The magical thing about Angelina is the fact that we have been privileged to watch her development from a raw 6 year old talented singer into what she is today. And the anticipation of what she will become in ten more years. Each segment of her development is special in its own way from the Norways Got Talent performances into her 9-11 year old period where she performed so much and traveled to so many places. It is so remarkable to watch the 10 year old Angelina command a stage presence with so much going on around her. Some of my very favorite videos though are the ones during the summer when she was 12 and lived in LA. Her manager hired a young man named Ivan Mendez to meet with her once a week and record music. They would all eat together and Angelina and Ivan would go off and talk about what she wanted to sing. He would listen to the song and figure out how to play it on his guitar. They would run through it a couple of times then set up the camera and record. In almost all of the performances she is reading the lyrics as she sings. These recordings are just so real. Both of them occasionally slip up a little in a song but they just keep going. Ivan is especially fun to watch because he is truly amazed by Angies singing and the emotions she puts into it. When Angelina said she waited 10 years to sing for Simon, that was not hyperbole. She is a true prodigy who virtually came out of the womb singing. As early as age five she told her mother that she wanted to sing on that "Simon show." She has a clear understanding of how capable she is, and she never sings with less than complete confidence. Angelina grew up singing; there's video on the Internet showing her singing back a line from, I believe, Whitney Houston at age 1.5. Her childhood musical heroes were Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Screamin' Jay Hawkins. While traveling through the Middle East with her grandmother, Angelina met a shoeless poor girl. Just a couple of notes about the Barefoot Angel of Oslo in case nobody else mentions them. She is a jazz singer, her background is in jazz. Her Grandmother played it all the time (still does) and there is a surprising jazz scene in Oslo. This was recorded in Oct 2019, but broadcast in Jan 2020. Her birthday is in Jan, so she is now 16. She was already a pretty big deal in Scandinavia and northern Europe, that's why this show wanted her to be on it. The judges were expecting the "Queen of Jazz" and she knew that, so she crossed them up with this highly technical piece of singing. Look at the judges faces when she starts, they're surprised (and Heidi's in love) In the audience, the stunning blonde with the little girl is Angelina's mom and little sister Juliette, with grandmother and uncle Mike alongside. When little Angie was 3 the family lived for close to a year in LA. At that age children soak up languages like a sponge, so that's why her English is so good (and Norwegian and Persian from her Iranian grandmother and her father is Swedish and her Grandfather was Japanese and she has sung in Japanese in Japan and stepped on a sticky glue mouse trap as she was headed barefoot to the stage in NY when she was ten and got stuck and, ... Tiny Little Girl Our tiny little girl with the grownup voice will be 17 on Jan. 10, 23 and is now 6'1" tall and could be a super model, but I hope the major portion of her career will be dedicated to her music and taking the world to a better place. I think you'll like reacting to Angelina. She's a "singer's singer," having mastered every vocal technique I can name and possessing off the charts musicality, with instincts that make every performance uniquely her own. And yes, it's crazy to talk like that about a child just 16 years old -- but her catalog is already so huge and varied, she's clearly well into her career at this point. So, go ahead and jump on the Angelina bandwagon -- because once she's out of high school, she may very well change the landscape of the music industry.
First off, there are many great musicians, some with greater skills than hers, but they play piano or guitar or? They are people that Angie could learn from, she just has her outstanding wonderful voice and intuition but there is so much more.. She should go to Berklee School of Jazz in Boston and learn the stuff she wasn't born with. Call it paying her dues, one year, her arranging would totally benefit. After all she wants to call the shots, this is so she can talk shop at a musician's level.

