If you are looking for a singer that is going to show you every tool in her bag on every song she sings, then Angelina is not your girl. I think this throws off some people because they have become used singers doing this in talent shows over the years. I suppose this is needed if you are trying to judge a singer's complete skill set with one song, but it is not art, it is just vocal athletics. Angelina creates art. She only uses what is needed to convey the emotion of any given song. She's not trying to show you what she can do. She is trying to make you understand and feel the song.

I agree with you, but I don't think she's looking for anything, it's just a sum of hard grammatical structure of the native language + difficulty expressing surprise with the observed genius + greater difficulty expressing emotions in English = confusing and contradictory narrative. She's an interesting person, but she got lost...

I make this comment at my peril as I view you as THE expert on AJ's career and for whom I have the greatest respect. I'm not really disagreeing. I've followed her since the beginning of 2020 after seeing her version of Bohemian Rhapsody. The prodigy / genius aspect of her talent has always been her ability to interpret the essence of music and to express the emotional content through her arrangements and the ability to incorporate the emotion in her voice (or whole body for that matter). At age 7 she knew what emotions she wanted to convey, and did so well beyond her years. While even at 7 she had incredible vocal talent, the limitations are sometimes observed, and vocal coaches will note both the genius and "imperfections," with Elizabeth Zharoff a prime example in her reaction to AJ's cover of Mr. Hawkins "... Spell...".
AJ is now at the point where she can do anything with her voice she wishes with no physical limitations. Her more recent covers show that. For example, her version of Crazy with Egil at the guitar when she was 12 (?) was the best I had ever heard, until her recent TikTok version which is sensational. The same with her Instagram (I think) version of "My Funny Valentine," as compared to her earlier version at age 10 or 11. in both cases she had the similar arrangements and technique, and the latest versions exhibited a level of execution that are perfection and better than any version by anyone ever.
So, it is entirely reasonable for a reactor to acknowledge the musical genius in interpreting a song and little imperfections that arise simply by not having fully developed physically.

@@foghorn90leghorn73 My comment was not meant as a criticism of the reaction (as I see many are doing). I know that sometimes people (especially vocal coaches) are looking for all the pure tones, and belts, and runs, and "money notes" in order to assess what a singer is capable of. I was just pointing out that those things are not really what Angelina is all about. Her "special" comes from her ability to express emotion in such a natural way.
If someone is attempting to judge her from a purist standpoint, they could probably point to many things that could be "fixed"... her pronunciation, her unique timing, her enunciation.... these are all things that a standard vocal coach would try to correct. ....but these are precisely the things that give her vocals all that "soul" we love. You can see this vocal coach's own internal struggle with this conflict at about 2:55 here. She says, "there is such a soul in this", but then also lists some things that could be worked on. In my own opinion (knowing nowhere near as much about singing as this person), is that the more stuff you "work on", the less soul it will have.
...but again, my comment was not meant as a criticism to this reactor. Quite the opposite really.

Wow! This public appearance in a national televised singing competition was a first for this 7 year old girl. Let me emphasise that phrase for you... THIS PUBLIC APPEARANCE IN A NATIONAL SINGING COMPETITION WAS A FIRST FOR THIS 7 YEAR OLD GIRL! My point here is that this girl performed for the first time (this was her audition appearance) on a national stage and knew that it would be televised.
The song that Angelina chose was unusual for a young child. It was a jazz/swing song that was sung by a singer considered to be a master of her art. Billie Holiday can be heard singing the same song here: ua-cam.com/video/KUCyjDOlnPU/v-deo.html and you cannot help noticing Angelina Jordan's presentation. She was heavily influenced by what she heard and she honoured the Billie Holiday version. Angelina had said in an interview that if there was no Billie Holiday, there would have been no Angelina Jordan.
Not listening to the preamble and interchange between the panel of judges Angelina... then not listening to the commentary of the panel of judges after Angelina's performance, is to do yourself a disservice. You are working with only what you know from your own experience and that bubble you inhabit has nothing to say about the four panel judges who may well be music specialists in their own right. What follows is the whole audition including the judging panel commentary and English subtitles so you can follow how the audition was regarded by several people familiar with music. ua-cam.com/video/2da7N6ADm9s/v-deo.html
Other vocal coaches have commented on a large number of Angelina's musical works. I will link a few that are relevant to this assessment of your own. My feeling is that it felt brutal, not because of it being factual because I think we would all prefer to learn what you bring to the table. The brutality has arisen from the standard you applied in your commentary. e.g. Talking about a fault when Angelina started to sing. It must be obvious that she is not a professional singer and that is not an appropriate standard to apply when this was her first public appearance.
You did not take any notice of the fact that the song was jazz (it is not common for children of this age to attempt to reproduce the complex interplay of notes which jazz demands) nor did you note the subject matter. Once again, this is not a normal cheerful song that you would expect from a 7 year old child. Do your own seven year old pupils sing jazz? Other vocal coaches and professional musicians and singers have said interesting things about Angelina and they all overlooked some issues that are age and experience related. The last link is to Angelina and Billie singing together. It gives a great sense of how accurate Angelina's timing and pitch was.

I think you should listen to about 30 more different songs from Angelina at various ages. You may then gain some additional insight into the way this vocal chameleon approaches her songs and her singing. It may also change your approach to your assessment of her singing. Other songs she has sang have attracted the attention of many highly gifted vocal coaches and it is interesting to hear all of them say similar things about Angelina but they say these things in many varied and individual ways.
You may be surprised to discover that Angelina arranges her own music and has done since the age of about 8 years of age. She plays several instruments and has raised a lot of money for charities and has sung at Nobel prize ceremonies. She is as comfortable singing unaccompanied (there is a great a capella song in this competition) as she is stripped down with a single musician playing or with a full symphony orchestra. She can sing in any genre and she has many voices and styles. Keep listening to her songs and try to remember that you are listening to a prodigy. Her apparent mistakes in her singing will later reveal themselves as deliberate choices to accord with her artistic vision and integrity.

I have an insight into this type of assessment. I think the focus of analysis should be light and conscious because we are talking about a 7-year-old girl. At first she was nervous, visible in her voice! Real analysis but absolutely unnecessary, because the question to be observed is the opposite, which girl is this that enters with all this confidence, sure of herself, where she is and where she wants to go! What is this ability at this age to perceive the nuances of the original artist's interpretation? Of course, there are inconsistencies here and there, but the end result, in age, in occasion and in the fact that she faces everything with an open heart and courage is great merit, not to mention how many children sing with that quality at this age in a non-native language. ? The journey shows the evolution of excellence, starting at an impressive level, always evaluating the circumstances!!

