Great video, snake and all. People may not understand, or just do not know, the cost of repairs on a boat. Gday Mads - a couple of things. When I built a foam Newick trimaran it had heaps of internal coving and fairing. At first I had lots of trouble with fairing boards digging into the coves or radiii. Then I started putting paper about 1/3 of the way BACK from the leading edge of the flexible sanding blocks/fairing boards. So no paper on the front of the board and only on the aft 2/3rds. What this did was it made the board change shape without digging the front edge into the cove. I still use this technique any time I do internal coves/fillets/fairing. On another note, a mate who makes his money using Alex seal to roll people's boats does not use their primer. Alex seal is awfully expensive so he just uses normal industrial epoxy high build and then Alex Seal over the top of that. He has done many jobs and there have been no bonding issues and he LOVES Alex Seal.

Did the refit of a Beneteau 361 with Andy's consultation (Boatworks Today). Turns out his wife is from Delaware, where I'm located. Had his help with the refit of a Sea Ray 380. Great guy to work with. Did a complete deck sand, epoxy and fair with the paint from Alexseal. Used his SofSand non-skid recommendation, which worked out great. Snakes get a bad rap that they really don't deserve. The one you saw is likely a Black Racer and they are your friends - they eat small rodents and lizards. Now that you have cleared the high weeds it will probably avoid the area under the boat because they don't like being exposed and it's harder to hunt for food. By the way, Black Racers are not poisonous and have tiny little teeth that won't penetrate your skin even if it needed to bite you. They typically won't try to bite you unless it is spring time when it is mating season and they have no choice. The worst part about Black Racers is they whip their tails to warn you they are there and it can be a little startling. Just stop moving for a moment and then take a single slow step away, it will see you are respecting its space and are not a threat. They are pretty smart and in time you may even become friends!
Excellent refurbish on the ramp. When I saw the Sharpie marks the first thing I thought was oh boy, he's going to find out those darn things bleed through bad. Also if you try to clean them off before painting, with cleaners etc. they just don't want to be removed... lesson learned.
Nice to see you getting your hands dirty and enjoying yourself. I'm looking forward to when the title changes hands and she's allll yours. Thanks for sharing.
You always make that work look so easy. "just a bit sanding and it's primer time!" 😅 Can't wait to see the boat refit! And i'd come to help but you're in the wrong continent. 😆
That is funny, I was thinking when I saw the weed during the showing the boat yard, oh he could weed wack those weeds. And there you go and do it. You are amazing. I knew you were a special person the first time I saw your channel. Love watching and listening to you. I will continue watching.
Hi Mads , thanks to you I have started watching @bryansailing. You guys have such different approaches. I love the way that both of you do it, but just totally different .I am really enjoying watching his back episodes, but I can not wait until you can dive in to repairing this boat! p.s I noticed that snake the first time around and I wondered if you would see it when you did the editing.
Progress. It will be really nice to get the workspace cleaned up. I don't know how people can work even halfway efficiently and without stress in total chaos like that. It brings me back to my army days where us soldiers don't get to make a nice clean orderly combat zone in which to engage the enemy. Not fun. Short of that I like to have a nice clean workplace that doesn't cause me PTSD issues when trying to work. All boatwork is always cramped even with all the junk moved out of the way and that can be bad enough in the cleanest and most organized boat. Getting the weeds knocked back is a huge improvement. Just watching you work in that jungle gave me the squiggies. Lions and tigers and snakes -oh my!
@@svbarryduckworth628 I am on my second renovated boat and spend many summers in the yard. The abandoned boats are mostly a complete mess. Not taking on more then 4 projects simultaneously and cleaning up and putting all your tools back in their place at the end of the day is the best indicator for getting the job done in the end.
@@Nerd3927 I'm living on my first renovated boat and now after finishing it and then almost 7 years of living full time on it I guess I did it right the first time. No plans for ever going through all that again. I've got approximately 4000 hours of "somewhat extensive refitting" in it.
❤❤❤ Outstanding tutorial! Your diy instructions and meticulous attention to detail is impressive. I am an old mono hull sailor on the Chesapeake Bay . I am really enjoying your channel.
For keeping the weeds down I recommend a product called Ground Clear. Mix it up, spray it on (use your PPE), and for the next year nothing will grow there.