Angelina captivates from the first note, then treats each note as if it is the most important note. She is the ultimate singer story teller, conveying more emotion, IMO, than any other in my 63 years. Please take the time to read the bio I compiled for Angelina. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on UA-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. *Why Angelina always performs barefoot* At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on UA-cam went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration. Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14. At age 9, Angelina recorded a music video covering the 1956 Jay Hawkin’s classic, “I Put a Spell On You”. The video begins by showing Angelina writing her “wishes” for how she wants to perform the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for her cover songs. At age 10 and just a week before her 11th birthday, Angelina recorded a demo of “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. Her family never pursued having that recording officially released but someone leaked it on a UA-cam video. Thankfully, everyone involved with that song is now ok with the leaked version. Many angels (fans) believe this is one of Angelina’s best performances. When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident. On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year. During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each. In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT. Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on UA-cam. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. On UA-cam, search on The Complete Works of Angelina Jordan as Rusty Shackleford has put all songs in one file and has a complete playlist in the description of that video. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her. During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles. In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one. Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song. Angelina has posted numerous short performances on Tik Tok and Instagram. Angelina has concerts scheduled in Norway in July 2022. Personally, Angelina as a great human being and her music came into my life when I needed it most. Her music has improved the quality of my life more than I can express. I now introduce her to as many people as I can, with the hope her music will do the same for others. We know once her family believes the time is right and allows Republic Records to fully promote her, she will become the superstar she has always dreamt and believed she would be. A couple things about her: 1. Never ever nervous; she has performed in front of up 40,000, though she has a somewhat shy personality. 2. She made that outfit herself, from fabric with the artwork of her Grandmother, Mery Zamani. 3. She was brought up speaking English as much as Norwegian, and has no discernable accent whatsoever. She apparently also speaks Persian (again, from her Grandmother), Japanese, and Swedish, due to the international nature of how/where she grew up. As a vocal coach, Angelina is someone that will give you a lot to study. Her musical intuition is unlike anyone I have ever listened to, and her ability to control her instrument is just incredible. She always sings right from her soul. She is only 16, but her library of work is already massive. This song was short, but you still have a lot more to hear from this one. And as always for anyone new to Angelina, here is a little bio so that you can learn a little more about her background and her kind and caring soul....... *Angelina Jordan* - Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the whole show at just 8 years old. - In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes" - When Angelina was 9 years old she became the youngest published author in Norway, when she wrote a book about the story of why she doesn't wear shoes when she sings. She donated proceeds from the sales of the book to help children in need. - The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood. After she won NGT, they did not want her to be thrust into stardom before she had a chance to grow up as a normal child, and get her education. They allowed her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that came in. Over the years since NGT, they have turned down offers from many major record labels and even disney. - Angelina has covered more than 160 songs and over 70 artists. She always selects the songs herself... everything ranging from old classic jazz to modern pop. She is able to change her voice to match any song she sings and make it her own. You really need to react to her NGT proformances where it all started . And you'll see even at 7 she already was a full blown artist with more soul and maturity then most season adult performers . It's a real sight to behold and a must if you're gonna dive in to the Angelina rabbit hole .