I think you missed the essence of this performance. I heard no indication that you understood Angelina was recreating Billie Holiday’s classic blues song. The emotion, the vocal slides, the vibrato, the low register-from a seven year old in her first public performance before judges and a live audience. Your standard seems to be to compare this performance against vocal perfection without much acknowledgement of her age or her ability to recreate a specific style from 70 or 80 years ago. It’s not a matter of whether your specific criticisms were accurate-it’s that you seemed to feel the need to diminish the performance by overemphasizing the “weaknesses” of an extremely young child. Not to mix metaphors here, but this is a case of the reviewer being tone deaf to an absolutely amazing performance by a seven year old.

Yeah she is super cute. The way she carried herself, her reactions to the judges and the yes. Even climbing up on the chair for the interview before hand. But for sure she almost always leaves more to be desired as far as potential of the voice. Guess she leaves us wanting more on purpose often times. Though she also clearly wants to show her artistry and her take on a song without overwhelming us with power. In this one, listening to the original makes it sound even better actually, she nailed it. It was supposed to be sung like that. But I felt the same way before I heard it, noted the musicality and feel, wondered if she chose the wrong song to show off her voice though. But now I instead just appreciate the voice, musicality and feel all even more than i did in this the first time. Of course the thing here, even without knowing the original, is not that 7 year olds can't sing more powerfully, it's that none have ever sung that artistically. None understood singing like she did there at that age.
But hey agreed to an extent. Her 'my funny valentine' cover from this February is maybe the most beautiful thing I've ever heard, but she just teases so hard with a tid bit of power amongst a couple minutes of artistic genius. It will almost piss you off if it wasn't entirely incredible. Her voice is way too good now, her skills and artistry, it all just only gets more and more otherworldly. If you want power you want more recent Adel covers or I'd rather go blind at 12. Or her original 'million miles' at 14 maybe, that she wrote for her late grandpa and it has a perfect studio version. I seemingly prefer those songs, her power belts and insane techniques, yet it's the rest of her stuff that gives me the feeling she is already the best ever for some reason I don't understand.

    Great reaction!
As Angelina evolved her singing, heavily influenced by Jazz greats as Billy Holiday and always through her own direction & choosing, she should be viewed through that lense.
The seven year old AJA-genius, will never "wow" the perfect voice cravers.
The seven year old Angelina, will however, display a deep connection & emotional awareness in her art.
I guess most of us can perfect something through rigorous training.
Many child prodigies, especially in the classical genre, have perfected their vocal (or other) instrument, but they still have a long way to go to be able to feel the music and to transmit that feeling to their audience.
It is this advanced and sophisticated musical understanding that sets AJA apart, from the earliest age of six and seven years and until today aged 16.
And when it comes to perfecting her vocal instrument, her development was, as many have commented - lightning fast.

When she performed “What a Difference a Day Makes” shortly after she won NGT, it was undeniable that we were watching a prodigy.

And I appreciate that you paused to formulate your thoughts before vocalizing them.. words, unfortunately, cannot be erased. It's obvious you have very high standards, but it may have helped, at least myself, if you'd provided what your expectations are of a 7yr old?
I heard her imperfections and considered them a pair of little lungs trying to add more power that just isn't quite yet developed... I heard a little girl who had the lyrics memorized, the ability to apply nuance and emotions very well. If you want to continue reacting to her, enjoying the huge response to your first reaction and it's impact on your numbers, then in the same manner as you give your assessment of her talent and performances, expect that you'll receive in kind, the same.

Hope to see you again, there's no reason why you shouldn't express what you want, just ensure you're able to accept comments that don't apply, just know that the same applies to those who watch and listen... Hi Linor. Thank you for taking the time to react to Angelina. Frankly, I question the wisdom of the organisers in putting a 7-year-old as the last contestant. The endless wait - just to perform for a few minutes - would be unbearable for most adults, let alone a child. So, despite the technically less than perfect performance, kudos to Angelina for the sheer dedication to her craft and having the resolve to see it through. Astounding for a child her age.
Does Angelina have the widest vocal range? No.
Does she possess a shock factor like being able to sing a note that could break glass? Probably not.
But she is by far my favourite artist currently because when she sings, my untrained ears are happy, and my heart, lighter.
    Peace, and take care 🙂

If she can sing Whitney Houston's "I have nothing" from bottom to top, modulations included, how much more of a range does she need? The question that you posed, does she have the widest range, to which you replied no. Well I respond yes, if she can sing Whitney Houston's most difficult song, she has a substantial range. One point in rebuttal. if Angelina's voice is measured on the scale from her lowest to her highest natural note, she has a very substantial range, and now that she is maturing she is adding a pure tone falsetto, which adds to her range. I'm just really not understanding why there are some who keep saying she doesn't have a range. How many female singers can sing as low as she does, and that's part of her range. Just because some reactors want to take one or two of her songs from her childhood, and try to pick them apart, doesn't mean whatever they say is accurate. Angelina is a phenomenal singer still developing as we speak, so what else do people want her to do, walk on water as though she's not good enough yet. Come on guys!

