Why does nobody think that the price difference is amazing as well for similar specs? I am seeing 50% - 100% difference in price for similar specs and even more when you upgrade ram/ssd. That is outrageous, people are so numb to Apple pricing these days.
@@nics129 Previously, we all know MacBooks were expensive, it wasn't even a debate. Now, people justify the crazy price tag and some even think they are cheap for what they get. Note, the M1 Air/Pro prices were great, those 2 are exceptions.
Apple writes their own OS, design their own chips provide great returns and warranty, etc., other manufacturers only put component togethers and slap a copy of windows on it. The difference in price is minimal in the eyes of one that has money to buy a professional device. The specs are actually not similar no matter how you spin it. The Mac only use 30-90w of power to do everything where all the other laptops will push 120w-165w to get similar performance. In term of warranty, I could bring a faulty MacBook in any apple store and they will give me another one within 1 day. Try to do the same with another brand.
@@seashellwanderers456 Using less power is pretty cool but it does not add much value to consumers. The ProRes accelerator is great for video editing but it is completely useless for anything else. I mostly use Redshift render and Houdini for my work, but I'm also on the lookout for a powerful laptop that can handle these software applications. Do you have any idea how well these programs perform on laptops? Thanks, mate! That video was awesome!
diffrence is that you can do more with the Asus when doing editing, CUDA, C++ , Graphics , and video stuff with no bottle necks. Mac is Apple and we all know what that means, stay in Cocoa or some weird API , wont be able to game, wont be able to enable fan , wont be able to edit harsware configurations. The Zepherus knows its low battery so they decided to include extra features and treat you as a person when something is not working. Plus the Zepherus all included costs half of a macbook pro m1 max.
I feel like there's not enough of an emphasis on fan noise + battery life as a combined package, because I think those two things are pricelessly better than saving a bit of money. That extra money you save isn't going to matter if you need to get things done and you forget your charger. Maybe you always have your charger on hand - well the fan noise of the Zephyrus is IMO going to be a miserable experience for the lifetime of the device while the Macbook Pro is comfortably quiet. I say this as someone who was issued a fully specced out HP ZBook Studio G7 (MSRP $3600) for Solidworks and the fan noise, battery life, and constantly hot thermals drive me insane.
I can't be the only person more concerned about a lack of screen flex? The harder a screen, the more brittle and at risk it is to damage without having any give
If gaming was something that figured into my decision then Apple would not be a player, but since gaming is not what drives ME the Apple M1 MacBooks, though much more expensive, are better particularly on battery. I have yet to order but plan on getting an M1 Max 16 inch with 64GB RAM and 2TB storage in Space Gray. The performance advantage in the tasks that matter to me and the fact it can do it on battery and nearly silently are the deciding factors.
One thing that people don't mention is that once you buy a macbook (even if it's a big investment) then it's easier to upgrade to the next model because apple takes your older model as a part of payment
There's also the pure resale value of it. I sold my late 2011 Macbook Pro for $325 just a few months ago. It never gave me any problems but the M1s came out and I figured it was time for an upgrade. You can't even get $350 for a 2017 Razer Blade. That's just the state of gaming laptops. So yeah, you can save money up front, but you end up losing that in the long run anyhow. People just look at MSRP like that's all there is to it. Also, if you want to game, why are you on a laptop? It's a nightmare to deal with. Thermals are super important and yet people keep forgetting about that. I tried a G15 and they're nice. I love the keyboard, it's got a nice assortment of ports, decent screen, great value. However, they run really hot and if you're going to use them for gaming, as intended, you're going to realize that really quick. So yeah, are they better for gaming? Of course. Apple isn't try to make gaming laptops. So you shouldn't be buying an Apple for that anyhow. However, if you're gonna game, just get a PC and get all the benefits of that choice instead of acting like you're gonna be gaming on the bus with your heavy, hot, and loud gaming laptop.
@@THE_BEAR_JEW Gaming laptops are more capable than ever. Thermals with high spec hardware is exponentially more efficient and the trend is leaning towards portable workstations a la apple that are also capable of gaming, which certainly threatens apple's monopoly. That is why gaming laptops lose their value so quickly, it indicates the rate of advancement that occurs in them with each new release. With apple, their developments are slow and incremental so their values don't fluctuate that much, and their users tend to not pay attention to whats under the hood. No one likes having to lug around a huge computer tower, at the end of the day. Having it all in one is where things are heading.
When it comes to Video Editing The M1 only edges out the M16 by a bit. While The Zephyrus M16 obliterates when it comes to 3D Rendering, Gaming, and more complex Digital Art.
You can do creating stuff in M16, and for most people you are plugged all the time. And the most reason to choice is you can upgrade. Pay for 2tb ssd and 32 GB in macbook and you will see. But mini led screen is so amazing that I will preffer macbook, what this year Asus bet all in this!!!
i just bought an m16 a second device to my macbook pro 13. i must say for a 13” the mbp speakers are no comparison to asus lol but one can game the other can’t.
It really doesn't make sense to me why you would compare performance of these *off* of outlet power instead of *on* . On-charger, with full wall-outlet power, truly compares both laptops at the peaks of everything they are capable of achieving. Otherwise the performance analyses and observations in comparison of the two actually seems frankly disingenuous or unreliable from that point on to me, and I have to just click off and look for a different review for the reasons I mentioned.
i mean i get what you're saying, if anything i say compare both, but how is the point of a laptop not to not have to be plugged in? like just get a desktop then?