Try spraying the weeds with 2 gallons on vinegar 1 box of salt and couple squirts of Dawn in a sprayer, it will kill the weeds quick and not harm the environment, but it will smell like you are bbqing.
6:03 - I grew up in South Florida from 77-90 and when we first moved there we did not have any AC.
When I saw the snake I went back like 5 times, I hadnt gone ahead so I had no idea you had seen it too!
And..the real Mads is back, really looking forward to watching you bring your skills to this rebuild
You can see the sparkle of sanding dust glimmering in his eye again 😝
@@AvaSailLife Ava, when you guys bring your spiffy Antares back to Europe remember there is a dinner waiting for you in Galway !
Excellent refurbish on the ramp. When I saw the Sharpie marks the first thing I thought was oh boy, he's going to find out those darn things bleed through bad. Also if you try to clean them off before painting, with cleaners etc. they just don't want to be removed... lesson learned.
Nice contribution from Andy...
Andy is a super nice guy!
If you choose a Saturday, that would be absolutely perfect. I’d be more than happy to help. I live in Cape Coral, but close
Awesome! Thank you :D
such a promising adventure cant wait to see the progress.
Thank you :D
That looked like a black racer. They keep the other unwanted critters out of the area. 👍
If only he could keep venomous snakes away, too 😉
Hi, your well under way , learning as you always have done , great work .
Nice to see you getting your hands dirty and enjoying yourself. I'm looking forward to when the title changes hands and she's allll yours. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for saying and for watching! I know Mads is so happy to be back in DIY mode :)
@@AvaSailLife Well hello Ava, I was starting to wonder if Mads had locked you away somewhere. 🙂 Thanks for the reply and hope you're both doing well.
Stay safe and fair winds.
Mads, your monologue is hilarious always. I think you should be a writer in your spare time after finishing your boat work for the day.
Hehe 😜I tell him that all the time.
@@AvaSailLife That's great. Excellent advice I think. From glorious sanding to glorious scripting.
Great update 2x👍
Thanks for watching :)
Great stuff! It keeps me up at night in a good way 😅.
Haha! Us too 😜 Thanks for watching!
12:32 Snake 😳😳😳
Good stuff
You always make that work look so easy. "just a bit sanding and it's primer time!" 😅
Can't wait to see the boat refit! And i'd come to help but you're in the wrong continent. 😆
Haha! Well thank you for the offer and thanks for watching!
Always a good vid to chill out with. Hope all is well!
Thank you so much :)
Clean and tidy wins the race. Especially in a marathon like this :)
Inside corner is fillet. A fiddle is a raised edge on a countertop to prevent objects from sliding off during movement.
❤❤❤ Outstanding tutorial! Your diy instructions and meticulous attention to detail is impressive. I am an old mono hull sailor on the Chesapeake Bay . I am really enjoying your channel.
Thank you so much! :)
I cannot wait to see how this project turns iout Mads. This is going to be an exceptionally long process
For keeping the weeds down I recommend a product called Ground Clear. Mix it up, spray it on (use your PPE), and for the next year nothing will grow there.
I am so excited to see you start this new project!!! can wait for the real work to begin!!!!
Same! Just a little bit longer :) and there will be a frustrating period with cleaning up and getting settled in to get up to speed
@@SailLife ... Sorry to admit I am even looking forward to that!!!!
I am french, I live outside Paris, but I grew up in Florida (Miami, Gainesville, Cedar Key, Tampa / St. Pete), I love seeing the real side of things and not just tourist "influencer" shots .... Thank you!
Try spraying the weeds with 2 gallons on vinegar 1 box of salt and couple squirts of Dawn in a sprayer, it will kill the weeds quick and not harm the environment, but it will smell like you are bbqing.
As aways a great Vlog and what I look forward to each week. Having sponsors is a great idea after all there’s owt for nowt in this world.
Thank you :) I hope that is how most people will see it :)
You’re at your best doing projects, it will be worth watching your progress. This just seems to come natural to you..
6:03 - I grew up in South Florida from 77-90 and when we first moved there we did not have any AC. I was a little kid and my mom would put us to bed every night with a wet washcloth on our foreheads so we could sleep. But we did have a massive mango tree that we climbed in and grabbed fresh mangos every day ;)
Bring on sponsors no worries 😎
Awesome! I hope most people will see it the same way :)
