0:21 "...but that's okay, I'm still gonna claim it was my idea, since I do have more traffic on my channel." hahaha At least you're honest Chef John. haha
My folks got me a cask iron skillet last Christmas and I've been making deep dish pizzas and pies every so often. Last week I made a awesome deep dish but had extra dough leftover after trimming the edge of the skillet. I ended up making something just like this. I took extra pepperoni slices, a teaspoon of sauce and a bit of mozzarella and rolled it up into something that was the size of a dinner roll. I'm gonna turn my next pizza into something like this!!! Fantastic vid man.
I would bake bread because it would always remind me of my Nana who used to bake fresh bread every day. I'm so glad you made something to give you comfort Chef John. ❤️
I really appreciate that you show us what a chef does when there's virtually nothing left in the house. Do more of these, I'm in this situation a LOT. Also your photoshop skillz are out of this world. 10/10
I love you so much chef John :"))) Your way of improvising, not wasting any food and most of all, your awesome sense of humor :'))) And I'm not forgetting your amazing talent to make such dishes :'D Definitely gonna keep this for future cooking!! Stay awesome!!
I don't know about now if it's still done there, but many years ago when I lived in Portugal when I (and others) had the chance we would buy bread that was baked with Chourico (Chorizo) inside. So delicious, specially when it was still hot.
Looks delicious. This is a version of Stromboli, although I doubt you will ever hear that name in Italy. I have used frozen bread dough to make a similar thing. So many different things could be added. I try to make what would be a delicious sandwich and add pizza sauce or marinara. I've used spaghetti sauce, too.
A long time ago when my son was having a birthday party, I followed the steps up to when it was rolled up. Then I cut it into one an half inches pieces and baked them as cinnamon buns.
I just made this, and it was fantastic. I even greased up parchment paper so that I could do up a gluten-free version of the dough for my partner and it turned out really well. With a tomato salad and some cucumbers it was pretty awesome. The tomato sauce turned out brilliant after cooking with the cheese and salami. I wasn't expecting that.
I just made this! but instead of salami I use sauteed ground beef & onion plus bolognese sauce, then fried them. and my god it was one of the most amazing bread I've ever had in my life.
yet another culinary triumph, one day you'll make something I won't like but it's not today. making something out of nothing is a favorite pastime of mine. great job chef.
I think I love you lol What a great combo. Frying the bread.... pure genius. Adding the fried egg and salad.... a masterpiece. I love making simple Italian dough bc there's so much you can do with it. :o)
This is an inspiring idea. Unfortunately, I have almost none of the listed ingredients on hand today...so, I'm thinking I'll do Biscuit dough (because the leavening on hand is baking powder, not yeast) Crushed cherry tomato/basil/balsamic sauce (will have to make this, too) Roasted chicken (leftover from last night) Extra sharp cheddar (would not normally cook this cheese, since it loses its sharpness after cooking, but it's what I have) I *do* have salad & eggs. Viola! A dinner win. Thank you for the inspiration! I'm ready for dinner already!! ;)
I'm a new fan, and I must admit I can watch your videos ALL day. Great recipes, presented in a fun and interesting way. Your voice is soothing and great as well. Keep em coming, Chef John!
The reason I subscribed to you, aside from how delicious all the recipes were, is that one of the first videos I watched you said "around the outside, around the outside, around the outside." With that, it made this my favourite recipe channel and the only one I'm subscribed to :)
Very creative, Chef -- kind of a French baguette version of calzone. Your right about the utility value of a bench scraper. I made one by cutting the lid of a round, food-safe plastic container in half. I filled the bucket with soil and planted some parsley.
1. i just love how fresh grated parmesan relaxes. 2. need some black parmesan for topping the scar bread, with the whole wheat, i imagine it will look like arm hair. 3. HOLY CRAP the crustini! we get pepperoni bread around here (philly area) all the time. rarely do we not finish it, but this is a great idea for any leftovers.
This is so easy and freaking delicious! I made handmade dough anyways and had too much left over so I made 3 mini breads: one with the ingredients shown in the video; one with garlic, baby spinach and feta and one with paprika, olives, dried tomatoes and mozzarella! Soooooo good! Really easy, really tasty, with a nice big mixed salad perfect as a light dinner or really good as an addition to barbecue! Thank you so much! Great!
My favorite thing about this recipe and video is how it was made on the fly! This was made with what was simply in the kitchen. Something must be fundamentally wrong with me as I seriously can't follow a recipe. Any time I'm in the kitchen, I'm improvising with what I have on hand!
Oh wow, this is a great idea, I may have to make one of these with the left over pulled pork we made during the Memorial Day weekend. That should make fantastic stuffed bread, or maybe use some shrimp and crabmeat.....Will definitely have to try this recipe. Great video Chef.
its the same reason the shoe makers kids run around barefoot. The carpenters wife never gets her dream home finished, The auto mechanic always drives a junk car.
Did something similar with a piece of Port Salut and some home-made smoked Garlic/Green pepper/Elk salami I had lyin' around a few weeks back, man it was wonderful!
you get a prescription for marijuana recently or something? This is like something I would make in college with some refrigerator scraps in the middle of the night
Congratulations on your new cooking invention, look really nice! Just mention that this is no actually sobrasada, as sobrasada y tipical from mallorca and its a kind of pate of chorizo. What you are using today its salchichon. Its a dry age sausage with peper corn inside. A bit similar, but not quite the same.

