Just an average dad making mediocre videos about house/dad stuff.

Normal to Hidden Door: DIY
In this video I take a standard interior door and make it disappear into a slat accent wall. I've seen some other impressive videos of people hiding doors this way, including the one that inspired me to do this project by @DesignCraftWorkshop (linked below). In his video though he custom makes both the door AND door frame, all with some fancy green and black tools, so I set out to find a way to achieve a similar result with far less skill (and if you thought I was referencing Ryobi tools, that’s very cute, you’re the target audience for this video)

One of the Coolest Things I’ve Made [@DudeDad winner]
Переглядів 5733 місяці тому
Check out the DIY mini golf hole I built for the 2024 Dude Dad Mini Golf Open (yes that's a real thing). The event was held at New Belgium Brewery in Fort Collins, CO, with proceeds from playing the holes going to RespiteCare. Based on the free computer game Space Cadet, the hole features interactive pinball mechanics that give the player a chance at a birdie or hole-in-one. It was a lot of wor...

Exposed ceiling beams, a living room's way of showing a little skin. I'll show you how I made these out of different material than wood, that was cheaper and easier to install. Yes, this foam could be a fire hazard, this video is meant for entertainment purposes ONLY, copy at your own risk and peril blah blah blah…. Ultimate DIY Cat ‘Tree’
Переглядів 37 тис.Рік тому
When was the last time you saw someone's cat tree and thought "wow, what a nice piece of furniture". In this video I try to change that by building a cat tree/tower (potato/potatoe) out of one large driftwood piece. I made some mistakes along the way and discovered what electric scissors were. DIY Faux Boxwood Wall
Переглядів 1,1 тис.Рік тому
Checkout how I transform a wall in our nursery from plain-jane to trendy plant accent wall with just a couple hours and a staple gun. To accomplish this I’ll use faux boxwood panels off marketplace and Amazon. This is a pretty easy project and relatively affordable project as far as accent walls go, I'd recommend it Affiliate Links: Boxwood Panel Option A - amzn.to/3OBEWj2 Boxwood Panel Option ...
DIY Car Rust Repair (no experience)
Переглядів 1,7 тис.Рік тому
In this video I'll fix a rust spot on my old Audi S4 using a kit from 3M and paint from TouchUpDirect. There are definitely some things I could've done better, or will do different next time, but overall it turned out pretty good for having zero bodywork experience. Lesson learned- don’t be afraid to go out and try something new! Affiliate Links: Rust spot kit: amzn.to/43yacU3
Easy Backyard Steps Improvement
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Рік тому
In this video I'll redo our old worn-out backyard steps that lead down to our patio by changing out the wood treads for composite boards, and the wood balusters for flat aluminum ones. I'll also fill in some of the cracks where the wood is deteriorating with Bondo wood filler. Awesome work! I love Larry David! He’s pretty, pretty, pretty good!
Thanks!
🎉looks great But what does it look like with the door opened? I have a corner of my bedroom that has three doors and would LOVE to the final look you got
Amazing execution. I have to assume you are somewhat artistic or do some sort of artist work for employment? The knots and grain look amazing
Unfortunately not, thanks for the compliment though!
Yuck
Appreciate the feedback
@AverageDadChannel using marker to emulate the holes was a bad idea. Why not find a drill bit the correct size?
Nice. I would have removed the return vent cover…painted the inside and run the slats right over it. Good work.
Ya this would’ve been a good idea, thought about putting black mesh over it and having the slats go down through it like you said, but it’s covered up by furniture for our setup so decided against the extra effort
@ Very nice work
The fire pit is too large, or the fire too small- this is why it is not smokeless.
Love it…would like to do the same thing at my home. Thank you for making the video!
you probably spend more on materials than you would have on a couple years worth of electricity from that draft.
Had most of it leftover from other projects but otherwise you may be right, but also our room was very asymmetrically cold near the fireplace so this helps a lot with that
This is great!! I’m currently in the middle of the exact same project. I’ve been avoiding the hinge installation because I’m terrified I’m going to mess up the door. I 3D printed spacers to keep the boards level, but never thought to print up a router guide for the hinge alignment. Such a good idea!
Thanks, good luck on the hinges!
