Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance and Tekken Advance are the most impressive to me as they use the GBA equivalent of Mode 7 to actually make 3D fighting games. Hell, the GBA version of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance was actually the version that got the highest ratings, something extremely rare for portable games at the time.
Interesting fighting games, but if you were a fighting games fan and wanted a portable experience back then, your best bet was the Neo Geo Pocket Colour with its great library of SNK fighting games.
So many fighting games I wasn’t even aware of, and loved learning about several of these. MK Deadly Alliance (and Tournament Edition) are surprisingly really good…especially after the horrific MK Advance lmao! Gundam Seed Destiny looks badass! Also, still can’t believe I missed out on Tekken Advance…I need to change that lol. Great episode as always man!
I clicked on this video to see which games I've played and/or own (I've played the hell out of SFA3 when I first bought it). I'm interested in K-1 2 as it looks it was exclusively made for the GBA. I always find something new on your lists.
Thanks for putting out the video. I recently picked up Tekken for GBA recently and my friend thought I was joking when I told him about it. Once he saw the game he was in for a surprise.
@@thatvideogamesshow Cool little game based on a anime series, the reviewers absolutely destroyed it lol but I love it, like most fighting games on the DS the controls are poor but I still like the game 🙂
Not a GBA game but can be played on one - check out Power Quest for the gameboy. Exclusive fighter that plays very smoothly, there's even been some tournaments held on it - just a genuinely solid little fighter.
I had PowerQuest as a kid. I got it because I loved Gundam and I think it was like 10 bucks. I played the hell out of it and nobody ever talks about it. The story is really good too. Probably my favorite GBC game.
Respect to Crawfish Interactive, the guys who poured all they had into comverting Street Fighter Alpha 3 but because they had taken on so many different conversion jobs and underestimated what a massive job SFA3 would be, they missed their promised release date which was a requirement for the studio to receive the royalties-based extra money that they had been banking on to keep themselves going. Unfortunately SFA3 became not just the best, but also the last game they ever released.
Super sonic warriors was cool remember my brother got the sequel on the original Nintendo Ds our dad took him to pick it up the day it came out on the Ds
Nice breakdown, brah! This system was/is the one to just keep giving. Your vids have contributed to me building up some really decent ROM sets, they are always very interesting. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
I've played half of these games. This is how I rank them: 1. Flame of Recca 2. Dual Blades 3. KOF EX2 4. Street Fighter Alpha 3 5. DBZ supersonic warriors Flame of recca is JP only but the menus and story paths are simple enough you don't need to know any. Dual Blades is great as well. I never played rave master but it looks like it would be 3rd if I did. The thing that makes these better than kof, sf, etc is that they're fighting games uniquely made for the GBA. The others are still ports trying Frankenstein the controls into the 4 buttons of a gba and come off a bit clunky.
KOF EX2 Howling Blood was such a masterpiece of the portable genre, since the first part was so bad i wasn't expect much from the sequel but damn....new characters, smooth gameplay, good music Flame of Recca too i can't believed how much good was the controk for that game
1:48 I think if You like DBZ butoden or hyper dimension you'll love this one, is inproved version of them. Medabots Metabee and Rokusho version are good choises too, the slowdonw can be anoying sometimes, but is whorty to play. Thanks again for a new gameboy advance episode.
I dont remember 10 GBA fighting games that are even worth playing...however before I watch this vid SF Alpha 3 SSF2T Revival Tekken Advance Sonic Battle (im serious) Have to be included in this
Very solid selection of games! believe it or not. I actually played all these games on an actual GBA. Minus Flames of Recca since I live in the US. but out of em all I found Super Sonic Warriors to have been my favorite just cuz at the time I was a major DBZ fan. And being able to play a DBZ fighting game on the go was a dream come true!
Hell yeah Gundam Seed destiny !!! My favorite GBA fighting game, fun fact, you can unlock the previous entry "gundam seed battle assault" in Seed destiny ! But the funny thing is, battle assault got released exclusively in the US, but seed destiny is exclusively JP, so a JP only game has the US exclusive previous game as an unlockable (guess the US one isn't so exclusive anymore lol). Btw worth noting that Seed destiny is more of an upgrade version of seed battle assault so if you're interesting in playing one of em go with Seed destiny.
I didn't know about a few of these games. The GBA was a pretty good handheld for fighting game fans like me. Tekken Advanced is still amazing to play these days
I absolutely loved I absolutely loved Dragonball Z Supersonic Warriors, flowed well, and played great. Wish they would make a new one tbh. It was a really incredible game.
Bro I didn't even watch the whole video yet... but holy crap Mark Hunt was a pocket fighting game, I hope those Fighters who were characters in the game got compensated 💰 😂
Believe it or not, Tekken Advance has a small competitive scene. Someone even modded the game to enable 2-player vs matches with a Game Boy Player + 2 controllers.
I think Mortal kombat tournament edition is the better version as it’s “the other half” of deadly alliance with more characters, finishers and single and multiplayer modes
All these types of videos are good. The only question is how much are ANY of these games cartridge only or CIB(Zeus forbid). Sadly, trying to collect any type of retro game today is all BIG, RIDICULOUS, CRAZY amounts of $$$$(Especially for those who can't emulate).
I used to be a big collector who insisted on only playing games on original hardware and getting complete copies if I could to display on my shelf. But sadly, as you say, it simply isn't feasible these days and it's only going to get worst. An everdrive is the best compromise, at least you can play the game on original hardware.
A video does not do these games justice as they're meant to be played on a small resolution/screen on a portable system, most of these look better on the actual handheld.
Can you please mention when a game is a fan translation or an exclusive in a particular region? K1 grand prix was a japan exclusive series on the gba so you must have used a fan translated rom. Would be helpful to mention that info in vidoes in the future.
UA-cam has a new feature where you can set multiple thumbnails and they are shown randomly to viewers. You can then select the winner at the end of the test.
UA-cam has got a new feature where you can setup three separate thumbnails that are randomly shown to viewers. You can then select the one which did the best =)
They may have been must have at the time, but the lack of face buttons means none of the GBA fighters are must haves today. The console objectively sucked for fighters.
Looking for more Gameboy Advance recommendations? Here’s my GBA video playlist - tinyurl.com/gba-videos
I've seen every video in this series. Great vids!
Apologies for off topic...what the hell is the title.music theme from.....it sounds like music from one of the tekken games.
Cheers
Tekken 2 intro song 🙂
Now this is an interesting episode! GBA had some strange fighting games. Developers really made use of what they had
@linkthehero8431 it's truly impressive!
Technical limitations really made developers creative.
Interesting fighting games, but if you were a fighting games fan and wanted a portable experience back then, your best bet was the Neo Geo Pocket Colour with its great library of SNK fighting games.
i just picked up a Trimui Smart Pro for GBA/SNES/PSX games. so finding nice rpgs and fighting games from this channel has been so helpful
Yes! This is exactly the kind of obscure, niche-ass video I love to see from this channel!
More to come!

