The last building is similar to the old water mills here in northern Spain, they used the power of the water to turn the milling stones to grind cereals into flour. They would partially dam the pond to raise the water level then when the grain was ready they would use the extra water power to extend the working day, at night they would dam it up again ready for the next day.
Ants, that 3rd building is calling your name... Thanks for a great tour. Estonia is a fascinating place, and the countryside is beautiful. Please give us more views of your area.
The one built on the river would have most likely been a mill and the river would have powered a water wheel, could have also been used as a small hydro electric station for electricity
@@Ants_Pants I don't know f you ever watch or follow Disc Golf but one of your fellow Estonians won the Female Professional Open World Championships this weekend. Sad indeed, heart bleeds for the second building, turns out the middle roon was used as a grain drier, fireplace without a chimney is why the logs are black, wich means the building anywhere from 100 to 150 yr old.
15:44 - that's the room where grain was stored and dried in ancient times before it was threshed .. these houses originally didn't have chimneys and all the smoke from the oven was vented out through special holes in the walls .. that's why it still looks and smells like a smoke-sauna in there .. hundreds of years of smoking, lol The last one is an abandoned watermill .. the owner has obviously passed away .. pity .. such a cool project will be lost. 24:02 - well that's a dam to raise the water level .. there would've been a proper lake, not a house. Thx for the tour ✌

very interesting video, sad that they are just abandoned to rot away. what does it mean by the bricks only for indoors? are they hand made and never been fired, only good for paving a floor?
Indoor bricks. Basically they dont like freezing weather. Their fine for rain but once the bricks soak up water and freeze in the wintertime. Small chucks will break off the bricks. They will last around 5 years outside before their ruined by cracks.
those cast iron pots will last over 100 yrs. Concrete hole-- shallow well? Cistern? 3 rd building-- Mill for grain? That chanell under the building would of contained the water flow.
I had a friend who had a house built over a stream. Historically, this was used as hydro-power, as in mechanical power, not electrical generation. I suggested they look at a micro-hydro generator. I think they ended up blocking it off.
Hello Ants, it's sad to see small villages being abandoned more and more. The last building looks like a former water mill. In the passage under the house was the waterwheel, but that must have been a long time ago. It's a pity that the last owner didn't manage to finish the construction of the house because then it would have been very nice. If the German politicians continue to ruin our country, I'll consider emigrating to Estonia, for example. Greetings from Berlin
My mom told me long time ago it was a private home, some guy lived there with his family. Maybe the building also had a watermill purpose. What happend to this familiy and their children i do not know.
It's a shame that so many buildings is rotting away, and it its single village, I'm living in a log-house that was once saved and moved, and I'm hoping to find, buy and move some log-barn, but they are getting rarer... Also, finances :D I don't know what paperwork is involved in getting your buildings fixed, but if I would like to move some barn or house, paperwork will cost me more that building itself (buing logs from that building on original site)
This was fascinating; thanks for taking us on the tour, That building on the stream was amazing. Some very rich nature-lover was clearly building a dream-mansion. Reminds me of the poem "Ozymandias" by Shelley.
Talking about the 3rd place. I think its left behind because the owner problaly had health problems or something. Money he had because of all the materials thats left.
That concrete pit on the first plot is for making quick lime. That's probably from the late 1800s.
The last building is similar to the old water mills here in northern Spain, they used the power of the water to turn the milling stones to grind cereals into flour. They would partially dam the pond to raise the water level then when the grain was ready they would use the extra water power to extend the working day, at night they would dam it up again ready for the next day.
