Great. I have 5.5 as well and sometimes it feels too much for my local trails. Great bike, but not sure I need all it's ability. Going to demo Instict and new altitude.
Great review. I really liked the riding and back and forth between the shop and the trails. Great job. I suppose you like your Yeti 5.5 better? If you had to pick one thing that the yeti does better what would it be? And if you had to pick one thing the ripmo did better what would it be compared to the yeti? Thanks.
Thanks for watching and the comment. That is a hard question as both bikes are so remarkably similar. Both in geo, travel and overall feel. If I had to choose I would say the RipMo is better on general trail riding/traversing while the Yeti feels more secure/fast going down. But both are very close in nearly every regard.
nice review. also just watched your review of the yeti sb130. these 2 bikes are at the top of my shopping list. Which did you prefer and would buy out of these 2 bikes.
To be fair I haven’t ridden the updated Ripmo so that might change my mind. However, I really like the SB130 a lot. The SI link is just a great pedal platform. A bike that or the Hightower for example would be a pretty perfect all around bike. I have heard good things about the updated RipMo and am hoping to get on one soon.
Pretty similar actually. For me they are very close in all aspects and comes down to personal brand preferences. I would say the Yeti is marginally better climbing but not significant difference
@@IslandBikeLife - If you had to choose between Hightower LT and Ripmo which one would you go for? I can get a S build hightower LT for $900 less than the GX RIPMO. I ride trails, and would like to do some light enduro type riding or black trails....
Hard one. Both playful in different ways. The Ripmo was not as squishy, felt a bit more planted. Both were very light feeling and popped around the trail nice. Comes down to more intended use I guess. The Ripmo could be used in more trail scenarios or XC type stuff where as the Firebird can do that, just won’t be as efficient.
The Firebird frame is probably much heavier, like 7lbs whereas the Ripmo is near 5lbs. That is a significant weight difference if it matters. It would to me.
The new ripley is pretty about the same geo. With these seat tube and slack hta I know these bikes go up and down very well. But do you think the Ripley would be comfortable for xc type riding? Cross country type pedalling withbthe steap seat tube angles these days
I preferred it to the regular Instinct, however, this past weekend I took out a BC Edition Instinct which was very good and more of a direct comparison. Between those 2 it would be a hard call, both have their attributes. Stay tuned for that review coming soon.
Pros and cons compared to a SB130? climbing, tight singletrack? L Ripmo and M SB130 seem about the same on paper but the L IBIS felt small just riding around the parking lot. Thanks for you assistance.
I prefer the SB130 in every way over the Ripmo. Both are great bikes, but I prefer the pedal platform of the SI over the DW Link. Trail riding they are pretty even and on descents I found myself more stable feeling on the 130. At your height I would look to a L SB130 not a M. The Ripmo is a very fun and playful bike though so if that’s what you are after than might be the better pick. The SB-130 is very planted feeling.
Hey dude, great review as usual!I'd like to hear your take on modern geometry, and longer reach in particular.i'm pretty new to mtbing and currently ride 3 bikes,a sm with 420 reach and 44.3 wheelbase,a med. with 425 reach, and 45.5 wheelbase, and a med. 29er,wjth 411 reach and 45 wheelbase.they all have about 74 degree seatangles.sitting on the bikes the 29er feels taller, the small very low,and the med, well,in the middle.Mind you I'm 5'6",but was able to setup the cockpit so they're as close as possible, pedaling position, handle bar height, etc. What effect do you find having a streched out reach?More weight on the front wheel?Sorry for the long post, but I'm very curious.Ultimately I guess it makes for a more capable bike going downhill with the wheelbase being streched out as well. Thanks, enjoy your videos!
The bike market has inflated prices like ski resort real estate. Seriously, $6400 for a GX build? At least it has the Code brakes. I got a fully tricked out Smash with XO/Next R, Code RSC, I9 wheels with Minion DHF & DHR, MRP Ribbon, Yoke Revive post, One Up toolkit, AND a Topaz for $5600. It's absurd how the market bears these retail prices. Great review, I fell in love with the Ripley LS and the Ripmo was definitely on my list. Cheers
Does the steep seat tube angle make the reach numbers feel smaller? I'm 6"2 as well and have a 35 inch inseam, just trying to figure out what size i need
The performance elite is every bit as good as the factory. Has all the same basic features minus the kashima coating a few clicks of adjustment. The performance 36 is good, but not as nice. The grip damper performs well but that setup is limited if you really want to try and dial in your stuff. So depends on if our are upgrading from the performance or the performance elite.
They are very budget. I did not ride those on this bike but have recent exposure to them. I prefer those over base entry Guide Rs for example. But my new favourite ‘enduro’ brake is the Code line from SRAM. Love the feel of them!

@@IslandBikeLife Good to know. Which one descends best?
I prefer the 130 though both are great. The geo on them is pretty similar.
Great review. Really considering this bike.
Thanks for watching. It was a very fun bike, you really can't go wrong!
Does the Performance fork come with a Grip 2 damper? I don't think it does.
Good catch. It is the new Grip damper, which is fantastic, but not the Grip 2 which replaces the RC2. Misspoke on that point, thank you!
Thanks for review. Sorry to be nitpicky but I think I heard you say seat tube angle is similar to yeti sb55. Maybe you meant similar to SB130?
The SB55 was available at the time of this. The SB130 is similar to that bike in the current lineup.
So If you could only own one bike. Ripmo/SB130/Santa Cruz HIGH Towe LT ?
SB130 for sure out of that lot.
Island Bike Life. Right on thanks

Hello! ? If you had to choose one for all day down hill sesh firebird vs Ripmo
Not concerned about how fast you get to the top? Firebird for sure. If peddling really matters in this scenario the Ripmo.
Hi man! Thanks for review. Ripmo or Firebird 29? Which bike is more playful and more fun?

How tall are you?

Thanks for watching. Can’t say I disagree with you on the cost of bikes these days!
Jesus, Thats a deal but this is in Canadian dollars, you must be quoting US . Your bike here would likely sell for $7700 at least.

I would go with an XL for sure. The L ‘fit’ but it was a bit tight. The little extra room would be nice.
What are your thoughts on the fox 36 performance? Worth upgrading to the the factory 36?

Have u tried the 2018/2019 Scott genius? Which would u prefer as the one bike quiver killer?
I spent a week on a 2018 Genius is Spain this past summer. It was a great bike for sure but between these I would lean toward the RipMo.
What was your impression of the M6000 Deore brakes on this bike? Were they powerful enough? Thx
They are very budget. I did not ride those on this bike but have recent exposure to them. I prefer those over base entry Guide Rs for example. But my new favourite ‘enduro’ brake is the Code line from SRAM. Love the feel of them!

"Stainchays" : )
Haha good catch
InMotion Outdoors better than stained shorts👍. Good review
When I’m blazed as I do that ,switch the first letters of words subconsciously.
Hilarious ,pin this if you were cooked as when you said that.
🤙🇦🇺💯🎯
That was the first thing heard, he lost credibility lol
How does this bike climb compared to your SB150?
I would rate them pretty close. The Ripmo climbs a bit nicer I would say.
All that money on cliched style shots, and then we hit shakeycam footage. ;)
