Twisting the "N" word to ginger is genius.
He wrote the lyrics and score for thr West End musical Matilda
Its been runming for over a decade.
Tim's a national treasure
His spoken word performance of "Storm" is absolutely brilliant.
yes, this! Storm is sooooo good!
"gingernuts" are actually biscuits! lol
Perfect for dipping in a hot cup of tea. 😋
The man is a genius. He takes on serious topics and in his own way makes it light hearted . A self taught pianist and performer . He leads you up the path and then pulls the rug out. O hh he’s talking about this 😊. Very talented funny and thought provoking . Nice one Mike
Agree! How you doing man?

In an interview Tim Minchin said that once he realised that both words contained the same letters he couldn't not write the song...
Tim was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of W.A for his services to entertainment globally. His acceptance speech is right up your alley Mr Son of Buck. Outstanding. What an amazing human he is. He taught himself to play piano.
Tim's "Dark Side - Awesome Version" , is an absolute must see.
100% agree. absolutely epic.
Tim is definitely one of the smartest people in music.
Some comedians wish they'd have been musicians. Some musicians wish they'd been comedians.
Tim said "F*ck it. I'ma do both and also compose music for movies and shit.". I can barely play "Chopsticks" and here's this asshole LITERALLY PIMP-SLAPPING THE KEYBOARD AND IT'S STILL IN TUNE?! And all while singing. F*ck you. It just isn't fair 😆
Tim wrote a piece for the 50th anniversary of the Sydney Opera house. All of the words speak of playing it safe while all of his actions were contradictory. It's a brilliant piece with a small cameo by Jimmy Barnes, along with many others. He's written scores for a couple of Broadway musicals including "Matilda."
I absolutely love this song
I am so envious of people who are discovering the genious of Tim Minchin. His genius become clear when you see how many different flavors of comedy he has. When you see he was chosen to produce the first ever BBC comedy prom it becomes clear that everyone appreciate his unique and brilliant talent. Try the live version of "Storm" or "Dark Side" or "3 minute song for wossy" or "Mitsubishi Colt" or so many others.
Tim is seriously musically talented. He wrote the music for Mathilda the musical as well as for Groundhog Day. As well as a talented songwriter, singer, comedian and musician, he is also a great actor.
You have struck gold with our beloved Tim. He is a multi-talented, award-winning musician, lyricist, comedian, pianist, singer, performer. "Dark Side (awesome version) is the next thing to check out.....you will not be disappointed.
I’m utterly impressed by how long you kept a straight face!
Also, thanks Mike, you brightened my afternoon.
Thank you...
Man, this is a deep rabbit hole.
He has so much talent it should be illegal
Not in Australia ; )
Tim is an absolute legend and is highly intelligent
My favourite from him is lullaby (but if you listen to it you need to realise like a lot of Australians Tim has a dark sense of humour)
Lullaby is my favourite too!
Tim’s a satirical genius. We all knew where he was going with those six letters, but next thing he’s cleverly switched it around, caught us off guard, and it’s all about being a ginger. The phrase only a ginger can call another ginger ginger really hits home when you swap those words around.
Tim Minchin is the ulitimate writer/performer. He mixes intelligent comedy and emotion into his material and backs it up with vituoso quality piano playing. In my not very humble opinion, "Dark Side (awesome version) is the ultimate show of his talents. Thanks for all the great aussie reactions, Mike and keep up the great work, and stay safe out there, mate.
This song slaps so hard.
Tim is honestly one of the most talented people there is and also incredibly intelligent. The fact that he is a virtuosic pianist but it's not even the only thing he does just blows my mind.
"dark side" (awesome version) and "thank you god" are two of his best can't wait until you pull those two out of the Tim minchin rabbit hole.
The world has a nearly infinite array of talent and it's not possible to sample it all, but I'm glad you have experienced Tim Minchin. He really is one of a kind and very difficult to forget.
We love setting people up - thanks for being such a good sport!😂
Joking aside, he is really singing about the "n" word without actually singing about the "n" word if that makes sense. He drops a hint in one line when he pronounces the word with the soft "g" instead of the hard "j" sound.
