I believe they chose this as their second single because it is practically the opposite of Noise. I enjoyed it very much, I'm not in the category that demands all heavy all the time from Nightwish, I've always liked their work in various styles. Also, nice Mononoke poster.
Coming from an old school Nightwish fan whose favorite Nightwish song is Sleeping Sun, I can say that I agree, Nightwish does not have to be heavy all the time!
The look on your face when Troy started to sing. Priceless. Thats the kind of reaction video i love to watch. Seriously this is a magnificent twist to the Nightwish story. Not many bands 20 odd years into a career can pull something as different as this out of the bag.
I love it when you geek out to be honest - that is what I expect from professionals reacting to songs. Yes, it is nice when they all go excited saying "oh, this song is great, flawless, effortless" and so on and so forth but...duh, we know. We want and we appreciate that you give us the theory behind the song, what they are doing , why they are doing, how they are doing. So, yes, feel free to geek out as much as you want, please!
@@ElvannReacts Yes, totally agree with G Jantschke: geek out! Your the only one of 100 reactors, that looks capable. The middle part is also more than average celtic. It's new, it's a bit more, and there's fun with signature. I think in the last chorus, at least one flute or pipe+ Empu had to continue middle part melodies right through the vocals to make the endfun complete. But ah, you can't have all.
@@janusvb - There are a couple of other reactors that are fully capable, but Elvann is the only one that consistently does Nightwish songs. I love Sam Scott Thorne (I think that's his name?) because he is very detailed and actually sounds like a vocal coach when he speaks. He's only done like, 1-2 Nightwish reactions, though. Elvann sounds equally competent, but is much more consistent with bringing us Nightwish content, and for that, I am very appreciative!
Just to reiterate: go for it. In all the "reactions" I've seen to GLS, I think only two have mentioned the alternating time signature in the opening section. And yet that's key to its slightly disturbing quality. I understand modal interchange and other tricks, but I want more examples pointed out to me so that I can start to recognise them. Getting a little tired of videos that are all about the singer and nothing about the musicality of the song. PS for great tutorials on technical aspects of music, I'd recommend Jake Lizio's channel Signal Music Studios. Or Rick Beato. Lots of good, accessible information.
@@garygwin1741 Speak for yourself sparky. Pretty sure you don't speak for all of us. "OMAHGERD they did sumptin different! REEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" Get over it. And yourself.
@@garygwin1741 I am not trying to haunt your comments, but it just happens... Sorry, but there are plenty of NIGHTWISH fans who will enjoy this greatly, not being all "give me back the power of 2001, or the darkness of 2005, or the..." C'mon it is clearly the same band, but time has gone on! This is not freaking MOTÖRHEAD. And overall, this is just one folky ballad-type song, in what might be (by the reports) a pretty heavy album. I did not really dig last album, which I found... simplistic... in places, but this is song different, simple yes, not that other word. :)
I assume it's Troy singing the main vocal. There was an interview somewhere where Tuomas said that this album uses the other voices in the band much more extensively - I think he even said something about all choruses using all three in harmony.
@@ElvannReacts Already on Endless Forms they sang the big chorusses like in TGSOE in three-voice harmony because they needed all the singing power they could get. I guess it worked out so well that they decided to do that more often. Also Troy sang the lead vocals of The Carpenter on the last tour, so to me it’s still evolution here, not revolution.
@@Harolddespui No idea. That is not what was said and not the feeling I got. There were two interviews I listened to -will post links and you can interpret for yourself - ua-cam.com/video/NtiPrmQU130/v-deo.html and the other was a Q&A - ua-cam.com/video/3myareVoQKA/v-deo.html
I do enjoy it when reactors go technical. I don't understand music at all. So when it explained to me I get to see a whole new way of looking at the song. Which usually leads me to appreciating it more, since now I understand the skill level involved in the songs.