Those battery life stats are 2x to nearly 3x in Apple's favor while it performs at full power and silently! As a portable computer for multimedia work, there's no contest! If gaming is a must and you prefer Windows platform, or you budget is limited then M16 is yours.
The problem I've run into working for a video editing agency is that those numbers are not when the Macbook is under full load and doing graphic intensive work such as heavy colour grading and motion graphics - putting it closer to about 3 hours of battery with 4K video editing - which is still great for getting full performance, but still closes the gap by quite a bit.

@@RunForPeace-hk1cu the 3070 will easily demolish the 8 core 14 GPU core binned M1 Pro. Also, if they are buying a 3070 I’m willing to beat they need that graphic horsepower. So while the Base MBP14 is technically cheaper, they aren’t really in the same class for raw pure performance.
@@ucanthavemyname9802 that’s true, they aren’t in the same class. Especially if they both run on battery power.
Not sure why the M16 is that expensive. The 15 inch which has 3070 is only $1550 on BestBuy.

Yeah, both of them will perform well :)

Hey, I just got the M16 a couplle of weeks ago....It's perfectly fine but I am scared of the thermals it's showing while I'm playing some games like Apex legends and Warzone. It's hitting up 85-90, but I'm facing no issues in performance though....should I undervolt or try changing the thermal paste ? pls help me out
Hey, what are frames like on Apex? Also, are you using GeForce now?
@@handsoffmypp I get around 150 frames on Apex. I use GeForce now too. I mean it's just there. I don't use it for recording and stuff but I don't turn it off
Under volt it (to reduce temps) with a slight over clock (to keep up performance)
Hi, does the heat blow into the screen too? I'm mainly afraid to buy the M16 because of the heat and the screen could be damaged from it.
@@HydraStar01 It does and I get scared often but it's fine since the heat from the screen itself is much hotter than what blows on the screen. I got to know this from reading a lot of stuff from other articles.
Both great laptops but MBP price will double if you want the same specs of ROG Zephyrus.
Why does nobody think that the price difference is amazing as well for similar specs? I am seeing 50% - 100% difference in price for similar specs and even more when you upgrade ram/ssd. That is outrageous, people are so numb to Apple pricing these days.
These days? Apple have these kind of price vs pc for decades. It is just now that they actually have more than a few advantages on hardware
The display and speaker and battery are also pretty great but then I don't think those are worth $1500 extra. Sure the MacBook QA and reliability are great but then the M1 chips are still new and lack software support/adoption that might or might not come while most software will run fine on the Intel/AMD/NVIDIA. The ProRes accelerator is great for video editing but it is completely useless for anything else.
MacBook price-to-performance is terrible especially when you get more ram/ssd, while many windows alternative allows you to upgrade for 1/3, 1/4 the cost of MacBooks upgrades. It is expensive guys just wake up and look at the facts, not hype.
Because you want to put apple in better light.
Apple is using 5nm chip vs i9 10 nm chip.
Intel i9 on 5nm would destroy M1max by far.
2:10 the new versions of the zephyrus lineup all have webcams, just wanted to let you know that
Also: I do NOT recommend to get the 2021 m16 if you don't want to use a cooling pad, it has huge thermal issues to a point where sometimes the fans can't keep up and the laptop repeatedly shuts down even if you just do basic tasks. They solved that problem with the 2022 version though so if you want an m16 definitely go with this one.
how about g14 and g15 bro? are they had same thermal issues?
@@emo137 Nope, it was because of the Intel cpu which didn't get proper cooling
I'm torn betwewn 2022 m16 3060 and 2022 G14 with 6800s or 6700s. 6800s being a bit more expensive but 6700s is slightly less expensive than the m16 2060.
@@christmasisawesome9348I now have the same choice. What was your decision? Can you recommend something?
I have a feeling that Apple have probably paid Geekbench lol.

Zephyrus g14 16GBRAM - RTX 3080 Or Macbook Air M1 - 16GBRAM ???? Considering the Air, because de Battery. We're not gamers, but do a lot of Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier, a Little bit AF, and sometimes some 3D asset in Blender (blender not so importnt.
What do you think???
Hey, thanks for the cool video! I'm a 3D motion designer and I've got this sweet workstation with two Nvidia 3090 graphics cards that I use for rendering. I mostly use Redshift render and Houdini for my work, but I'm also on the lookout for a powerful laptop that can handle these software applications. Do you have any idea how well these programs perform on laptops? Thanks, mate! That video was awesome!
I use a micro-SD with an adaptor in my cameras to save weight and space.
diffrence is that you can do more with the Asus when doing editing, CUDA, C++ , Graphics , and video stuff with no bottle necks.
The harder a screen, the more brittle and at risk it is to damage without having any give
yup its true
Needs correction on some slides for M16 - 5900hs instead of 11900h
Yeah! That was my major oversight.
Super fast edit this morning. :-/
The performance advantage in the tasks that matter to me and the fact it can do it on battery and nearly silently are the deciding factors.
get a m1 pro base or 1 tb ssd. It should suffice for 99.9 % of users
no gameplay test??

Why do you have g15 links on an m16 review lol

If gaming is a must and you prefer Windows platform, or you budget is limited then M16 is yours.
The problem I've run into working for a video editing agency is that those numbers are not when the Macbook is under full load and doing graphic intensive work such as heavy colour grading and motion graphics - putting it closer to about 3 hours of battery with 4K video editing - which is still great for getting full performance, but still closes the gap by quite a bit.
