I remember watching movies in Aeren R IMAX Kolkata mostly during the 2009-2011 period with my college friends. it was amazing to witness movies on such an epic scale.. wish it had never closed. wow, can't believe i found this channel suddenly. so glad your video came up in recommendation. well researched/ written and presented videos like this is so rare in india!
I have watched a lot of movies here. The dome documentaries, lion king, matrix revolutions formatted to the dome. Then all the marvel movies when it was converted to flat screen. I also happened to catch the final movie which was the Avatar 2. The theater was pretty abandoned by then only the imax screen was running. I was caught off guard by the closing of the theater and then realised i had luckily seen the final film there. RIP Imax.

A really good video about the history of the Theatre/Company which started the multiplex trend in Mumbai. Was lucky to watch a couple of films there and create a lifetime of memories. Endgame And Nope being the best experiences. (Coincidentally watched Pathaan just before the theatre's closure without any clue 😬) PS: In an old interview of Mr. Manmohan Shetty on being asked about starting the first multiplex in India, and PVR on the other hand saying there were the ones who did it, he replied "We 'Built' the first multiplex in India, PVR 'converted' bunch of single screens and called it 'multiplex', we did it from scratch." A lot of respect for him for starting this.
Yess interior and maintenance does play a big part but I think a major reason for the downfall of GT IMAX in India is that Big Hollywood Studios stopped sending film reels to India. Also to the fact that medium as a whole evolved to digital.