Please be as geeky as you can be! With the majority of reactors being regular people this type of geeky content is rare. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who enjoys it and craves for more
Yeah, briefly analysed the song a bit and you got it right: the first half of the song is in the key of C major with some chords from C mixolydian mode. The heavy mid part goes back and forth between A and E minor/dorian. And the "water the field, surrender to the earth" -line sounds minor to me, as well, I think it is emphasising the key of A minor. So your intuitive analysis was absolutely right, you have a good ear :) Mixolydian and Dorian are veery common in folk music
Yeahe, I didn'T go too much into what I heard in therms of modes because I didn't want to loose everybody or get into very long explanations, but I think that's the case yeah, that does fit with what I was hearing right there! ;) I guess solfège and ear training and dictation years from university are paying off XD
It's Troy singing, and Nightwish do have some more celtic/folk songs like my Walden, I Want My tears Back, The Islander so this should not be a surprise and its no choir, it are Troy, Floor and Marko in harmony singing
Just so you know, "Choir" in a tecnical mannar of speech IS voices singing together creating harmonies. ALSO, she said that the more Celtic part of the song IS reminding of them to her, it's the more Pop-Celtic kind of part that for her is not in their chords, and I happen to agree with her.
This I have been waiting for all day... It's definitely different, but it's nice to hear Troy get a song, almost, all to himself... I'm really looking forward to the release of the album, because it seems like Tuomas is trying something completely new... :)
I love metal bands that are not afraid to experiment with their music from album to album. Unfortunately, there are very few such bands : Dream Theater, Metallica, and of course Nightwish come to mind first. It would be great if more popular metal bands didn't get hung up on the successful songwriting formula that once defined their style and were more willing to take creative risks.
What? Dream theater albums sound pretty much the same, especially since Portnoy left. There are TONS of metal bands that experiment from album to album, but I wouldn't consider Dream Theater to be one of them. You need to listen to more progressive/experimental metal bands.
@@Mjolnir125 We probably live in parallel universes and listen to different Dream Theater. Otherwise, I don 't understand how "the Astonishing" and "Distance over Time" can be considered the same- sounding albums. As for progressive/experimental bands, I've heard a lot of them . They are usually very technical guys who have learned everything there is to learn about instruments and theory, except for one thing: how to create good music.
@@SokolRock the astonishing is more theatrical than other dream theater albums, but the songs themselves are pretty similar in terms of composition. There are just more filler tracks and ballads (which dream theater aren't super good at). Distance over time sounds like nearly every other dream theater album. This isn't a bad thing if you like their style, but they definitely aren't changing their style significantly. I saw them on their past two tours where they played the astonishing in its entirety, and scenes from a memory in its entirety. Honestly I would classify dream theater as one of those bands who are very good technically, but not always the best at composition. Nightwish makes consistently stronger songs with fewer filler songs. However, they don't have that many albums. If you want an example of bands that actually change from album to album, go listen to the last few Leprous and Haken albums.
@@Mjolnir125 This discussion doesn 't make any sense: Everyone perceives music in their own way. I tried listening to Haken and I didn't like it at all. I 'm really annoyed by these "modern progressive" metal bands that all sound like a hybrid of Meshuggah and post-rock.
The beginning really reminded me a bit of the song "Graceland"from Paul Simon 😜 "Toss a Coin to your Tuomas" Oh and Troy sing with Floor singing Back up at some lines 😎Dunno if Marko does. Butt that middle is were Floor can dance her heart out onm Stage 👀😁😎
@Ian Stevenson You're right of course. Obviously there will be a unique live arrangement. He will certainly switch from playing one to the other as he does in other songs. Probably the keys will fill some of that gap. I am not too concerned. When it comes to live arrangements, Nightwish does not disappoint :)
I love that you go into some depth about technical stuff, i think looking at how Tuomas composes is really interesting, like when the band kicks in for the middle section in this song... There's some really cool stuff with how the instrumentation for the lead parts changes. Tuomas has this super cool way of altering the arrangement through songs to bring out different colors and emotions. I love nerding out on stuff like this but so many reaction channels just analyse Floor's vocals. It's the mind of Tuomas that i wanna dissect!
@@ElvannReacts He does some backing on I Want My Tears Back and a few others. I just saw an interview with him and Floor and he noted there would be some of this on Human Nature. They like the three part harmonies. As long as they don't overdo it, I'm cool with it. Floor is too good to make a backup singer. Spent 10 minutes looking up major vs minor, by they way. I still don't get it. I'm a music dullard! I just like when it sounds good vs sounds, you know... bad. ;)

Troy and Marko both can sing folkish metal so well in very different ways. My curiosity is very aroused, I admit... Elvann, feel free to geek out a bit as often as you want. As long as you don't leave us noobs completely behind, it's all for the better. Also, does the band name Skyclad ring any bells for you?