Arrangements are 100% Angelina's. The musicians refer to her as "the boss", but in a respectful way; she is in charge. This performance has over 100M views (not counting the 10M dumped by AGT) on several YT channels. It is her most viewed performance. She has been honing her skills since she was a very young child, winning Norway's Got Talent by a landslide at age 8. Although she's performed over 160 songs and has 5 originals of her own, everything she does is of her own arrangement. The 2 biggies on your descent into the rabbit hole are "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "I Put a Spell on You". This second song is a cover of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' 1956 jazz classic. While there are many performances of this song, including some pretty big names in the business, Angelina has her own way of doing things. Shortly after her 9th birthday, Angelina arranged and performed the song in a black and white studio performance, which many deem as one of Angelina's masterpieces covers (I look forward to engaging with you on why older Angelina hasn't been able to reproduce this performance in her later years). For vocal coaches, this song shows Angelina doing some quite amazing things with her voice. Her techniques and ornaments to achieve the sounds she wants are in abundant quantities. (The notes Angelina's writing in the beginning of the video were made on the fly. You can even see her eyes reading the pages during the song. Secondly, she does homage to Hawkins with his face on a candle she holds.) Sara said Angelina's singing was beautiful. Angelina has had a passion for jazz that can be traced back to this period. It's wonderful that her parents and grandmother supported and helped Angelina follow own goals. Although her parents weren't musically inclined, Angelina grew up in the age of the internet and UA-cam. She not only listened to jazz, but empathetically heard the pain and suffering she heard. Angelina had ready examples to emulate and hone her craft from. At 3 years old, while watching Simon Cowell on a "Got Talent" show, she decided she wanted to sing for him. It was Angelina who wanted to compete in talent shows, and not her parents or grandparents pushing her into it. I recall reading that she began local public singing/competition at age 5. Angelina received lessons for flute, piano, guitar, and violin. She has received some assistance in making vocal studio recordings (age 6), but there's nothing specific in interviews regarding formal voice training (the articles Wikipedia references regarding voice training have nothing in their English translations to substantiate the claim beyond her time in the studio singing the way she likes to sing). Even her auditioning for Norway's Got Talent was Angelina's decision. The judges were amazed not only in her performances, but that she arranged everything, including the musicians she sang with. This 7-8 year old "owned the stage". In 9 y/o performances and up, you will see Angelina close her eyes and go away to inhabit the performance she's giving, with little concern for the crowds watching her. If you haven't heard about her before, it was likely due to her parents wanting her to have a normal childhood after winning NGT in 2014. "The View" picked up on Angelina's NGT victory and flew her to the US to perform for their audience (at 8 years of age). Angelina's passion for other children not only led to her performing barefoot (See Rusty's comments below), but she's also helped in raising over 21 million euros and several million dollars to these charities. Sara says they have turned down 90% of the offers and that they pick and choose the ones Angelina can perform for. If you ever have to question whether or not you're witnessing a child prodigy singer, you only have to look back to little Angelina for your example. We all know your main purpose is to react to the performers (and, as a professional vocalist, you do it extremely well) but, let me just say, the more reactions you do to her, the more you will see your subscriptions, likes, views and comments go through the roof. Good reaction. No disagreement with any of your points. Thing is, Angelina is an extremely deep pool of artistic talent with features to amaze you after even the 50th song you hear. I know, at the beginning you think I exaggerate, as I did the angels who spoke similarly to me. But I've learned the truth of it, and now follow Angelina's releases, awestruck with each sight of a 7 year old flawlessly doing an a capella performance of a Billie Holiday classic before a panel of judges and TV cameras, an 8 year old standing alone on a mini-stage 100 feet out into the sea of audience before the actual stage with her band and backup singers. At 9 in a recording studio with a superb jazz ensemble, making a live cover of "I Put A Spell On You" in a really nuanced and ,,what,, expert?,, is the only word that comes to me,, reinterpretation of a really bizarre if understandable song.
When she performed Bohemian Rhapsody on her Christmas Show on the 23rd of 21 it was unbelievable, the power, the control, the perfect pitch. The reaction on the face of Shelly Berg, the 3-time Grammy winner piano player, was priceless and it was evident he was astonished by her talent. Mr. Berg stated afterward that in all his years he had never encountered a talent like AJ.
Many/most of your observations of Angelina were very accurate. This girl is something truly special! When it comes to music, she is fearless. ( she is never nervous by the way, only excited to be on stage singing) Once you see her catalog of songs, you will understand. She is a real artist with a finely tuned instrument, but her ability to emote authentically & her musicality is amazing where she can take a classic, old song & totally re-interpret it into a different song that is new & beautiful. This song is a prime example, but she has done the same thing with Michael Jackson's Billie Jean, or the Moma's & the Papas, California Dreamin' or the Animals House of the Rising Sun & on & on. She is so gifted with her ability to arrange songs, that if she couldn't sing a note herself, she would still be sought after by top-tier vocalists to help them with their arrangements. This is what happens when a prodigy becomes a genius. Having done the arrangement, she then perfectly performs the song for an audience of millions. So, the obvious question is this: Why would she take on arguably the most iconic song in rock history? I think for Angelina, the answer was rather simple. Angelina created a truly different song based on the original. As you noted, this song had a totally different vibe. A bit like a movie that's based on a book - except in Angelina's case, the movie is just as good in its own way. BTW, that was such a fresh and insightful reaction and thank you for sharing.

