I bought flocking materials last season and flocked trees, swags, etc. Besides being a mess to work with, I dreaded doing it because the snow particulates were heavy in the air and I coughed the entire time I used it - couldn't have been a good thing to expose myself to.. Thank you so much for this video! I can't wait to try it, and I hope I can readily find the popcorn patch spray. Thank you again, and happy holidays!
This worked perfectly!!! We saw flocked artificial trees with multi-colored LED lights in a Christmas display at a hotel a couple of weeks ago. They were absolutely stunning. I decided that I would look for a similar tree during the black Friday sales. I found a few in local stores, but they all had plain white lights and were at least $300. I found a couple of models online with multi-color lights, but they were even more expensive ($500 and up) and difficult to find in stock As I was searching for an alternative, I came across this video. We bought a beautiful 7 1/2 tree on sale for $89, used this method to flock the tree, added several strands of LED multi-colored lights, and we had the exact look we wanted for less than $150!! We are not very artsy or creative, but this was so easy! Thanks, Kevin!
This year (2015) I bought two five foot snow flocked trees pre-lit. One was beautiful and heavily flocked but the other not so much. I had already seen this video from Kevin and decided to try it. OH MY GOSH!!!!! It matched the commercial flocked tree exactly! I could not tell which was which checking the branches once dried. Thank you Kevin, you're the best!!
I did this today. I didn’t add the popcorn patch spray though. I just used white spray paint i sprayed it on heavy to make it look more white and WOW turned out great, so much cheaper than buying a white tree. Make sure you let your tree sit for about 2 weeks the max to let the chemical smell go away!
i just found your video after searching how to make my own flocked garland. i've tried, with zero success, to find any flocked garland for my fireplace to match my tree this year. I just purchased some plain garland, battery operated fairy lights and a can of santa snow spray at michael's. i'm so excited to try this tomorrow to add to my christmas decorations!! thank you so much!!
This is the best DIY flocking I’ve seen on UA-cam! Tried this method and it really works! Looks very realistic. My Christmas decor dreams came true for Christmas 2019. Thanks Kevin!
I know this video is super old....but I did this to my tree last year, and I plan on doing it this year too. My tree looked really cute and I didn't have to send $300 on a flocked tree. Snow in the can is the best for diy holiday projects.
Thank you, I have a 7 ft green prelit tree. And I really don't want to buy a new tree. You have given me a new tree. With just spray paint and pop corn ceiling paint. Can't wait to try this.
Thanks Kevin. I really wanted to purchase a flocked tree, however my current artificial tree is still in good shape and this will give me a great thing to do on the weekend before Thanksgiving.
well I have to say this method is far easier then mixing flocking dust etc...lol thank you for finally giving me a super answer to spending a small fortune on flocked pieces ! LOVE IT
Just wanted to say thank you so much for this video...gave me and my little ones a great craft to do during this Pandemic Christmas. Its so easy a child could do it.
thank you, kevin. i just opened a tree from michael's and was on my way to buy flocking when i thought of checking your video out. off to buy orange peel and white paint instead. great idea and demo.
This is genius! I am going to try this for my outdoor garland on my front door. Dollarama has really good quality garland right now about 7ft long. Thank you for you tip!
PLEASEtll me that the popcorn spray wont be somehow destroyed by cold or hot temperatures, that it will withstand wet snow or rain without damage or any kind of outdoor environment and that it would neither fade or yellow from sun exposure or storage in hot attic.
@@nicolegoupil7179 I had mine out all last winter in the snow and very cold temperatures and it held up very well. Cant say anything about the yellowing but its worth a shot.
I have been waiting on this Video!!! So the trick is adding Texture Patch or Texture Spray on top the of white and go heavy on the tips. Thanks so Much!!!
Oh wow! Thank you so much! How generous of you to share your talents with the world! Very inspirational, indeed!Much joy to you and yours this season from Israel :)
Thank you for this informative video. I was just about to order flocking kit from Amazon...I think this is MUCH better option. Thanks again and Happy Holidays to you.
Probably LED or miniature lights would work without yellowing issues because they are cooler to begin with. This is a great idea since I like the "frosted" look, not necessarily the flocking. But it looks better than the commercial flocking I've seen.
Well I will be darned! That was going to be my first question, "Does it yellow?" I remember flocking trees and what a mess. Probably wouldn't work so hot with lights on it. Would cover the cords but completely paint over the light bulbs. I remember back when we had the big bulbs we would take all the bulbs out and string the tree - then flock it - then play hunt and peck trying to find the empty sockets. If the flocking got on the bulbs it would turn orange and yucky.