Finally we have the next stage of Angelina's career beginning when she was 14-years old up to her present age of 16-years old. In August of 2020 Angelina signed a record contract with Republic Records, one of the labels of Universal Music Group (UMG). UMG is the largest music company in the world. Based out of the Netherlands, its operational headquarters are located in Santa Monica, California. On September 21, 2021 they went public with an IPO in Europe at a value of $54.3 billion. UMG is considered the most innovative music company and is among the Top 50 most innovative companies in the world. As a result of her signing with Republic Records, very few UA-cam videos have been uploaded to Angelina's primary channels. On June 3, 2021 Angelina uploaded her first TikTok video. Since then she posts short cover videos. On July 2021, TikTok increased maximum video length from 1 minute to 3 minutes. On March 2022, TikTok increased the maximum video length to 10 minutes. Hopefully that means that Angelina can now post full covers where before she could only do 3 minutes. Angelina also has an Instagram account since September 21, 2014. In general, Instagram videos can be up to 10 minutes. Here is the first part of Angelina’s 14-years old to 16-years old age time after signing with Republic Records.
---- Million Miles: there are three notable videos, a lyric version, a studio version, and a music video version
    - At 14-years old. This song is an original co-written by Angelina and was the first song published with Republic Records. The song was written by Angelina after her maternal grandfather died and she was thinking about all the great memories she had and how it hurts to lose someone. Angelina dedicated the song to anyone who has lost a loved one. The lyric version uses Angelina's maternal grandmother Mery Zamani's painting as a background with the lyrics overlaid on it: ua-cam.com/video/NhKRh5ZtuWk/v-deo.html
    - At 14-years old. The studio live performance: ua-cam.com/video/3KxvwuZ7oEM/v-deo.html
    - At 14-years old. The official music video: ua-cam.com/video/XA1_CUaM52I/v-deo.html
---- 7th Heaven: there are three notable videos, a lyric version, a studio version, and a music video version
    - As 15-year old. Wrote as 15-year old. Angelina said: “The initial idea for ‘7th Heaven’ was that I love the number 7, and ‘heaven’ is such a powerful word and makes you dream away.” Angelina revealed that she is often inspired to create music from personal pain: “Strong emotions, mainly painful ones, often make me write music.” The lyric version uses Angelina's maternal grandmother Mery Zamani’s painting Rows of Angels as a background with the lyrics overlaid on it: ua-cam.com/video/o4Vl3I1WWq4/v-deo.html
    - As 15-year old. Studio live performance with last measure slightly different was created by Stargate. They are a top shelf record producing and songwriting team (Norwegians Tor E. Hermansen and Mikkel S. Eriksen) that is now based in Los Angeles. They have produced or written for Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Celine Dion, Sam Smith, Whitney Houston, and many others. Angelina and her team kept tweaking the song until it was perfect and ready for release. Angelina said she wanted an "old school meets new school kinda vibe to it": ua-cam.com/video/bM8DzMRbiIc/v-deo.html
    - As 15-year old. Official music video that uses audio only soundtrack. The waitress in it is Sydney Dalessi, a dancer/actress/singer. Sydney is 5' 7" tall and Angelina towers over her showing that Angelina is at least 6' tall. The bass player is Dylan Meeks who is one of the best jazz pianist in the US: ua-cam.com/video/9rLiWvwzbCA/v-deo.html
    ---- Heal The World
As 15-year old. The song written and recorded by Michael Jackson for his eighth studio album, Dangerous, released in 1991. The song has antiwar lyrics and indicates Michael's wish for humanity of making the world a better place. Michael said this song he was most proud to have created. Angelina did a studio live performance as part of the first Royal virtual visit from Norway to California. Angelina does an excellent version as her voice is mature beyond her age: ua-cam.com/video/Hy5bBKfIziw/v-deo.html
    ---- Billy Jean
As 15-year old. The hit song written by Michael Jackson was on his sixth studio album, Thriller, released in 1982. It won two Grammys. The song blends post-disco, rhythm and blues, funk and dance-pop. Michael said the lyrics were based on groupies' claims about his older brothers when he toured with them as the Jackson 5. Angelina puts the song on its head by doing a jazzy version that re-invents the song to something different than the original: ua-cam.com/video/xp67k9wk2Mw/v-deo.html
    ---- Yesterday
As 15-year old. This song of the Beatles, was written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon-McCartney. It was on the album Help! released in 1965. Sung by Paul, it was the first solo performance of the band. There have been more than 2,200 covers, it was voted the best song of the 20th century, and it was voted the top pop song of all time. The song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. It is a melancholy ballad about the break-up of a relationship. Angelina changes the lyrics a little and keeps the sadness: ua-cam.com/video/orv_BqSSa2g/v-deo.html
    ---- Easy On Me
As 15-year old. The song was co-written by Adele and is from her fourth studio album, 30, released in 2021. It is a pop ballad that Expresses themes of nostalgia, regret, and forgiveness. The lyrics represent Adele's plea to her son, in which she details her struggles with her dissolved marriage and requests him to be kind to her. Again, Angelina presents emotions singing the song she has not experienced. Pretty amazing how she can do this: ua-cam.com/video/Mpw5Q76hWWE/v-deo.html

You are a self proclaimed vocal technical "geek" so I understand you would want to analyze technical abilities as that is your forte. Got it. But you did say how she captured the emotions. To a lot of people that is THE thing that they want from an artist. Obviously at 7 years of age the technical vocal abilities are limited due to what would be humanly impossible since the body is still developing. Lots of singers are able to do incredible things with their voice (Dimash) but there is no soul, it's just taking a song and making it all about himself by emphasizing his incredible range and adding a lot of embellishments. A lot of people listen just because they find it fascinating. At any rate I get what you are about and your honesty is greatly appreciated. Please don't take me the wrong way, I am not by any means "attacking" you, quite the opposite. This is a tough performance to grade because she is only 7 but most importantly you did say she had soul and emotion and that means a lot!
Hopefully you will analyze this performance of the classic "FEELING GOOD" at 10 years old. It will give you a little more to critique without feeling that you are about to enter "the lion's den" LOL.

Ms Oren, I just watched your reaction to the Young Angelina Jordan, singing (Gloomy Sunday), while I agreed with all your critique of her performance, may I add, 6 years old, singing in a foreign language,. But that's too rudimentary, her presentation of the piece, is masters level. The dress, the hair, the missing tooth, the bare feet, if you could imagine a little girl, imitating her mother's walk, with her hand on her hip... playing grown up, except with a voice instead,
Now, to my point, this performance is Einstein, she fits no standard, she redraws the lines, she's Brooke sheilds in pretty baby.
This is a masterpiece of performance. Something like Picasso's field of daises... simple And Elegant. Had he only followed the great masters of his time, he would never have achieved his own greatness. Too often, we only recognize greatness when it closely resembles the standard of greatness, already achieved.

I’m not critical of your reaction and welcome a fresh perspective. It is definitely true that Angelina’s voice does sound like a child and it has developed over time into an amazing instrument. More importantly, and you keyed in on this, she has a musicality and ability to use her instrument in the service of communicating the spirit of the song. She gets the songs and she moves the audience. She connects - at age 6. I can’t imagine how beautifully she would be able sing “Gloomy Sunday” now. Other child singers may have the same potential for their voice to develop but they don’t start out with Angelina’s profound musical understanding. She always manages to make the most of the instrument she has at each stage. Please keep reviewing Angelina. She has many types of performance each revealing a different facet of her talent.