This is a classic example of this very unique individual, when she does her covers, she pays homage to the original and then ads her own unique twists that make is so much better than it was originally performed.
Great reaction to a vocal tour-de-force! You've done it now. You have fallen into the vortex of Angelina Jordan who arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances (145+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 7/8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and Gershwin. It is the rare singer that can, as Angelina has done, go from Queen to "Screamin" Jay Hawkins to Adele to Elvis to Whitney Houston to Michael Jackson to Etta James to James Brown to Amy Winehouse to the Beatles (and many others in between) and do them all justice! Yes, jazz is her first love and she can impart those influences effectively in many areas. Angelina says she is never nervous singing as it is like breathing for her. Listen to more of her often exposed vocals and you'll agree. She isn't one to show off but adds what the song calls for.
If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. If you want to feel music, listen to Angelina. She will stagger you with her ability to find and bring forth the 'essence', the emotional message of nearly any song. You have far to go with Angelina. When Angelina said she waited 10 years to sing for Simon, that was not hyperbole. She is a true prodigy who virtually came out of the womb singing. As early as age five she told her mother that she wanted to sing on that "Simon show." She has a clear understanding of how capable she is, and she never sings with less than complete confidence. Stage fright is unknown to her. ... You are right on the money with the jazzy, R&B influences in Angelina's singing. Her grandmother, Mery Zemani who happens to have been a child prodigy in her own right in the visual arts and poetry (Angelina's outfit is based on artwork by her grandmother), is a big jazz fan. Her grandmother inundated Angelina in jazz from the time Angelina was born. Angelina sang jazz in winning Norway's Got Talent (Norske Talenter) as a little girl. In her audition there, she sang 'Gloomy Sunday,' where she virtually channeled the spirit of Billie Holiday. Check that one out. ... No accent? Yes she had spent some time in the United States. But, English is her third language, after Norwegian and Farsi. Her grandmother is Iranian and the grandmother's husband is Japanese. So, Angelina also speaks some Japanese. She did a performance of a tradition piece in Japan and wowed the audience with her virtually indigenous Japanese accent. Angelina is a genius. I would be surprised if her IQ was anything less than 140. ... Many people will tell you the shoes story and how an age 9 Angelina became the youngest book author in Norway. ... You point out her tone. I find her tone and interpretation really sets her apart as a singer. Of course her timing, intonation, and technique is also impeccable. Angelina grew up singing; there's video on the Internet showing her singing back a line from, I believe, Whitney Houston at age 1.5. Her childhood musical heroes were Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Screamin' Jay Hawkins. While traveling through the Middle East with her grandmother, Angelina met a shoeless poor girl. They talked about their dreams, and Angelina took the shoes off her feet to give to the girl and vowed to always perform barefoot until all the children of the world have shoes. Just a couple of notes about the Barefoot Angel of Oslo in case nobody else mentions them. She is a jazz singer, her background is in jazz. Her Grandmother played it all the time (still does) and there is a surprising jazz scene in Oslo. This was recorded in Oct 2019, but broadcast in Jan 2020. Her birthday is in Jan, so she is now 16. She was already a pretty big deal in Scandinavia and northern Europe, that's why this show wanted her to be on it. The judges were expecting the "Queen of Jazz" and she knew that, so she crossed them up with this highly technical piece of singing. Look at the judges faces when she starts, they're surprised (and Heidi's in love) In the audience, the stunning blonde with the little girl is Angelina's mom and little sister Juliette, with grandmother and uncle Mike alongside. When little Angie was 3 the family lived for close to a year in LA. At that age children soak up languages like a sponge, so that's why her English is so good (and Norwegian and Persian from her Iranian grandmother and her father is Swedish and her Grandfather was Japanese and she has sung in Japanese in Japan and stepped on a sticky glue mouse trap as she was headed barefoot to the stage in NY when she was ten and got stuck and, ... The shoes have a far more interesting history Well worth looking up. Her grandmother is art protege .She has an international name. She is a tremendous influence in Angelina's life. Influences, yes, quite a few. In the early days mainly Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald and Shirley Bassey. Later Frank Sinatra, Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone, Elvis, Adel and others. She has a way of picking up styles and techniques, then arranging things to give a unique style of her own. Her musicality, phrasing and vibrato bring something new. Today Angelina is 16 years old, and after the hiatus of the global pandemic, is about to pick up the pace. Oh yes, the bare feet and the colourful outfit - all part of her history. Apart from being a musical prodigy, at the age of 9 she published her book, based on a real event when she was 6 years old (from her diary). Her grandma painted the illustrations for the book, that is the fabric that made her outfit. The story is about why she performs on stage bare foot. A vocal coach recently commented that she has an amazing talent, but beyond that there is a pertinent magic about her. Tiny Little Girl
