    I really admire him being so open minded so he can learn from other sources. I've seen so many instructors over the last 30 years that think their way is the only way.

    Always looking to learn. That's what you want of any teacher. Martial Arts teachers have always either been reluctant to learn or reluctant to teach. So I applaud him for his efforts in researching.

    I loved the lady teacher. It's so great to watch, when men learn or teach martial arts there is always this thing in us to be better then others, the lady had no signs of competition, to prove herself or show that she knows better. Just plane joy of sharing her knowledge. I wish I could learn from her. 🙏🏻

    What is amazing is that martial arts can bridge the gaps between cultures. The Japanese and Chinese fought each other during the second world war. The arts can help overcome old hatreds.

    Karate is actually a form of Chinese martial arts. Okinawans invented it by combining Okinawan Te and Chinese boxing hence Kore Te. Then Japanese invaded Okinawa and then claimed Kore-te as their own and renamed it Karate for empty Hand. The original characters meant Chinese Okinawan Fist.

    • @irasac1
      @irasac1 6 років тому +1

      Vancouver Breakdancers it was influenced by chinese martial arts but most of was okinawan, and the influence vanished with time because they evolved differently, so stop with the bullshit

      Vancouver Breakdancers what is the meaning of Kore Te, if you don't mind explaining please. Kore in particular. This is the first time i have heard it called this. I was under the impression that it was Kara Te and that just the meaning and caracters changed, but the English stayed the same.

    • @bieneulm1982
      @bieneulm1982 5 років тому +1

      Karate has ever since been "kara" and "te". Before that the original okinawan martial art had been called Tode, or Okinawa-te. Furtherly this one had developed out of three different "schools" in Ryukyu (Okinawa): Tomari-te, Shuri-te and Naha-te.
      The original "kara" that´s been formerly used meant "china" so "Karate" had first been translated "The hand out of china" to honor the chinese influence that´s been a form of enrichment to the original Tode (Okinawa-Te).
      A Man from Okinawa, his name was Funakoshi Gichin, later on (in the 1920s i think) brought in the idea to replace "kara" with another kanji that´s also pronounced "kara" but means "empty". Thereby this martial art was renamed to "Empty hand" and with the addition of "Do" at its end it completes itself to "Karatedo" the so called "Way of empty hands".
      The Name we´re all used to is not a creation of the japanese, it was the creation of Master (Shihan?) Gichin Funakoshi. I mean it could have been that Funakoshi Sensei was trying to make "Karate" taste better for the japanese people when it sounded more japanese. He actually tried to express that karate needs to be a pure defense system, without any forms of armor or weapons included, even fights like the Kumite had been strictly permitted. That to fight is not to fight, that the only and biggest enemy in your life will be only you. But explaining the meaning of the "empty hand" and by that to explain the core of Karate-Do is the moment where it really gets complicated.

    The English says a Karate guy is learning Kung Fu, but the Japanese says that he is learning Tai Chi Chuan. Check it out yourself: 太極拳= Tai Chi Chuan (' Taikyokuken' is the Japanese pronunciation)
    空手=Karate
    功夫=Kung Fu ('kan fuu' in Japanese, commonly written in the Katakana script, カンフー)
    Bad translation is causing confusion as to what's really going on here!

      本来の剣はちゃんと厚みがあって、このようなしなる剣ではなかったらしい。表演がメインになって軽さと見栄えのためにこうなった。日本刀が竹刀になったのと似てる。ちなみに、剣についてる赤い房は飾りではなく、いろいろ実践に使えたとか。

      そもそも中国武術の多くは19世紀以降に発展した健康促進目的のものなので実戦向けでない(回族などで自衛の為に発展した武術は飛んだり跳ねたりせずシンプルで文字通り実戦的ですが)ですしね。
      中国武術の剣術なども当の中国人民すら認めるようにショー向けのもので実戦は考えていません。
      実戦的な剣術で有名なのは日本の愛洲陰流から派生した倭刀(日本刀)や苗刀を用いたものです。

    • @CitronCoffee
      @CitronCoffee 6 років тому +1

      sleepysheepy5963 同意なのだが、ショー化する近代以前の中国武術は、負ければ死ぬ時代の武術なので、どんなヘンテコな武器でも実戦しか視野に入れておらず命がけだったと思う。
      同じようなこととして、日本で、例えば鎖鎌などは今は実用性が疑われたりもするが、当時は至極真剣に鎌と分銅に生命を預けていたはず。
      それにしても苗刀は、『単刀法選』などみると、ほんとに元は陰流なのか疑問なくらい技法的に離れている気がする。