I can appreciate a great voice, the ability to hit and sustain certain notes cleanly, but that is not what draws me to a singer. Angelina has a performative ability that transcends the notes in the song, and I think you have noticed it. She makes you hear the story and more importantly feel it. Angelina's imperfections are more engaging to me than the perfectly executed notes of most other singers. Pointing out that she has technical shortcomings at the age of seven is not really earth shattering. I find your reactions very interesting, and I want to see you try some more Angelina. If you can withstand the slings and arrows it will probably bump up your subscriptions, she has a huge fan base.

Angelina has a great voice, and a great voice, is not to be compared to an unusual voice. One of the things that even young reactors are quick to say is that her voice is so beautiful. About Jordan has everything. He has the range to sing the best song that Whitney Houston has recorded, and when Angelina sung it she was 12 years old full rang. Her control is absolutely impeccable. And one of the most important things which is different from some of these singers with these extreme tricks that they can do with their voices, Angelina can cross many genres masterfuly. Angelina is no way limited in her gift, and skill. I am pretty sure I've never heard Diana sing a lower note than Angelina, but it is the timber of Diana's voice which makes her sound so low. It is just plain incorrect to insinuate that Angelina is a limited singer.

Continuing with the growth of Angelina's voice, now as a 10-year old. A prior comment was about when Angelina was 8-years old and 9-years old and how we have a dramatic improvement in voice quality and stage presence from her Gloomy Sunday audition on 2014 Norway's Got Talent when Angelina was 7-years old.
SIDE NOTE: As we know, Angelina was born in Oslo, Norway. She has lived for extended periods both in Oslo and in Los Angeles where Angelina now lives since 2020. She also lived for a time in the Middle East where she met the young girl who inspired her to perform barefoot after Angelina gave the girl her shoes and the girl said she would pray for Angelina. Angelina's mother is Norwegian Sara Astar, daughter of Iranian artist and poet Mery Zamani and a Japanese father. Her father is Gerry Christian Slattman, a petroleum engineer from Sweden.
Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School. It is an integrated primary, middle and high school with around 550 pupils. The school is considered one of the most prestigious schools in Norway. The arts play a major role in the Waldorf's curriculum and the activities surrounding the school. The Oslo Waldorf School includes a professionally equipped theater hall. Due to its long waiting lists, pupils are often enrolled shortly after birth to attend the school.
Angelina participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where she received vocal training and piano lessons. In addition to singing and playing the piano, she plays violin, guitar and flute, and also paints. Unlike the US, the Norwegian system of extracurricular schools of music and performing arts (SMPA) is mandated by law. These schools are designed to reach all children and youth aged 6 to 15 in Norway. The law governing it states that each municipality, "alone or in collaboration with other municipalities, shall provide courses in music and other cultural activities for children and young people, organized in association with the school system and local cultural life" (see Norwegian Education Act 1998, § 13-6).
It is unclear, but the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program may be associated with The Norwegian Academy of Music which is also located in the west end of Oslo where the Oslo Waldorf School is located. It is the largest music academy in Norway and is considered to have the best music education. Throughout the years the Academy has educated many of Norway's most renowned musicians. It educates musicians within music genres of folk, church, classical and, quite notably, a string of successful performers within the jazz realm. Given Angelina's love of jazz, it makes perfect sense that she would have wanted to attend an after-school program at such a prestigious and world renown place as the Norwegian Academy of Music. Unfortunately, it is not totally clear whether the Academy also ran/is the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program that Angelina attended.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next we have Angelina as a 10-year old, and another bump in quality.
    ---- What A Difference A Day Makes
As 10-year old, sung on Little Big Shots UK show. We now have Angelina singing the same song for three consecutive years and all sung live. Again, one can hear Angelina's voice improving from a pretty high bar that she had set when 8-years old. The strength, timbre, etc is growing as Angelina is growing, as one would have hoped for, and expected: ua-cam.com/video/toGcOlXZPYo/v-deo.html
---- Fly Me To The Moon
Another song that Angelina has sung three years in a row. As 10-year old, she makes a studio recording with acoustic guitar that is overlaid onto a video directed by Angelina's maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani. One of her most popular videos, one can hear the improvements in singing the song from earlier years. This one of five/six videos (see following for others) made when Angelina was 10-years old that continued to hook people: ua-cam.com/video/jnnzbdt4_RE/v-deo.html
    ---- Back To Black
As 10-year old, sung this Amy Winehouse song for Norwegian PBS station NRK with an orchestra. She re-wrote part of lyrics of the song to more age appropriate. She also somewhat modified her vocal presentation from other songs she had performed. Again, the improvement in voice quality: ua-cam.com/video/ICY1uJe15cM/v-deo.html
---- Feeling Good: there are two notable performances when Angelina was 10 years old. It should be mentioned that the famous Swedish DJ and musician Avicii chose Angelina for vocals on his worldwide Volvo commercial campaign, due to Angelina’s brilliant cover of Nina Simone’s song Feeling Good
    - As 10-year old, Angelina sung on Norwegian TV 2 on show The Stream Gir Tilbake that broadcasts musical evening of live stage performances. At end of song, Angelina goes up four consecutive times to a higher note to make a dramatic finish to the song: ua-cam.com/video/p8kAL-sGJx8/v-deo.html
    - As 10-year old, Angelina sung live outdoors on the Norwegian TV 2 singalong show Allsang På Grensen held outdoors at Fredriksten Fortress in Halden, Norway. This is the same outdoor venue she sang at two years earlier giving her fantastic version of What A Difference A Day Makes as an 8-year old: ua-cam.com/video/7HaMvkflBAo/v-deo.html
    ---- I Will Survive
As 10-year old, Angelina again hits it out of the park, in another new music genre: disco! This is only disco song to win Grammy. In 2016, Library of Congress deemed Gloria Gaynor's original recording to be "culturally, historically, or artistically significant" and selected it for preservation in National Recording Registry. Rolling Stone has it on its list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time: ua-cam.com/video/ma7sa_n7k-/v-deo.html
SIDE NOTE: here is a mashup of Angelina and Gloria singing the song. When Angelina is singing, pictures of her are shown. When Gloria is singing, pictures of her are shown. Close your eyes and try to guess who is singing when. Pretty amazing that a 10-year old, singing in a disco style, can sound so similar to a 35-year old woman singing it: ua-cam.com/video/WFvvYGK1YLU/v-deo.html
---- I'm Still Holding Out For You
As 10-year old, Angelina studio recorded this demo. Very different music genre than jazz, probably Billboard 100 type of song. Many people love this song and rate it as one of her best. Many think it could have been a worldwide hit if it had been released by a major label. This was a cover of Baby FuzZ song. Baby FuzZ was also known by the stage name Sterling Fox. He is Brandon Lowry who has written and produced multiple songs for others including Lana Del Ray, Britney Spears, Avicii, Adam Lambert and Madonna. Angelina’s people did not allow the release of the song because they thought it to be the wrong stylistic choice for her. Baby FuzZ never heard Angelina’s demo until years later. This is a “leaked” version of the song Angelina recorded which at first was blocked by Angelina’s people for fear of copyright infringement issues, but Baby FuzZ really liked the demo and allowed it to stay up on UA-cam: ua-cam.com/video/Dv8mjCh5iiE/v-deo.html

