I'm hoping to have to Part 2, which will cover military and warfare, up on either the 7th or 8th. And remember that these tutorials are for the 1.0 version of the game, so some things may change later with patches and DLCs. Sorry about some of the stuff I missed, but I wanted to get this video done and released as soon as I could on day one.
Praetorian HiJynx Am waiting anxiously for your next part, I tried to start a game today and still found allot of things confusing. Might be better to start as a far from conflict country like Argentina or Brazil. Will you be doing a informative/learning LP?
Yep, they argued that the wiki was better than a manual since it can be easily updated. But the utility of the wiki is limited IMO, particularly for beginners.
Thanks for the vid man. I was super excited to play this game, opened the tutorial, and was like wtf mate... Now i think i can open the game and not get dizzy with all this crazy shit
Thank you for making this, i really wanted to started playing this but it was a bit overwhelming, please if you can also make one explaining the combat and troop movement/placement.
Followed a link from Steam somebody had posted in reference to getting started in HOI. Glad I clicked. Explained it quickly, clearly and simply. Excellent. Thanks a lot. Look forward to he other tutorials. Peace.
Capital? Do you mean a country's capital, or capital ships? You see a country's opinion of you by going to their diplomacy (right click somewhere in their country with no units selected). Their opinion of you, as well as your opinion of them, will be in the top right corner of this diplomacy tab. And you can speed up the game by using the plus "+" symbol on your keyboard, and slow down with the minus "-" symbol. There are also buttons at the top corner, though using your keyboard is far easier.
Great tutorial but man you talk FAST! It's hard to keep as a total noob to this game. As feedback I'd say talk slower to give people time to understand what's going on. It's probably all very straight-forward for you, but for me, not so much.
I don't mind the fast speaking... Sometimes people forget that it's a youtube video, you can always re watch sections that you are struggling to understand.
This is really helpful! As a former EU4 player I appreciate that you really broke down the most important stuff whilst leaving some info for us to discover for ourselves. Great tutorial!
In real life? Yes, Joesph Goebbels made a speech announcing defeat at Stalingrad and from that moment on, Nazi Germany reduce production on civilian goods and more factories went to the war effort.
Figured I post on the 1st of the series. Thank you very much. You did an excellent job of covering the basics, you have a easy to understand voice, and youre right to the point. You got a subscriber. And I expect many more to follow. Please dont be afraid to add to this playlist even rehashing what "we" know.
Thanks for the tutorial! i am total new in the grand strategy game especially HOI4. Your tutorials are more clear than HOI4 wiki. You pointed out every basic that need to be understand. Liked and subscribed
Thanks man! Just bought this game and immediately realised I was slightly over my head xD I've been trying to work it all out myself within the first two hours of play time (so I can get a refund of steam if it turns out I don't like it...) so these videos are going to do me a world of good! The way you've done these videos is great btw.
Once you start playing it makes sense. I turned France into a war machine and made it communist. I converted a bunch of civilian factories to military factories. I now have 26 military factories. I am mass producing infantry equipment and am currently making 212 a day with maximum efficiency and have about 56,000 stockpiled. I invested into nuclear technology and made war claims on Germany causing the tension level to rocket up to 76%. The border between me and Germany I have fully equipped with infrastructure and land forts along with a fuck ton of soldiers. I’m having quite the fun time. Now it’s to rip Germany a new one
in december i thought id never learn how to play this game, i tried tutorials but they seemed way too time consuming. the best way to learn is to just play, im being honest. I learned the game fairly quick, and its actually pretty simple (a little too simple tbh, im going to try and learn eu4 because of this). Like very simple. eventually you'll catch onto things. its much more enjoyable than watching a tutorial anyways. although, they can help. (im probably just saying this because i got over the learning curve but in all honesty, i dont even remember learning this game, after a few plays you'll catch on quick and from then on the small details will start to come to you over time of playing)
That's how I learned how to play the game as well, though I had little other option considering there weren't any tutorials of the game yet. But for some people trying to learn the game that way can be overwhelming and not very fun, and these tutorials are to help out those people ;)
This game is FUCKED UP. The in-game tutorial is worthless. How hard would it have been for them to create a step-by-step, scenario based tutorial that GRADUALLY taught you the game, like every other PC formatted "board game" manages to do. This game seems to have so much promise, but it's going to take a lifetime to figure it out. AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!
Paradox games are notorious for having terrible tutorials, and HOI4 certainly doesn't break that trend. However, watching a few video tutorials and then getting a few campaigns under your belt will have you destroying the AI like a pro in no time ;)
One can only hope... That being said, thank you for all the work that you put into these videos. They are pretty much the last, best hope I have of creating the Fourth Reich on my computer!
Glad you're finding it helpful, though keep in mind that this video was made on the launch version of the game. HOI4 has received a ton of patches and DLCs since, so much of the info in this series is out-of-date.