Our tiny little girl with the grownup voice will be 17 on Jan. 10, 23 and is now 6'1" tall and could be a super model, but I hope the major portion of her career will be dedicated to her music and taking the world to a better place. I don't think she even realizes this power she holds over us and the need to hear that signature voice to fill that empty void within all of us.

Everything about her is intriguing and we are privileged enough to be able to see her musical development form the age of 6 (3 if you're picky). By the time you get through her Norway's Got Talent performances (at 7-8), you'll be convinced she is a genius. I think you'll like reacting to Angelina. She's a "singer's singer," having mastered every vocal technique I can name and possessing off the charts musicality, with instincts that make every performance uniquely her own. And yes, it's crazy to talk like that about a child just 16 years old -- but her catalog is already so huge and varied, she's clearly well into her career at this point. So, go ahead and jump on the Angelina bandwagon -- because once she's out of high school, she may very well change the landscape of the music industry.
First off, there are many great musicians, some with greater skills than hers, but they play piano or guitar or? They are people that Angie could learn from, she just has her outstanding wonderful voice and intuition but there is so much more.. She should go to Berklee School of Jazz in Boston and learn the stuff she wasn't born with. Call it paying her dues, one year, her arranging would totally benefit. After all she wants to call the shots, this is so she can talk shop at a musician's level.

Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on UA-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran.
Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.
*Why Angelina always performs barefoot*
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East.
Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old.
At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried.
Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience.
In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them.
In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists.
When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”.
Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on UA-cam went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old.
In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration.
Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14.
At age 9, Angelina recorded a music video covering the 1956 Jay Hawkin’s classic, “I Put a Spell On You”. The video begins by showing Angelina writing her “wishes” for how she wants to perform the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for her cover songs.
At age 10 and just a week before her 11th birthday, Angelina recorded a demo of “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. Her family never pursued having that recording officially released but someone leaked it on a UA-cam video. Thankfully, everyone involved with that song is now ok with the leaked version. Many angels (fans) believe this is one of Angelina’s best performances.
When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident.
On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year.
During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each.
In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT.
Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on UA-cam. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her.
During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles.
In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one.
Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield”
In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song.

As a vocal coach, Angelina is someone that will give you a lot to study. Her musical intuition is unlike anyone I have ever listened to, and her ability to control her instrument is just incredible. She always sings right from her soul. She is only 16, but her library of work is already massive. This song was short, but you still have a lot more to hear from this one.

- Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She is currently 16
- She began singing at the age of one and a half
- At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and started studying all the greats from Jazz history with youtube videos.
- *Why Angelina always sings barefoot* - When Angelina was 6 years old, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. They talked for a while and discussed their dreams. It was cold and the girl had scars on her feet. Seeing this, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot as a way to remember that little girl and to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help.