When Angelina turns 12-years old, her career is moving faster and she is doing and publishing many more covers of songs. Her voice continues to get stronger and better as Angelina further experiments with music from different genres. She also co-writes and self-publishes a song that appears to have James Bond music influences that Angelina seems to confirm during an interview.
---- Shield (as 12-year old, Angelina co-wrote song): there are two notable versions, one live on TV and a second live in a small club atmosphere
    - As 12-year old, sung on very popular Scandinavian talk show Skavlan (2.5 to 3 million viewers per show): ua-cam.com/video/lQtUbVKb0vs/v-deo.html
SIDE NOTE: In interview (changes to English at about 0:36 mark) before Angelina sung, paraphrasing, she said that when she sings she goes into endless other world that is full of happiness. She said that song is about someone you love and whose strong love protects you wherever you are. Angelina said song's sound was inspired by Bond films. Her favorite Bond film songs are Diamonds Are Forever and Goldfinger. She sings few bars of Diamonds Are Forever a cappella. She said that highlight of her career was singing for Quincy Jones' 85th birthday concert in London. When asked if she feels like she is 12 years old, Angelina says she only does when she looks at her passport: ua-cam.com/video/97hjWg4ToRQ/v-deo.html
    - As 12-year old, sung in club-like venue with same four piece band that Angelina used for her 2018 Kongsberg Jazz Festival performances: ua-cam.com/video/9sYypd1yGR4/v-deo.html
    ---- Crazy
As 12-year old, Angelina sung song live at 2018 Kongsberg Jazz Festival. Unfortunately, no significant video of this festival has been published. However, excellent audio does exist. The following video is a mashup of Festival audio and two rehearsal videos. Some of best audio/video editing that you will witness makes the mashup video look like a rehearsal of this Patsy Cline/Willie Nelson 1961 hit country song. Amazing: ua-cam.com/video/RI9s_Qp7X_g/v-deo.html
    ---- Ain’t No Sunshine
As 12 year-old. This is the Bill Withers classic 1971 R&B hit. Musicians Hank Roberts (great cello), Brian Wilson (drums), Mike Stark (piano) and Anna Coogan (guitar) originally performed song for the singer Canen. A mashup video was created using Angelina’s simple home cover with the band making fantastic composition: ua-cam.com/video/JyziJiJ1HYg/v-deo.html
    ---- It’s A Man’s World
As 12-year old. With enhanced audio to correct for the band playing too loud and the distance away from the stage of the video recording. Gives background info about live concert and shows lyrics. This is the classic R&B song that was written by James Brown and Betty Jean Newsome. James recorded it in 1966 and released it in 1967 when it became Billboard R&B No. 1 hit. Rolling Stone has it on its list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Angelina does the song justice showing off her singing chops: ua-cam.com/video/tGXnodBLyUg/v-deo.html
    ---- Stay
As 12-year. old. Just Angelina and a guitar in a home recording that lets her voice shine. This piano ballad about a relationship was written by songwriter Mikky Ekko, Justin Parker, and Elof Loelv. The song was recorded by Rihanna when she was 25-years old and became her 27th million-seller. Angelina's soothing voice makes this ballad quite beautiful: ua-cam.com/video/_GSVPvCy3Yg/v-deo.html
---- I Put A Spell On You: there are two notable versions, one live at a jazz festival and a second at a rehearsal
    - As 12-year old, audio of Angelina's performance at the 2018 Kongsberg Jazz Festival is overlaid on brief video of Screamin' Jay Hawkins (original singer of song) and pictures from original studio recording. This is similar yet different than Angelina's 9-year old version as one can hear her maturing voice giving a different take on the song: ua-cam.com/video/zdFjajHFAOA/v-deo.html
    - As 12-year old, we have a rehearsal for 2018 Kongsberg Jazz Festival concert. The band sounds great as well as Angelina as she has some fun during this rehearsal: ua-cam.com/video/lW8g5QmTLY0/v-deo.html
---- Fly Me To The Moon
As 12-year old. This is a rehearsal that was remixed with the sound from Quincy Jones’ 85th birthday concert at O2 Arena in London. Unfortunately no video of Angelina performing at this special concert has surfaced. Angelina said this was one of the greatest honors she had to perform for Quincy Jones. After the concert, Quincy sees that Angelina was barefoot and was fascinated by it and at first mentioned that he was sad that she was barefoot before he was told the reason for Angelina being barefoot: ua-cam.com/video/OMkwoqUNNkE/v-deo.html
    ---- Valerie
As 12-year old. This is the 2006 song by English indie rock band the Zutons as covered by Mark Ronson in 2007, with lead vocals provided by Amy Winehouse. It reached number two on the UK Singles Chart. Shows how great Angelina is even in rehearsal with the same four piece band she had at the 2018 Kongsberg Jazz Festival: ua-cam.com/video/3-ScDAB0iHc/v-deo.html
    ---- Born To Die
As 12-year old. This 2012 song was by Lana Del Rey. It was on her album of the same name. The album is important as it was on the Billboard 200 charts for over 400 weeks making it the first debut album by a woman to chart for so long. Angelina uses a backing track and mostly a lower register voice, occasionally going up higher: ua-cam.com/video/DNU-HcLuO_I/v-deo.html
    ---- A Million Years Ago
As 12-year old. Only an acoustic guitar with Angelina's gorgeous voice, the same way that Adele sang it. The 12-year old Angelina does well compared with the 27-year old Adele. This folk song by Adele was on her third studio album 25. The song was never released as a single yet it still charted in the US, UK and nine other countries: ua-cam.com/video/QHLtZQ3sIwE/v-deo.html
    ---- California Dreamin'
As 12-year old. Again only an acoustic guitar and Angelina. She slows down the tempo creating a new version. The song was written by John and Michelle Phillips in 1963. It was first recorded by Barry McGuire where the Mamas and the Papas sang backup. However, in 1965 the Mamas and the Papas released it as a single and their version became the most known. The song is on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. In 2001, it was put into the Grammy Hall of Fame: ua-cam.com/video/EBI7Km3z7-U/v-deo.html