@Elvann my favorite Reaction go-to person, hits a home run with her Harvest video. Not a music person, probably because nobody took the time to explain music to me. Thanks for "geeking" out as it is educational for me. As for Nightwish / Human Nature (Harvest and Noise so far) I honestly think that the play on styles is purposeful. I cannot wait to see how the rest of this "Didn't start as a concept album but turned into one" actually turns out, in completeness. Yes, this was different, and yet still 100% Nightwish. IMHO: Something for everyone to love.
i don't get it how you guys just "assume" it's Troy. You have heard Floor, you have also heard Marco, and it doesn't sound like either of them.If you have watched Nightwish concerts, you should know that Troy is also a backing vocal at times. AND if you have watched an interview with Troy, you should know how his voice sounds like, at least that's how i immediately recognised it's him.
The album just came out so I could listen to this song (didn't want to be spoilered, except for Noise). I absolutely love it. It surprised me though that you were not only surprised by the male vocals but also didn't recognize Troy. Like... he sings in other NW songs too. You having such a fine ear for musical details not recognizing him while I (a complete laywoman) immeditately knew that it was him, was kind of funny for me. No critique here, it just made me chuckle. In any case, I love your reaction, as always, including all the information about major and minor... like I said I have not the slighted clue about it but found it very informative. Thank you! :)
Hi Elvann... It is an interesting song.. kind of vibes from some songs from Endless Forms.. but also the instrumental part is amazing!! And Troy in the lead vocals and Marko and Floor doing backing.. interesting.. Great video and extra treat this week!! Have a great weekend!!!.. and here I go.. Join the harvest of the hundred fields (that's being stick in my head since this morning.. aahhhh!!!)
Hey, great reaction again! I also loved that you went a bit music geek! I felt something was different about this song, but couldn't express it, since I'm only an uneducated listener. Thank you for explaning the theory behind what I was feeling.
Elvann I missed you! love your reactions. What a surprise, Troy?! I wasn’t prepare for this. It’s a new experimental song, love that. Started to like it at 3rd or 4th listenings, absolutely surprise!
Hey there, Elvann! And thank you 😊 That's Troy singing and Marko and Floor have their songs as well 😉 This song is definitley different, but I really like it 😁 It's definitely catchy & I hope it gets some radio airplay 😎 If you want to have some fun with major vs. minor examples, check out Chase Holfelder here on UA-cam. He's got a bunch of covers of popular songs that he's redone in a minor key. Country Roads (Take Me Home) by John Denver sounds SO DIFFERENT in a minor key!!! Have a fantastic evening 😎
I almost feel scared to admit that I like this! I admit I was surprised as the song opened, even knowing that Troy was taking lead vocals, but it quickly grew on me and every listen since has only increased my liking. Sure, it's not the typical Nightwish we're all used to but I have no problem with a band wanting to keep things fresh ... and it's not like the entire album is going to sound like this!
Please do geek out! You're one of the few people that actually analyze songs rather than going "OMG, dis is gr8". I may not understand it at all times, but the little on screen notes help so thank you for that!
Love the initial confused look on your face followed by the huge smile, this was my feeling exactly. I love this song. Now I have to go and listen to YOUR song.
This Song is totally Nightwish!!! If You listen to songs like Moondace and Arabesque you'll find the resemblance... The writing feels un between Imaginaerum and EFMB ... But this definetely goes way back to their roots. Missing a bit of Floor but we knew this Song was made for Troy. Again Human Nature as a concept álbum is amazing. Great song
So sick that you recognozed the A major key! I think a lot of us felt the same way in the first minutes of the song, "is this Nightwish?" I am getting used to it, albeit I must relent there was a part of me thinking, please become more Nightwishy! This is by far ny favourite reaction video ANYWHERE because of your depth. It also serves to show your excellent musicianship and knowledge, and you do it with passion and grace. Thank You!
Awwwn thank you so much, this goes straight to my heart ❤️❤️❤️ I feel sometimes it can be a delicate balance between being too technical or not giving enough info!
Yes, this is still Nightwish. I am really hooked on the new album. And my (poor) kids have to listen to the music every morning to get up. Meanwhile they "howl" it along like little wolves.