From a distance it looks perfect and impressive, well done! I’d probably have incorporated a skirting board with hidden up lighting and mirrored the same up to the ceiling. Those dark gaps are excellent for hiding led strips. Lighting will transform it into another dimension. Well, you did ask. 😂 🏴😇
Thanks! Yes have seen some really cool lit walls, maybe I’ll add that one day
Done that 30 years ago.
Doubt it
Awesome video man. Very creative!
Thanks for watching!
What is the purpose of the light switch innthe middle of the wall? Did you think about flipping it around so it is used from the opposite side and you dont interrupt the slat side?
Light switch was existing and I didn’t want to go to the trouble of relocating it on another wall
@AverageDadChannel oh, I meant the other side of the same wall so it's in the other room. But I don't know what it does. Thanks for response all the same.
Why's your TV not centered
To drive engagement
Looks great! I have seen a few of these walls and am always curious how much of a pain they are to dust/clean long term.
We shall see, not thinking about that right now 😆
Thank you for sharing all your tips and mistakes!!!!! 👏🫶❤
Thanks for watching
Great job! It looks good! I can not imagine holding real wood beams over my head!
So essentially just use crack filler and then paint over it
Bro has the same exact garbage disposal but it was much more dirty🤔🤔
Did you show which paint color you used?
I am a finish trim carpenter, and have built faux beams of various complexity for my GC's clients and I can assure you that they pay (him, not me) a lot more than a few hundred dollars for a whole room! I watched this because I like seeing creative and frugal solutions. It's very impressive for a DIY homeowner! I'm about to build a few beams for my own house, and I'm not sure if I will do this myself, mostly to avoid the ridicule and shaming when my boss comes over to see the finished house that I've been working on for almost two years! Clever idea! 😎
very nice idea and workmanship. However in most jurisdictions, exposed polystyrene foam can't be left uncovered due to its toxic smoke if there is a fire. If it is exposed in an occupied space, it must be covered by wood, gypsum, or cement. . My building inspector nailed me on that. I learned the hard way.
Wow
Great work ! I have same.idea but in my case the door is inward. So you have any suggestions if the door.opens other way ? Please advise. Your video will be my referrence
Likely you could still use the slats to cover the break between door and wall, those slats would just be attached to the wall instead of the door
Very cool! If I get brave enough to attempt this - I may use some joist hangers to sell the illusion. Well done, Sir!
Why wouldn’t you just stick the needle nose down into the drain while it’s all still connected? It’s basically the same difference without the extra work.
Great video. I would like to try something like this, but how would you go about calculating the distance for the door and end up with equal slats the whole way over the wall.
I started with a slat at the hinge area then calculated spacing to get it to overlap the wall in the “handle” side, then just continued on with that spacing on both sides of the door to the wall
Best hidden door on YT. Loved your video.
was this a 2022 Kitchen Aid ..dishwasher
LG I believe
La barbaridad de malas decisiones que tomo😅, muy gracioso el video, se disfrutó
You’re a wizard harry!
Oof. Thanks for sharing the stain drama. Solid tip
Quite the debacle
thank you
wow looks amazing!!
Amazing
Ok i need 13
Perfect loop 😳🔥
I love this project if like to do it for two side by side doors, one is a ventilating door for the air conditioning inflow. What could I do to hide it but have proper air inflow to the air handler?
they look amazing!
Couldn't live with that switch not being centered
What door.. we dont need no door..😂❤
I wish I listened my mom’s warnings about the slats.
That area around the switch needs some attention
Yeah it ruins the whole wall
The light switch made me wonder why it was there?
Beautiful work 👏
Good work having that cover the crack for the door. If you really look ypu can see, but nice work!
Thank you!
Top corner gave it away for me. Looks good still.
looks great, but the outlet extension boxes would fit if you'd just undid the cabeling, routet it through the extension and rewired?!
Can u answer...? Soo... Before entering the hole the air is cold but when it comes out from those small holes it gets hot so it doesn't makes smoke... ?
the air rising and coming out of the top holes pushes the smoke on the edge of the fire back toward the middle, where it is hot enough for it to burn away
Such a great project man! Looks awesome. 🙌
Thanks Tom!