Hi Kevin - Now that's very tempting, time spent with you and I would have my Christmas arrangements the envy of all! Next time I'm in NY we will 'pop in'. Or you could come to UK and see us!!!! Champagne is chilling............... Blessings June Carole
Thanks so much for sharing this tip! I have a can of that stuff i bought for the walls at my old house and never used it. I am a diy and holiday lover so i will definitely be using it for this now ❤ I bought a flocked tree a couple years ago and it is such a mess! I wouldn't mind just the snow falling off, but it sticks to everything! It was so stuck to my clothes after decorating the tree and didn't come off even after washing the clothes! It also stuck to many of the ornaments and garland. It's really beautiful but I have not used it since, because the thought of the mess it makes stresses me out! I was kind of wondering if I poured a bunch of baby powder on it to adhere to the adhesive they used to attach the snow maybe that would keep it from sticking to everything. Or maybe adding more snow 🤔
I actually tried this and it flaked off like crazy!!! It did not work for me at all. I ended up finding another recipe using white school glue, lightweight spackling and white caulk mixture. It did not flake at all! The ratios were a bit tricky and I don't remember them at the moment but I commented on a video with the ratios and I'm trying to find it.
I think I love you............ This is a wonderful idea. I wanted a green tree and a flocked tree; found a great tree that I liked but it wasn't flocked, now I can make it just like I want. I'll wait until the summer months and put it up in the backyard and go to work.
Awesome hack. Looks great and can't wait to use this year. But a little advice on Health and safety is really important here , I. E never spray paint without a mask and make sure you are in a well ventilated room. 😊
I can readily believe that using outdoor paint would be ok with outdoor garlands but does it matter whether it's water or oil based. My other concern is about the popcorn spray since they are not meant for outdoor use. This said, can you PLEASE tell me that the popcorn spray wont be somehow destroyed by cold or hot temperatures, that it will withstand wet snow or rain without damage or any other kind of outdoor environment and that it would neither fade or yellow from sun exposure or storage in hot attic.
Would you recommend using snow in the can for an outdoor decor project - like decorating your mailbox with pine. Is there a way to get rid of the smell from the spray paint when you want the aroma and scents of holiday fragrances? What would you recommend?
Good video, had to laugh though because when he said "you don't want it even, snow doesn't fall evenly" the way he said it sounded like if I didn't get it right he was going to hunt me down and kill me 😂
You must personally know Kevin. 🤣 I will be sure and let him know you liked the video. (That right there should put you in his good graces, so he probably won't hunt you down.)
Love this technique. I live in England and have never heard of 'popcorn spray'. Do you have any ideas on an alternative? Not too sure if we have texture spray over here either. Guess we will never catch you up with Christmas Decor!
+Terry Cotton Such a kind offer, but I think we would have to rob the bank to pay the postage! Would be great to contact you via email, if you are happy to do so. Do let me know how the 'snow' technique goes. Blessings June Carole
I have a 2 year old and this is a perfect alternative to flocking. Did Anyone have issues with the light bulb catching on fire? I'm really worried about this now.
One question where j could buy those products..I couldn't see it exactly what it is my phone have some scratches... please!!! 😭😭 Thanks for your time and sharing
Plain white spray paint (flat or matte white) plus the wall texture spray you can buy at the hardware store. It's used to spray on walls that you want to make textured like bumpy, rather than smooth walls. It should be in the area at the store where the spackling is, to fix holes in walls. I think they sell it a little cheaper at Walmart.
If I may offer a tip, if you hang the piece up and spray downward, you get a more realistic effect. Thank you for your videos.
robin ORear thanks
It’s a garland, it’s supposed to lay horizontally.
@@don6876 The video title literally states "Christmas Tree" The method suggested by OP is used for that.
Love this flocking method! It's much more easier, faster, and inexpensive than using snow bond/flocking powder. Thank you so much!!!

We can’t get the ‘Popcorn’ patch spray in the UK for love not money, no idea why! So it’s good to hear white spray paint only did the trick.

I would recommend you do this outside & with a dust mask on. Plus putting newspaper under the branch you can have easy clean up. Good video.
i didn’t know what snowspray was so i looked it up on google and the video peaked my interest. i am not disappointed

Nadine how many cans of both paint and texture it took to cover ur tree
Thought I would be the only one viewing this video in 2019. Will try this on my garland etc.

So smart using popcorn ceiling spray.
delicious asbestos flavored!
I like this idea. I do like how flocking powder is kind of soft but does using paint and ceiling texture harden the branches?
This is great idea thank you
