Invading A Chinese Kitchen in Medan, Indonesia 🇮🇩
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 жов 2024
- In this video, I'm sharing with you guys my lunch from a local Chinese restaurant that was down the street from my hotel. I had some super tasty mie ayam (chicken noodle), but it was very different from any other style of mie ayam I'd had before. I finish the meal up with some cendol, and then I get on my way. Just a short and sweet video. On this day I shot lots of video so, I had to break it up into at least 2 or 3 parts. So here's number1...
Stay tuned for more jalan jalan from Medan...

Medan is loaded with the best Chinese food and Indonesia melayu food
Dimana ada masakan disitu ada Kelezatan... Indonesia say "GPRS (GASPOL REM SEDIKIT) BOOM"👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That chicken noodle looks delicious, thanks a lot for sharing! 👍🤤🙌
Oh yeah, I would say the same too. That's quite an authentic chinese restaurant you're in right there. On par with the ones in Penang. Medan's culinary world is simply on another level. No wonder Mayor Bobby Nasution wants to make the city as "The Kitchen of Asia," he said.
Relax with the dckriding brother, aint nobody wanna hear about that nepotism product of a mayor.
Yeah, that is his plan n only a plan until now
@@windingrefn8417 @Kok Tjai
disclaimer: "he said." I'm in no way d-riding his a** if that's what you mean. The fact that I put his so-called intention here doesn't mean I want to shove up the guy's rep thru this channel. I only proclaim what I know. End of discussion
@@windingrefn8417 nah but he really does some work not like other mayors before him, all lost to KPK 😂😂
So good!
Yes this place is halal and good also 👍 temen temen Medan harus coba. Rasanya enak karena aku makan yg non halal juga jd bsa bandingin dan rasanya ga kalah 👍
Thx
The shrine you saw at the back was of one of the family's deceased ancestors. Just as Japanese families often keep a photo or shrine of their deceased relatives in the house, Chinese also keep a shrine and/or photos of their ancestors. Some Chinese families even have a big shrine with multiple tablets of deceased ancestors on it.
Meanwhile the shrine in the front isn't for a person, but for the Landlord God, Dizhushen (地主神). One of many earth gods whom we believe help bring in wealth. You'll see many Vietnamese restaurants in the US have a Dizhushen shrine as well.
thanks for the info ✌️ now i understand
Melihat kamu makan mi ayam aku jadi laper, terlihat enak banget mi nya
Makanan favorit ku sepanjang hidup. Mie ayam....
Hmmmmm YUMI...

Horas Nick! Welcome to Medan, North Sumatra. I hope you enjoy our diverse culture.
If I may suggest, I recommend you to eat Saksang, BPK(Babi Panggang Karo), Lontong Sayur, Mie Gomak, Roti Bohong, Godok-godok, Chinese Fried Rice, Chinese Pangsit Noodle. And one more thing, you can explore other places such as mall, beautiful buildings, park, chinese temple, and other great places in the next video. Thank you Nick for exposing our places and culture! God bless you and the people you love.
Get some veggies down ya! Around the corner is Medan Vegetarian. Quite a comfy place to eat, but still a budget option. Maybe not the best in town, but pretty good.
It was hard for her to explain because the ancestral tablet is not really a Buddhist thing, but more of a part of the Chinese folk religion. In the end she just kind of gave up and said “Confucian or some sort” but I understand her struggle trying to explain something in a foreign language. I would’ve just said Taoism and be done with it 😂
haha I can tell, must be hard to explain lol
If you’re still interested in an explanation, Chinese folk religion is syncretic, it combines elements from Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism. This is what we call Tridharma in Indonesian or 三敎 (Three Teachings) in Chinese. That’s why you wouldn’t see Sri Lankan or Nepalese Buddhists with that kind of ancestral tablet at home.
It's called ash table to pray for their deity or ancentor, very common for taoisme, kong hu chu. For us Christian it's clearly paganism
@@ente_kadang2_ya158 this is such a typical comment from recent Christian converts from Chinese folk religion.
Thinking of going to visit Medan. I live in London now but visit Penang. So near Medan. There’s was a nonya lady from Medan who used to cook for us, fantastic nonya food!

Thus video make me hungry😅i think food content and food thumbnails will reach many viewers 🤩
I think you need to go to Banda Aceh, a very developed city after the Tsunami in 2004.
Then you can visit Weh Isladn to see the 0 Kilometer Indonesia monument, and then you can explore the island (i recomend renting a motorbike at the port)
U can go with the bus from medan 12 Hours duration.
I will go to Aceh someday!
@@NickKTravel cool

I have been to Medan thrice and loved its cuisines. It is a little spicy for me, but locals don’t think so. Would love to visit this 3rd largest city in Indonesia again, hopefully next year.

That cendol Nick, you may find all over Indonesia, made by rice four colored by natural green liquid from green pandan leaf served by palm/brown sugar + coconut milk syrup...that one you found in Malaysia originated/brought by Indonesian to there.

I am in Siantar, nearby Medan. If you came to Siantar, if you need any help, i will try as much as I can to help you.
Made me drool 🤤

1:14 The tablet altar basically represents Chinese ancestor veneration, and in this case, the spirit tablet is a reminder to the Chinese family to venerate the man's father.

Horas Medan
Hi Nick, the Chinese family religion is called Taoism. Not Buddhism.
ahh thanks!
It's just Chinese folk tradition. Not really Taoism, Confucianism, nor Buddhism. But Chinese often mix and match these different religions with their local beliefs. E.g. A Chinese family can be primarily Buddhist, not adhere to Taoist teachings, but you'll still see shrines for Chinese deities in their home. That's because it's core to Chinese tradition rather than any particular set of beliefs. Same goes for Japanese/Javanese/Vietnamese and others with their folk traditions. This can be totally mind boggling for followers of Abrahamic religions, who've struggled to fit folk religion/beliefs into their narrow definition of religion.
Thank you Mr. LIANG for such detailed explanation for all. Cheers.
It’s Mr. Liong. 😊
@@davidtham5644 Haha that's fine. Liang and Liong is the same thing (梁)

I like my noodle dry, and drink the broth seperatly
as far as i know, even if they follow buddhism, they still worship their ancestors, if they are confucian, they worship the gods of confucius and they still worship their ancestors in honor and commemoration for giving them life and inheritance

@@NickKTravel i'm sure you did of course. just teasing. i guess indonesians in general really dont mind or care if you wanted to go check out their kitchen and stuff. they're pretty relax about it unlike here in merica everything has rules and liabilities.

that'd be cool, but at the same time I don't have a huge American following so would't make sense.. but maybe an Indonesian brand like Eiger would be dope 🤩

Hi Nick, how do you manage all the money you need for all your travelling adventures?. It's not a cheap journey dude. Just asking.
it's actually not as expensive as you think. if you stay in budget hotels, eat local food, look for cheap flights... it's doable