Sorry about that. I've had some people say that I'm talking too fast for them while others like that I talk fast. I slow it down some in later videos. Luckily, UA-cam also has a feature to slow down (or speed up) a video.
Thanks for these videos! Im a HOI newbie and you do a great job of explaining all the different aspects. Ive been able to jump into some of my own games now and actually be able to formulate a rough roadmap of what I want to do. Im also a few videos in on your Italy Lets Play and that has been helping a lot too. Your time and patience to help out newcomers is very appreciated!
great tutorial that helps me to start playing the game ++ also don't miss to watch the tutorial part 2 video for the more complex (but easy to understand) combat settings of that game. thanks alot Praetorian!
I appreciate the efforts experienced players make to help noobs learn HOI4, but as this is all new, it might be helpful if you slow down a bit in your description of the game mechanics. Thanks for the Beginner Guide, & look forward to part 2.
Sorry if I was going through it too quickly. I was trying to get the video done and made public before I had to go to work today. I was also attempting to squeeze quite a bit of information into one video (perhaps too much). Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this, the actual game tutorial is useless and I didn't understand anything, but this video explained everything amazingly. Thanks :D
I bought the game last night, spent 4 hours playing around with stuff and I'm still lost lol. I need to watch a lot of tutorials.. it's so hard to learn tbh
After watching all the tutorials, if you're still confused consider checking out one of my Let's Plays. The LPs show how to play in practice, which could be helpful for you. Yes, this is very much the case with HOI4. It does have a bit of a learning curve, but once you get past that you'll find a deep and entertaining strategy game :)
I just got this game on steam sale and wow it is a complicated game to get into. Luckily I found you mr. Thank you so much for your tutorial video. It was really good and helpful 😀
Yes the HOI series can have a steep learning curve (though HOI4 is certainly the easiest to learn IMO). I'm just pleased to help new players better understand and enjoy this excellent game.
I'm so glad I stumbled upon your video. Having difficult time learning this game and I have experience on Dwarf Fortress and EVE Online for Christs sake. :D
rofl got the game not to long ago, tried the tutorial in game and i honestly i have no idea what i was doing then. im so lost at this game, even with your tutorial that helps alot
Hey man thanks a ton for these videos. I could not get my head around the tutorial. I am getting my ass kicked but at least I understand why now. I will watch the rest today as I play. Thanks a ton man

Will you be doing a informative/learning LP?
I'll just finished recording part 2 and it'll be up on UA-cam later today. And yes I do plan on doing some HOI 4 Let's Plays.
Please, finish this video today, I am so bad at warfare lol
As a person who has never played a hearts of iron game this is really helpful. You got your point across clearly and made sense.
Thank you! I'm glad you found the video helpful :)
I swear to god Ive played this game for 10 hours and I still dont understand it.
Have my tutorials helped out? What part of the game are you still having trouble understanding? Feel free to ask me any questions you may have?
Explore it thats how you understand declare a war.
The factories and the whole construction thing confuses me, I don't get how I make my country prepared to war properly :P
dude97x i know the full game now it only took 5 hours and some videos.
dude97x My Let's Play would be a better example of construction in practice.
Hi.
You probably are here because the in game tutorial is a joke.
Paradox really dropped the ball with the tutorial, and then didn't even include a manual.
Praetorian HiJynx the only tutorial they added was wikipedia pages.
Yep, they argued that the wiki was better than a manual since it can be easily updated. But the utility of the wiki is limited IMO, particularly for beginners.
its like throwing a 2 year old in the ocean and telling them to swim
It was better than the HOI III "tutorial"
I signed up for a strategic war game, not the SAT's lol.
Lol, HOI4 does have a bit of a learning curve :D
SAT's are much easier than this
Came here to say this. If winning a campaign in HOIV was apart of university admissions, there would be a lot less higher education.
In-game tutorial: Read the Wiki then come back and play.
Yeah pretty much, most people haven't really found the in-game tutorial all that helpful.
Read the Wiki, and find out the pages aren't created yet, nor are they very helpful when they are.
@@PraetorianHiJynx There is an in-game tutorial?
Really good video. Like how you clearly had a solid idea about what to cover, so no hesitation or long pauses.
Thanks! Though I must be honest, any long pauses were edited out ;)
Doesn't matter; was good editing then. :)
This is my favorite "Getting started with HoI4 in a nutshell" tutorial. Great job!

You are a life saver,im new to this franchise and felt overwhelmed. Thanks for the heads up.
You're welcome! I'm happy to help :)
so, to make a unit , i need "experience " ?
if is true , then this game is parallel with reality
To create a new division you only need the manpower and equipment. To change the design of your divisions you'll need experience.
thanks , but where to go to make the new division ?
Mihai FeZe On the recruit tab. I cover recruiting divisions in part 2. And discuss division designs in more detail in part 3.

Absolutely AWESOME tutorial Praetorian. I'm a fan of Paradox but new to Hearts of Iron, your video was immensely helpful!
Thanks! I'm glad to be of assistance! The HOI series has always had a bit more of a learning curve when compared to other Paradox games.
Just picked this up in the Summer sale, what have I gotten myself into?
You've found an excellent, though somewhat complicated, strategy game!
I fell that bro.
Can't go into how helpful this video is. Coming from a HOI3 fanatic, this game is just different enough to scare the hell out of me. Many thanks!
You're wecome! Yes HOI4 is quite a bit different from HOI3. Luckily the learning curve for 4 isn't as steep as HOI3's.

I like the fast style. It keeps it snappy and the viewer can quickly get through the video, pausing or replaying the bits that they don't understand.
Life-hack. Just set him to .75 speed, and he'll be talking at pretty normal speeds. xD