Same here, we have a german band 'Faun' who make medieval (ish) celtic (ish) folk (ish) stuff. All the 6 members play at least 3 instruments, 4 of them are vocalists (not all of them sing at every song though). Their concerts are always a stage full of different instruments and a bunch of microphones, and the members just switch between them all the time :D This one reminds me particularly of the songs 'Sonnenreigen - Lughnasadh' (Roundelay of the sun) and 'Federkleid' (Feather Dress/Feathers) from their album 'Midgard'. It seems similar in text, video images and especially the feeling/mood.
Are we the same person when we are 16 years old, 30 years old and 50 years old? Yes and no. We change, we evolve, we do and see things in a different way. "Is this even Nightwish?" Yes, it's Nightwish because it has the "Nightwish DNA", but they are exploring different sounds. We have Nightwish 1.0 with Tarja, Nightwish 2.0 with Anette, Nightwish 3.0 when Floor joined as front woman and this is kind of "Nightwish 3.5". Troy's influence is getting stronger on the sound, at least in this song, but it's still 100% Nightwish.
I think it is Nightwish, no doubt about it. Still... I wasn't even sure until middle of the song when the song got a nice doze of "Metal". If we consider the main thematic around this new album, the song as itself is... Kind of expected, but at the same time, is rich, energic, positive, and dared to be different, without losing what gave Nightwish their hype and fame. I like it :)
Please, geek out all you like, it's what I'm here for! I'm not a music theory expert, but your analysis always helps to better understand the music I'm listening to!
Don't apologize for actually explaining the technical details of a Nightwish song! That's honestly the reason a lot of us watch reactions from "vocal coaches". If we wanted to see a dumbed down version of a reaction, we would watch Mr. Rock N Roll or something that is more of just a "normal person" reaction.
Troy donockely is the singer. He's been doing miscellaneous instruments for nightwish for years and has been a member for a while, he's even done some vocals too, but background. He also sang in a project he had with tuomas and tuomas' wife which you might know called auri
Troy already had a long career way before he came to Nightwish. I actually came to Nightwish through him as I knew him as a member of celtic progrock band Iona in which he played many Uillean pipes, bouzouki and whistles.
I hope that someplace in the comments it says what that the first disc is strictly the band. NO OUTSIDE HELP! All the vocals, all the instruments...everything was Nightwish. That's how good they are.
I read somewhere that Tuomas did intentionnally put serious/grave lyrics on a 'happy' tune, and the major key helps conveying that feeling. I actually quite enjoy hearing Troy singing on such a song, I love Floor, but sometimes I'm so taken by her voice that I forget to listen to the instruments... Here I can enjoy the instrumental behind the voice! (Oh and that part were you said that's Nightwish was a theme that also appeared in "Noise")
Now with this, has anybody left with any doubt that Troy is an excellent musician? Nightwish on their way to be the next Jethro Tull of the 21st Century. Amazing, amazing stuff!
In NOISE (first single) shows the artificiality, vices of technology created by human, changing the perception of their environment. In HARVEST (second single) there's an invitation, a answer to technological excess, valuing bucolic life and promoting nature for better days to come. A POETIC AND INSPIRING CONNECTION!
Great reaction, please do a more deeper analysis every now and then like you did in this case. It’s very interesting to get to know more about the composition, the key etc. A year ago I started to listen to classical music and learned a lot of stuff, like sonata form etc. Really loved your reaction and the song. I had the same thought in the beginning: Is this really Nightwish? But the more I listen to the song, the better I like it. Great job on this reaction video!
I don't know much about technology, and music. Just a personal feeling. Quite a lot of people said that they didn't like the first half of the song, and I found it quite interesting. You can feel the gradual change in the song, the beginning sounds like a labor rhythm (of the farmer who is harvesting the crop), and when other factors add up, it seems that the work is near the end, everyone can talk a little bit, the kids can run in the field to pick up the still scattered grains and seeds. And when night came, they danced by the bonfire to celebrate the bumper harvest. I can picture it as a movie when listening to this song. That's why I'm a bit disappointed that the official video is not what I envisioned. But about the song I feel totally fine. I like the joy of the melody (although the lyrics are not entirely). Joy can be as deep as sadness as well as all other emotions. I can imagine the new album will explore many aspects of human emotions. Noise is quite angry and bewildered. And this song is cheerful and serene. I had to use google translate to write this paragraph but actually my thoughts were too complicated to write in a language I was not fluent in. Sorry to those who try to read this comment
*This track comes musically in the tradition of previous Celtic-/Folk-inspired Nightwish-tracks like the instrumentals "Moondance", "Last Of The Wilds" or songs like "The Islander" and "I Want My Tears Back"....and maybe influenced by older original scores like "Lord Of The Dance" [by Ronan Hardiman] and "The Boondock Saints" ["The Blood Of Cu Chulainn" / "Blood Of Cu Chulainn 2010" by Jeff & Mychael Danna]. I instantly liked the track, maybe because the Nightwish-tracks and the original scores I mentioned are some of my favourites in general.*
The harmonizing of this song is sounding awesome. I always enjoy songs that harmonize the lyrics and am surprised this is Nightwish but it sounds so good.
