Yea the most formidable fleet on the ocean, and that didnt cross her mind. Dany: Laa deee daaa its such a beautiful day. And Look, my beautiful Rhaegal. He's healing so.....BAM!!. She should have known better than to just take the dragons out in the open in full view knowing that all eyes would be on dragonstone since cersei knew they were probably going back there to lick their wounds from the battle of winterfell.I need to be a adviser to dany.. and a bit more...
What about Tyrion and Varys? They are supposed to be the smart thinkers, the planners. Varys is the head of the biggest spy network in the world and did nothing to see what Cersei was up to. Tyrion too gave no thought to coming back to Dragonstone which, by the way is very close to Kings Landing at the mouth of Blackwater Bay. Nobody thought to council Brann as to what Cersei had been up to? And how in the hell does a tall masted fleet SNEAK UP on another tall masted fleet? That is just virtually impossible! You can see those masts, especially with huge black square sails 12 to 15 miles away, not to mention the blistering attack speed of 5 to 6 miles per hour, and they were already within firing range which would be less than a quarter of a mile. HORRIBLE WRITING!
No, Dany didn’t forget about the Iron fleet as they said earlier in the episode they’ll have the Dragons flying with their ships to protect them from Euron. She didn’t know they would have weapons that could hurt her Dragons. The thing that doesn’t make sense to me is that she would have been able to see the ships from the air before they fired. If Euron’s ships had a line of sight on her Dragons then she would also be able to see them.
It would be a great reaction. I was literally processing what happened for about 10 sec.

I have to say it‘s one of the best scenes in the series.
The silence as he‘s just falling down and crashing into the water is when you just really know he‘s not coming back now.

I think a great strategy would be to feed Drogon some crappy food. Then gain high altitude and cry out Cacarys. Let Drogon shit all over the Iron fleet and kings landing.

When I first saw this I thought it was a nightmare because it seemed so out of the blue but then i remembered this is GoT, they don't need a reason and the nightmares are just life there
All Dany would have to do is attack from the rear as the scorpions are only on one side of the boat. The masts and sails would block the scorpions from firing behind them.
after seeing this scene many times I finally noticed Euron's naval version of the scorpion has suction cups as frontal ornaments because of the Kraken house sigil and lion's heads on the side because they're financed by the Lannisters ;p nice touch
I screamed when Rhaegul was shot like that and yelled at Dany to get out of there...thought for sure that was gonna be her end when he fired another spear. I'm not sure I even wanna see the rest of the season...but there's only 2 more. *sighs*

I hate that Rhaegal died, but i like that these are really genuine reactions (of course a bit exaggerated) since there was no way to see this coming because the books haven’t been released

I doubt it. The scorpions could spin. They would have got her had she come from the back. Besides they were in plain sea, they had all the time to see her coming and spin.

I guess maybe. Just seems like the speed and fire power of a dragon should be able to beat a few ships even with the weapons. I found their tactics a bit lacking.

Hodor haven't made a mistake, Myrcella also, and many others. And all of those who did - the size of that mistake also varies. Some dies of other people's mistakes and so on...

How were NONE of Euron's ships visible to her from that high up, yet were able to get three accurate shots in succession with no direct line of sight? Especially when ships move as slow as they do relative to dragons in the air?

Rhaegal should have just died in the battle with Viserion, mutually killimg each other mid-air and crashing down into the water together. It would honestly have been so fitting given the two were always seen together, and having them die simultaneously, by each other's fire and fangs, would have been a tragic and poetic end to the two brothers.

StrangeTheDreamer It’s not the fact the Rhaegal died. It’s the fact that he died this way. Danny was already looking in the direction the bolts came from, and by simple ballistics alone the iron fleet would have needed at least clear line of sight for the dumb fire projectiles. And at that altitude I highly doubt either of the dragons or Danny herself would miss the ships with the huge black flags and sigils of the enemy.
Some of these people need a slap back to reality. They are the ones that send death threats to actors playing a role!

A writing is beyond stupid. Rhaegal and Misundae died, because without those scenes this episode would had been only about starbucks cup.
Nonsense. This episode was about a great many things. The death of beloved characters and their sendoff, the unfolding relationship between Jamie and Brianne, reconciliation between Arya and the Hound, Bron and his castle, the ever growing concern that Dany is going to snap, THE secret... you can go on and on. The writing is great, you're just piggie-backing with the rest of the cry babies.

Having a dragon in medieval times was like having an apache helicopter, they had to balance the odds a bit. And I was shocked when this happened, and it made tons of people scream and cry, so why ya acting like its a bad thing?

I realize that's always been a part of it but when this scene happened I was fuckin shook and emotional, crying for my boy Rhaegal, which is why I watch the show, I wasn't worrying about where they came from or how realistic it is they hit their target. Hating D&D has become a bandwagon and people forget all the amazing episodes they brought us as well with good changes from the books. And they jump to bashing the writing when they're unhappy with the plot, even though the writing has been way better than expected this season

Show seems to be writing scenes specifically to help this channel. I don’t hate it, just hope they aren’t sacrificing everything they’ve foreshadowed just for shock.
It seems the people in the castle forgot about warning the incoming fleet. Also, the dragons forgot about looking at their surroundings given the height advantage.
Hm just saw the episode 5 trailer where they look up at the sky to a sound imagine if it just emerges from the water when they are sailing 🤔 always get sad when a direwolf or dragon dies
For me, Rhaegal getting shot out of the sky was right up there with Shireen getting burnt and Sansa getting raped.

My opinion here also serves as a test to how divided the audience's points of view can be: Euron had THE PERFECT CHANCE to slay Daenerys and both dragons... but, predictably, she and Drogon were spared by a very strong plot armor... for now.
Alberto Moscoso Jr. I agree, he did have an amazing opportunity that was wasted for no discernible reason.
At the same time though, HOW did Euron’s entire fleet “sneak up” like that. If you can aim the arrows at the dragons and the ships then the dragons and the ships can see you. Rhaegal’s death is just as much a suspension of logic as Drogon and Danaerys’ survival is. IMO.

It's NOT plot armor. GRRM himself said, hitting a dragon with a projectile in the air is one of the hardest things to do and had only been done once in history (in books ofc). Look up the quote, you'll find it immediately. Dany can control Drogon. Rhaegal wasn't being controlled by anyone AND he was already wounded making him more vulnerable. And then you have to factor in the fact that Euron caught them off guard in the moment and they used like a dozen scorpions.

Can't wait who dies next today when the battle start's in Kingslanding...EURON for sure, Cersei mhhhhh not yet, Dany, Varys, Jamie when the battle is over, the Clegans, Tyrion maybe whan he trys to free Jamie, Grey worm he turns mad because of Misandeis dead….But Season 8 is poorly done, only to bring a quick ending and as a result the whole series gets a lot worse. At this point, Season 8 is been a huge disappointment. But hope it come a spin off about the Shadwolands and Asshai
