If I remember correctly, the last IMAX 70mm film print that came to India was of Interstellar in Prasads IMAX, Hyderabad. It was the last screening post which the theatre shut down only to reopen as a digital large format. Other than that, Nolan himself had brought the 70mm IMAX print of Dunkirk and the 35mm print of Interstellar in Mumbai for one night only.
This is an amazing video! Here in the States, my local IMAX theater (Navy Pier IMAX) sadly closed back in 2021. It showed both documentaries and feature films in 15/70mm or 4k GT Laser. I recently took a trip to see Oppenheimer and Interstellar in 15/70mm, and it was truly an out of this world experience. I was here as a kid in the mid 2000's for my summer vacation and I vividly remember watching T-Rex Back to the Cretaceous (surprised that they are still playing it). Must say, I was utterly spellbound by the IMAX 3D visuals and the sound (my first experience of IMAX) of this incredible auditorium. Each time I watch the IMAX opening countdown, it takes me back to that awesome day.
I still remember being here as a kid back in the early 2000s, probably around 2005, and I only remember watching something with Dinosaurs haha... but now it clicked that it was T-Rex Back to the Cretaceous. But as KD mentioned, I can confirm that the 3D effects are mind-blowing where you would literally feel things coming out of the screen and you trying to touch them. At that time being a kid I never knew until I grew up that it was not a regular 3D movie cinema hall, but it was freaking real IMAX cinema that I experienced at that age. Thanks to KD for spreading this awareness.

Still regretting about our decision.
Wonderful to see the Gujarat Science City IMAX KD. Thank you for taking us there without leaving home. We have got to get IMAX up and running in this great cinema again. I think it's going to be a bucket list item for me if that happens but it may all come to pass. By the way, 3D is always a little disappointing compared to flat in terms of definition. Prasads had a sad story. They were keen to run an IMAX theatre but two things happened at the same time. 1. IMAX wanted to move away from the reels (the big 70mm format) 2. Prasad's IMAX projection for reel camera went bad, and technicians from IMAX asked them to go digital. After that and some confrontations, Prasad's created their own format, they call it PCX. Prasad's Cinema Experience.
I think it was closed for over a year in last year. And in news it was shown that they are upgrading to digital. Is it true? If not why was it closed in the last year?
This is not the sole 1.43:1 IMAX screen in India, below is the story of 1 other. The Akshardham in Delhi also used to have 70 mm IMAX, have seen their own short film in that huge theater back in 2006 and multiple times after that till 2012. However, I recently visited the place in 2023 but they seem to have done away with the IMAX but interestingly they have still retained the huge screen from before and seem to be using some sort of digital projectors instead, they are using a 2 projector setup (And used the entire size of IMAX screen - 80feet and in the original 70mm aspect ratio - I didn't know something like that was even possible since digital projectors even IMAX ones tend to have a maximum of 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio but this one had the full 1.43:1 of the original IMAX ) But this one had some serious alignment issues in the 2 projectors resulting in severe fringing across edges and generally hazy picture because of that, they have even removed the IMAX sound system and downgraded to something much worse, the huge rear surrounds have been removed and small surround speakers have been added in the sides, overall it sounds even worse than regular multiplexes, the brackets for the rear surrounds remain as a reminder of its IMAX origins.
I have read about Neelkanth Darshan and Mystic India, how it was up-resed into IMAX as well screened at Gujarat. But I have seen absolutely zero evidence on the internet during my research that it was ever an IMAX theatre. Not have I seen any mention of IMAX trademark for Mystic India. Akshardham is indeed closeby to my parents house and i would pay a visit myself soon and dig deeper.
It was 100% 70 mmIMAX, only they have that kind of screen size, aspect ratio and full range super large surround speakers in the rear diagonals of the walls, now, like I said they have cut their ties with IMAX for some reasons but the screen is retained but uses low quality digital projectors and lower quality audio as well. The screen size and rear surround's mounts are the only tell tale signs of its IMAX origins. P.S also it was not up res IMAX but the movie is indeed shot on IMAX, and used to be presented in 70mm, now they have digitised it to be used into this newer lower res digital format.
You were going to do 5 part series right? With Kolkata and one UP wala imax...now you're down to only three part... May i know the reason KD? Btw awesome video 💯
I wrote the script but I wasnt too happy about it. There is not enough information to research and zero photos to show. It would’ve been 10mins of me talking and guessing things lol
You're saying this is ur first 1.43 Aren't imax laser too are in 1.43? I compared few shots from last years interstellar Delhi screening(it's on UA-cam) to my home BD 1.7 and i can see few extra real-estate with Delhi screening
I remember watching these documentaries in imax Wadala (Mumbai) i think even that theatre had film projector, it also had the dome screen, I was blown away by the experience, this was 2003 i think, I saw spider man 2 there.
I watched 'Wrath of the Titans 3D' there in 2013 i guess... It still is my best movie watching experience till date for such an average movie😂. In my opinion we cinephiles of India should crowd-fund & import best 15-70 films for Gujarat Science City as govt. wont do a thing, so much so for Modi's digital india 😆. KD u shud start crowd funding , I m sure cinephiles will contribute.

