Love living vicariously through your vlogs. I’ve been thinking of commenting for a while now that a content idea for you might be some sort of sports psychology session or interview to give you some tools on how to set aside the negativity. There were some good ideas in this video including Cam’s idea to make a list for your own self evaluation and Em’s idea to limit your time allowed on negative thoughts. Another idea I came across when I used to dive (another individual sport with fear components) is to visualize negative thoughts like cars and to picture parking them until later. The idea is that it can be difficult to get rid of them entirely so instead you tell your brain you’ll come back to it later and then you can focus on positive visualization of your course or test.
Ooooo thank you that sounds like a really good idea too. I am definitely going to seek some help with this too as it’s a viscous circle of thinking your ok and then something triggering it to spiral again. Em and Cam were super helpful too tho!! They definitely assisted in me massively enjoying the whole weekend (well aside from the first course walk lol!!)Xx
Just a huge loss of self belief and confidence since 2018 for no particular reason but we are overcoming it slowly but surely it comes in blips, generally when other things in life wear me down I think, so at least I’m recognising it and learning how to deal with it xx

Watching this made me a bit emotional! You can so see how much your hard work is paying off! That show jumping round was so positive and forward (even with the flying lesson!) it was just amazing 😍 and then Banksy looked like he was having an absolute ball xc! He made it look easy 🙌 Huge well done xx
That was some seriously good riding on your part. Not many people could’ve lost a strirrup after a bobble in the first half of a show jumping combination, then jumped the second element without a stirrup, plus being a little behind the motion, and kept their position like that, Then finish up the course without time faults. I was so impressed.
Emily's tip about the 5 minute timer for dwelling/worrying is something I do all the time! You and Banksy did really well, and it does look like a great time.
@@LifeontheLeftRein Yes! I usually also have a plan of what I'm going to do after my timer is up to make sure that I stop dwelling. Whether that's physically getting up and task switching, or going to play a game or something else that occupies my brain. Basically just making sure that I have something else to think about instead so I can't just slip back into the negative.
To everyone who finds it difficult to think positively, I highly recommend dressage rider Jessica von Bredow Werndl’s autobiography Heaven on Horseback. Very enlightening and has changed my attitude to life. It’s all about taking control of your positivity and ultimately your destiny. Each new day is a new start, a new chance and staying positive is so important, even though it can sometimes be hard! Simples!
Emotional watching this vlog!! You and Banksy tried your so hard even though there were faults I think this was one of the best SJ and Cross Country rounds ever. All those lessons with King Cam have paid off. I’m so glad you didn’t retire, as Banksy was jumping amazingly xx

Hard to change our thinking but worth it - when you understand the neuroscience of the brain (Dr Tara Swart is excellent at this) we can optimise training it!

Mindset changes the minute you start taking lessons to improve your riding - You want to do well you don’t want to disappoint your instructor and you do get deeply disappointed when the wheels come off you stop having fun and you start beating yourself up and more and more goes wrong ! it happens to everyone the difference is some can step away with the knowledge of how to “fix” things as you go and others get flustered and panic - don’t put pressure on yourself to do well, you won’t there’s too much going through your mind not a good idea to have a lesson before the event and as much as you say you are not competitive you actually are! Don’t think just ride and enjoy focus on objectives to be met for example - dressage: achieve a straight entry x country : jump the fence that you are most worried about. S jumping : ride forward Onwards and upwards 😁

I had such a hard dressage lesson today on my new horse and I HATE my upper body in it ugh, I know it’s getting better but I’m stuck in jumper mode and I need to be in dressage mode

It's very healthy to have the sort of mindset that you don't mind if you make it or not. My dream is to be able to event one day just to show my parents that I can do it, when they didn't understand my struggles with adhd as a kid
So glad you’ve got Em. She really has you taped. Banks jumped like a pro around that xc and your job is simply to stick with him. You beam joy and love, take that feeling into your rounds and you’ll be a winner every time. Well done girl.

Knowing you’ve been struggling a little bit with confidence, I think this was lovely. The stressage test was good, he had a lovely trot on the mid line, carrying himself well and overall I think it’s the best I have seen you do since I started following you. Showjumping, you were both brave, he saved you and you stayed on and continued like a champ. He really jumped well, very high over most of the fences. For the cross country, you’re my hero. You smashed it! You have done massive progress this last year!! Be proud and continue the good work.
That has to.of been the bestest eventing weekend. Not been bias as its my local event and the frikkers event organisers know how to throw an epic event. Not bias lol you had an amazing support 💜 you've no excuse now .. no more tears xxxx

Did you only have one judge? i did the NQ90 at firle place and we had two judges for our test 😳 I also did the 100 at Frickley, it most definitely felt like a novice course 😂

Mindset changes the minute you start taking lessons to improve your riding - You want to do well you don’t want to disappoint your instructor and you do get deeply disappointed when the wheels come off you stop having fun and you start beating yourself up and more and more goes wrong ! it happens to everyone the difference is some can step away with the knowledge of how to “fix” things as you go and others get flustered and panic - don’t put pressure on yourself to do well, you won’t there’s too much going through your mind not a good idea to have a lesson before the event and as much as you say you are not competitive you actually are!
Don’t think just ride and enjoy focus on objectives to be met for example - dressage: achieve a straight entry x country : jump the fence that you are most worried about. S jumping : ride forward

I had such a hard dressage lesson today on my new horse and I HATE my upper body in it ugh, I know it’s getting better but I’m stuck in jumper mode and I need to be in dressage mode
Don’t dwell on it 😘 try and find 3 positives from the session and focus on those xx

Cam’s idea of writing goals for each phase is brilliant! Such a shame that you got the 20 penalties - but it’s fantastic that you didn’t let it get to you and have come out more confident! Excited for more Eventing vlogs - absolutely love them!!

I feel like the pole down in the jumping would have thrown you off a bit in the past but you just moved on and didn’t let it get to you. It's very healthy to have the sort of mindset that you don't mind if you make it or not. My dream is to be able to event one day just to show my parents that I can do it, when they didn't understand my struggles with adhd as a kid

Knowing you’ve been struggling a little bit with confidence, I think this was lovely. The stressage test was good, he had a lovely trot on the mid line, carrying himself well and overall I think it’s the best I have seen you do since I started following you. Showjumping, you were both brave, he saved you and you stayed on and continued like a champ. He really jumped well, very high over most of the fences. For the cross country, you’re my hero. You smashed it! You have done massive progress this last year!! Be proud and continue the good work.

Did you only have one judge? i did the NQ90 at firle place and we had two judges for our test 😳 I also did the 100 at Frickley, it most definitely felt like a novice course 😂
Yep only 1 which surprised me as at Bicton Qualifiers last October we had a judge at E aswell xx
