- From www.swimmingpoo... - Learn about cleaning cartridge filters and when backwashing is and is not used. Cartridge filters work differently than sand filters by collecting debris and oils in the paper filter cartridge inside.

Finally my question has been answered! Searched everywhere, no one keeps anything simple anymore. People more concerned with getting their videos “liked”
OMG.....I was going crazy trying to find the backwash lever on my cartridge filter...lol!
You and me both, lol.
Thanks so much. I was looking everywhere online to see if you backwash a cartridge filter.
Never had a sand but cartridges are a pita to clean
Thank you fairly new plaster pool owner with cartridge filters. You answered my question. Thank you friend
DE Cartridge, different story. This video did help, thus I liked & commented for the algo.
DE fingers not cartridge..DE needs to be backwashed too
Awesome thanks
Question:
While cleaning any filter (DE filter or
Cartridge filter) why do some pool guys remove the pump lid? My boss does this as well but he doesn’t explain why?
Hey. What psi should a cartridge filter be at? Mine is brand new and psi is 32???
I have a new system also. Mine is around 10-15 psi. That seems high.
My Pentair Clean and Clear Cartridge Filter (150 Ft/Sq) instructions suggest to add.75 pounds of DE after cleaning the element. Does this make sense to you?
Thank you.
Thank you! Love the simple answer and explanation.
It helped me go with a cartridge filter.
If I have fine algae coming out of my jets on a cartridge filter pool. How would I get rid of that? I do not have a back wash at all
I am going from D.E. to cartridge but I think its the same as sand... great video
I need to get lower the water level in my pool, can I do that with the cartridge filter? If so how?
not entirely true, Black diamond filters do get back washed...
Thx you so much!!!
Not helpful at all
Hey Steve, can I use Floccuant if I have cartridge filter?
You should not. Also, it will say as much on the instructions for the product. If it is needed as a treatment ypu would need to remove the filters first for thee 24 hour treatment
Thanks man
When vacuuming algae out of my pool (cartridge filter system) it will push back into the pool the algae and it has been a never ending cycle of Treating, vacuuming, cleaning cartridge and again and again until the algae has regained life and is now green again.
Please help I am obviously doing something wrong. Thank you
Take the filters out and degrease them. While they are out, floc the pool, let it sink to the floor and vacuum to waste in the morning. Cartridge filters do not have a waste valve so you would need a diverter valve in between the pump and filter which allows you to pump to waste instead of loading your filter.
@@Swimmingpoolsteve Do you think this is the only way, besides haveing a professional come with their own portable vacuum pump?
Thank you
thank for the answer
Thanks, 👍👍
Anyone know how to vacuum to waste using a cartridge filter?
You need a diverter valve installed in between your pump and filter.

What do you suggest? Cartridge filter or sand filter? I’m constantly backwashing with my sand filter. We have a salt water pool, if that matters?
HIGHLY recommend cartridges. We went the whole summer and never needed to clean the elements. With our old sand filter, I was backwashing constantly. Plus water quality is way better with cartridges. Sand doesn’t clean nearly as well. Spend the money, get a cartridge filter, you’ll enjoy your pool sooooooo much more!
And it’s take double the time for the sand filter to filter and it take the cartridge one cycle to filter.
@@Dev_209 thank u! Our pool seevice wanted to convert our cartridge filter to sand and gave us a huge estimate for the work when we didnt need to.
@@aggierowe9574 your welcome by the way I’m a 13 year old and know more than most people and the businesses like scamming.
