I’ve got the exact same tractor. My great grandfather bought it new in 1956 but I believe it’s a 57 model. Definitely a 640. Runs like a top. I’ve been considering for the last couple of months about tearing enough of it down to repaint it and replace the few gaskets that are seeping around various engine components. Wish me luck. Tractor looks great I love that you’re using it.

1st I used a few coats of rustoleum primer. Then, the red was from Tractor supply. Ford RED. All of it was done by rattle can. The only real trick I had was stripping the old paint off. I used easy-off oven cleaner. But be careful when using it. Only in well been well ventilated areas. Thank you for watching.

Those are not 640 rear fenders.. That is off of the 601 series tractors.. No criticism to the detailed work tho..

It came out really well. I like the time and attention to detail that you took. Also, the upgrades. If they had LED lights back when they made the tractor, that's exactly where they would have put them. I am sure. VERY well done. Thanks for sharing with those of us who don't have a tractor any more.

Amazing job. I wonder how many hours you had into it. It looks like new - maybe better than new! I love seeing these old Fords. We found your channel from a comment you left on GP Outdoors. We'd really appreciate if you'd give our channel a look if you aren't already following us and have a minute. Thanks in advance!

Great restoration! My grandpa has a similar tractor. About how many hours and how much $ did this restoration cost? Thinking about doing the same for his.

Thanks for watching!! Well, it took about 2 months of work to get it done. About 2/3rds of the way in it, I had a kidney stone attack and was forced to shut down the restore for about 7 weeks. The bottom line, it costs around $4500 to $5000. Yes, I know someone could buy a good, newer model tractor. But, this one is like new and in someways, better than new. Plus, these Red Belly tractors are very easy to work on and maintain. Most of my parts came from Steiner Tractor, Yesterdays Tractor, Amazon and my local Tractor Supply. Make sure you check these because pricing varies for part to part. I hope this help.

Hi I am rebuilding my 640 engine. Just want to know if you installed a rope seal on front bearing along with rubber seal or just the rubber seal. My machinists says 640 engine doesn’t need rope seal. I have already installed installed rope seal but planned to take it out if that was not needed. Can you please confirm. Thanks in advance. Also how did you prime the oil pump before firing up the engine 1st time after the rebuild. I am using drill machine to spin the pump with long hex extension drive but I don’t see any pressure on the gauge or on oil on rocker arm assembly. Any additional tip will be appreciated.

vr s Very good questions. On the 1st, I use the rope seal. After I finished the overhaul, I found out about a newer, updated all rubber seal which is much better. I would have used it had I known about it. I saw it on antiquetractors.com.

    • @TRONMasterMCP

vr s on the 2nd, I did prime the engine with a drill.

TRONMasterMCP thank you for responding so quick. I was able to find your video where you were installing the rope seal. Today was my third attempt to prime the oil pump but no oil squirting anywhere. Super nervous at this point. BTW I really like your video and thanks for the newer seal link.

vr s No Problem. Make sure you have the correct type of end on your drill. There were 2 different kinds that will work. One would be a slotted in which you could use a flat head screwdriver and the next would be a hex shaped in which you could use a Allen type head. Also make sure you have the drill turning in the correct direction. I think clockwise is the correct direction. And finally, the web site is called Yesterday’s Tractor 🚜. I called it antique tractor. My mistake. Thanks.

TRONMasterMCP hey man good news .. it is all primed and all is flowing (it was primed all that time but didn’t know it). I made a video will post it with the reason why. The oil hole on camshaft middle lobe must be align with oil gallery passage to pump the oil up through rocker arm oil feed tube. It gets align each time camshaft rotate when engine is running but during priming we are only spinning the pump shaft with drill and every other moving parts stay stationary so before running the drill i made sure those wholes are aligned by look into the port on the block right behind the middle lobe. Thank you for your moral support.

Have you checked to see if you have oil at the rockers? I noticed a 3/8 cam oil plug missing behind the timing gear. This doesn't let oil pressure build up as it just falls back into the pan. A very common issue when the blocks are boiled out and the builder does not reinstall the cam plug. I know personally of two engines from different machine shops this was overlooked. If you are not happy with your oil pressure at the guage this is may well be the issue-
    timing gear

Thanks for the heads up. I will check that this summer. As of now, The oil pressure seems to be fine. Thanks for watching!!!

Yea, the stamped number in the block says it's a 1957 640. When my dad bought it, the tractor had a lot of different parts from different series on it. Thanks for watching!

@@TRONMasterMCP is cool. Actually, I was watching your slideshow after the rebuild and didn't see that it actually is a 640 until I found this Part 1 video. I found the SN on mine, its a 1956 model. Already manuals for it but needed the SN, found it through TractorData.com. Thanks for your help, am enjoying your videos here.
