    Mocha Pro from BorisFX is an academy award winning planar tracker. You can use it to track and insert new images or videos into your footage. You can use it to remove people from moving shots. And you can use it for rotoscoping work :D
    With version 2019.5 Mocha Pro has added some exciting new features that I want to show you in this tutorial.
    Magnetic Layer Tool - Create a new spline quickly using the magnetic layer tool to easily trace the outline of your subject.
    Freehand Tool - Easily switch to the Freehand tool to draw any shape you want. Mocha Pro will convert the path to a spline for you automatically.
    Edge Snapping - Automatically snap the points of your spline to the nearest identifiable edge.
    All comments and feedback welcome :)

    Great totorial! I'm little confused for this though: in Mocha shapes are merely where to "search" information for trakcing, and keyframing a shape is not equivalent to changing the tracking at that point in time (adjust track function is what does that right?), how did you change the shape directly to fix the tracking?

    • @SurfacedStudio
      @SurfacedStudio  4 роки тому

      You can adjust the shape at any point in time, it will create a new keyframe. Note that if you 'track' it will use whatever the current shape is to generate (or update) the tracking data. But you are correct in that the shapes are simple attached to the tracking data, but they do not represent the actual track itself - if that makes sense :)

  • @NONE2NONE

    The magnetic spline tool follows high contrast areas. If you placed a contrast effect on the video, and boosted the contrast significantly, would the magnetic spline tool be more efficient? After you roto everything out, you could turn the contrast off. Is that possible?

    • @SurfacedStudio
      @SurfacedStudio  4 роки тому

      After Effects does not use your graphics card much so quite honestly it isn't all that important. ua-cam.com/video/nvZORXtbRng/v-deo.html To be future proof I'd get an NVIDIA with a fair amount of CUDA codes in case AE ever gets bit of love in the GPU acceleration department. Also, a fair few plugins that you can get for AE use CUDA / OpenCL so it certainly won't hurt. Go as high on the GTX 1060/70/80 scala as you can comfortably afford. I'd put more money towards RAM, SSDs and CPU though

      As long as it meets the minimum requirements for the programs you intend to run you should be fine :) GPU still only plays a very TINY role in actual performance for 3D or video editing - a strong CPU, SSDs and plenty of RAM likely pay back the most in terms of performance

      @@SurfacedStudio Ahh but not if it was implemented properly. example, you have FULL control over the behavior such as frame ranges, you could paint "weights" on how much snap influence, as well as weight the curve influences from one point across in-between points. and also like in modeling how you can paint "relax" the mesh.. you could paint out the influence over time..

    Why is it more efficient to roto a bunch of body parts and rescrub through each part as opposed to doing his whole body at once and tracking only once?

    • @SurfacedStudio
      @SurfacedStudio  4 роки тому +1

      Because you will need less keyframes per shape. If you try to roto the entire body in one shape you'll likely end up with one keyframe per frame - which will be a horror to manage. You can always give it a shot and see how that compares - best way to learn sometimes is to just try :)

      Personally I can understand why it's not - it's the same issue that the rotobrush tool has. Automatically guessing movement is hard so it's likely to go wrong (a lot) and stopping / fixing / correcting after the fact is often more work than just cleaning up with on-demand snapping when needed :) But that's just my opinion

    using rotobrush in less contrast areas and mocha magnetic brush in completely more contrast area is a bit problematic in this video. How about using magnetic brush on his shirt but not in pants. That would be a good review. I like all your tutorials -i think you are one of the best in youtube - but this one i put a question mark..

      I used auto-snapping on the shirt as well and that worked pretty well except for the overhang over the side of the pants which are very blurry :) Rotobrush is likely still going to chatter (and be slow to propagate) even on something as clearly defined as the pants, but do feel free to give it a shot. The tutorial was a lot longer (the part where I roto all the other parts was actually recorded), but I ended up collapsing it because it was getting too boringly long :D

    this tracking system seems to be garbage..he traks everything..but not what i want..better doing every single picture in premiere or ps

      Mocha is a very powerful tracking tool used by professionals all over the world - and with good reason :) But it's not an easy tool to learn and can feel kinda like "it just doesn't work" if you're not familiar with its workflow, features and quirks. I have a beginner tutorial series here that might help - but of course you're welcome to stick to frame-by-frame work in PP or PS if that works better for you :) ua-cam.com/video/rgwFQDWOKgs/v-deo.html

      @@SurfacedStudio thanks a lot...maybe you could give me a tip how i could track an airplane after using the magnetic selection tool..i guess i have to do several selections and put them later all together as one selection?

      Depends a bit on the size of the airplane in the shot and what sort of movement/track you are after. Remember Mocha is a planar tracker so shapes shouldn’t include multiple planes or your tracking will fail. Check out the playlist I Pinkes, in particular the video on tracking people/advanced rotoscoping that shows how to break up more complex shapes
