This video has all the reasons why I love this channel: I appreciate the honesty, the fact that the stated and implied goal is to not only show off your own skills but to inspire and teach others. I love watching what comes of your work, but these product and tool review-type videos are just gold, because it's stuff that I don't really find others talking about, definitely not with the same detail and 'learn from my mistakes'. If the person you present as in these videos is anything close to 'Matt in real life', you sir, deserve anything and everything good this world has to offer. Thank you for producing new and interesting content. Thank you for helping and inspiring others, especially beginners. I am actually a potter by trade (well, data analyst by trade and I strive to be a potter); I found your channel some time ago when I was try to work out how to make my own wooden stamps and rollers. You saved me so much time and mistakes. Now I come back just to see what you've been up to; best of luck with your new paetreon. Keep creating. Keep being awesome.
This is entertaining, I just started watching a few of your videos and kept thinking "He could do with a dust box..." I built one with a sheet of plywood, turned into a basic box, one hole cut for my shop vac hose , and a lid with a grid of holes drilled in. I use it upright without a lid and my carving piece inside for doing any carving wood and laid flat with the lid on when sanding with whichever sanding tool I'm using.
I do a lot of metal polishing of motorcycle engines and motorcycle parts and was wondering if this machine might work for that application in your opinion of using it.
just found this video on your review of the PSI unit! Funny thing is, I was in the process of scrapping together my own abomination using a range hood vent fan. But it was only rated at 400 CFM, and my design was going to be less portable and take way more time, and be more UGLY!!! I did a bit of reading and searching and since the PSI unit is stilll out of stock, I found the Oasis Machinery DC1700 unit, which is basically the same. I didn’t buy thorough Amazon because they wanted $275. There’s another site where you can get it for $205! Anyway, it’s on the way! Great review! Thanks for all the info! I really like your videos too! Love your Tomahawks!
I am a new subscriber. I enjoy your videos and I am learning so much. I could totally relate when you said you were in the living room with dust everywhere . I was doing mine in my dining room. 😂 lol
I would love to have that but money wise it is out of site for me. Looking for some other option and I live in an RV so I do carve in my living room. Keep up the great work.
That would be great for wood projects. For me, because I work with precious metals as well, it is a challenge to separate the tools I use for wood, gold, silver, copper, & other metals. It can be tricky, when trying to collect only the .999 fine silver in one place, the 90% silver, the .925 silver, so I know the exact purity when melting it all down. I try to do as much of my own refining as possible, but I'm going to need to take a trip to the pros in the near future. Keep on crushing it! 👊🏼🐻
@@CorneliusCreations it depends. If it's silver or gold, then typically no unless the person asks for it. Any other metal, then I will put a clear coat on the pendants using ProtectaClear.
The PSI company should definitely sponsor you, considering you've devoted the whole vlog on them... or at least give you a code, so anyone buying one using your code, you get something back...
Thank you, Phil. My Amazon affiliate links puts a few pennies back in my pocket but that’s the way it goes sometimes. I wanted to make a video on a portable tabletop dust collector since I wasn’t seeing a lot of videos for it.
I've got this and it's great but it's a mystery to me why they put in a variable speed motor. I always crank it to high, I can't imagine a scenario when I'd want less dust collected than the maximum amount possible. I would have gladly paid a little less for a model that has a simple on/off
Hi,I just bought the Psi dc725 from Pennstate woodworking I have a couple of questions if you don’t mind....it seems to have a little blowback when carving is that normal also how far from the wall should it be ?....any other tips for using it would be appreciated...... I have become a lockdown carver and I’m enjoying your videos....I am using a Strong 202......I’m 71 and finally have a hobby 😊Thanks......PS...... I canned pennstate Woodworking last Thursday and they had 4 units in stock.....Good luck.....
Well you are starting to get a nice collection of toys Matt. 😁 I might have to save up some $ and get myself one... it would be much better than the old vac I'm using at the moment.