I'm sick of people say, "is this Nightwish?" ...Nightwish has made this so it is Nightwish! Plain and simple :) Maybe some people don't like it but it is Nightwish.....
Love your reactions! Thinking major and minor keys, in my experience metal and rock very rarely use major keys, except for US-style AOR - Journey, REO Speedwagon and the rest. I know Deep Purple's catalogue inside out and I don't think there's a single original song completely in a major key. I have to say though that to me many of the saddest songs are in major keys. As I write my wife's playing Hamburg Song by Keane - one of the saddest and most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Oh, and now she's playing It Must Have Been Love by Roxette! Keep putting the technical bits in. X
Hello dear, so nice to see your reaction to the new Nightwish song! I've just seen it myself one time before I've got your notification...yeah, and I also think it's totally different from the first single and also from what you expect from Nightwish, at least the first part...I also like Troys voice, and at the end the whole song is amazing, the more often you listen to it...and who would be more capable to make a distinctive reaction and analysis than you:-)😍
The Celtic inspiration comes from Troy Donockley, a great addition to the band. And the vocalist for this song, Marco Heitla, has lead some Nightwigh songs especially "The Islander" and paired really well with the formal lead singer Tarja Turunen. Just watch the "End of an Era" DVD and you will see the the greatness of Marco.
This isn't Marco, that's in fact Troy singing in this one. I just didn't know he did sing in this album. As for old Nightwish, if you look around my channel a bit, you'll see that I actually know of it quite a lot 😂 Welcome around here!
@@ElvannReacts I stand corrected. I am man enough to admit when I am wrong. Troy is not listed as a lead vocal in the album brochure and when Floor is not the lead, in the past it has always been Marco. Troy kind of sounds a lot like Marco though. My apologies my dear.
In between a few negative reactions I've read about it saying this is not Nightwish, I particularly loved it, it made me think of Africa, then Ireland, England, in ancient times, a village, people there, like a little fairy tale in my mind, I'm an aspiring writer going through a writer's block for weeks now and their music did again, activated my imagination, it is very different from what we are used to hear from NW but in my opinion, it is a beautiful change
Try to notice the scenery at the end of Noise. It's the same at the beginning & end of Harvest. So after a life in Noise our bodies will "Water the field, surrender to the earth".
That piano-theme is actually an adaption of a piano-theme by Thomas Bergersen from one of the pieces he has made for "Two Steps From Hell" (I don't remember which one it's about a million songs in their catalog) -I don't know the relation between Tuomas and Thomas but Bergersen ripped a piece of "The Siren" and pasted it into one of his songs (Dragon Rider) some years ago.
All I want to see is Floor, adorably dancing onstage, as Troy takes the lead on this song. And it just goes to show the versatility of Tuomas' genius in his composition ability. Edit: The lyrics that talk about "going back to a single grain" talks about every person being able to be traced back to a common ancestor -- not to mention that the Earth aspect is an embodiment of the Christian philosophy of "ashes to ashes, dust to dust." And another song that I feel is a major key would be Elan, along with Edema Ruh. Both songs have a happy feel to them.
This was the first song I heard from Human :||: Nature and I remember I was so disappointed with the sound. I loved the album from the first second though, and Harvest grew on me. No I like it.
Song of myself starts in G Major? (changing to e minor, hence "all that remains is the change from G to e minor" - the trick of course being that they use the same scale)
Please be as geeky as you like - as someone with no musical training it is fascinating to find out why things sound the way they do! It does have a very Celtic/folky feel, so in a way it is Tuomas getting back to his roots... 1996 - Tuomas: I want to form a folky band... *hears Tarja sing* OK, Symphonic metal it is.... 2020 - Tuomas: Now, what was I gonna do when I started the band? Have a listen to this... Another great reaction, keep up the good work.