For sure give Tekken a go. It’s a really solid version of the game!
Man, Alpha 3 and KOF looked good on GBA
Really good versions for sure!
Really good games. I remember read the EGM magazine about KOF.
sfa3 is amazing

Haha it's insane they even got it up and running!
Great video as ever 💎
My favourite fighting game on the GBA - Recca no Honoo: Flame of Recca
My favourite fighting game on the DS - Windy X Windam

Never heard of the DS one, will have to check it out!

Being a huge fighting game fan, and never owning a GBA, this was like a huge hidden gems video. Loved it!
Glad you found some new games!
I got an RGB30 recently and am so impressed with the GBA catalogue. So many excellent games, I had no idea.
❗️ABSOLUTELY AGREE with SFA3.
It was my favourite game in the PS1 so was obviously going to buy it on GBA.
It's crazy how well the port turned out!
DBZ Supersonic Warriors was a lot of fun! It's probably one of my favorite DBZ games!

Nice,i loved that Rave on GBA(you can even change their battle message)
Also other like Sonic Battle in GBA was severly underrated
Ahh, Supersonic Warriors was my childhood, I just installed it on my 3DS recently. Guess I'll add a few more to the collection, great list!
Not a GBA game but can be played on one - check out Power Quest for the gameboy. Exclusive fighter that plays very smoothly, there's even been some tournaments held on it - just a genuinely solid little fighter.
@Christian-rn1ur power quest is by far one of the best hand held fighting games I've ever played! It's impressive on all fronts
Good to know 👌🏻
I had PowerQuest as a kid. I got it because I loved Gundam and I think it was like 10 bucks. I played the hell out of it and nobody ever talks about it. The story is really good too. Probably my favorite GBC game.

@@thatvideogamesshow What!? Wow.
Rave master’s manga is incredibly underrated.
Great Stuff, as always!
Your recommendations are always great.
Glad you think so!
The GBA is my favorite system.
I grew up nes and snes so the gba was the best of all that then some.

Rave Master and Flame of Recca were my jams. One's a Smash Bros clone, and the other's just something that needed a game already
Awesome little fighters, so much fun to play!
Super sonic warriors was cool remember my brother got the sequel on the original Nintendo Ds our dad took him to pick it up the day it came out on the Ds

im surprised you left out guilty gear (which is a really good port)
GBA was my favorite handheld, the only negative was only 2 face buttons instead of 4. That had some real limitations especially for SNES ports
Agreed there!
Had no idea there was a Flame of Recca game, the manga is great.
These reminded me of those medabots games too.
Damn, I missed supersonic warriors HAHAHAHA
KOF EX2 Howling Blood surprisingly amazing on GBA and even more so than KOF 15.
Great video! Thanks for making it!

Same here, was such a perfect fighter for the series!
I own DBZ Supersonic Warriors and its one hell of a fighting game that gets classic DBZ fights just right on ye olde GBA hardware. Bless that game.
One of the best to come out of the franchise!
Hell yeah Gundam Seed destiny !!! My favorite GBA fighting game, fun fact, you can unlock the previous entry "gundam seed battle assault" in Seed destiny ! I’m late to the party but I’m here now gba time
Two more that are actually game boy and game boy color games are Battle Arena Toshinden and the GBC version of street fighter alpha
good to see gundam seed in the list (not the battle assault variant)
Super turbo revival is a good game and I still play even though I have like all kinds of other ways to play streetfighter two. It’s so unique.

Street Fighter ll Turbo
Sonic Battle
Guilty Gear X Advance

Invalid list for not having super street fighter 2 turbo revival
Not sure if Rave Master could be considered fighting. Great game, tho.
