I love my fat tires. Many of times when I get distracted and run off the edge of the road or a car gets too close for comfort they have saved me. I also know that if someone stops on the road to mess with me, I can always head across a farmers field to get away from danger. I have also had dogs try to bite my tire, so it gives me comfort knowing I have that big meaty tire. And oh, did I mention ride comfort? Riding a hardtail, fat tires are much more comfortable as they act as a shock absorber. Hitting potholes there is less worry that the rim will buckle. I love my fat tires😀 I put over 10k miles on my front tire riding 90% on the road, so they will last a while even on the road. Now if they would make them with a thin 1 inch tread down the middle, it would be perfect. Air them up solid for road riding, let some air out for dirt and sand. I can only wish ; )
I like fat tires a lot for some things and lighter more efficient tires for other rides. But since I don't ride in snow or deep sand then 4 inches wide is the maximum that I would use. The extra weight and air drag will reduce the performance of any bike and the extra diameter will hurt climbing performance with a hub motor. I went the other way with tires for my Kepler. It has 26x3.5 Vee tire Zig Zags that are quiet and still feel cushy but roll a little easier. I like fat tires on an around town bike and thinner tires for a ride through the countryside.
I’ve never driven anything bigger than a 3” tire, and it feels plenty big & capable. I can only imagine though the feel of even a 4” let alone 5” tire would feel like as you said driving a bulldozer. The only issue I would have riding that think of a tire is the rolling resistance as batteries have not advanced anywhere near where it would not matter the thickness of the tire. Once battery technology I gives us 50-100amps what would be 10 amps now in equivalence in size 3” max I personally feel is plenty comfortable. They look however pretty damn comfortable to ride, and would love to see how the 4/5” tires ride. 👍
fat tires are not as much of an issue on ebikes when you are talking close to 1000w of power. Now if you run out of battery and want to pedal then yeah its like pedaling a tractor.
Something's definitely off with your measure calipers, even a mongoose dolomite has a 4 inch wide rim, and the stock tires extend a little beyond that. I just measured my dolomite, Schwinn Biggity and Sikk Ufo, they're all slightly over 4 inch on the tires and 4 inch on the rims.
Have you ever considered doing a video on the pros and cons of different forks that are out there, especially between steel and aluminum when adding a motor to the front wheel? I've been trying to decide what forks to get for a fat tire and a 2,000 watt motor. I've been reading that steel forks are the only way to go with higher powered motors, but which forks??? Thanks, and keep up the great work.
motor on the front wheel you need some good forks and torque arms, ive been going through that process myself blew out 2 forks already. Citizen recommends RST Guide 26 forks thats what he did with t he citizen bike.
They look cool no doubt, I went with 4.4 in once, instant regret, they were great off-road great in the snow, but excess drag was very noticeable on the street, range acceleration top speed noticeably less. Went back to 4.0, unless they're going to be used in snow I don't see the point but they do look cool.
Hi bassw, may I ask what size motor were you using when you did the tire swap? I've been wondering this myself, what kind of loss in acceleration and top speed I'd have. Thanks.
@@wjf213 I had the Vee Bulldozers, on the bike at the time. The motor on that bike is non branded bafang looking motor, says 500w, but it's pretty much a 750, it peaks at 1,040w, and climbs faster than my 1,000w bafang that peaks at 1,550 w. Before I switch the tires I was running the Panaracer's, probably the best I've seen but hard to come by these days.
@CitizenCycle Can you try to fit that Motor on the Cobra? idk how IT works and If i can still use the toque Sensor but i realy need that upgrade. IT IS a 1000W Bafang hub
I find them comfy, i got a fat bmx no suspension, only running 3.5 at the mo, putting 4.8 on it soon hopefully if they fit, only just notice the ones i got are 3.5 i thought they was standard 4.0, fingers cross
I tried the Kenda Juggernaut Pro, I believe these are 5.0” but maybe 4.9” I can’t remember. To be honest awesome looking big fattie tires but disappointing on a trail. I went back to my 4.0” much better handling, cornering, trail riding. The 5.0”s were great in the snow and that about it IMO. Tire width will depend on rim width.
in my experience the kenda juggernauts wear out extremely fast i think they are lightweight and made for snow riding. They lasted me less than 1000 miles on pavement which is really bad
I have been avoiding a budget suspension fork, assuming that my jumbo jim 4.8 wouldn't fit. Looks like they will . Im using standard 135mm moonlander forks What is the brand on any of the forks You showed thanks ?
Stock CST BFT on mine are at 3.89 it looks like. Strangely I have less room to play with on the rotor side of my forks. The gap seems smaller. Not sure if the design of the fork does that or if it's my bad wheel install job 😂
I’m running 4.9’s on my Sondors LX. I’m moving to an island and taking the bike. Finding IN-STOCK aftermarket tires for this bike is extremely difficult. Two questions, I’m wondering what’s the best tire for both pavement and sand to run? Also, are you finding these tires in stock anywhere? Great channel and content as usual!!! Thanks
I have not tried it but I'm not sure they would work with the rear suspension. The tire might end up hitting on the controller box when the suspension flexes.
Actually, same with car tires, tire size does not affect the amount of rubber touching the road. The only way to increase the surface contact area is to reduce the tire pressure.
Most dirt/motorcross/enduro motorcycles have wide tires in rear and larger dia narrower tires in front. Handles better and can pit down the power to the wide rear tires. Same concept used by porsche in the 911
@@CitizenCycle925 Yes. Quite a few people run 27.5 back and 29 front on their mtbs. I have also seen a couple of cargo bikes with small rear wheel for low cargo height and larger diameter front wheel.
They look really cool! My question would be are they easily available to get new replacements when they get worn out? I go through tires like there's no tomorrow.
Love the fat tires. Do you have a link for the handle bars you use on the cobra. I just got the Cyrusher Ranger and want to swap out handle bars like you have on the cobra
Just out of curiosity, do you know how much the taller tires changed your speedometer readings. And is there a way to compensate for that in the programming. May be listed as a 27 1/2 or something like that?
My brain is about to explode. I'm going to save you all the bikes I'm looking at, but I'm trying to convince myself that I can live with the Yotobike. The price dropped a 1399. I think it's as close to the COBRA as I it can get. Is there any reason I would want to spend the extra money? Just want to get your thoughts. I'm expanding my options because inventory is running out this time of year
I have never tried a yotoike and I have not watched the reviews on it, but just looking at the website and the specs. It looks like a pretty darn good deal.
@@CitizenCycle925 thank you that means a lot. I understand risk jus wanna make sure I'm not googly eyed lol. Have a great day your in my top 3 UA-cam pros 😜