Angelina holds so true to this promise that she has sung outdoors in Norway, in december... barefoot. She has sung at a dinner with ex-pres Obama... barefoot. She went on AGT (possibly the biggest stage in the world)...bare foot. She made a promise at 6 years old, and has stuck strong to it for years. That takes a special kind of person.
- She has always been the driving force behind her own singing career. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the whole show at just 8 years old.
- In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes"
- When Angelina was 9 years old she became the youngest published author in Norway, when she wrote a book about the story of why she doesn't wear shoes when she sings. She donated proceeds from the sales of the book to help children in need.
- The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood. After she won NGT, they did not want her to be thrust into stardom before she had a chance to grow up as a normal child, and get her education. They allowed her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that came in. Over the years since NGT, they have turned down offers from many major record labels and even disney.
- Angelina has covered more than 160 songs and over 70 artists. She always selects the songs herself... everything ranging from old classic jazz to modern pop. She is able to change her voice to match any song she sings and make it her own. (she can cover Amy Winehouse and Lana del Rey like nobody else)
- Angelina has collaborated with some very big names over the last few years... Quincy Jones, Mark Ronson, David Foster, Alan Walker and many more. All of which heard her and were blown away by her talent.

You really need to react to her NGT proformances where it all started . And you'll see even at 7 she already was a full blown artist with more soul and maturity then most season adult performers . It's a real sight to behold and a must if you're gonna dive in to the Angelina rabbit hole .
Arrangements are 100% Angelina's. The musicians refer to her as "the boss", but in a respectful way; she is in charge. This performance has over 100M views (not counting the 10M dumped by AGT) on several YT channels. It is her most viewed performance. She has been honing her skills since she was a very young child, winning Norway's Got Talent by a landslide at age 8. You can see improvement in each recording and by the time she finished Rolling in the Deep she was fully comfortable in her element. You have to love seeing her first Jump and silent cheer which showed her excitement after delivering that first chorus. She kept that enthusiasm through the rest of her performances. The beautifully clear performance of Rolling in the Deep reflect that. This was when her journey in her recording career started! IMO Hope I got the sequence right. I think I did. Enjoy! ♥👣
Although she's performed over 160 songs and has 5 originals of her own, everything she does is of her own arrangement. The 2 biggies on your descent into the rabbit hole are "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "I Put a Spell on You". This second song is a cover of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' 1956 jazz classic. While there are many performances of this song, including some pretty big names in the business, Angelina has her own way of doing things. Shortly after her 9th birthday, Angelina arranged and performed the song in a black and white studio performance, which many deem as one of Angelina's masterpieces covers (I look forward to engaging with you on why older Angelina hasn't been able to reproduce this performance in her later years). For vocal coaches, this song shows Angelina doing some quite amazing things with her voice. Her techniques and ornaments to achieve the sounds she wants are in abundant quantities. (The notes Angelina's writing in the beginning of the video were made on the fly. You can even see her eyes reading the pages during the song. Secondly, she does homage to Hawkins with his face on a candle she holds.)

Angelina Jordan Astar's mother, Sara Astar, said she had come home from shopping, and overheard her 18 month old singing in her room. Sara said Angelina's singing was beautiful. Angelina has had a passion for jazz that can be traced back to this period. It's wonderful that her parents and grandmother supported and helped Angelina follow own goals. Although her parents weren't musically inclined, Angelina grew up in the age of the internet and UA-cam. She not only listened to jazz, but empathetically heard the pain and suffering she heard. Angelina had ready examples to emulate and hone her craft from. At 3 years old, while watching Simon Cowell on a "Got Talent" show, she decided she wanted to sing for him. It was Angelina who wanted to compete in talent shows, and not her parents or grandparents pushing her into it. I recall reading that she began local public singing/competition at age 5. Angelina received lessons for flute, piano, guitar, and violin. She has received some assistance in making vocal studio recordings (age 6), but there's nothing specific in interviews regarding formal voice training (the articles Wikipedia references regarding voice training have nothing in their English translations to substantiate the claim beyond her time in the studio singing the way she likes to sing). Even her auditioning for Norway's Got Talent was Angelina's decision. The judges were amazed not only in her performances, but that she arranged everything, including the musicians she sang with. This 7-8 year old "owned the stage". In 9 y/o performances and up, you will see Angelina close her eyes and go away to inhabit the performance she's giving, with little concern for the crowds watching her.