This is not the sole 1.43:1 IMAX screen in India, below is the story of 1 other.
The Akshardham in Delhi also used to have 70 mm IMAX, have seen their own short film in that huge theater back in 2006 and multiple times after that till 2012.
However, I recently visited the place in 2023 but they seem to have done away with the IMAX but interestingly they have still retained the huge screen from before and seem to be using some sort of digital projectors instead, they are using a 2 projector setup
(And used the entire size of IMAX screen - 80feet and in the original 70mm aspect ratio - I didn't know something like that was even possible since digital projectors even IMAX ones tend to have a maximum of 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio but this one had the full 1.43:1 of the original IMAX ) But this one had some serious alignment issues in the 2 projectors resulting in severe fringing across edges and generally hazy picture because of that, they have even removed the IMAX sound system and downgraded to something much worse, the huge rear surrounds have been removed and small surround speakers have been added in the sides, overall it sounds even worse than regular multiplexes, the brackets for the rear surrounds remain as a reminder of its IMAX origins.
@ds15891 I’ll look into it. Thanks!
I want to go there. Do they show documentry everyday?
Yes, except mondays I guess
You were going to do 5 part series right? With Kolkata and one UP wala imax...now you're down to only three part...
May i know the reason KD?
Btw awesome video 💯
I wrote the script but I wasnt too happy about it. There is not enough information to research and zero photos to show. It would’ve been 10mins of me talking and guessing things lol
You're saying this is ur first 1.43
Aren't imax laser too are in 1.43?
I compared few shots from last years interstellar Delhi screening(it's on UA-cam) to my home BD 1.7 and i can see few extra real-estate with Delhi screening
Yes even Dual laser IMAX is 1.43 but India doesn't have any
@@upmrvrmi9722 u missed my 3rd point
No all screens in India are 1.90:1
Not sure where you saw clips of the Delhi IMAX audi, but I have visited them all and they’re all 1.90
@@KDCloudy oh I see 👍
Didn’t Nolan present Dunkirk there?
That was at Wadala IMAX Mumbai
@@KDCloudy So there’re more than one 70mm IMAX theaters in India?
@VariTimo I made a video on Wadala, its closed now but it started as a 70mm dome before retrofitting to digital
Both left and right eye film is fed into the same projector or there are two projectors?
2 projectors. Its hard to operate one projector with all those complications. Feed 2 reels complications x10
Single projector unit but has two lamps and lenses
What about pvr imax Ahmedabad in palladium mall
Its opening soon. Saw some pictures of it, seems like a 55ft IMAX Laser like Delhi’s Saket one
I remember watching these documentaries in imax Wadala (Mumbai) i think even that theatre had film projector, it also had the dome screen, I was blown away by the experience, this was 2003 i think, I saw spider man 2 there.
Wow! Interesting to hear. I made a similar video about Wadala too!
Seems far fetched to crowdfund more than a crore rupees. Somebody has to sponsor like Paytm did for 2018 Dunkirk 70mm screening
@@KDCloudy Paytm did ? I didn't know that !! Seems like only option we have now is to wait for Apple Vision Pro & watch BvS Snyder cut as that was released in 1.4:1
Bro will Godzilla X Kong will play in IMAX Full Screen
Good video but aur kab bani gyi😊 and chali gyi
Hey KD Cloudy! The news of Christopher Nolan's Tenet re-releasing in February has me thrilled! 🌟 With Gujarat Science City IMAX as the sole 70 mm film IMAX in India, I'm eager to know if we might catch Tenet's brilliance at this iconic venue. Considering the unmatched prowess of Gujarat Science City IMAX, could we be in for an epic experience of Tenet? 🎬 Fingers crossed for this cinematic treat! 🍿🤞 #TenetAtGujaratScienceCityIMAX #CinematicExcitement
Hey man. They don’t issue new prints for re-releases, its just the theatres which have prints will be screening Tenet.
Although, Dune 2 might get prints and I’m in touch with the management to get updates regarding that
Just a tip: Don't waste your money and time on Prasads. IMAX no longer recognizes it as a theatre and it's kinda underwhelming.
I have been living in Hyderabad and visit Prasada often. Their dual laser 4K setup is actually kinda great and I found it too be sharper and brighter than ahmedabad’s screen albeit not screen filling
Yeah PCX gives us the best experience in Hyderabad considering all the aspects specially floor to ceiling immersive experience 🙌 . Need to wait for its eligible print that projects end to end. Current running movies like salaar, also next coming Guntur Karam won't help to visually experience it.
Why imax theater in Hyderabad is removed?
Next video on that
Video ke start mein hi 2002 Gujarat boldia bhai kya kar raha hai
BHAI HAHAHA FUCK
I saw titanic n avatar there insane exp !!
Hyderabad PCX is 101 feet tall
Wide**
Its is 90 ft tall before it is 100 ft height but now reduced