There is a lot of vocals to do here, you say. Well she's only 7 years old. What could you do 7 years old. I could barely read, She also sings in a foreign language, and not her mother tongue which is Norwegian. I think you're not quite in touch with her age. You can put on Billie Holiday and listen to her. But it's okay for you to mean this, even if I disagree with you beyond all things. 7 years old and you analyze her as an adult professional. She was signed by Republic Records just 14 years old, and her videos have generated over 1 billion views. The group "The Queen" paid tribute to her personally on their official Twitter account for her interpretation of "Bohemian Rhapsody" 13 years old. I do not think you today have so much to teach her vocally. But thank you for your reaction.

The overwhelming majority of her fan base knows that such behavior is not something that she would ever want to see happen. And her version of Fly me to the moon in the rehearsal for Quincy Jones Anniversary for example (she made a few versions of this song). And the studio live version of her song Million Miles. LINOR - You are saying you want us to say what we think. You may not have known what that would bring out. You are a "voice geek" (your term, not mine) ..but she is a very young girl .. 7 yrs old .. which you knew and which you kept reminding yourself .. (for it wasn't us you needed to remind.)
I am guessing you already knew that the video you just watched went viral worldwide .. broke the internet. You also said that she was lovely and was making everyone cry .. which she still does, by the way .. to the fascination and joy of all experiencing her sing. I think that you, as a music "geek", think that singing perfectly is more important than having people all over the world be touched enough emotionally that they cry when she sings because she deeply moves them and touches their hearts.
We are talking two different worlds .. the organic and the technical .. both are valuable and very different. Even though she moved you, you did not want to stay in your emotions .. but you believed your "job" was to help her be a better technical singer. I think that you believe that singing needs perfect technicality and you wanted to teach her and us.
But what makes Angelina unique (and to this day, 10 years older, it is unmistakably her strength : Angelina sings from her heart .. and the very thing she literally offered her heart to as a singer is that she wanted people to FEEL .. the songs AND their hearts.
Angelina fell in love with jazz singers as a tiny child, and it's because of the passion they give to their feelings. That is organic talent .. not necessarily taught .. and it moves people deeply. Some people want to hear pretty singing and correct this and that .. and that is fine. But I personally believe that passion is far more important than perfection. It's a choice.
I think that was Angelina's mother's fear .. that someone would try teaching her when organically she is a blessed blessed gift .. and a deeply good human being.
So it was unfortunate that you came, ready to give your perspective of good singing and it broke a lot of people who adore Angelina and who believe in HER perfection BECAUSE OF HOW SHE CAN MAKE THEM FEEL.
Different worlds ... perfect singing and profoundly moving singing. I suppose they could work together but I don't know if I've experienced that.
I feel you came with the best intentions, and i will say I'm sorry you got battered somewhat .. but honestly, if there was a fault anywhere, it was in whoever told you to come and critique. If they had known what Angelina's mom had said they would not have asked you to do that.
In the process we use .. (I think many people do) is REACTING to a singer, rather than CRITIQUING and TEACHING.
You come from the last school .. and I do believe many want that style of teaching a young person so you will still be needed and perhaps you have and will help them be better technical singers .. and perhaps .. because you met Angelina (and many people who adore and protect her) .. that you will honor and be gentle when an organic singer comes your way and perhaps you can learn from each other. Blessings to you.

But I think everybody can agree on one thing: this stuff is different :-). Everything this girl does is different from the norm, be it her tone, be it her style, be it her approach to music..., and imho that makes her special and interesting. On a final note, I warmly recommend you to listen to Billie Holiday's recording of this song 'gloomy sunday', not on cam, but in your own interest. I think only when you compare Angelina's performance to Billie Holiday's recording the genius of Angelina becomes apparent, because she managed to capture the essence of Billie Holiday's tone here. It's not her professionalism, her advancing vocals or her interpretation of every song she covers as well as her own. It's how she reaches inside of you with a pure, real, honest riotousness. Today her vocals are unreal and some don't hear what she is doing. The resonant frequency and auto-tune like sound effect is new and you can hear it in some of her newer live performances and soon people will be talking about it! I have to take issue with some of the criticism you're getting from some commenters. Angelina fans, myself included, tend to be VERY protective of her. In our minds, her genius is beyond criticism. However, we got that way by watching her progress, improvement, and vocal skills. She got the nickname 'the Girl with 1,000 voices' because, well, that's who she has been throughout her childhood , recalling artists like Billie Holiday, Etta James, Nina Simone, Amy Winehouse, Lana Del Rey, Adele, Rihanna, and countless others all while developing a distinctive voice that is unmistakable. I understand your criticisms, although I don't share them, but in this particular unadorned, live performance, her sheer ability at such an age overwhelms any shortcomings in her 7-year old voice. You can hear her beautiful, 16-year old version in all its glory in some of her recent releases, two of which are originals. You don't sound as impressed as your facial expressions seem to show, but I strongly suggest you watch her iconic black and white studio version of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' crazy rendition of "I Put a Spell on You' and If that doesn't satisfy you, ' I don't know what else to say. 🙂😎