It was different, but I really liked it. It combines symphonic metal and Celtic folk, both of which are favorites of mine, and, for a moment, it took me to a different time, a different realm. A mellow pagan pilgrimage into nature with a hint of "I Want My Tears Back." Was it purposeful? I think so, it was a counterpoint to "Noise" in that it celebrated nature, after "Noise" showed the destruction we wrought when we industrialized the world, and more and more of nature vanished as a result, and now, so many walk around with their heads engrossed in their screens that they no longer see the beauty that a single moment in time can be. Anyway, I'm rambling, a great reaction as always, and great analysis!
I find it a bit odd that someone who is a Nightwish fan doesn't recognize Troy's voice.. With that said, great reaction. Nice to see someone who appreciates and understand songwriting react to music. Most don't. This song is a really good one. Cheers
Hey, when you geek out about music terminology, whether or not I fully understand it is irrelevant. I think it's cool to hear you pick up on musical details that most of us wouldn't notice. It helps me appreciate the craft that goes into the song even more!
I like this song. And cos new album disc 1 have 9 totally different kind of song, cannot wait. We have heard now 2 of them. And this disc 1 is this HUMAN side. So these all songs describes somehow us. "Noise" and "Harvest" feels like opposites to each other. Tuomas has said this album is thematic album. So each song is going/circulate around "HUMAN", like different angle of us.
Basically, Tuomas wrote it because it’s what he was creating and then he realised it was a concept album. He wrote a concept album without realising it until it came down to naming the album. 😂
Think about it this way, since you caught on to how Noise sounds like and incorporated a lot of that classic Nightwish vibe into the song. The premise of Noise being about humans and their addiction to social media and what goes on around it. The contrast of that to Harvest here being more aligned with nature and the natural course of life is so completely opposite. Hence the name of the album: Human :||: Nature. This fits in perfectly. Musically, this has elements of Celtic rock, like Tempest, with a punch of Nightwish meets Dream Theater. Perfect for Troy. This will be great to see live, especially if Troy can pull off all the instruments he's playing in this. I hear the pipes, flute, and some of them played together, then sharing the melody with Emppu on guitar. So it will be interesting to see if he pulls this off live, as this song screams live!

Took the words right out of my mouth.
If you've listened to Tuomas's side projects (Scrooge and Auri) this song sounds like it has come from those albums
Definitely.
Should keep it with the Side Projects. Nightwish fans are not listening to hear this.
@@garygwin1741 Stop trolling
they did exactly what they said they would do with vocal's, less choir more harmonies between Troy, Marko and Floor.
I assume it's Troy singing the main vocal. There was an interview somewhere where Tuomas said that this album uses the other voices in the band much more extensively - I think he even said something about all choruses using all three in harmony.
That sounds like it can be a nice idea to do that actually! ^^
In a Marko interview earlier this week, he said that that he, Floor and Troy would be having a lot more ensemble singing and sharing of leads.
@@lakelili So basically, Floor can revive After Forever or Revamp and stopping by with Nightwish from time to time as a guest singer?
And I'm sure I'm not the only one who enjoys it and craves for more
yeaheeee let's say it's quiiiite niche hahahaha
How people can not absolutely adore this song. It's folk meets Nightwish meets Disney musical. It's perfect
Yeahe, I didn'T go too much into what I heard in therms of modes because I didn't want to loose everybody or get into very long explanations, but I think that's the case yeah, that does fit with what I was hearing right there! ;)
I guess solfège and ear training and dictation years from university are paying off XD
@@ElvannReacts Your university years didn't go to waste then! :) Great job
It's Troy singing, and Nightwish do have some more celtic/folk songs like my Walden, I Want My tears Back, The Islander so this should not be a surprise and its no choir, it are Troy, Floor and Marko in harmony singing
i'm excited how this will make out on live stage, when all three sing this song together
@@torsten.breswald yea can't wait for it
Last of the wild is probably the most celtic/folk song they did till today
@@torsten.breswald Tuomas said every song in the Human part of the album has everyone singing in the chorus
I feel like I can’t judge a Nightwish song until I hear it live!!
You could react to The Carpenter Buenos Aires 2018. Nightwish is really trying to utilize all of their talent in this album
Come cover me is another one where they show the talent of them all so well
I love metal bands that are not afraid to experiment with their music from album to album. Unfortunately, there are very few such bands : Dream Theater, Metallica, and of course Nightwish come to mind first. It would be great if more popular metal bands didn't get hung up on the successful songwriting formula that once defined their style and were more willing to take creative risks.