the intonation of your voice is unique
I think we should all take a moment to recognize Chef John for all the food he has transferred to Iraq over the years. Every little bit helps.
What do you mean?

oh wow I can't believe I missed that! lol
+Adam C. I don't get it
someday
"Virtually vegetarian."
I love you, Chef John!
These video's have this weird hypnotizing effect on me. If I watch a video, I always end up staying and watching at least 5 more.
5:33 Your inner Homer Simpson came and in the words of Chef John, it just added to the awesomeness.
😂👍
Chef John is my spirit animal.
0:21 "...but that's okay, I'm still gonna claim it was my idea, since I do have more traffic on my channel." hahaha
At least you're honest Chef John. haha
Screw polls, etc. YOU really are the king of UA-cam chefs/cooks. From simple to sophisticated, you do it all. Keep up the good work. Thank you!
Ahhh the relaxing and soothing sounds of Chef John and an amazing yet simple recipe! My day is complete.

Me súper encantan tus recetas, no entiendo tu idioma pero son tan bien explicadas que eso y mi experiencia bastan. Mil gracias 😘👍🏼

3:07 is that a Eminem reference?
It's Malcolm McLaren - Buffalo Gals. Eminem just referenced it.

a true chef can make a meal with very few ingredients. I applaud you Chef!
wow supringly a recipe without cayenne
My family always has a sandwich buffet on Christmas Eve. This is definitely going to be my contribution this year.
Thank you for saying "around the outside" three times at 3:07, Chef John! I thought you'd never do that again. You have restored my faith in you.
A long time ago when my son was having a birthday party, I followed the steps up to when it was rolled up. Then I cut it into one an half inches pieces and baked them as cinnamon buns.

Wow, the possibilities are endless, you definitely got me thinking. Thanks.
"Around the outside, around the outside, around the outside". Ahhh...comforting neurotic repetition, my day is complete. Thanks Chef, Good night :D
It's a song reverence : )

"oops I missed my mouth".. chef john you're too much lol
This episode was one of the main reasons I'm subscribed. The comedy in here is fantastic, and tasteful. As well as the food being tasteful.
I think I love you lol What a great combo. Frying the bread.... pure genius. Adding the fried egg and salad.... a masterpiece. I love making simple Italian dough bc there's so much you can do with it. :o)
Yes, but does he even lift, bro?
Lift what? Weights? Who cares? He can cook lol
+Tonithenightowl He can cook... But can he even lift. You mad, bro?
I'm a 63 yr old grandmother you're going to have to explain yourself. I have no idea what you're talking about.:o)
How versatile. You can use all kinds of leftovers in this one, for lunch the next day. Fabulous. TY

Who has the best YT cooking show?
You do, sir.
What a great cook as usual!! That looks so easy and tasty.
I don't even have to make it. I enjoy it by just watching you make it!

I've tried various recipes from your channel and they all work and taste amazing. Thank you!
Chef John, just made this. Waiting until the morning to try it. I can't wait.
And when you thought this couldn't get any better... BAM! chef John fries it in a pan and makes it a salad.
I feel so much respect for you, sir.
Sometimes the most simple things, are the most delicious! Looks really good Chef John
Ooh goey egg adds to any meal. That whole meal looks delicious.
Looks really good and great idea for the salad and egg!

I enjoy your videos, awesome demonstration. You have a great sense of humor. You should be on Food Network they could use a boost in their ratings.
you get a prescription for marijuana recently or something? This is like something I would make in college with some refrigerator scraps in the middle of the night
He's probably still reeling from his mum passing away, man

I think he means it is something he would make when having the munchies :)
Ok. Good for you. Invite me to dinner sometime. You must be a good cook.