By the way, about his reference to the ladies dipping his ginger nuts in their ginger tea: in Oz we have a very popular biscuit called Ginger Nut biscuits. And biscuits here are mostly what you call cookies, but they are hard and crisp. Sometimes we call things cookies, such as Choc Chip cookies, but they're softer and doughier. And we don't really have a parallel to American biscuits that you serve with sausages and white sauce for breakfast. They sound like our scones (pronounced scons) but they're sweet, often contain fruit, or pumpkin, and are served hot with lashings of butter, or jam (jelly) and cream. I know, total segue due to the Ginger Nuts - I just wanted to erase whatever traumatic mental image that reference may have formed in your head.❤
Tim is amazing. Nothing or no-one is safe with Tim's comedy songs, but he has some of the most beautiful serious songs as well. I find him so interesting, even when he speaks. He's one of my most favourite people in the world. Glad you enjoyed this...thankyou 😊
Went to university in Western Australia went back to give them a life tips speech, sage funny advice, well worth a listen.
Actually going to hamer hall in Melbourne to watch tim being interviewed by Virginia Trioli for an hour or 2 about his new book which is about all the different speeches he's given at numerous universities and colleges
Oh yes... that is well worth watching, especially as he seems like he was barely prepared for it (just like one might be for a uni presentation, remembered at 10pm the night before) and kind of fumbled his way through what turned out to be some very, very good advice. And made the head of school "whoopsies" laugh just exactly in the right moment.
Cool I was gonna suggest that too 👍🏻
Great reaction mate. Intellect and talent are undeniable and Tim Minchin has plenty of both. Love and appreciate your work, it's top shelf. 👌
Whilst its not a music video, check out his speech at his old Alma Mater in Perth. It will give you a clear insight into his talent, personality and humour.
Such a clever word-smith. The way he plays with words and concepts. He does the bait and switch - you think he is singing about a completely different offensive word and then he brings out Ginger but he is still really talking about the first n word. Only he could sing about such a serious subject but make it so funny but thought provoking.
Hugely talented on so many levels
I'm sure there's some kind of mathematical formula behind it. For every so many thousand people who are useless, there's one Tim.
One of Australia's most underrated national treasures. Think he's just hit canada on his unfunny tour (hasnt written a comedy song since 2009) saw the show twice in Melbourne and perth. Extremely intelligent and just a good person. Always happy to meet the fans my arm is tattoed with hand written signed song lyrics from when i ran into him while i was on holiday. 4 weeks and off to see him in Melbourne in a packed expensive theatre to watch him being interviewed for an hour or 2 about his new book. 58yo aussie grew up with the best live gig industry on the bloody planet in the 80's and 90s and comedy, serious music or just talking Tim Minchin in 40 years is my favourite gig
If you look at any more, his spoken-word/standup “Storm” is a scream.
And “Take Your Canvas Bags To The Supermarket” is just terrific fun.
He is just brilliant. 😂👍
never get sick of seeing people react to this brilliance lol
ginger nuts are cookies in Australia
Tim is a genius.
This one was meant to be humorous with a touch of don't bully gingers, but I love his seriously emotional songs best! Like Not Perfect! He's a sensitive and very talented man! My father was a pianist and funny, shame he never saw or heard Tim! 🤗
Thanks Mike. BTW you're one of the VERY few reactors who put themselves smaller than the video - cheers mate!
I've seen so many reactions where the joke just goes over people's head's
You understand this is not about prejudice against gingers. It is 100% about the N word.
Well, that’s the setup.
@donepearce so many miss that right?!
You need to find a TV show he wrote and stared in called Upright. It is brilliant.
Loved that show, it was actually my introduction to him which I think is pretty unusual
Mike, You win! I just subscribed to your channel. I don't usually subscribe, as I don't like commitments. I have watched several of your video's and have come to the conclusion that you are genuine and a nice guy. Thanks for show-casing Australian talent.
Wow, thanks! I won't let you down. I'm no different than you my friend. We just like honest people.
His song lullaby is another good one. He is very clever
Hi from Australia, I love watching the reactions to this song so many go straight to (you know what). Love your channel.
You really want to see his talent react to "Dark Side Awesome Version" he puts his musicality and his comedy to the forefront on this one!
Mike, I happy you enjoyed my request🍻
Tim is so very talented and intelligent. He uses the misdirection at the beginning as a misdirection. He is actually singing about that first taboo word we all were thinking about. Just in a way that allows us to laugh along. Tho yes everything thing he is saying about gingers is also applicable.
Great reaction to Tim, some people don’t get him or recognize his talent. Super talented and very funny ❤❤😊
Before the big reveal he sings "Even I am careful with it" which offers a little clue as to where this is headed 🤣
I'm grateful for your perspective friend
We are good to you because you are authentic. Keep doing what you're doing ❤
If you want a good laugh do Superwog, Australian cops.
