- Reinstalling the transmission went well. Right until it didn't when disaster struck. Lucky for me I have the parts to do a quick repair.

Wow, thats great information. you are so calm working on the V4.
Thanks for taking the time to upload all of these videos they are really useful.
Happy to help. Let me know if you want to see anything in particular.
Stumbled upon the valve check series. Just saw this video (again, coincidentally or UA-cam signature system working) and loved your composure on the broken output shaft. You just got yourself a new sub. Looking forward to the continuation of your channel! Keep it up dude/mate/dude😉
Thanks. I'll do a video on the repair shortly.
I've been posting some of your vids to RSV4 Owners Group on Facebook. Well-received.
Thanks. Hope they help.
I just appreciate you’re wearing flip flops in your garage.
It often reaches 100 degrees in Texas (40 celsius). Sometimes for months at a time.
@@ShaunNielsen yeah I’m in college station tx. All my friends give my crap for wearing flip flops 😂
Thanks for posting this and the rest of your videos!
I hope they help EV. Next up - shock rebuild video.
oh buddy that snapped bolt at the end was a real pisser. I can't believe Aprilia uses a little bolt like that. Shame it broke. I bet its a one use only type of deal...great videos even though I don't have an Aprilia :)
Thanks.
Hi Shaun, Thank you for all those very informative videos, especially the previous one showing how to move the cassette. I also broke my sprocket bolt yesterday.. drill it, used an extractor and... the extractor broke as well. I'm screwed. I will have to remove the cassette and change the shaft I guess.. How did you manage?
awesome videos mate , they have been a great help when working on my rsv4 . i noticed you torqued the clutch springs to 15nm , where did you get this measurement as i cant find it in the service manual i downloaded from af1 racing ? Someone on there fourm posted torque values of 10nm to 12nm .
at 15:00, what is the gear you put on? I accidentally rotated crank shaft without the gear in place. Can I put it back as is? There is no timing dot on the gear BTW.
i know this is probably a few months late lol but incase if anyone else is wondering the same thing, that gear is just for the starter to turn and that turns the one way gear to turn the crank over and its okay to put it back wherever. there is no timing on it
Old video, I know, but did you replace the gasket or reuse the old one?
Great vid & love your work boots.Lol.
Hehe you only need steel toe boots if you plan to drop something on your foot.
what torque for the bolts with spring?
Hey bro ...! I have a problem on my RS V4 aprila .... The sound come from the clutch side thought out the another side what it should be ... Suggest me if u have any knowledge
this could be many different issues. If you have experience and tools needed to strip the cases you should look at the clutch and pull the transmission out for inspection.
If you dont have mechanical skills you should take it to a mechanic.
@@ShaunNielsen I check it ... My clutch plate housing together were damage so I need to change that part .. 👍 thnks for suggestions n ur advice
That torque wrench is very nice
Expensive but worth it
I love these videos.
Hi Shaun, is there anyway I can contact you regarding a clutch issue I've got going on?
Hey Shaun, owned a V4 tuono for 6 months. Its a 2012 with around 8000 road miles. Just done a oil and filter change. Noticed a very small single 'slither' on the mag plug. Almost like a stripped thread. You think its anything to be concerned about?
Another Great vid, makes the task of checking if required less laborious. Im in Ireland and unfortunately a reputable Aprilia mech is hard to find!
Sorry for the delayed response. How is your bike? A single sliver of metal is likely not going to cause a problem. If the plug is 'fuzzy' that's when you need to be concerned.
Absolute legend 👍
Thanks. More info on this engine will come in the near future.
Shaun Nielsen do the clutch cables on rsv4’s stretch with age ?
Gee, I was expecting a total gearbox failure considering the title. However you were so meticulous in reassembly I was wondering..'what's going to happen then?'. So, is it a laborious drilling job then an attempt with an 'easy-out' before a full drill-out and re-tapping exercise?
I have a friend with access to an EDM machine, so I'm hoping he'll be able to help me get the bolt out. So far my attempts with a reverse drill bit havent had much luck
Hi Shaun, I can't seem to tension the spring below the actuator, can you help me?
Do you mean the spring at 20:18? Its a little tricky, and can require a lot of force to push it into position. Its difficult to describe without the part in my hands, so just try manipulating it in different ways until it snaps on.
Is that big ass gear on the clutch basket the primary reduction gear?
Thats referred to as the clutch drive gear in the manual. It also functions as a reduction gear.
great videos mate :) I just changed over from my S1000RR to this Italian thingy, and straight away on the 2nd launch control the clutch disks went... Italians... anyway, I will be changing the clutch disks now and your videos are very helpful - thanks for sharing. Quick question - I will be riding the bike hard on track, and currently it was running 5W50 full syn. oil, and I wanted to ask you whether the oil you mentioned 5W40 is what the RSV4 needs for track or should it the more like 10W60? will the effect the clutch and gears in any way?
What year model is yours? I tried several different 10W40 brands in my 2013 and it didnt like them - shifting was terrible. When I finally found 5W40 and 0W40 the transmission started shifting the way its supposed to - smooth as butter
ahaa ok that's good to know thanks :) mine is a 2011 RSV4 APRC Factory. Which 5W40 would you recommend for running on track and is it depending on the ambient temperature?
If you can get it, the best oil to use is ENI, either 10W40 or 0w40 - whichever is recommended for your bike. I wouldnt worry too much about temperatures unless you have spikes are are doing a lot of ice racing...
Alright ENI it will be. Did you mean 5W or 10W 40? And temperatures wise I meant that where I am, temperatures can get 40 Degrees Celsius or more and people change oil on their bikes to 10W60 (this is what I also did on my s1000rr) to cope with the high temps. Basically I was wondering whether the Aprilia needs this aswell, or will the 5W40 be sufficient for these temperatures?
I've done dozens of track days here in Texas in temps over 40c and never had a problem with the 5w40
How come you only have one three legged spring installed on the clutch pack?
The parts fiche shows aprc engines having two of the thicker 0.9 springs.
The springs are sandwiched together. its difficult to see on the video but there are 2 there.
actually after pulling the clutch again I noticed there are 3 springs
U smart duw.... I just can get ever flip flaps... I personally can't function with those
It gets really hot in that garage!
Shaun, how much this it weigh? Tge gearbox
Hi I dont know exactly. I would estimate approximately 3 kg
snap-on torque wrench, Rich....Bitch..... great vids mate.
Thanks 👍
hooowww we brake the same screw on a tuono v4 !!!! :)
Mate just ride your bike and stop treating it like a lego. The engine on your last bike went pop after you ginned around with it. Change oil, oil filter, spark plugs and air filter that's it.
Sorry man i shouldn't have said that. Don't think it is a good idea to pull apart a gearbox of a near new superbike. Maybe a Kawasaki ZX10rr would require less attention. Doing this kind of major dissembley would have to void factory warranty.
@@anthonycavalliotis8736 You do realize he was replacing the transmission right? He's not just taking it apart for the fuck of it.