If you haven't heard about her before, it was likely due to her parents wanting her to have a normal childhood after winning NGT in 2014. "The View" picked up on Angelina's NGT victory and flew her to the US to perform for their audience (at 8 years of age). Angelina's passion for other children not only led to her performing barefoot (See Rusty's comments below), but she's also helped in raising over 21 million euros and several million dollars to these charities. Sara says they have turned down 90% of the offers and that they pick and choose the ones Angelina can perform for. (At 4:36 in your clip you can see her grandmother, mother, and 7 year old younger sister, Juliette.)
If you ever have to question whether or not you're witnessing a child prodigy singer, you only have to look back to little Angelina for your example. I look forward to reading her memoirs some day, of her method and influences.

Good reaction. No disagreement with any of your points. Thing is, Angelina is an extremely deep pool of artistic talent with features to amaze you after even the 50th song you hear. I know, at the beginning you think I exaggerate, as I did the angels who spoke similarly to me. But I've learned the truth of it, and now follow Angelina's releases, awestruck with each sight of a 7 year old flawlessly doing an a capella performance of a Billie Holiday classic before a panel of judges and TV cameras, an 8 year old standing alone on a mini-stage 100 feet out into the sea of audience before the actual stage with her band and backup singers. At 9 in a recording studio with a superb jazz ensemble, making a live cover of "I Put A Spell On You" in a really nuanced and ,,what,, expert?,, is the only word that comes to me,, reinterpretation of a really bizarre if understandable song.
When she performed Bohemian Rhapsody on her Christmas Show on the 23rd of 21 it was unbelievable, the power, the control, the perfect pitch. The reaction on the face of Shelly Berg, the 3-time Grammy winner piano player, was priceless and it was evident he was astonished by her talent. Mr. Berg stated afterward that in all his years he had never encountered a talent like AJ.
Many/most of your observations of Angelina were very accurate. This girl is something truly special! When it comes to music, she is fearless. ( she is never nervous by the way, only excited to be on stage singing) Once you see her catalog of songs, you will understand. She has covered some of the biggest icons in music, many times better than the original artist. She has around 166 songs recorded between UA-cam, Instagram, and Tic Tok ( beginning at around age 6). Norwegian born, Angelina began singing at the age of one and a half, and by age three was listening to jazz and classics legends on repeat. Her grandmother was a great influence and they remain very close to this day. From childhood, it was always Angelina's own choice to pursue music.
For her first studio performance, she was just turning 7, singing I Who Have Nothing. She won Norway's Got Talent at the age of only 8, singing old time classics from Billie Holliday and George Gershwin, and became the youngest ever vocalist to win an international Got Talent Show! She also went viral on America's Got Talent the champions in 2020 with her unique version of Bohemian Rhapsody and also Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Why does Angelina sing barefoot?
When she was 6 years old, she was in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own shoes and has forever performed barefoot as a reminder of all those less fortunate. Shortly after, she wrote a book about this experience, Between Two Hearts, which was released when she was 9, and she became the youngest ever published author in Norway. She also has helped raise over $20 million for children's charities since winning Norway's Got Talent. In fact she wanted to donate her winnings to the poor children! She is a gift to this world, and touches you in such a way that you quickly develop an emotional bond.

She is a real artist with a finely tuned instrument, but her ability to emote authentically & her musicality is amazing where she can take a classic, old song & totally re-interpret it into a different song that is new & beautiful.
