In this video, I demo and give my take on a new battery monitor series KH-F from Junctek www.junteks.com./ My main interest in the latest version is the low-temperature protection functionality. A big plus for people using lithium batteries in the cold. So a good portion of the video is testing that specific feature.
Other welcome updates include a plastic case for the shunt and revamped graphics for the display and app. Overall not a bad battery monitor for the price. For me, the cons are flimsy wiring and connectors and not very sophisticated tracking of the battery capacity. Frequent full charge cycles would be required to keep an accurate percent charged figure.

Solid State Relay - amzn.to/3KAhteR
Good review, not bad for $50 US full featured.
Hello, thank you for video . Can I use that monitor without the display, just using the Phone application ? In my RV battery too far from place for monitor Thank you for replay
Yes
Hi! Thanks so much for this walk through! Considering getting this model. Question on the relay. Shouldn't that be before the charge controller to stop the power from the panels from getting to the controller.
I was always told not to have panels connected to the charge controller unless it's connected to a battery or you will fly the controller. Be having the relay on that side, you are essentially disconnecting the battery while still leaving the panels connected to the controller.
The relay can go wherever you'd like to be able to open and close a circuit. It's up to you. So you can put it before the solar controller on the panel side if required for your controller. It will tell you in the solar controller manual. Cheers, Ray
@@LoveYourRV thank you for the reply!
Hello! Thank you for creating this video! I have a question regarding its usage. Can this be used with cars or car starter batteries? If yes, do I need a larger shunt due to the spike in current caused by the car starting? I want to monitor parasitic drain current, which is under 1A. However, I'm unsure if I need a larger shunt as my car battery has 500-600 cold crank amps (Honda Element 4.2L, 4 cylinder). I've seen many people using this product in RVs, but I'm not sure if they're using it on their starter battery or on their secondary/leisure battery only. I would appreciate any thoughts you may have on this. Unfortunately, I'm unable to reach the manufacturer.
Most people use it for deep cycle battery applications like in an RV or boat where they need to monitor for battery capacity left. A starter battery usually will stay near full charge anyway. But my guess would be since the shunt is built to handle 500A continuous load, it could likely handle more for a short duration like a starter motor.
@@LoveYourRV Hi, thanks so much. I’m reading that there’s a relay switch that you can wire into the system that offers both over under current protections, but I would like to see if someone has had success with it. Maybe the relay allows one to use the smallest shunt model for more accurate measurements of 5A or lower (both the parasitic drain and the solar charger I have on the battery are low current) but also not fry the system. But yes, I’m in a somewhat less common predicament … I have a low miles, perfect condition Honda Element (a great camping suv) but just discovered their one known issue is mysterious parasitic drains. I’m trying to keep this new battery alive (have had countless batteries now) until I can start deep diving the source of the drain.
I could use help with all the advanced settings if you feel like a description video ❤️
Are the data cable connectors RJ9 or RJ11? I need to get an extended cable, and don't have the unit yet.
Looks like it is an RJ9, you can see the connection here in the video ua-cam.com/video/KgjCxIGl7gQ/v-deo.html
@@LoveYourRV Thanks, I was staring at the clear plastic plug end which was blurry, and totally missed that the Jack is clearly shown! LOL
Thanks for the review. Purchased as a result.
You're welcome. :)
Looks like a good cheap unit. However, I am concerned about the constant bright display running all night.
How much parasite draw does it take ?
Is there a way to auto dim the display after no activity ?
Yes. Here is the manual 68.168.132.244/KH/Manual_en.pdf They list power consumption as 0.4 watts for the control unit and 0.5 watts for the display. The display brightness has dimmer settings for day and night plus an auto time out setting if desired 1 to 60 seconds. Cheers, Ray
Good morning, I wanted to ask you if the instrument, in addition to interrupting the circuit in case of low temperature, also interrupts the circuit in case of overvoltage or undervoltage set in the device -
Thank you
Yes those protections can be set also, I showed them here ua-cam.com/video/KgjCxIGl7gQ/v-deo.html
@@LoveYourRV Thanks so much !!!
The problem your talking baout at 15:29 dose this apply to devices like the renogy 500a as well?
If the Renogy has a setting for efficiency percentage it my work better if set to match natural the battery and wiring losses. No battery system is 100% efficient. Higher quality battery monitors usually have a charge efficiency factor setting you can play with the percentage value to try and match the losses in you particular system For example - www.victronenergy.com/media/pg/Lynx_Shunt_VE.Can/en/battery-monitor-settings.html#:~:text=9.6.-,Charge%20efficiency%20factor,actually%20stored%20in%20the%20battery.
@@LoveYourRV thanks mate, appreciate the link!
im using a 12V 190Ah LiFePO4 Lithium Battery 2432Wh 150 BMS and a 60A Rover Li MPPT Solar Charge Controller witch would be best 100a 400a or 600a im assuming the the 100a version?
I'd get the 400A version. It has the larger amperage shunt and doesn't cost much more. Never know you may want to add more battery power or use it in a different system in the future. Also you have a 150 amp BMS
@@LoveYourRV thats for quick reply it will be here in 12 days...well at least that's what the web page said on ali
low capacity seems like a good idea for any battery.
Great video, thanks!
Is the monitor on all time or off in 2~3 minutes ?
The setting can be adjusted to on all the time or off between a setting of 1 to 60 seconds. See page 17 of the manual 68.168.132.244/KH/Manual_en.pdf
Thank you, ordered today from Aliexpress @@LoveYourRV
Can it be monitored more than one battery 🔋🔋🔋🔋?
Only if they are part of the same battery bank. It can only monitor one battery or set of batteries connected together in one bank at a time.
Good product manufacturer need improve on the wifi cloud version though
New version and still no peukert effect... it's so simple I do not understand why it's not implemented.
I could be mistaken but one reason could be that the peukert effect doesnt really apply to modern lithium batteries most are using these with now?
I stopped using the last generation monitor when my lion ut1300 died with the meter showing 50% capacity left. All power was routed through the shunt so i'm not sure what i could have done wrong. Just figured I had donated 50$ to ali express.
I have used them to test different lithium batteries and they seemed pretty accurate. But like I said it needs to be charged back up to 100% quite often to stay accurate.
You certainly made a mistake.... this is just a coulomb meter, you got to use proper parameters and reach 100% SOC at least once a week. There is a hidden menu to set the 100% reset rules.
@@honumoorea873 Yes, I showed the menu and mentioned that fact
@@LoveYourRV where in the video did you show a secret menu.?
Ive ordered this model for my LiFePo4-200A.
@@DOCWHOK9did you get it? I have a 240ah battery that needs monitoring. Lmk. Thx
I have the same one but I can't get the damn thing to work with my phone. It's a nice shunt tho. Really glad I got it
What do you have Android or Apple?
Seems like an unfortunate brand name for an electronic device.
Yeah. :) I see their name is Hangzhou Junce Instruments so I guess the Junce part is combined with tek.
Junk Tech
Too bad it is only on Aliexpress
I assume it will make its way to Amazon, even if it has a different name. That's where I got my previous model. I've ordered a few things on Aliexpress. They took a bit longer shipping-wise but did come OK.
I have same one
do you like it ?
And?
Interesting product, terrible name ("junc"tek toes not inspire confidence, lol). ;-)