Thank you for this video. My condo is my woodshop and, well, the kitchen just wasn't working out (even with the extra dietary fiber lol). One of these is in the cart, and some 8mm router bits, and some ... did you know, these tools are contagious?! =)
Thank you. That was useful and informative. Unfortunately, your link for the PSI dust collector shows that Amazon does not have it. It says presently not available. Do you have a different source? One thing you fail to mention how much did it cost you? Thanks again.
I discovered this very informative video about a month ago and I was very impressed! A table top dust extractor unit was exactly what I was looking for! I’m in Canada and Amazon does have it available for $661.00CND! I found it available for in the USA for $230 at PennState Industries. Since I live close to the US border I had it delivered to a receiving depot there. I am a hobby woodworker for more than 40 years. Now that I am retired and way more concerned about my health I thought that this unit would be perfect for me! So I ordered it!! This is a total game changer for me!! I use it everyday! I couldn’t be any happier!! This is the best and most important tool in my garage workshop. I love it! Shaking out the filter everyday is a bit of a bother yet the amount of wood dust that I shake out is now not all over my workshop or up my nose or in my lungs!! This is the best tool in my arsenal!! Thank you so much for this video!
Great overview of the tool’s application. Question - for engraving ID in tools, etc., do you prefer the dedicated engraver like the 290 -1 or 5? I have the 4000 but don’t know if there are bits that accomplish the same affect for my objective. Appreciate your input.
Thank you for the kind words. For the ID engraving I'd say any which one would work. Id probably go with the 290-1 because it wouldn't cause a lot of fine dust.
@@CorneliusCreations Something told me that would be the best way to go. I received it last week - you're spot on. Just what I needed - thanks for the response.
When I saw the dremel prices on amazon uk I just thought Jesus how am I gonna get it now then I checked other online stores that have diy tools and found a cheaper price dremel for 45 pounds it’s definitely a dremel it’s not a fake version just shows what you can find if you shop round brilliant videos by the way!
is that filter actually rated? Their own website doesnt say, and it looks really low quality in terms of light visibility through it, and the very low number of pleats. I am concerned this is only sucking up the dust just to distribute it into the air out the back. The filter is nowhere near a snug fit, and the paneling on the unit its self is hilariously slapped together - nothing is centered or parallel. If you are considering dust collection, I would try to find a review where this product's exit side is also tested - i suspect this product isnt filtering the dangerous dust at all and is only for optics.
I don't mean to shoot down the PSI company. But you could probably make something like this with quality performance for still quite a bit cheaper than $200. The build quality probably wouldn't be as nice though. It looks like an awesome tool though and I'm definitely going to make my own for now since I have the stuff I would need already. I'll be sure to check out this company if I realize how wrong I am. lol
Hello Matt. I have just discovered you very informative videos,Thank you for that...I am a sculptor using many different materials and have been looking for a dust/air handling unit for some time. I really liked the PSI model in this video but I can't find it ANYWHERE!, I sure hope that the company is giving you some $ cause obviously you caused them to sell out. So what to do? Also, the vise that you use to hold your Foredomflex shaft (I have the same model) who makes that, I would like one. Thank you for having easy to watch (not annoying) interesting and generous content. www.collectorcreator.com
Hey Susan! Thank you for your comment and kind words! Yes, those units did sell out quick! Hopefully they will have some more up soon! I picked up that vise at an estate sale. I have looked EVERYWHERE online and could not find it!

Hey there! Look for the sg2 burr from Lasco burrs
Wie finde ich sowas in Deutschland, Hilfe 😫
Might be able to make something similar using a box fan, air filter and some plexiglass.
They have some good articles online about that.
a tad off topic here: where can I find a blank tomahawk ax like the one you have designed in the background? I'd love to work on one of those :0
Weiß jemand ob man sowas ähnliches in Deutschland kaufen kann?
