiful example of what power-mesh can do, followed by detailed step-by-step instructions on how to replicate it.
      I don't need "intro" or "overview" videos with half-assed instructions, what I need are full step-by-step instructions. Why muddy the waters with a million videos?
      Don't forget we have to sift through all those.
      Also, Mary is bright, fast thinking, fast talking, and articulate.
      This is great for her, but terrible for us students.
      1) Slooooow down.
      2) Tell us what buttons you'll click on BEFORE you click them. Mary does the opposite.
      3) Don't skip any steps. I want to see complete start-to-finish (an hour long video is fine! Believe me!).
      4) Chill-out on all the explanations with technical jargon. It's confusing, and won't help us anyway.
      5) Talk less. What matters is showing us what you do and then seeing the outcome.
      I purchased the latest Mocha pro, and I also purchased the Lockdown plugin months ago.
      If you want to see how to make a proper instruction video, mimic his videos.
      PLEASE, I BEG YOU.
      I'm venting with frustration - excuse me.
      Maybe you guys have good reasons for what you do.
      Maybe the majority of your customers have PhDs in Pixel Physics from Pixel University - fine, but consider us 95 IQ people as well.
      A Mocha channel dedicated for dummies will do.
      "Mocha for dummies" - I love it!
      Credit where credit's due - your products are cool.

      @BorisFXco  3 роки тому

      @@thomaspayne6866 You can "purchase" any Boris FX product, meaning you own it and the license for that major version will not expire. Or you can choose to subscribe, which is a time-based option (annual or monthly) and as long as you stay current, the license will always support the newest, latest version. This is quite similar to Adobe.