Definitely the confidence aspect, but also the comfort too. I love my fat tires.

Great information like always was wondering if you could go the other way with the stock rims and put on a 26x3 tire?
i've fit 26x3.5 vee speedsters on rims designed for 4" tires
I put CST's on my Aventon Aventure2 and they look sweet. I had to make some small mods to my fenders. I go a little faster too!
Do you think you could put 3.5 wide tires on the zebra wheel? I thought about putting 3.5 street tires on mine!
vee speedsters 26x3.5 should probably work ive done it on mine
@CitizenCycle Can you try to fit that Motor on the Cobra? idk how IT works and If i can still use the toque Sensor but i realy need that upgrade. IT IS a 1000W Bafang hub
the 1000w bafang hubs come in 170mm and 190mm width. As long as you get the one with the right size there should be a way to make it work.

Hi, would 26 x 4.5 tyres fit the zebra without adjusting the mudguards?
Can you tell me if the 4.8” roly polys will clear the frame and forks on the himiway cruiser ? Thanks.
Unfortunately I do not have a Himiway cruiser to try it on.

the wheel may not be in dish, if the tire is offset from the center of the frame.

I haven't had any trouble finding them in stock They just cost a fortune
They do look cool but my 4.0 are working well for me but maybe when I need new tires I'll try them.👍
Can I use the same 4.0 tubes
Thank you
Does the wicked bike accommodate 26 x 4.3 Or 26 x 4.8
I have not tried it but I'm not sure they would work with the rear suspension. The tire might end up hitting on the controller box when the suspension flexes.
If the tire is 1 inch larger in diamerter, then the seat will only be half and inch higher.
MY FAT BIKE Love the loud hummmmm iam looking 4 a deeper tred too
4 the offf road runnnin too bring on LET GO BRO
bitte was bedeutet 1/4 ? bei fettreifen 20 x 4,0 1/4
I realy want the 750W Cobra but they Just sell them in the US and i am in Europe. Idk how to get one
I find that a larger tire diameter gives a better ride quality than a fat tire. Fat tires just give you better traction I think.
also potentially better braking, if you have good brakes, since there is a lot more rubber on the road
Actually, same with car tires, tire size does not affect the amount of rubber touching the road. The only way to increase the surface contact area is to reduce the tire pressure.
Great stuff!
Very cool!! Fatter is always more Fat 🤣 Thanks for the FAT video brother!!
I would try a mullet. 4.9 on back and a 2.0 wide in front with larger rim.