Very worth it!!!!!
Edit. Your enjoyment is thanks enough for me.
2nd that.
Tim Minchen and Fascinating Aida are both extremely talented at producing songs which are often funny or extremely moving.
He certainly is brilliant. Also from my home town so extra credit for that lol
Ahhh....
Well got!
🇦🇺❣️
Tim is a genius. One of the best pianists around. His song "Grew On Me" is definitely one of the best love songs ever written. It'll make you laugh but it'll also get you right in the feels about love.
And yes, yours is a great comment around getting stuck in a small category of music - it's very common. I've learned over decades that even stuff I wouldn't think I'd ever like (based on genre or artist) that there's almost always something interesting about it, whether just a clever arrangement or cool instrument or clever or moving lyrics. The streaming services don't have a clue what to recommend me because I'm all over place with my music taste 😅
Matilda is the best musical I have ever seen. He is very talented.
Another fantastic reaction mate
👍
He wrote music for the kids movie Matilda remake which is on Netflix, hes also doing acting now
If you want to see his amazing piano skills check out Dark Side (Awesome version).
Brilliant
Another great pick Mike.
❤❤❤❤❤
Tim Minchin - Storm (not the animated one, the live one)
Second that. The live one for sure.
Hey to our Texan friend over there in the USA.. Hi... If you're still interested in getting familiar with some more Australian Rock/Soul music in a similar vein to that of Cold Chisel and Ian Moss then please listen to the 'Black Sorrows'. To get a taste of their real talent then please watch 'Live in Concert MTV 8th April 1989', because I think this will really touch you. Thanks for all your insights.
Can't believe it's taken you this long to get to this one.
Mike did bloody well, I only sent the request in 36 hrs ago,
If i might humbly suggest, have a look at darkside. From when sony turned him down...very very clever..the awesome version is the best one...done in NZ hence, the beginning bit....bro lol.
Dark SIde (Awesome Version) will leave your jaw dangling,
You should listen to Tims song "the pope song" ( not the orchestral one) just Tim and his piano. Listen on your own though cause UA-cam might go mad at you cause it is definitely NOT PC but it's so very true and is something to really think about! It's a powerful song.
Thank You God and the Pope Song reactions coming soon. lol
Music/scent, both powerful memory triggers. I'm from WA. It smells old, rusty and big.
Not sure if you use "Ranga" in the US... it is short for Ourangutang, as in the red fur? Had to explain it to a young Ukrainian lady once after her very nice new Aussie girlfriends used the term... she was completely horrified. It's not considered particularly offensive in Oz, but maybe we're just weird about that sort of thing.... thanks for reacting
All my mates call me called an Orangutan that has been strategically shaved🦧
Lol ive listen to that song so many times and never caught on to that specific term (I am French Canadian) I had just brush it off as an English word but now that I read your comment it makes sense. Thanks mate!
You should watch "thank you god" or "the pope song", then try the "song for Cardinal Pell"
He once used the N word in a previous song and a black guy bailed him up about it after a performance, so he removed it from that song and then wrote this one.
Don't have money to give you a coffee, I'm really sorry, but I would love to see you react to Harry McClintock's 1928 song "Big Rock Candy Mountain" ❤
I'll add it to the list ma'am... Thanks!
@@SonofBuck-f7z i hope you enjoy ^^
I think what you are trying to say, is that your horizon is being expanded.
If you want one of Tim's less intellectual songs.... I highly recommend 'The Pope Song'. Enjoy.
Can you get the tv show "UP right" you must watch.
r/whoooosh
G'day mike
Yes he's a brilliant lyricists
I'm not sure it you caught the start
Why he spelt the letters out as they are the same as the N word
He makes people think it's where he's heading
You've had kids so you will relate to he's song becoming a new parent
I also think you missus would get a kick, out of this one as well
Check out Tim's lullaby
Obviously us Aussie's relating to you So two way street
Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍
Did you understand the song? Prejudice. A play on the word ginger (a red-headed person).
Ginger nuts are hard ginger biscuit in Aus
Yeah, that was epic... lol
Must admit, i love inflatable you!! 10 out of 10
Highly recommended
Wait unitl he gets on the religion subject.
But did you get lead down Tim's garden path ?
No like due to an average Tim minchin, have you seen taskmaster?