Interesting take. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course. I have to agree whit the people saying that the amount of emotion expressed, is the main purpose of music. At least when it comes to music that can be described more as art then entertainment. It's all about emotions for me. IE "the art" Even as/for a drummer. Nearly perfectly clean playing and singing is great. Absolutely perfect pitch and rhythm continuously, takes away from the degree of emotion delivered. If emotional content is part of what one tries to convey in the music. As it defenetly is in jazz, blues, soul, rock'n"roll etc. If a singer sings a sad song, and actually cries during the performance, falling somewhat of pitch and pace, it only conveys the song and its emotional expression to a much larger degree.
This is all my personal opinion of course, and respect anyone who thinks that technique, pitch, riffs, runs and high pitch are more important. The right to the opinion I respect. Not the actual opinion. This is a Jazz classic from one of, if not the most, legendary jazz singers of all time. Billie Holiday. The main reason Billie Holiday is viewed as such, is her emotional delivery and not technical ability or perfect pitch. If the latter where the criteria, someone else would have been widely regarded as "the queen of jazz". And we would not need human musicians anymore, and everyone would be as respected for using autotune, as those (few) that still don't.
Have you listened to Billie Holidays version of this song BTW? It's not "perfect pitch" or 100% steady beat on that recording either. And that is exactly why it is perfect. Enough said. I find it nice to hear someone critique Angelina for once. And after reading your comment section, understand more about what some reactors point to when they say they "don't dare" to say anything not positive about her. IMO we do not do Angelina any favors when attacking reactors that do not "feel" her as much as some of us do. It's all good. And to be fair you did say you like her. I agree totaly on the point of her getting better and better all the time. Thx for your reaction and time spent on Angelina. Oh my God, please ignore the rude fanatic reactions. You were honest and that's great! As you explained, you are a voice geek, with a classical background, but open for other styles. I did enjoy your reactions on Dimash and Diana Ankudinova a lot! I was impressed by their voices, skills and performances. But by now I find them just very good, admire them, but they don't move me so much anymore, since they seem to repeat themselves in a way. Huge show like, almost bombastic performances made to let their extreme voices shine.
By now I prefer to follow the journey of Angelina, who is somewhat more limited in her voice but developing beautiful. I really believe there is no singer so versatile as she is and the way she can deliver the emotions and the storytelling is superb. If you were more familiar with her jazz roots you might understand better how special her development is! For instance if you hear the original of Billie Holiday you'll notice how close she was with her version. Billie h. only had a limited range of one and a half octave, sang mostly soft, raspy and airy. But her voice pierced thru your soul. Angelina sings it almost the same, but thru her emotions it comes out different, but still very moving if you ask me. For many people it's hard to combine what you see and what you hear. For others it's just what makes her so special. I hope you will keep following her. you will find out she is like a chameleon!

What I like about Angelina is her ability to get a song over her way I don't think she thinks about technic it's about emotion but as she has got older and stronger she is better who cares about perfect singing form music is about feelings and emotion Angelina is the best I know at doing this that's why she is loved by millions but we all have options

I focus more on what she was trying to do than what she succeeded in doing. Most children her age wouldn't even notice many of the techniques Angelina called upon during this competition alone. Rightly or wrongly she was also doing a lot of mimicking throughout the contest. Had it occurred to her to use her natural voice here, I'm sure the outcome would have been good but the big shock for me - and the reason I listened again and showed it to other people - was that she was doing Billie Holiday . . . at 7! How successful it was is revealed in the fact that I was familiar with Billie Holiday's voice but not this song. As soon as I heard this performance, I felt I knew exactly how Billie Holiday's version would sound.
Child music prodigies these days seem to be ten-a-penny. There are probably enough grade school virtuoso pianists and violinists in south-east Asia alone to populate a city. For those, you nod approvingly and applaud but singing is different; seven-year-olds should only make you cry if you were at their conception.

    I disagree with you.
This was more her emotional storytelling voice versus her vocal expertise.
If you listen to the original you will realize how she respected the original artist.
She was not trying to impress us with her vocal skills. She was trying to express the feelings of the song. Each song she performs she brings different things to the table, depending on what the song requires, if it is vocalization or storytelling.
She was more vocal a year earlier with I Who Have Nothing at 6 years old.
Also if you do the next 3 songs on NGT 2014, in order and in 1 reaction, you will see the song progression. 8 min. I'm a Fool to Want You, Bang Bang, Summertime. Much more vocals.

Hello. Your arguments confuse me. You praise that at that age she is soulful using only a quarter of her potential, that she dominates the stage, that now she changes her style depending on the song... It seems to me that all this can be defined with a single phrase, an enormous talent.
But in the end you say that you only like a singer when she uses all her vocal power, don't you think that the essence of Gloomy Sunday would be lost singing it at the top of lungs? And I assure you that she has vocal power ('I who have nothing', with 6 years old)
I'm not a specialist in musical techniques, but when I heard this, I knew that it was a rough diamond that only needed to be cut and polished with hardly any carat loss, and the diamond cutter must be very good because more and more facets appear.

It is important to remember that this is her first audition. There is a huge difference and development between this and summer time that she did at the end of the show. This was my first meeting with Angelina and I was not too impressed either. But then again I usually change channel when kids perform adult material. But you should do yourself a favor and listen to summertime, then you will be blown away! Many of Angelina's fans don't know the first thing about singing so never mind them. They will protect her at any cost, even if their opinions are in conflict with the science of the voice. And just to add: this is a very difficult song to audition with.

I remember some vocal coaches saying that Angelina shouldn't be singing because she was too young, her interpretive ability wasn't normal, she was delivering something that she couldn't show to the world, she could ruin her voice, she should study and just a lot grown up could show her talent. Strangely, to me, they seemed very concerned, but because they would have to find a way to justify to the parents of their young students why they couldn't teach them to sing like Angelina.