I think its more of a style the composer has and he cant go away from this because he/she is just not able to create something totally different
Type: "The Carpenter Buenos Aires 2018" to watch Troy singing what was originally Tuomas' part in NW first single ever
This will be a great live song.
Green-Lyon absolutely agree
@Ian Stevenson You're right of course. Obviously there will be a unique live arrangement. He will certainly switch from playing one to the other as he does in other songs. Probably the keys will fill some of that gap. I am not too concerned. When it comes to live arrangements, Nightwish does not disappoint :)
Oh, and please do go into more technical detail. I, for one, would really appreciate it.
😎😎😎
I love that you go into some depth about technical stuff, i think looking at how Tuomas composes is really interesting, like when the band kicks in for the middle section in this song... There's some really cool stuff with how the instrumentation for the lead parts changes. Tuomas has this super cool way of altering the arrangement through songs to bring out different colors and emotions. I love nerding out on stuff like this but so many reaction channels just analyse Floor's vocals. It's the mind of Tuomas that i wanna dissect!
Troy's singing.
Yes! That's him apparently! :D Never heard him before!

Join the harvest of the hundred fields (that's being stick in my head since this morning.. aahhhh!!!)
Yeahee it is so catchy!!! :D
@@ElvannReacts I saw an interview with Floor and she confirmed my guessing... This record could be considered as a sequel of EFMB....
Great song, even if it is outside their normal element. That is what good artists do, and they did it very well!
Ahh so it is Troy! Makes sense!!! :D He's really the lead in this whole son then! ^^ Have a fantastic evening as well!!
Troy's voice sounds so peaceful in this song.
You should feel happy, not scared. Being close-minded isn't a virtue.
Join the rest of us who are happy along with you! 🥰
Dont be scared to like it, the more i hear this song the more I love it!
Great reaction. I loved the shock and disbelief on your face and checking if it is Nightwish. Priceless, like some else mentioned!
hello from sweden. currently rediscover Nightwish. trying to understand the craft behind nightwish. you are helping me a lot. thank you.
Please do geek out! You're one of the few people that actually analyze songs rather than going "OMG, dis is gr8". I may not understand it at all times, but the little on screen notes help so thank you for that!
I have to admit on my first listen to the song I really wasn’t sure about the first half. But after a few listens it’s grown on me so much!
Even though it's soooo different from any other Nightwish songs I really like it. I smiled all day yesterday since I listened to it.
Love the initial confused look on your face followed by the huge smile, this was my feeling exactly. I love this song. Now I have to go and listen to YOUR song.
Great to hear Troy singing. Ì can already hear the crowd singing the chorus.
The combination of metal and Celtic elements is so unexpected beautiful when I first heard it! 🤟🏼🤟🏼
This song kind of reminds me of a local group here in Newfoundland, in the 70's and 80's, that used to fuse rock and Celtic sounds called Figgy Duff.
Same here, we have a german band 'Faun' who make medieval (ish) celtic (ish) folk (ish) stuff. All the 6 members play at least 3 instruments, 4 of them are vocalists (not all of them sing at every song though). Their concerts are always a stage full of different instruments and a bunch of microphones, and the members just switch between them all the time :D
This one reminds me particularly of the songs 'Sonnenreigen - Lughnasadh' (Roundelay of the sun) and 'Federkleid' (Feather Dress/Feathers) from their album 'Midgard'. It seems similar in text, video images and especially the feeling/mood.
@@olgahein4384 Sounds like a fun concert.

Thanks for actually going into technical terms. I couldn't put my finger on the "thing" that makes it so different and odd...
Thanks alot for that :D
If thats not Andy Bell from Erasure I don’t know what is
Are we the same person when we are 16 years old, 30 years old and 50 years old?
Man I love your thought process. I have commented elsewhere almost to the same effect, but you got the "right" metaphor. :) \m/
Love you always, Elvann. just as you are!!! Keep doing you... Your way!
Always expect the unexpected from Nightwish 🤟 i really love any song by them 😍
Don't apologize for actually explaining the technical details of a Nightwish song! That's honestly the reason a lot of us watch reactions from "vocal coaches". If we wanted to see a dumbed down version of a reaction, we would watch Mr. Rock N Roll or something that is more of just a "normal person" reaction.
