Well, technically no. If left alone, organic matter turns into a kind of sludgy soup. At least, we do. We don’t turn to straighten up dust. And when fruit decomposes, it grows moldy, and in the case of watermelon, seems to turn into a sloppy watery mess. This video is what organisms that aid in decomposition do. 😊
Amazing video! Could you feed them a a jello cube. Something like 4" or even 6" cube. Large enough, so the cube stands above the mealworm 'pit'. It would be interesting to see how they consume it, and if any tunneling occurs.
If they could well... they would be flying in the air 6 inchs away from eachother and breaking the laws of pshics to teleport bread to there mouths.. same story with water melon.. and strawberry.
my mom had to stop letting us bring mealworms home from school because i kept leaving the containers slightly open and they’d escape lol we kept finding the adult beetles just chilling out around the house
I just uploaded a new mealworms video, can you please let me know what you think of it? I'm sorry, I didn't film a muffin this time, but now I added it to my list for the next video :) Thank you for subbing, it means a lot!
One thing that I have always wondered is what these things turn into if you let them grow up! I know that they are the larvae of some type of insect but I have never actually seen the adults.
1:50 im surprised he didnt notice he had a rare black mealworm. theres like a 1/500,000 chance for it to be a different color. very rare. also i just made that up but it definitely did catch my eye, i thought it was like a beetle or something at first.
I've just discovered your channel and I must say. Your videos a absolutely fascinating. Completely different from anything I've seen before. I thoroughly enjoy them. Thank you for introducing me to a disgusting but at the same time, beautiful part of youtube

Man those watermelon scraps at the end looked revolting. Was that caused by the worms or is watermelon always gonna look like that after it's been sitting out for a day and a half?
Mealworms aren’t at all like fly maggots that leave gross residue all over everything. Food can rot very quickly especially when there’s a lot of moisture and not enough ventilation.
This is a random story, the other day on Thanksgiving I ate some old cereal that was at the bottom of the cabinet and it was pretty dark in the room. I didn't know until after I finished all the cereal, I saw three floating in the milk, that there were meal worms in my cereal.
Top tip to everyone watching these videos, you can put on any music you like as your own backing track if you want to. I watched this to 'Turn down for what' and it goes toghether incredibly well.
Fun fact: interestingly, in indonesian, this worm is called "hongkong worm" and then called "japanese ant" when they reached the adult / became beetles

Darkling beetles. Small black non-shiny and skinny.
exactly
May sound gross but the little worms peeking up through from the bottom of the bread was so cute 😂

I'm curious if it would be efficient to keep and feed mealworms as a renewable food source for a reptile like pet.

The dedication this person take to count each individual meal worm before recording so they have exactly 10000 is amazing.

Wow that bread got decimated once enough mealworms realised it's there.

Mealworms are such cool critters. Back in middle school we learned they can learn to navigate mazes for treats.
If these critters were Pokémon, their power would be their ability to easily eat any food that is plant-based!
They can digest Styrofoam into biodegradable components.
Meat? Yes.
Grain? Yes.
Plastic? Yes.
I don’t know why but it’s so satisfying watching these worms devour the stuff.

Interesting.. can we use machine learning / big data analysis to track each worm and check if they all eat an equal amount?
After watching all your videos, I started to think if everyone was able to eat what you're feeding them. Would you mind asking them one by one?
would it be possible to do this with tapeworms?
The strawberries just melted away into a sea of worms, don't how I feel about that I'll get back to you all once I've figured it out