I agree with your reaction. You could hear the potential, but you could also hear the 7-year old voice. Gloomy Sunday is not an easy jazz song to sing at any age, yet Angelina tackled it and was able to move on in the competition. However, Angelina by age 8 had quite a big jump in her voice, even during the 2014 Norway Got Talent show. Angelina has published so much material that she has sung, that one can actually hear her voice change and the subtle changes she makes to the song's performance. There are published rehearsals, in studio, on TV, live in concert, and live walking down the street recording into her cell phone. What is quite impressive is the consistency of her singing across all these situations. One could merge her singing a song in all these cases and it virtually sounds similar and many times quite difficult to tell the difference. So may I suggest several ways to react to Angelina. One is the same song sung over many years many times in different situations. Second, as you look to be doing, is by age as Angelina grows older.
Let us take a look at songs Angelina sung as an 8-year where you can hear a distinct change in her voice.
---- Bang Bang My Baby Shot Me Down
As 8-year old, sung on 2014 Norway's Got Talent with only a guitarist. This is a shortened version on the Nancy Sinatra song: ua-cam.com/video/HCaDyiqs7Wg/v-deo.html
    ---- What A Difference A Day Makes
As 8-year old, sung Dinah Washington classic on TV 2 singalong show Allsang På Grensen held outdoors at Fredriksten Fortress in Halden, Norway on Thursday June 3, 2014. Video is famous because of false postings on Facebook misstating Angelina was Amy Winehouse at 10-years old. Even with posting corrections and fact-checking site Snopes debunking it, incorrectly captioned video got over 30 million Facebook views. Besides Angelina's voice, what makes this song so impressive is her timing and presentation of the song belie her age. You just cannot believe someone so young could sing like this. Additionally, when you play Angelina singing this song without showing who is singing, I have yet to find anyone who can come close to saying her age: ua-cam.com/video/ZSfgCIGd7k4/v-deo.html
---- Fly Me To The Moon: there are two notable performances when Angelina was 8 years old
    - As 8-year old, sung on Senkveld Show (“Late Night Show”) on TV 2 in Norway with subtitled interview before singing. This show was shown on late Friday nights and in 2014 typically got 750,000 or more viewers a show. You can hear Angelina speak answering questions and then you hear her sing with a different voice. You can hear the voice improvement in a short 6 or so months from Angelina's Gloomy Sunday audition: ua-cam.com/video/3Ph-soo7jls/v-deo.html
    - As 8-year old, sung on TV show The View US. This was about 5 months after the Senkveld Show performance. And was Angelina's first big exposure in the US as the show typically had 3+ million viewers a show in 2014. We start with an interview with Rosie O'Donnell. You see that Angelina's front teeth are getting better as she grows up. And her voice continues to improve rapidly: ua-cam.com/video/nBGMQ9Kx9iI/v-deo.html.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now let us see how dramatically Angelina's voice has changed by the time she has turned 9-years old.
    ---- I Put A Spell On You
This song is what hooks many people to Angelina. This is a studio recording with an excellent band when Angelina was 9-years old. This song was originally done by Screamin' Jay Hawkins in 1956. The song was selected as one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that shaped rock and roll. Jay's theatrical stage performances of this song are legendary. At the beginning of the video, Angelina pays homage to Jay by showing a coffee meg with Jay's image on it. Her voice has further improved and she displays techniques well beyond her age: ua-cam.com/video/nwFloCPXzCs/v-deo.html
    ---- What A Difference A Day Makes
Angelina reprises the song she sang the prior summer as an 8-year old. This time she is on Singapore TV. Again, you can hear her voice is improving. Her stage presence is also growing as she gains lots of experience performing across the globe: ua-cam.com/video/uWGb9lAO-vU/v-deo.html
---- Fly Me To The Moon
As 9-year old, Angelina reprises the song on Little Big Shots US show. Before she sings, a video of Angelina in Norway is shown and she says that she likes Frank Sinatra, Billie Holliday and Dinah Washington and that she likes to sing jazz. You can hear the quality in Angelina's voice has dramatically improved in just one short year. She also has improved her presentation of the song. During Angelina's performance, Steve Harvey’s facial expressions are priceless: ua-cam.com/video/nwC1DIX4CQM/v-deo.html
    ---- Unchained Melody
On November 14, 2015, Angelina was interviewed by Anne Lindmo on Anne's Norwegian show called Lindmo. During the interview Angelina talks about her meeting a little girl in the Middle East weighing people on the side of the road to make money. Angelina notices the girl is barefoot and she gives the girl her shoes. Angelina then reads part of her diary about her experience, showing a wisdom well beyond her age at the time (Angelina was 6-years old when she met the girl). The interview (make sure have Closed Captions on unless you understand Norwegian): ua-cam.com/video/-cCLDY0CSZ8/v-deo.html
After the interview, Angelina sings Unchained Melody in the style of Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers. It is incredible that Angelina goes seamlessly into her upper head voice as Bobby did. We are talking about going down to a low note and then into the upper atmosphere. Not perfect, but pretty amazing as adults cannot do this much less a 9-year old:ua-cam.com/video/wPfMzMeBLbo/v-deo.html
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SIDE NOTE: During the Lindmo interview Angelina briefly tells of her experience of meeting the little barefoot girl. Angelina's diary/notebooks was made into a book by her. Angelina wrote "Mellom to hjerter" (translates to Between Two Hearts) and it was published in November 2015 when Angelina was 9 years-old and she became youngest published author in Norway. Angelina's maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani (herself a famous Iranian contemporary writer, poet and painter who was also a child prodigy herself), illustrated the book. A podcast was published by Angelina’s publisher, Cappelen Damm, in 2015. In it Angelina talks with Erling Kittelsen, Norwegian author and poet and friend of the family, about her book. Angelina tells of her understanding with little girl that Angelina will not wear shoes when she performs and that little girl will pray for Angelina. During pauses in talk, we hear small extracts from book which should be on children's reading list: ua-cam.com/video/6p6iL989P_8/v-deo.html

Thank you for taking the time to react to Angelina. I think that this is Angelina's performance that I like the least vocally. She was obviously nervous and a bit intimidated, with reason. Now, if we compare this to what any other 7 year-old kid would be able to do, Angelina is way up there. I see in the comments below that many are roasting you for just taking the time to react and give an honest opinion from your point of view. Most of your comments were indeed appreciative. I wouldn't blame you to move on. Die hard fans have the unfortunate habit to slaughter any reactors who will not just be in awe watching her performances. Constructive criticism is unfortunately not always appreciated. Angelina has now reached a very high level technically and artistically and is signed by UMG/Republic Records. This will hopefully help her further develop her own repertoire. To my fellow Angelina fans who may read this, note Linor's written comments above: " ...a lot to be impressed with and then some question marks were raised". Do not miss the "a lot to be impressed with". Let's support those who take the time to listen and react to our Barefoot Princess, even if we may not always agree with them. Cheers to all!

I appreciate your honest opinion. You're right that her voice is not fully formed here. It's the voice of a seven-year-old. That having been said, I've heard Billy Holiday sing this song many times but I have to say when I hear Angelina's version it always brings tears to my eyes and that never happened when I listened to Billy Holiday's version. And therein lies Angeliina's genius. The purpose of any great singer is to present a song in a way that makes it come alive. The voice is just the tool for doing that. Somehow Angelina blows past her vocal flaws and grabs for the heart and soul of this song. That is what makes this performance so powerful. Somehow at seven she understands the heartbreak in the lyrics and pushes herself to try and communicate that heartbreak. I think the right word to describe this perfomance is brave. She's pushing past her limitations in an attempt to capture the essence of the song even if it means exceeding her abilities. I think if would be so fascinating to be able to know what Billy Holiday would have thought of this interpretation of her song.