It is Troy! He plays the pipes. It might be his first and i want him to go on and keep on doing singing as well.
Yup geek out. I'm new to music theory and key changes and things are super interesting to me.
Troy donockely is the singer. He's been doing miscellaneous instruments for nightwish for years and has been a member for a while, he's even done some vocals too, but background. He also sang in a project he had with tuomas and tuomas' wife which you might know called auri
Julien Walker look up his prior work with Iona
Love the geeky explanation! You put my thoughts to words, since I have no musical knowledge.
On the album Troy sings one song and Marko one... the rest of the songs Floor...
I love it, the way you analyse song . good job.
I absolutely love your reactions.
Similar to Space Between by Auri, Tuomas project.
This song is all about Troy, He sang lead and featured with his pipes and whistles during the instrumental portion of the song.
The harmonizing of this song is sounding awesome. I always enjoy songs that harmonize the lyrics and am surprised this is Nightwish but it sounds so good.
Love your technical stuff the best!
I'm sick of people say, "is this Nightwish?" ...Nightwish has made this so it is Nightwish! Plain and simple :) Maybe some people don't like it but it is Nightwish.....
I think you didn’t watch the video 😂
my first reaction was .. a 'taste' of Jethro Tull at times
I was thinking The Lion King.
Edward I thought the same. Just with a more sane Ian Anderson. 😂
Your not the only person to say this.
To me it sounds like at the end of each chorus, Troy switches to singing harmony while some of the the background singers sing melody
As for old Nightwish, if you look around my channel a bit, you'll see that I actually know of it quite a lot 😂
Welcome around here!
@@ElvannReacts I stand corrected. I am man enough to admit when I am wrong. Troy is not listed as a lead vocal in the album brochure and when Floor is not the lead, in the past it has always been Marco. Troy kind of sounds a lot like Marco though. My apologies my dear.
I just woke up and i see this new reaction from a new song, that's a perfect breakfast 😂
Also, the solo piano melody is the same (or extremely similar) for both songs. 😊
I'm pretty sure that the members of Nightwish would take "that doesn't even sound like Nightwish" as a compliment.
The piano reminds me of Epica - Seif Al Din. Great to hear Nightwish has evolved as a band
All I want to see is Floor, adorably dancing onstage, as Troy takes the lead on this song.
And it just goes to show the versatility of Tuomas' genius in his composition ability.
Edit: The lyrics that talk about "going back to a single grain" talks about every person being able to be traced back to a common ancestor -- not to mention that the Earth aspect is an embodiment of the Christian philosophy of "ashes to ashes, dust to dust."
And another song that I feel is a major key would be Elan, along with Edema Ruh. Both songs have a happy feel to them.
Troy, Floor, and Marco make an awesome trio
This was the first song I heard from Human :||: Nature and I remember I was so disappointed with the sound. I loved the album from the first second though, and Harvest grew on me. No I like it.
I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that 'Amaranth' 'Alpenglow' and 'Elan' is written in a major key.
GingafanOfNorway alpenhlow is under rated
Song of myself starts in G Major? (changing to e minor, hence "all that remains is the change from G to e minor" - the trick of course being that they use the same scale)
E aeolian is in G Major scale naturally, but it could be E Dorian if they sound change is different than the route of G
Another great reaction, keep up the good work.
everyone felt so, but suddenly...... Hold my beer..THE AMAZING!!!
Cheers
This REALLY reminds me of Ayreon, actually. Especially the chorus!
Ecthelion I was thinking the same thing!

I love the song, I would criticize it got not having a key change? I felt the need for a toward the end.
Hey, when you geek out about music terminology, whether or not I fully understand it is irrelevant. I think it's cool to hear you pick up on musical details that most of us wouldn't notice. It helps me appreciate the craft that goes into the song even more!
I think we can see this song like the islander for Marko, this one is for Troy. Where Troy can show his musical skills.
Thx for getting into the meaning. That hugely pays off with Tuomas' way of creating art.
I believe it maybe a concept album
I got the same idea
Basically, Tuomas wrote it because it’s what he was creating and then he realised it was a concept album. He wrote a concept album without realising it until it came down to naming the album. 😂
Wow thanks for taking the time to inform me
Tom Nagel Is that sarcasm?
No just a realization
Please 'geek out', it's great to learn from someone who knows what they are talking about, and it adds to understanding of the music .
