This is an awesome video. This is exactly what we got quotes for to be done by contractors/hardscapers and they all came back over $16k. Insane. For a 15ft patio pit area. This video gives me confidence that we can do this ourselves!
Well done! And enjoyed the humor in it as well! Thank you for sharing all the details and what you would have done differently, AND the cost breakdown!
Looks good. I’m thinking of doing something similar with mine, but perhaps using cobblestone instead. And after doing a couple of tiger projects, sheds, I agree, removing the grass is the hardest part. We’ll that and carrying the pavers from the store to truck, from truck to yard, then from yard to their final location. You’ve made a New subscriber out of me. Us average dads need to stick together
I've done that kind of work before at a rental property and in my own yard. It's back-breaking work! I like your channel. Subbed. See you on the Discord.
Doing some spice ups on my house, and you've convinced me to go "all out" and make a flagstone patio as well. Looks fantastic! Well edited video, love the drone shots and the great voice over. Keep it up, cant wait to see you blow up. New sub!
Would love to hear an update regarding how much sinking / settling occurred over the last couple of years. We're considering doing this and not digging down the 8" I'm seeing that people recommend on some sites!
Hey BB, not much settling, I’ve put out another bucket of sand and spread it around but overall the settling has been minimal. I can send you a picture if you email me
@BBuncky2 I came to ask the same question! @AverageDadChannel great video and thank you for sharing the update! I'm about as thrifty as it gets...so I really love your content. Thank you for sharing your spice with us all 🤓
Thanks MKA! Are you talking about the fire pit surround bricks? I went back later and made it a “smokeless” fire pit (also have a video on it) and wanted to be able to adjust or rework as needed. I about have it how I want now, so may use high temp construction adhesive between them this fall so they stay put.
Hey Mike, honestly I just didn’t think to add it at the time (somewhat followed Bro Build’s patio video and they didn’t use any). It probably would’ve been good to do, but very surprisingly in retrospect, after 12 months we haven’t had any weeds in the gaps. If I go back and put down polymeric sand this fall hopefully that will negate any concerns going forward.
@npamike, it's not really necessary, doesn't last that long, and adds time and cost to the project. Some are also concerned that many weed barriers are made from plastics that will pollute the soil as they break down. The way Mister @AverageDadChannel has done this lovely job, any weeds that try to take root will just be on the surface of the sand and can easily be removed by hand 😎
Facebook marketplace, it was an exceptional deal but usually you can find people selling some that never carried through on a project or did a large project and had leftover
Hey Neil, I’m not positive as I bought it off fb marketplace, but I would guess it’s sandstone (I’m in the Midwest if that helps at all). It was all about 1.75 to 2” thick.

Subscribed! After this video I feel I can try this out too!
Thanks Robin!
True homeowner hard work! Thank you!
Thanks Stacey! Always trying to put some sweat equity into the house

Hey Carla, your welcome, glad you enjoyed it
This video was very clear. I enjoyed your voice over. You did a wonderful job with your fire pit and flagstone patio.
Thank you for the kind words Stay

Thanks! And agreed haha
This looks great! You strike me as the type of dad who has good taste in donuts and one wheeled vehicles
I laughed and I learned. Thanks for the video, AD. This turned out great.
Thanks for the rave review Ariel, glad you enjoyed it
About to start this project in my backyard. Great video!
Thanks Chris, good luck!

Hey Levi, thanks for the feedback! Glad it entertained and inspired, and I really appreciate the sub.
Cheers

Thanks Dr. Bush! I’m all about the hot deals
Liked and "Subscibed"!!!
looks very good!
Thanks PS
Looks good!!!
Thanks Luke!
OMG. What state you live in where you got flagstone for 100$? Here in Maine a pallet cost 750$ plus delivery. Pallet only covers 130 sq/ft
Facebook marketplace! I bet you could find someone with leftover for a couple hundred
Awesome❤
Looks awesome. Why did you decide to not cement the bricks together?

@@AverageDadChannel Yeah - there is a split amongst folk about that and was just curious as to your thought process.
Good Job
Thanks Darrell!
Nice😊
Thanks!
Hello what was the size of you circle from edge to edge in the center? Nice work!
The entire patio is 15 ft in diameter and the pit area is about 32" in diameter
thanks for watching!
Average Dad, above average fire pit.
Above average comment, thanks Jared!
Wow your epic
epic comment.
Is there a reason you didn't opt to put in a weed barrier?

What type of sand?
Hey Tyler, I just used generic construction sand and it has held up fine, almost no weeds still after 2 years
where did you get your stones from?
Menards!
Where did you get that much flagstone for 100$?
Facebook marketplace, it was an exceptional deal but usually you can find people selling some that never carried through on a project or did a large project and had leftover
@@AverageDadChannel great idea, not sure why I didn’t think of that
What type of Flagstone is this?

How to secure the edge
It’s been working fine without a defined “edge” for us but I’ve seen others use brick pavers as a border
Looks great!
Thanks Mr. Brian
@@AverageDadChannel You are very welcome Mr. Average Dad 😀
