    Either block, or slip, or move out of range. Or don't get too close until you're ready to cut the distance and fire.

  • @edvinas396
    @edvinas396 11 років тому +4

    I often fight with shorter guys and I can say that its a nightmare when oponent have strong block and always moves in. It takes too much energy. Also try to throw fast multiple light punthes, because when oponent throwing hard hoks i just have to move my head back and they looses balance.

    There are many ways to beat a clinch. The 2 easiest things I can think of is 1) to keep your distance. 2) is to comletely pass through him by going under his armpit and turn around so you're behind him.

    Hey Johnny! I sparred for the first time yesterday at the gym I'm 16 and about 5' 10 and my opponent is about 6'1 or so. I kept on slipping his jab and going straight to the body, after a while he got real protective of his body, later on in the fight, once he did that I seized the opportunity and threw a overhand right and stunned him then I kept working him the whole fight fight. Thanks for the tips my coaches were like "I didn't teach him that" Your tips helped me out allot!!!!

  • @expertboxing
    @expertboxing  11 років тому

    It all depends if you're trying to come in or not. If you're trying to come in, then yes, that means slipping to the left...if you go to the right, it means you're going around him and the fight will keep turning.

  • @STRYKERof9KnuckleStriking
    @STRYKERof9KnuckleStriking 11 років тому

    You must control the distance. Use subtle faints with your fists/guard, head, waist, legs, entire body &/or just with a mere look to the left but moving right. Misdirection my friend. Make him react to you not the other way around. You bait him. Flinch & faint in & out, left to right, up or down using your legs & quickly fire a counter balancing strike. Make sure your rear fist is on your chin & your elbow resting on your midsection like a shield. Your lead fist, your pawn in front of you.

    Thanks for your time making these vids...It was exactly like you said, dude was over-swinging, overreacting and I was killing him with body shots and long hooks...I'm 6 and he was at least 6'2.

    Of course it'll work. You just have to put the training in using the tips you found here, others that have been shared with you & the ones you learned indirectly. It's all about timing, so practice. Start off slow & firing as soon as you see a tell-tale sign (any evidence projecting a move). Gradually work your way up in smoothness of speed as your confidence grows. “I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who had practiced 1 kick 10,000 times.” -Bruce Lee

  • @expertboxing
    @expertboxing  11 років тому

    Mike Tyson's defense is only necessary if you have short arms and need to get really far inside. The average person is probably not going to be outreached by 12inches like Tyson was against other heavyweight. Which meannnnnnns...you can fire a lot sooner and don't need to hide behind your shell. You should attack as soon as you can get into range. If your arms are longer, you'll be in range faster, and won't need to shell up for as long.

    It means he is versatile with his hands, this gives him a good advantage over you... usually guys like this are tall and quick, that's what I'm guessing the guy you're sparring with is like, you've got to get closer and cover up, people with long arms will always hit you with a straight if you let them, if you get close and give them a mean right hook, it will lay them out, practice on getting your hooks mean and nasty with a lot of weight packed into them, he will struggle up close...

    if i could throw my 2 cents in i find it also quite effective if u use your left jab to constantly jab at hes left hand dereby negating hes left hand (while being outside hes danger range) and forcing him to use a right hand and slipping into it

    I noticed that you was slipping to your left in the vid when trying to slip the jab, you need to slip to the right, the outside of the punch so you don't get countered with a right cross. Just thought I would put that out there.

    Great videos! I took up boxing about a year ago and I've found these videos incredibly helpful. Do you recommend tying up a taller boxer to frustrate him? Do you have any videos on this. I am normally taller than my opponents but I have such a tough time with taller fighters. I feel like every time I get inside they are gone by the time I get there.

  • @Berttagg12
    @Berttagg12 11 років тому

    as far as walking inside on a taller fighter, i believe walking in with a high elbow, just like in your floyd mayweather video would be effective. what do you think johnny? Would that work?

  • @expertboxing

    Unfortunately bloody noses can have a lot to do with genetics. Some people bleed easily, other people don't. I was lucky enough that I never had a bloody nose no matter how hard I was hit (even by a heavy weight!).
    Warm-up your nose and use good defense.

    im 5'2 so yeah my arm reach isnt that much =/..the strat i had in mind was to jab and 1,2 so the opponent can cover up and i can dodge and slip my way inside and let loose w uppers and hooks..oh and im a southpaw btw idk if it makes any difference.

He's like 185 hits hard and really fast, but when I spar with him I really can't work on anything since he's longer stronger and faster sometimes I just need to block his punches he like throws me outta balance. Bro I had to sparr with a taller monster of a dude. Meaning he was just tall. He was 6'2 and my short ass is only 5'8 to 5'9. It was tought because he kept jabbing away at me. I felt I had to double on everything to keep him from jabbing back and I could at least get close to him. I ate some shots going in but was aiming for the body, than I got clean with a hook to the jaw.I sensed he was open although I did not look. He was worrying about me hitting him in the body. How do I stop eating shots?

    Hey guys I'm interested in trying boxing to improve my self defense and be in shape, I got here looking for how to last longer in boxing but could only find stuff about longer armed opponents. I'm not in the best shape yet because I'm just getting back into exercising playing soccer and basketball. Long story short I find boxing and fighting in general is really tiring, how can I last longer besides the obvious being in shape? How can I be more efficient with my energy for swings and dodges and stuff?

    • @shoibmahmood7030
      @shoibmahmood7030 9 років тому

      do interval training. condition yourself by working on a body part that gets tired very easily, like squats or box jumps if you're legs get tired, do triceps extensions or shoulder press if you're arms get tired. do bag work, pad work and speedball training to get the maximum efficiency out of your body.

    There's this really tall guy I spar with at my gym, and I always end up eating right hands coming inside after I slip his jab. Anyway to deal with this? should I try to be faster or roll under his right? Its like everyone keeps relying on there right hand too much and its annoying getting hit with them coming in all the time.

    • @expertboxing
      @expertboxing  10 років тому +1

      Peter Molyneux it has to do with WHEN and HOW you come in. It shouldn't be obvious that you're trying to come in or under. Stay back and wait a bit. Let him come to you..and thennnnnnnn come in.

    • @paulbadman8509
      @paulbadman8509 6 років тому

      Peter Molyneux do you slip his jab to the inside? If so, no surprise at all you get hit, slipping to the inside is riskier and requires more skill and speed to pull of without getting hit. If you slip to the outside and you get hit with the cross, then you are most likely getting timed big time. How to stop that? Well, when going against 1-2 you slip the jab and then you weave under his cross. Also, don’t listen to this guy, footwork is absolutely necessary to have on point if you want to get into the pocket - don’t overcommit or it will tire you up, but neither underutilize it or you become too stationary and predictable.
      Good luck!👍🏻

      FranskPlays don’t slip to the inside. And no matter if you do it or not, always punish the guy after slipping and weaving. Also, try to squat with your knees and keep torso straight rather than your torso leaning forward when slipping and weaving - too much exposure.

IT WAS A BITCH!!. not only he was taller than me, and had longer reach. but he had AMAZING FOOTWORK. and that made the fight a million times harder! i tried to cut off the ring the best i could but homeboy was WAY TOO QUICK. long story short. when you have a taller fighter that can box AND have footwork. it is very FRUSTRATING to deal with.
